  • How can I multiply each item in an array easily with PHP?

    I have an array called $times. It is a list of small numbers (15,14,11,9,3,2). These will be user submitted and are supposed to be minutes. As PHP time works on seconds, I would like to multiply each element of my array by 60. I've been playing around with array_walk and array_map but I can't get those working :S Thanks.

I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this: list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw'] As you see each element of this array contains some words. These words is both lowercase and uppercase. How I can delete from this array each lowercase words? For example I'd like to have as result this list: list = [ 'NICE' , 'FLOWER' , 'GOOD' , 'YELLOW']

I want to know what all major browsers (including the versions!, cos i know that the latest builds do support canvas) support the Canvas tag. I don't give a damn about IE. So don't bother reporting IE. :) In this tutorial Drawing shapes - MDC, the quadraticCurveTo section says: quadraticCurveTo(cp1x, cp1y, x, y) // BROKEN in Firefox 1.5 (see work around below) Does that mean that Canvas is supported on Firefox 1.5 and above too?

    Suppose I want to build a server for the university's academic interests. The server is dedicated only to a site, where users (students and lecturers) just view and fill the academic data. But at a time (e.g. once a semester), about 12,000 students will access the site simultaneously. Due to limitation of resources, I have to build the server using free software (except for the operating system Windows 7, the university has been prepared). The hardware is also limited to the usual 4-core computers (eg, Ivy Bridge Intel Core i7-3770) with approximately 16GB of memory (DDR3 1600 MHz), equipped with an RJ-45 port (Intel 82 579 Gigabit Ethernet). With all these limitations, I have to choose the software (web server, database, etc) are appropriate for this purpose is achieved. I decided to create a site in PHP. Please help me by answering the following questions based on your expertise. (my prime candidate software to consider after googling) Web server which is faster & stable & secure, when implemented and optimized for PHP? And why? (nginx) PHP accelerator which is faster & stable & compatible with the selected web server? And why? (APC with Zend Optimizer+) Database which is faster & stable & secure, when implemented and optimized for selected web server and selected PHP accelerator? (MySQL) Are there any errors that have been or will be happening from my condition is? If there is, please enlighten me? Is there anything else I need to know in order to achieve this goal? If there is, please enlighten me? I understand that the performance also depends on the implementation of source-code program, so I assume it will create a site with the best efficiency (e.g. using AJAX).

  • Jquery interactive table - multiple instance problem

    Hello forgive me if i use the wrong terminology and the messiness of this code it is the first time I have used jquery. I am making an interactive table-product selector. Compatible systems run along the top and colour choices down the left. The table works by seeing if there is a cell is empty in a html table. If the cell is empty then that is a compatible system and a circle image is in that cell and it is selectable. When selected the product code is generated (by looking at the colour value and system name) and the relevant resource download pack can be downloaded. This works 'fine' when on its own on a page however when I have multiple instances of it on one page they interfere with each other. Only the first one works and clicking in the 2nd 3rd etc table updates the first one. I need these to function independant of each other.   • A case-insensitive related implementation problem

