• How do I code a MVC3 Helper

  I’ve just build my first Helper in MVC, it’s very basic and just displays a string where ever I use it. So it’s a .cshtml file in my App_Code folder, I think that is how it's supposed to be set up, with the following code in it, @helper DisplaySelect() { @:This text is coming from an helper class. } Now I am a wiz with helpers how do I make it do things. E.g.. say I want it to query the database and display something, I would normally do that work in my controller. How do I do that with helpers, do I create a helper controller and then treat the helper like a partial view??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Mike.

• Nightmare: Upgrading Tomcat 5.5 to 6.0

  I'm trying to upgrade a perfectly running embedded Tomcat 5.5 to Tomcat 6.0. I understand that all I need to do is replace Tomcat 5.5 jars with 6.0. That's what I did. So I replaced the following jars: catalina-5.0.28.jar catalina-5.5.9.jar catalina-optional-5.5.9.jar commons-el.jar commons-modeler-1.1.0.jar jasper-compiler-jdt.jar jasper-compiler.jar jasper-runtime.jar jmx-5.0.28.jar jsp-api-2.0.jar naming-factory.jar naming-resources.jar servlet-api-2.4.jar servlets-default.jar tomcat-coyote.jar tomcat-http.jar tomcat-util.jar with: annotations-api.jar catalina.jar jasper.jar tomcat-dbcp.jar catalina-ant.jar el-api.jar jsp-api.jar tomcat-i18n-es.jar catalina-ha.jar jasper-el.jar servlet-api.jar tomcat-i18n-fr.jar catalina-tribes.jar jasper-jdt.jar tomcat-coyote.jar tomcat-i18n-ja.jar tomcat-juli.jar As soon as I start the server, I get the following message in the logs at INFO level: INFO: Starting Servlet Engine: Apache Tomcat/6.0.29 Dec 31, 2010 6:04:18 AM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader validateJarFile INFO: validateJarFile(/usr/local/blah/blue/./WEB-INF/lib/servlet-api.jar) - jar not loaded. I swear to God, there is no other conflicting jar file, I grepped system wide for Servlet.class, it matched only servlet-api.jar. I also downloaded javaee.jar and replaced it by servlet-api.jar, to same avail. Having tried lot of these stuff, I did not have much to look upto, so set the tomcat logging level to ALL. In the log I could see that it is trying to check for Servlet.class in each and every jar it is loading until it finds servlet-api.jar and throws "jar not loaded" message as soon as it finds servlet-api.jar. One interesting thing though, I manually created a dummy jsp file containing only "helloooo" just outside WEB-INF folder(no security constraints for this file). This file was accessible and could be displayed. But, all my jsp's and classes are inside WEB-INF(ofcourse). Sick and tired of this issue, please help me solve it. I've already spent 20-24 hours on this unsuccessfully. Any pointers directions hints leads?

  Hi, I am using Oracle10g. One of my tables contain column of type NCLOB. I want to change the column's data by query or by the use of the SQL Developer. But i don't know, it is not allowing me to update the value. 1)Can anyone please help me why this is happening? 2)Or should i use some other datatypes in place of the NCLOB. (i want nvarchar(max)).   hey all, im using linq2SQL to grab information from my SQL database, i have a gridview which shows all the top level information, in this case a list of groups (i.e admin, users and so on) when a user clicks say the admin group, i want to be able to show each member in that group, i have the following code which grabs the information from the database, DataClassesDataContext dc = new DataClassesDataContext(); GridViewRow row = GridView1.SelectedRow; var query1 = from p in dc.Users where p.groups.GroupID == Int32.Parse(row.Cells[1].Text) select new { p.Name, p.Address, p.Contact Number, p.Bio, }; i no i can use gridview again to display the results of the query, but this doesnt really look nice as it shows too much information at one, how would i go about having some sort of display which will show just one user at a time giving me the chance to click next and back ? thanks

It has following 4 columns id source_clust target_clust result_clust 1 7 72 649 2 9 572 650 3 649 454 651 4 32 650 435 This data is like tree structure. source_clust and target_clust generate target_clust. target_clust can be source_clust or target_clust to make a new target_clust. Is there any php function or class that I can use to generate tree structure for my data???? I see this MySql site they are doing exactly what I need but I couldn't find how to implement that query in my data. Thanks !   here is my mysql and php code layout: -i have 3 tables -tableA stores unique "person" information -tableB stores unique "places" information -tableC stores not unique information about a person and places they have "beenTo". here is how i layed out my form: -one big form to insert into "person" tableA; "beenTo" tableC in the form, a person mulitple selects "places" which get inserted into "beenTo" my question is, when i am editing a "person" how do i display what the user has already selected to appear on my multiple select options drop down menu? my drop down menu at the moment query "places" table and displays it in a multiple select drop down menu. its easier when a person have beenTo one place, the problem arrises when there is more than one "beenTo" places? any ideas. thanks

  Is it possible to specify which character encoding should be used by OLEDB when querying a DBF file? A possible work-around would be to encode the query string before the OLEDB call to the DBF file's character encoding and then encode all the results when they are returned. This will work but it would be nice if OLEDB or possibly ADO.NET could do this for me. UPDATE The suggestion by Viktor Jevdokimov does not seem to work automatically. But it made me investigate manual conversion of the strings. It is possible to use the TextInfo property of CultureInfo to find out the OemCodePage and the WindowsCodePage and use those to get the corresponding Encoding instances to perform manual conversion. But I can not get ADO.NET use these encondings to perform the conversion for me.

