How can we leverage NSAppearance?

I was reading the Cocoa documentation and stumbled across some new features in the 10.9 API. From the docs I gather that the NSAppearance class and a related protocol NSAppearanceCustomization Appear to be a means of customizing the appearance of NSView and its descendants. An NSAppearance object represents a file that specifies a standard or custom appearance that applies to a subset of UI elements in an app. An app can contain multiple appearance files and—because NSAppearance conforms to NSCoding—you can use Interface Builder to assign UI elements to an appearance. Typically, you customize a window by using Xcode to create an appearance file that contains the views you want to customize and the custom art that should be applied to them. Xcode transforms the file’s art content into a runtime format that AppKit can draw when the specified views are displayed. Well that all sounds neat and promising, but nowhere in the documentation can I find what an appearance file is or how to make one. Google searches are coming up empty other than for the thin documentation I have already read. I do see that UIKit has a similar sounding UIAppearance class, but from what I can tell this is not a straight port of the UIKit class. Does anybody know how to make this magic "appearance file" and what exactly we can do with it?

SWIG: C++ to C#, pointer to pointer marshalling.

I have some legacy code I want to port to C#. I cannot modify the C++ code, I just have to make do with what I'm given. So, the situation. I'm using SwIG, and I came across this function: void MarshalMe(int iNum, FooClass** ioFooClassArray); If I ran SWIG over this, it wouldn't know what to do with the array, so it will create a SWIGTYPE_p_pFooClass. Fair enough! C# code for this would look like void MarshalMe(int iNum, SWIGTYPE_p_p_FooClass ioFooClassArray); // Not ideal! There are some techniques for marshalling this kind of code correctly, so I tried a few of them: %typemap(ctype) FooClass** "FooClass**" %typemap(cstype) FooClass** "FooClass[]" %typemap(imtype, inattributes="[In, Out, MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.LPArray)]") FooClass** "FooClass[]" %typemap(csin) FooClass** "$csinput" %typemap(in) FooClass** "$1 = $input;" %typemap(freearg) FooClass** "" %typemap(argout) FooClass** "" This effectively creates a nicer signature: void MarshalMe(int iNum, FooClass[] ioFooClassArray); // Looks good! Selenium screenshots using rspec

I am trying to capture screenshots on test failure using selenium-client and rspec. I run this command: $ spec my_spec.rb \ --require 'rubygems,selenium/rspec/reporting/selenium_test_report_formatter' \ --format=Selenium::RSpec::SeleniumTestReportFormatter:./report.html It creates the report correctly when everything passes, since no screenshots are required. However, when the test fails, I get this message, and the report has blank screenshots: WARNING: Could not capture HTML snapshot: execution expired WARNING: Could not capture page screenshot: execution expired WARNING: Could not capture system screenshot: execution expired Problem while capturing system stateexecution expired What is causing this 'execution expired' error? Am I missing something important in my spec? ssh tunneling with visualsvn

I have been asked to setup visualsvn for visual studio 2008 Due to firewall restrictions and server configuration. I need to use ssh tunneling. My problem is this. The local machine needs to connect to a gateway machine via ssh then connect to the subversion server so Local machine ---{ssh}--- gateway ---{ssh}-- subversion server I am not exactly sure of the correct process to do this. It appears that I must start a ssh process using plink to open a local port and forward that to the remote subversion server. eg: plink user@gateway -L 22:192.168.1.1:22 Then when visualsvn starts it uses tortoiseplink to make the actual connection through to the subversion server using svn+ssh://username@localhost:22/myrepo This seems very very clunky. firstly it needs several steps to setup the connection secondly I need plink running which leaves a command prompt on the desktop (clutter = yuck) lastly I need to use two different programs that do the same thing. (plink + tortoiseplink) The problem is that tortoiseplink doesn't run in the background. As soon as I connect to the ssh gateway and enter the password it closes again. So I can't use it to create the initial connection. If I use plink instead of tortoiseplink in visualsvn then I never get prompted for the password. so it just hangs with an open command prompt and no password request. Is there a way to setup visualsvn so that everything happens in one command line? I have searched high and low for a suitable and clean method to tunnel from visualsvn to the remote server and have found very little. it all either assumes one hop (not two like mine) or it glosses over all the hard bits. iphone twitter posting

