• Computer won't start unless power is removed for ~5 minutes

  I have a fairly standard 2-year old desktop computer (quad-core intel, single hard drive, decent video card, 300W power supply) which recently started acting up. I'm not sure what the cause is, so hopefully you can help. Sometimes (once a week-ish) I press the power button and nothing happens. No blinking, no sounds, no nothing. If I remove the power cord (or flip the switch on the power supply) I hear a capacitor discharge. If I leave it in the "no power at all" state for about 5 minutes then I can put the plug back in and the computer works perfectly. What is the issue? What do you think I have to replace?

• Advice on new hardware firewall for a small company server-environment

  Hi everyone, My companies currently hardware firewall (an old ZyXEL ZyWALL firewall) and is indeed requiring an update to a new firewall. It is a small company with a similar small server-environment, so the need for a huge, complex and expensive solution isn’t there but a more “straight-forward” firewall, that can provide the necessary security to our systems and block unwanted elements from the core server and only accept access through our one server which is used as an “gateway” between the Internet and our internal network. I haven’t that much experience with hardware firewalls so I’m requesting any good advice and/or knowledge on which products will be suited for our specific need. • Hearing repeated sound in Linux mint Chrome Browser

  I am using Linux mint OS since an Year , I use to consistently download updates and install , I use chrome as a default browser , when ever I open youtube and watch some video , I listen to some repetition in sound ( say repeated lyrics of song ) while it is playing , In firefox it is working fine . What is the problem am I missing any plugin , AFAIK Chrome doesn't need a flash player plug in , It has a built in flash player . IS that the problem ? And also previously I was not facing this , recently I started using Cinimon UI centOS after this all these kind of problems started MY hard ware is 64 bit intel core i3 and also I have installed linux mint 64 bit Please let me know what is the problem and how to fix this . • Unable to logoff, disconnect, or reset terminal server user in production environment

  I'm looking for some ideas on how to disconnect, logoff, or reset a user's session in a 2008 Terminal Server (unable to login as the user either as it is completely locked-up). This is a production environment, so rebooting the server or doing something system-wide is out of the question for now. Any Powershell tricks to help us with this? We've tried to disconnect, log the user off and reset the session as well as killing the session's processes too, directly from the same terminal server (from the task manager, Terminal Services Manager and the Resource Monitor) with no results. Help! UPDATE: We ended up rebooting the server as no other attempts that we could think of worked. I'll leave this question open hoping someone might have more information about this one issue, and it's potential fixes

• Issues connecting to WPA2 with User Authentication Mavericks?

  I was on all the builds of the Mavericks beta and connecting to my University's network was fine. Then I upgraded to the public release and now I can't seem to connect to the internet. I can connect to other networks, but not my schools. Its a WPA2 network with a User Authentication. And my MacBook is a 2011? 2.2 GHz first gen i7 Quad Core with 8 GBs of RAM. Does anyone else have the same issue? Any tips on how to fix it? Thanks! heinst

• What Windows licenses are required to run additional terminal service sessions

  We need to build out a server running Windows 2008 R2 Standard that can allow up to 10 simultaneous RDP/Terminal Services connections and I'm a little confused about how the CAL licenses work. From one source I was told I needed 10 "server CALs" and an additional 10 "RDP CALs" (total of 20 CALs). From another, I was told I just needed the 10 "RDP CALs", which implicitly came with the server CAL. The Microsoft licensing website (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-rds.aspx) seems to support scenario #1, but it is still not real clear what those server CALs are needed for. Also, can we use the 2 "built-in" RDP clients, meaning we only need to purchase 8 CALs to reach a total of 10?

• Can I build a laptop from scratch?

  I've been looking at this as the same approach as building a desktop computer from scratch but I've never really come across the core things. Can I buy a laptop "case"? Can I buy a motherboard/PSU to fit that case? Can I choose a CPU fan? What are my battery options? Obviously taking into consideration the case. Why isn't this as easy as putting together a desktop computer? Shouldn't there be standards such as ATX? If they exist, what are they?

• inetmgr missing after vista iis7 install

  I have installed IIS7 on Vista with all options from Programs and Features->Turn on/off windows features. I have searched for inetmgr accross the whole system with no luck. It is also not present in C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv. The IIS Admin Service is shown as running in the list of all services. Might anyone know what the problem is? My initial problem before this was that after installing IIS and trying to view any arbitrary page via localhost/*filename*, i recieved the error HTTP Error 404.4 - Not Found The resource you are looking for does not have a handler associated with it.

The provider of the system blames the client's computer, and the client calls me for help. I blame the provider, but it is hard to get them to do something about it without rock-solid evidence.   I set up this computer with a Local account. I have linked it to my 'primary' Microsoft account - which is used in the Mail and Store apps. There are no other accounts linked at this time. I wish to use the Messaging app with a different Microsoft account. However, Add an account only lets me add a Facebook account! I don't want to remove or change my primary Microsoft account, since I do not wish to use the Messaging account with any other services.

  Hi, I have a server that after the first configuration it was DHCP, now I have added it to our domain and in a static IP, however after a few moments it returns to DHCP but with only some of the IPv4 setting staying the same, It loses DNS for example. • Can I run ubuntu server 64 bit in a VirtualBox on a macbook host ?