  Hi, I'm learning about SNMP, and writing some applications using it. I have some basic questions about the protocol: Do the agents store its state on the device itself? If there is a trap set on an agent, can you do a poll on the same OID to get the same information? Without using a mib file, is there a way to query a device for all of its information at once? If not, and you're writing your own customized manager, do you have to know the structure of what it reports up front? If you're setting up an agent to report, is there usually a way to control the frequency of how often it sends a trap? Or does it usually send a trap as often as some condition is satisfied?

  I'm having issues with a table. I'm using the following to create my insert query... $validatedData = array(); foreach ($post as $key => $value) { if ($key != 'submit' && $key != 'dz_tos' && $key != 'dz_billShip') { $validatedData[$key] = filter_var($value, FILTER_SANITIZE_STRING); } } mysql_query("INSERT INTO dz_users(".implode(array_keys($validatedData), ',').", dz_access_level) VALUES(\"".implode($validatedData, '\",\"')."\", 1)"); So every column has a value to match it. The problem is that I'm getting the SQL error: Column count doesn’t match value count at row 1 The database is an innoDB and all columns are varChar/Char except for the ID field which is an auto increment primary key.

  Here's what I'm trying to do using the Wikipedia (MediaWiki) API - http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php Do a GET on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?format=xml&action=opensearch&search=[keyword] to retrieve a list of suggested pages for the keyword Loop through each suggested page using a GET on http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?format=json&action=query&export&titles=[page title] Extract any paragraphs found on the page into an array Do something with the array I'm stuck on #3. I can see a bunch of JSON data that includes "\n\n" between paragraphs, but for some reason the PHP explode() function doesn't work. Essentially I just want to grab the "meat" of each Wikipedia page (not titles or any formatting, just the content) and break it by paragraph into an array. Any ideas? Thanks!

If I'm not mistaken this should be as simple as: JdbcTemplate template = new JdbcTemplate(datasource); template.setFetchSize(1); // template.setFetchSize(Integer.MIN_VALUE) does not work either template.query("SELECT * FROM cdr", new RowCallbackHandler() { public void processRow(ResultSet rs) throws SQLException { System.out.println(rs.getString("src")); } }); I get an OutOfMemoryError because it is trying to read the whole thing. Any ideas?

  I currently have the following code: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !assets/ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !uploads/ RewriteRule ^([a-z|0-9_&;=-]+)/([a-z|0-9_&;=-]+) index.php?method=$1&value=$2 [NC,L] This works perfectly to redirect 'page/home' to 'index.php?method=page&value=home. However at some points I need to add an extra variable or two to the query string such as 'admin/useraccounts/mod/2'. When I simply tack on bits to the end of the rewrite rule it works if all the variables are 'page/home/rand/rand' or 'admin/useraccounts/mod/2', but if anything is missing such as 'page/home' I get a 404. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks.

• Asp.net mvc application deployment / security issues

  I'll start with appologies; I wasn't sure if this was best posted here of Server Fault so if its in the wrong place then please move :-) Basic information I have written the first module of a new application at work. This is written using Visual Studio 2010, targetting .net 3.5 (at the moment) and asp.net mvc 2. This has been working fine during development running on the built in Development server from VS but however does not work once deployed to IIS 7/7.5. To deploy the application, I have built it in release mode and created a deployment package by right clicking on the project in the solution explorer (this will be done with an automated build in tfs once upgrade from the beta). This has then been imported into IIS on the server. The application is using windows/domain authentication. Issue #1 I can fire up internet explorer and browse to the application from a client computer as well as on a remote desktop connection. I can execute the code which reads/stores data in Session fine from the IE instance on the remote desktop but if I browse to it from the client pc it seems to lose the session state. I click on the form submit and the page refreshes and doesn't execute the required code. I've tried setting with; InProc, SQLServer and StateServer. but with no luck :-( Issue #2 As part of the application it views PDF and Tiff documents on the fly which are on a network share on the office network and creates thumbnails if the document hasn't been viewed before. This works if running on the machine the application is deployed to; however when browsing from a client pc I get an error saying: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.tif' is denied Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\fileserver\folder\file.TIF' is denied. ASP.NET is not authorized to access the requested resource. Consider granting access rights to the resource to the ASP.NET request identity. ASP.NET has a base process identity (typically {MACHINE}\ASPNET on IIS 5 or Network Service on IIS 6) that is used if the application is not impersonating. If the application is impersonating via , the identity will be the anonymous user (typically IUSR_MACHINENAME) or the authenticated request user. As this is on a different server the user is not accessible. To get round this I have tried: 1 - setting the application pool to run as domain administrator (I know this is a security risk, but I'm just trying to get it to work at the moment!) 2 - to set the log on account for World Wide Web Publishing service to be the domain admin . When trying to restart the service I get ... Windows could not start the World Wide Web Publishing Service service on the Local Computer. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified fro the other services running in the same process. Any pointers/help would be much appriciated as I'm pulling my hair out (of what little I have left). Update I've been using this funky little tool I found - DelegConfig v2 beta (Delegation / Kerberos Configuration Tool). This has been really usefull. So I've got the accessing of the file share working (there is a test page which will read the files) so now I've just got the issue of passing through the users credentials through to the SQL Server (wans't my choice to do it this way!!) to execute the queries etc. but I can't get it to log on as the user. It tries to access it as "NT Authority\Network Service" which doesn't have a sql login (as should be the logged on user). My connection string is: <add name="User" connectionString="Data Source=.;Integrated Security=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> No initial catalog is specified as the system is over multiple dbs (also wasn't my choice!!). I really appriciate all the help so far! :-) Any further hints?!