It is mostly working and I can login and post to Twitter. Resize and saving an image to disk in Monotouch

I'm trying to resize an image loaded from disk - a JPG or PNG (I don't know the format when I load it) - and then save it back to disk. I've got the following code which I've tried to port from objective-c, however I've got stuck on the last parts. Original Objective-C. why does windows authentication / impersonation fail on asp.net application with iis 7.5 / windows 7

hi there; i'm troubleshooting why i cannot get past the login dialog on an asp.net site configured for windows authentication and impersonation. help me before i switch to os x development and objective-c i have an asp.net 2.0 application and i'm trying to deploy it on windows 7 with iis 7.5. i've created a new site, and bound it to localhost and a fully qualified domain name. the fqdn is in my hosts file, and is redirected to 127.0.0.1 the site is also running with an appdomain i created, with integrated pipeline mode, and the process model identity is set to ApplicationPoolIdentity. web.config includes the following: <trust level="High" /> <authentication mode="Windows" /> <authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization> <identity impersonate="true"/> acl on the directory for the site is desperation set to everyone full control, the application pool virtual account (windows 7 thing) is set to full control on the physical directory for the site also. iis authentication has asp.net impersonation enabled, and windows authentication enabled. when i connect to the site as localhost, it permits me to get past the login prompt and the application loads without incident. when i connect to the site as the fqdn set in the host headers bindings for this site/ip/port, i cannot get past the login prompt. clicking cancel throws to a http 401.1 error page. why? thanks very much in advance.

Sphinx PHP Geodist problems

Below is my PHP function to call nearby points using Sphinx for MySQL. There are hundreds of thousands of nearby points which to what I can tell, are being indexed by Sphinx, but simply fails silently when searching with Sphinx. How do I copy a python function to a remote machine and then execute it?

I'm trying to create a construct in Python 3 that will allow me to easily execute a function on a remote machine. Assuming I've already got a python tcp server that will run the functions it receives, running on the remote server, I'm currently looking at using a decorator like @execute_on(address, port) This would create the necessary context required to execute the function it is decorating and then send the function and context to the tcp server on the remote machine, which then executes it. Firstly, is this somewhat sane? And if not could you recommend a better approach? I've done some googling but haven't found anything that meets these needs. I've got a quick and dirty implementation for the tcp server and client so fairly sure that'll work. I can get a string representation the function (e.g. func) being passed to the decorator by import inspect string = inspect.getsource(func) which can then be sent to the server where it can be executed. The problem is, how do I get all of the context information that the function requires to execute? For example, if func is defined as follows, import MyModule def func(): result = MyModule.my_func() MyModule will need to be available to func either in the global context or funcs local context on the remote server. In this case that's relatively trivial but it can get so much more complicated depending on when and how import statements are used. Is there an easy and elegant way to do this in Python? The best I've come up with at the moment is using the ast library to pull out all import statements, using the inspect module to get string representations of those modules and then reconstructing the entire context on the remote server. Not particularly elegant and I can see lots of room for error. Thanks for your time

Custom GTK widget to bypass GTK layout engine?

I have an application layer that I'd like to port to Gtk that has all it's own layout code and I don't really want to spend 'n' months re-writting it to work with the Gtk layout system, but rather just using the existing internal layout code and have Gtk render the resulting widgets. I've started by writting my own widget after trying several of the built in containers. Basically I'm looking for something like the GtkFixed container that doesn't have a minimum size, i.e. Gtk will fit the first widget to the entire window, and all the child widgets will lay themselves out so that they fill the area. If I use GtkFixed for that, the window is always limited to the size of the initial layout, as thats the "requested" space. I can't resize it smaller than that using the edges of the window decor. Maybe I need schooling in allocation vs requesting. My googling so far hasn't found the information I need to make this work. I did try. I'm using the C api at the moment, and I'm targetting Win32 and Linux. So far I have a shell app working in Win32 that puts up an empty window. But the first child widget is limiting the resizing to it's initial size.

