  Simple task: given that an article has many comments, be able to display in a long list of articles how many comments each article has. I'm trying to work out how to preload this data with Arel. The "Complex Aggregations" section of the README file seems to discuss that type of situation, but it doesn't exactly offer sample code, nor does it offer a way to do it in two queries instead of one joined query, which is worse for performance. Given the following: class Article has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :article end How can I preload for an article set how many comments each has?

  I am representing a Solar-System's planets with ImageButtons that show the planet's image on the surface of the button, and hold the planet's important data.. name, distance from sun, etc within an instance of a Planet class, stored within the ImageButton.Content property. When the ImageButton is selected, I am attempting to access and display the Planet class's data for the selected Planet. Although ((ImageButton)e.OriginalSource).Content permits viewing all of the Planet class's properties in the debugger, I haven't figured out how to access the Planet class properties directly, as in Pluto.DistanceFromTheSun? Is it possible to access the Planet class information held in the ImageButton contents directly?

And I have a class, MyClass, that has a property of type MyCanvas. In XAML, I built a TabControl, so each TabItem binds to a MyClass object. Now, in the Content of every tab I want to display MyObject.MyCanvas. • GWT: use the same UI template for multiple pages?

  Hello, how can I use the same UI template (*.ui.xml file) with multiple Java objects extending from Composite? I need to build several pages that should display basically the same information with the same layout, but on one page some fields will be editable, and on a different page other fields will be editable. I would like to specify layout only once in ui.xml, and create different behaviors in different *.java classes. • DataAnnotations Automatic Handling of int is Causing a Roadblock

  Summary: DataAnnotation's automatic handling of an "int?" is making me rethink using them at all. Maybe I'm missing something and an easy fix but I can't get DataAnnotations to cooperate. I have a public property with my own custom validation attribute: [MustBeNumeric(ErrorMessage = "Must be a number")] public int? Weight { get; set; } The point of the custom validation attribute is do a quick check to see if the input is numeric and display an appropriate error message. The problem is that when DataAnnotations tries to bind a string to the int? is automatically doesn't validate and displays a "The value 'asdf' is not valid for Weight." For the life of me I can't get DataAnnotations to stop handling that so I can take care of it in my custom attribute. This seems like it would be a popular scenario (to validate that the input in numeric) and I'm guessing there's an easy solution but I didn't find it anywhere.

• How to use Win32 SetCursor() with WPF resource and HwndHost

  We have an HwndHost UIElement in our WPF application which is used to display Direct3d graphics, and the only way I have found to set a cursor for the HwndHost UIElment is to call the Win32 API SetCursor(). All of our cursors are resources in managed assemblies, and I would prefer to not change that, but I have not been able to find a way to load one of these cursors via any Win32 APIs like LoadImage(). Does anybody know how to get a handle(hCursor) to a cursor which is a resource in a managed assembly? Or, is there another way to set a cursor on an HwndHost displaying Direct3D graphics?

  I want to add my own session variable to elmah error log table and display it. I already have modified the source code and added the new fields to Error.cs and other fields but I don't know but when I assign an HttpContext.Current.Session["MyVar"].tostring() value to my field in the constructor it stops logging exceptions and does not log any exception. I just need to get the value of the session variable is there other way for this. I read a post which he added fields for the email but it does not say where exactly should I get the session value.

• Building a blog: what's standard?

  I'm generally pretty new at web stuff. I wanted to build a blog from scratch to get some practice. Few questions: Do most people add new entries of a blog by directly editing the html or is there a more dynamic way of doing this that is used more frequently? I'm assuming you can store the entries in some type of database and then display them via javascript or something similar? What are the most frequently used tools for what I'm describing? I know its about as simple as it gets, but like most things, I just need some tips to get started. Thanks!

• Segue Popover won't behave properly

  I'm trying to use Segue to present then dismiss a Popover view a UIBarButtonItem is clicked. I've created a generic Segue that is not anchored to anything but the view and given it a name I've Anchored the UIBarButtonItem in the Interface Builder to: - (IBAction)clickedSettings:(id)sender { if(self.popSegue != nil) { [self.popSegue.popoverController dismissPopoverAnimated:YES]; } else { //Current says only a button may [self performSegueWithIdentifier:@"Settings" sender:sender]; } } But when ever i click the button to display the Segue it gives me an error: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'UIStoryboardPopoverSegue must be presented from a bar button item or a view.'   I have multiple pages with java applet written with SWT. The problem is, applet loads only on first page, to load it on another page i need restart browser, otherwise i get following error: Exception in thread "Thread-27" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Could not load SWT library. • Using HandVU with OpenCV on Mac OS X 10.6.3

  Hi, I've tried to user HandVU with OpenCV but when I tried to run "hvOpenCV config/default.conductor" I get a "Segmentation fault".   The Challenge The shortest code by character count to display a representation of a circle of radius R using the *character, followed by an approximation of p. Input is a single number, R. Since most computers seem to have almost 2:1 ratio you should only output lines where y is odd. The approximation of p is given by dividing twice the number of * characters by R². The approximation should be correct to at least 6 significant digits. Leading or trailing zeros are permitted, so for example any of 3, 3.000000, 003 is accepted for the inputs of 2 and 4.   Hi, I have a long text string (including \n newline charactersthat I feed into a UILabel for display. The UILabel is dynamically setup to provide sufficient space foor the text. • Sharepoint - connectable receiving, XSLT editable web part?