• How to get a list of items when using cassandra

  When using a nosql type datastore like Cassandra, how would you return a result set based on a column? e.g. SELECT * FROM Articles WHERE category='blah' ORDER BY datetime DESC is this something that you would store in a sql db and then pull the data from cassandra? Or can cassandra handle this type of query? (assuming millions of rows in a db) From what I understand, cassandra is great at key based lookups, confused if it can and should be used for getting a list of data back and paging that data also (and if it is highly performant)

• Catch database exception in Kohana

  I'm using Kohana 2. I would like to catch a database exception to prevent an error page when no connection to the server can be established. The error displayed is system/libraries/drivers/Database/Mysql.php [61]: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 The database server is not reachable at all at this point. I'm doing this from a model. I tried both public function __construct() { // load database library into $this->db try { parent::__construct(); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } } as well as try { $hoststatus = $this->db->query('SELECT x FROM y WHERE z;'); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } ...but none of them seemed to work. It seems as if no exception gets passed on from the main model. Is there another way to catch the database error and use my own error handling?

Even if any record fails in middle, i have to take next record for process and failed record need to log for audit. I don't want to put insert query with in for loop. Could you please suggest a best way to do this. If I can use bulkcopy methods or Data Adapter update methods- Its very nice, But if any record fails, execution of that statement breaks and rolled back totally, right?   Hi, I have query regarding the disposing of an object. The scenario is as follows. In a Desktop Appication, developed in C#, I have a function in which a object in created like this. namespace Class 1 { variables section; .... .... Function1() { local variables; try { Object1 obj = new Object1(); .... .... if(true) { .... } else { **obj.Dispose();** } } catch() {} finally {} } } The object is not disposed when the else part is executed. The msdn link for this is http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.componentmodel.component.dispose(VS.90).aspx according to which the component should realase all the resources used by it.   I'm trying to add suggestions to product pages along the lines of : "Customers who purchased this item also purchased x and y". The way the data is compiled right now is a mysql table with 3 rows. PRODUCT | CUSTOMER |QUANTITY Product is the product ID. Customer is the customer ID. Quantity is the number of time that product was bought by that customer. For each product description page, the system needs to figure out which users bought that product, what other products those users bought, in what quantity and then return the 2 products that were bought the most by people who bought the current product. Hopefully this makes sense and someone can point me in the right directions as to what the mysql query should look like. Thanks.

  hi guys, suppose i have one column in mysql database which is stated last time one equipment is up in h:i:s format (ex: 00:05:11) or 1d21h, means that the equipment is on since 5 min before, what is the best method i can convert this to unix timestamp, say if using php script how? or direct convert last unix timestamp using mysql function query. actually, i want to calculate for start time for this equipment uptime in unix timestamp where i have one column in mysql startcapture that will be deducted with last column to get start time. so starttime = startcapture - last (this last time that has to convert to unix timestamp based on now() - h:i:s ). but the problem is sometimes the format change from h:i:s to ex: 1d22h, if h:i:s means the equipment is up since ex: 00:05:11 min before and if 1d22h means the equipment already up 1 day 22 hours before. so the main things here is to convert last column to appropriate unix timestamp. please help guys, asap.

• Detecting first time login of user into application (Google Appengine)

  My app requires users to login using their google account. I have this set in my App.yamp file: url: /user/.* script: user.py login: required Now when any user tries to access files under /user/secret.py he will need to authenticate via google, which will redirect the user back to /user/secret.py after successful authentication. Now the problem I am facing is when the user is redirected back to the app, I cannot be sure if this is the first time the user has logged in or is it a regular user to my site who has come back again from just the user object which google passes using users.get_current_user() . I thus need to maintain state in the datastore to check if the user already exists or not everytime. If he does not exist i need to create a new entry with other application specific settings. My question is: Is there some easier way to handle this? without having to query the datastore to figure if this is a first time user or a regular one?