Does Android XML Layout's 'include' Tag Really Work?

I am unable to override attributes when using <include> in my Android layout files. When I searched for bugs, I found Declined Issue 2863: "include tag is broken (overriding layout params never works)" Since Romain indicates this works in the test suites and his examples, I must be doing something wrong. My project is organized like this: res/layout buttons.xml res/layout-land receipt.xml res/layout-port receipt.xml The buttons.xml contains something like this: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal"> <Button .../> <Button .../> </LinearLayout> And the portrait and landscape receipt.xml files look something like: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> ...  <include android:id="@+id/buttons_override" android:background="#ff0000" android:layout_width="fill_parent" layout="@layout/buttons"/> </LinearLayout> What am I missing?

WCF selfhosted service, installer class and netsh

I have a selfhosted WCF service application which I want to deploy by a msi installer package. The endpoint uses http port 8888. In order to startup the project under windows 2008 after installation I have to either run the program as administrator or have to edit the http settings with netsh: "netsh http add urlacl url=http://+:8888/ user=\Everyone" I want to edit the http settings from my installer class. I have also tried to use Environment.UserName to allow access at least for the current logged on user. But this does also not work, because the installer class is run by the msi service which runs under the user SYSTEM. Hence Enviroment.UserName returns SYSTEM and that is not what I want. Is there a way to grant access to all (or at least for the current logged on) user to my selfhosted WCF service from a msi installer class?

WCF Mono - BasicHttpBinding with SSL

I'm trying to port an existing WCF client application to run on Linux under Mono. Right now I'm testing everything out, figuring out what works on Mono and what doesn't. The client makes a super simple call over basicHttpBinding. It works great, until I enable SSL (that is, specify BasicHttpSecurityMode.Transport in the binding). Running on .NET in Windows, it works great Running on Mono on Ubuntu 9.10 / Mono 2.6 I get the following error: Exception in async operation: System.Net.WebException: Error getting response stream (Write: The authentication or decryption has failed.): SendFailure --- System.IO.IOException: The authentication or decryption has failed. --- Mono.Security.Protocol.Tls.TlsException: Invalid certificate received from server. Error code: 0xffffffff800b010a I've read the Mono security FAQ here: http://www.mono-project.com/FAQ:_Security; however the SSL certificate on the server is from a root CA (a purchased certificate) - issued by Equifax Secure Certificate Authority. I ran the TlsTest tool on the Ubuntu install against the .svc URL and there are no problems/errors. Also I can hit the service fine in Firefox (no security warnings). What am I missing? Permission denied for cvs server via ssh

I cant create a new project by importing a java project via eclipse onto my cvs server via internet. I created a directory as root called /priv/cvs/. Then i called "cvs -d /priv/cvs/ init". I created a user named cvs and a groups called cvs. The repository is owned by cvs and in group cvs. Then i created a user "ben" and his only group is cvs. I "chrooted" the user "ben" accessing only the cvs functionality by not allowing to access the server via ssh with password, only by using a public key which is added in his home directory on the server in file authorized_keys2. the contect of authorized_keys2 is as follows: no-port-forwarding,no-X11-forwarding,command="/usr/bin/cvs server" ssh-rsa [public_key_content] rsa-key Connecting to the server works pretty fine. Eclipse asks for the passphrase for the private key to connect to the server. Authentication works and eclipse is able to run cvs commands. But when importing my project by using Team-Share Project. I get the error: The server reported an error: Permission denied projectname: cvs server: cannot open /priv/cvs/CVSROOT/config: Permission denied projectname: Cannot access /priv/cvs/CVSROOT The access right for the cvs root (/priv/cvs/) is set to 770. Which means that the owner, which is cvs and the group participants of the group cvs are allowed to read and write. Why do i get Permission denied? When i set the folder to 777, which means read/write to ALL, then it works. But i dont want that. I only want cvs users read/write to this folder? Is there something i misunderstood about access rules?