  You can use the "Data View" webpart to take data from a database call, then you can edit the XSLT manually to make it look and do whatever you want, within the scope of that data and XSLT capabilities. Is there a web part that allows me to do the same thing, but with data that is received by a connected webpart source rather than a database set? For example: I'd like to be able to pull in a Data View webpart that queries a bunch of data and makes it available all over the page. Then, I would like to hide that Data View. Once it is hidden, I'd like to be able to take another customizable webpart and pull a field (or multiple fields if possible) from the Data View webpart via a webpart connection. This would allow me to display various fields in creative formats without having to call the same query multiple times on the same page by different webparts. Is there an in house webpart that will allow me to do this?

• Replace with wildcard, in SQL

  I know MS T-SQL does not support regular expression, but I need similar functionality. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a varchar table field which stores a breadcrumb, like this: /ID1:Category1/ID2:Category2/ID3:Category3/ Each Category name is preceded by its Category ID, separated by a colon. I'd like to select and display these breadcrumbs but I want to remove the Category IDs and colons, like this: /Category1/Category2/Category3/ Everything between the leading slash (/) up to and including the colon (:) should be stripped out. I don't have the option of extracting the data, manipulating it externally, and re-inserting back into the table; so I'm trying to accomplish this in a SELECT statement. I also can't resort to using a cursor to loop through each row and clean each field with a nested loop, due to the number of rows returned in the SELECT. Can this be done? Thanks all - Jay

• AJAX get data from large HTML page as the large HTML page loads

  Not entirely sure whether this has a name but basically I have a large HTML page that is generated from results in a db. So viewing the HTML page (which is a report) in a browser directly does not display all contents immediately but displays what it has and additional HTML is added as the results from the DB are retrieved... Is there a way I can make an AJAX request to this HTML page and as opposed to waiting until the whole page (report) is ready, I can start processing the response as the HTML report is loaded? Or is there another way of doing it? Atm I make my AJAX response it just sits there for a minute or two until the HTML page is complete... If context is of any use: The HTML report is generated by a Java servlet and the page making the AJAX call is a JSP page. Unfortunately I can't very easily break the report up because it is generated by BIRT (Eclipse reporting extension). Thanks in advance.

  Any idea how to implement 'page break' in epub reader? .epub is nothing but HTML pages, and epub reader renders those html pages. but i wonder how some epub readers like Adobe Digital Edition implemented page break. There,when we jump to any page, you will not find half displayed line(i.e only upper part of the letters visible and lower part will be in the next page) or half images where the other part in the next page. How to push the line to next page if i cannot display it completely in the current page?

• ASP.NET Session does not timeout on using ReportViewer Control.

  Hi, We are using the ReportViewer control to display SSRS reports in our ASP.NET application. On pages where we use the ReportViewer control the session does not time out. The reason for this is the ReportViewer control emits a "setTimeOut" javascript function which reads the Session timeout value from the web.config and pings the server 1 minute before the configured value and keeps the session alive. For example, if the session timeout value is 5 minutes, the ReportViewer pings the server on the 4th minute. We used fidldler to verify this behavior. In addition, if we remove the ReportViewer control from the page, the sessions times out as expected. We also tried using the ReportViewer control in a sample application and observed the same behaviour. Has anyone faced this issue? Regards, Saurabh

• Fastest way to convert datatable to generic list

  I have a data tier select method that returns a datatable. It's called from a business tier method that should then return a strongly typed generic List. What I want to do is very similar (but not the same as) this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/208532/how-do-you-convert-a-datatable-into-a-generic-list What's different is that I want the list to contain strongly-typed objects rather than datarows (also, I don't have linq avaiable here yet). I'm concerned about performance. The business tier method will in turn be called from the presentation tier, and the results will be iterated for display to the user. It seems very wasteful to add an extra iteration at the business tier, only do it again right away for the presentation, so I want this to be as quick as possible. This is a common task, so I'm really looking for a good pattern that can be repeated over and over.

• Screen Capture Under Win7 of JOGL Applet

  Hi I'm trying to take a screen shot of an applet running inside a browser. The applet is using JOGL (OpenGL for Java) to display 3D models. (1) The screen shots always come out either black or white.The current solution uses the usual GDI calls. Screen shots of applets not running OpenGL are fine. A few examples of JOGL apps can be found here https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/ (2) Another thing I'm trying to achieve is to get the scrollable area inside the screen shot as well.