    Hi All, I am going through a final refinement posted by the client, which needs me to do a case-insesitive query. I will basically walk through how this simple program works. First of all, in my Java class, I did a fairly simple webpage parsing: title=(String)results.get("title"); doc = docBuilder.parse("http://" + server + ":" + port + "/exist/rest/db/wb/xql/media_lookup.xql?" + "&title=" + title); This Java statement references an XQuery file "media_lookup.xql" which is stored on localhost, and the only parameter we are passing is the string "title". Secondly, let's take at look at that XQuery file: $title := request:get-parameter('title',""), $mediaNodes := doc('/db/wb/portfolio/media_data.xml'), $query := $mediaNodes//media[contains(title,$title)], Then it will evaluate that query. This XQuery will get the "title" parameter that are passes from our Java class, and query the "media_data" xml file stored in the database, which contains a bunch of media nodes with a 'title' element node. As you may expect, this simple query will just match those media nodes whose 'title' element contains a substring of what the value of string 'title' is. So if our 'title' is "Chi", it will return media nodes whose title may be "Chicago" or "Chicken". The refinment request posted by the client is that there should be NO case-sensitivity. The very intuitive way is to modify the XQuery statement by using a lower-case funtion in it, like: $query := $mediaNodes//media[contains(lower-case(title/text(),lower-case($title))], However, the question comes: this modified query will run my machine into memory overflow. Since my "media_data.xml" is quite huge and contains thouands of millions of media nodes, I assume the lower-case() function will run on each of the entries, thus causing the machine to crash. I've talked with some experienced XQuery programmer, and they think I should use an index to solve this problem, and I will definitely research into that. But before that, I am just posting this problem here to get other ideas or any suggestions, do you think any other way may help? for example, could I tweak the Java parse statement to realize the case-insensitivity? Since I think I saw some people did some string concatination by using "contains." in Java before passing it to the server. Any idea or help is welcomed, thanks in advance.

  • Why are (almost) all the on-line games written in ActionScript (Flash) not Java?

    I absolutely love good defender games (e.g. Gemcraft, Protector: reclaiming the throne) as they can be intellectually quite challenging; it's like playing chess but a little less thinking a bit more action. Sadly, there are not that many good ones out there and I thought I would create one myself and share it with the rest of the world by making it available on-line. I have never worked with ActionScript but when it comes to on-line games, this is the main choice. I have tried to find a decent 2D game in the form of a Java applet but to no avail. Why is this so? I could write the game, most comfortably, in Delphi for Win32 but then people would need to download the executable, which could deter some form downloading it, and also it would only work on Windows. I am also familiar with Java, having worked with Java for the last four years or so. Although I don't have much experience with games programming. Should I note be deterred by the fact that all online games are written for in Flash and create my defender game as a Java applet, or should I consider learning ActionScript and games development for the ActionScript Virtual Machine (AS3 looks very much like Java... but still, it's an entirely new technology to me and I might never use it professionally.) Could you, please, just answer the the question in the title? Why Flash, not Java applets? Is it only 'politics'?

  • Best practice how to store HTML in a database column

    I have an application that modifies a table dynamically, think spreadsheet), then upon saving the form (which the table is part of) ,I store that changed table (with user modifications) in a database column named html_Spreadhseet,along with the rest of the form data. right now I'm just storing the html in a plain text format with basic escaping of characters... I'm aware that this could be stored as a separate file, the source table (html_workseeet) already is. But from a data handling perspective its easier to save the changed html table to and from a column so as to avoid having to come up with a file management strategy (which folder will this live in, now must include folder in backups, security issues now need to apply to files, how to sync db security with file system etc.), so to minimize these issues I'm only storing the ... part in the database column. My question is should I gzip the HTML , maybe use JSON, or some other format to easily store and retrieve the HTML from the database column, what is the best practice to store HTML content in a datbase? Or just store it as I currently am as an escaped text column?

Desired output: I want a list of elements, where each element is: x-coordinate y-coordinate font_name character_id Basically, I want to take a LaTeX file, r"render it", but instead of printing it / getting an image, I want it to say "okay, you have a Sigma symbol here, then you have a 'x' symbol there, ...)   • Stopping work from one thread using another thread

    Not sure if my title is worded well, but whatever :) I have two threads: the main thread with the work that needs to be done, and a worker thread that contains a form with a progress bar and a cancel button. In normal code, it would be the other way around, but I can't do that in this case. When the user clicks the cancel button, a prompt is displayed asking if he wants to really cancel the work. The problem is that work continues on the main thread. I can get the main thread to stop work and such, but I would like for it to stop doing work when he clicks "Yes" on the prompt.     I am using the Jquery Validation plug-in, however i need to add a "custom rule", i have 2 date fields and i need to ensure that the end date is not less than the start date. My problem is how to pass the two fields in as elements. As i understand u set up a custom function something like this : function customValidationMethod(value, element, params){ } But can't see how i could use it with two fields, if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated.