there is an interesting page http://scotdoyle.com/python-epoll-howto.html about how to do asnchronous / non-blocking / AIO http serving in python 3. there is the tornado web server which does include a non-blocking http client. i have managed to port parts of the server to python 3.1, but the implementation of the client requires pyCurl and seems to have problems (with one participant stating how ‘Libcurl is such a pain in the neck’, and looking at the incredibly ugly pyCurl page i doubt pyCurl will arrive in py3+ any time soon). now that epoll is available in the standard library, it should be possible to do asynchronous http requests out of the box with python. i really do not want to use asyncore or whatnot; epoll has a reputation for being the ideal tool for the task, and it is part of the python distribution, so using anything but epoll for non-blocking http is highly counterintuitive (prove me wrong if you feel like it). oh, and i feel threading is horrible. no threading. i use stackless. people further interested in the topic of asynchronous http should not miss out on this talk by peter portante at PyCon2010; also of interest is the keynote, where speaker antonio rodriguez at one point emphasizes the importance of having up-to-date web technology libraries right in the standard library.

Imagine that we use mailbox for exchanging messages,it seems that the communication is transparent. Supports communication protocol extending. We often need to exchange the messages between 2 devices, but the communication protocol is not a public or general one, so we need to extend the framework,to implement a communication protocol for receiving or sending a message completely. Supports asynchronous and synchronous communication Supports transmission protocol extending. The transmission protocol can implemented by winsocket, pipes, com, windows message, mailslot and so forth. C: Running Unix configure file in Windows

I would like to port a few applications that I use on Linux to Windows. In particular I have been working on wdiff. A program that compares the differences word by word of two files. Currently I have been able to successfully compile the program on windows through Cygwin. However, I would like to run the program natively on Windows similar to the Project: UnixUtils. How would I go about porting unix utilities on a windows environment? My possible guess it to manually create the ./configure file so that I can create a proper makefile. Am I on the right track? Has anyone had experience porting GNU software to windows? Update: I've compiled it on Code::Blocks and I get two errors: wdiff.c|226|error: `SIGPIPE' undeclared (first use in this function) readpipe.c:71: undefined reference to `_pipe' readpipe.c:74: undefined reference to `_fork This is a linux signal that is not supported by windows... equvilancy? wdiff.c|1198|error: `PRODUCT' undeclared (first use in this function)| this is in the configure.in file... hardcode would probably be the fastest solution... Outcome: MSYS took care of the configure problems, however MinGW couldnt solve the posix issues. I attempt to utilize pthreads as recommended by mrjoltcola. However, after several hours I couldnt get it to compile nor link using the provided libraries. I think if this had worked it would have been the solution I was after. Special mention to Michael Madsen for MSYS.

Debugging Cactus Tests in Eclipse

Side note: This is inherited code, I didn't do any of the setup and am new to the project. I'm trying to set up remote debugging in Eclipse for these unit tests that use Cactus. I've read around a bit (but I can't seem to find any REAL information how to set this up). Closest I've found is here (http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/community/tutorials/CactusInWTP/CactusInWTP.html), but it just says to Debug - Debug on Server, but nowhere does it say where the debug port is set or anything, and I can't find anything on how to enable this, set it. Just asking to see if anyone has set this up before, it would really help stepping through the code rather than just logging. The plugin (http://jakarta.apache.org/cactus/integration/eclipse/runner_plugin.html) Looks promising, but I also don't even know where to download it, it doesn't link to a location -.- The project uses ant, cactus, and I'm using Eclipse.