  Hello, I have a macbook pro with Intel Core 2 Due (It's actually not Pro, but it's a January 2009 unibody macbook - when there were both a unibody macbook, and a unibody macbook pro). I'm a php developer. I just installed a new hard drive, and in an effort to create a better development environment, I decided I'll try to create a virtual machine running ubuntu server. Since I need it to work fast (and since, well - it's just better, even if by a little) and I'll already have a delay due to the nature of the apache server being on a virtual host - I want to install a 64 bit version of ubuntu server.   I'm attempting to build a system for co-location. I've been running into issues while trying to install CentOS 6.3 System Specs: Motherboard: ASUS m5a99x Process: AMD FX-8120 (8-core Bulldozer) Memory: 2x 4gb G-Skill 2133 running at 1600 I keeps giving me an error message: CPU1: Not Responding. CPU2: Not Responding. CPU3: Not Responding. CPU4: Not Responding. CPU5: Not Responding. CPU6: Not Responding. Then it instantly restarts. I have tried installing it from USB, Multiple DVDs, Multiple Distros. I have also in the bios attempted to disable cores. I was able to disable 2/3 4/5 6/7. I have also ensured that there is zero overclocking. The system works fine in a windows environment. I'm out of ideas.

• LGA 1155 or LGA 2011? Which has a brighter future?

  I'd basically like to rehash this question, only 22 months later. The last system I built was in 2006, shortly after AMD came out with socket AM2. I was able to upgrade the processor on it 3 times and would love to do the same with my next computer. Since AMD seems to be lagging, I'm going for Intel this time. I've read that Intel changes chip sets all the time, so there's no safe bet. I also read (1 comment on 1 forum) that said LGA 2011 will have 8-core support, but LGA 1155 won't, which leads me to believe that LGA 2011 might be a better choice. Anyone have any good advice for me?

• Windows Azure openSUSE: rcnetwork not starting

  I have a Linux VM in Azure, created from their default image. My problem is simply that the init script network doesn't look like to start, so dependent services (apache, postfix...) won't start. If I run yast runlevel and try to start postfix it asks me to start network first: if I accept, network is started without errors and then postfix is started. While network is configured to start on boot, it just doesn't appear to have started. Anyway, SSH connections work fine. Currently, I had to edit my init scripts and remove network from the Required-Start list, but that didn't work for posftix (even after running systemctl --system daemon-reload). How can I fix all this?

• TTL and traceroute showing different values for same domain

  y am i getting two different output for tracert and ping. Ping Result showing total hops of 20 and tracert showing 8. default ttl value on my linux machine 64,icmp echo reply ttl value 44. 64-44=20 but tracert is showing only 8 hops. What can be the reason? If tracert is implemented using ttl then why am i getting different values for same domain.no matter how many times i tried. Fo google and google services,ttl value and tracrt are same,but for other domains its different.

• Unknown monitor in Lenovo laptop

  I have set of two Lenovo laptops on which Fedora core 13 is installed. On one machine, the monitor is detected properly such that it is possible to connect another monitor. But on another laptop, the monitor is shown as unknown monitor. I tried to fix it by reinstalling xorg-x11-drv-intel.i686. But the problem remains same (unknown monitor) and it is not possible to connect another monitor with this setting. Laptop model: Lenovo G460. Graphics card: Intel Graphics Media accelerator HD.   I would madly appreciate it if anyone in this community would help me with my question. The background is that I want to develop Windows Phone 8 applications but both of my current computer processors do not have Hardware Virtualization & Second Level Address Translation that are needed to run the Emulator. I have my eyes on an AMD computer g7-2243us (I like it because it has 1600x900 screen res). I looked up this Link that shows that this computer's AMD processor (Next Gen AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M Accelerated 1.9GHz up to 2.8GHz 4MB L2 Cache Processor) supports AMD-V Hardware Virtualization. So, will this computer be able to run the emulator? Thank you so much for your answers. I'm pretty sure it will run the emulator, but I just want to make sure before spending $400. However, when I try to install them, for example: sudo apt-get install libisc44 I get some response that this package is missing and/or it may be part of another package. I'm not exactly sure what I should do. I don't want to reinstall ubuntu, since I have it dual booted with Windows Vista and I don't want to risk anything on the Windows partition. • What affects video encoding speeds?

  FRAPs doesn't compress its videos when you record, so the files are enormous. In a long recording you can get up to a few hundred gigabytes. Obviously, usually you would need to convert/compress them. What affects the speed of this? I don't think the RAM does, as when I converted 600 gb my RAM usage only went to 6 gig, but the processor was at 100%, which is surprising as I have a 6 core processor @ 3.46 ghz. Would clock speed or cores help the most?

• CentOS 6: Can not start NFS

  I am unable to start the NFS service. When starting there is no error. But the services are stopt after it. No messages at all in /var/log/messages. Same happens to rpcbind serivce. Any idea what this could be? I also tried to disable iptables. • Technicolor TG582n with external DHCP server [on hold]

  We have a small home setup with a Technicolor TG582n on Plusnet ISP. We have a Samba4 DC with DNS forwarding enabled. The DC forwards to the Technicolor. However, the client machines have their DNS settings manually set. This is an annoyance when using laptops on other networks. We would like to have DHCP handled on the server machine, such that when a client connects to the Technicolor, it gets its IP and DNS information from the DHCP server, eliminating the need to manually set adapter DNS settings. However, I cannot find an option to disable DHCP on the Technicolor and am not completely clear on how one would point DHCP services to the server from the Technicolor if there were the option. So, how would one make the Technicolor use an external server for DHCP leases?
