• Google suggest API does not work with Chinese locale

  Hi, everyone! I have a problem with Google suggest API when using Chinese locale. I am picking Chinese hieroglyphs at random and use the REST API to retrieve suggestions. Unfortunately, Google always return an empty list of suggestions (I am completely sure, that I convert my request in utf-8, and it is working fine with other languages, ex. Russian): Sample request: http://suggestqueries.google.com/complete/search?qu=%E9%80%9F Google answer: window.google.ac.h(["?",[]]) Does anyone know how to retrieve suggestions for Chinese locale? Maybe I am missing some flags or something? Maybe there is an official document from Google, saying that Chinese is not supported? And are there any people from China, using Google toolbar? Does it really work? I'd appreciate any help! If it matters, I am writing a simple WinAPI application, using C++...

• Django, ModelForms, User and UserProfile - not hashing password

  I'm trying to setup a User - UserProfile relationship, display the form and save the data. When submitted, the data is saved, except the password field doesn't get hashed. Additionally, how can I remove the help_text from the username and password (inherited from the User model)? Full code is below, excuse me if it's too long. • MDX performance vs. T-SQL

  I have a database containing tables with more than 600 million records and a set of stored procedures that make complex search operations on the database. The performance of the stored procedures is so slow even with suitable indexes on the tables. The design of the database is a normal relational db design. I want to change the database design to be multidimensional and use the MDX queries instead of the traditional T-SQL queries but the question is: Is the MDX query better than the traditional T-SQL query with regard to performance? and if yes, to what extent will that improve the performance of the queries? Thanks for any help.

  I am trying to figure out just how "efficient" my server-side code is. Using start and end microtime(true) values, I am able to calculate the time it took my script to run. I am getting times from .3 - .5 seconds. These scripts do a number of database queries to return different values to the user. What is considered an efficient execution time for PHP scripts that will be run online for a website? Note: I know it depends on exactly what is being done, but just consider this a standard script that reads from a database and returns values to the user. Also, I look at Google and see them search the internet in .15 seconds and I feel like my script is crap. Thanks.

  My first project in java is going to be a program (eventually I have to create a GUI interface but for now CLI would do) to keep track of my books (something similar to what libraries have only a simpler). I need to be able to insert, update, remove, show all books, update, search(by name or author or date). For the design I was thinking one main class Library which will have all of the above as methods that connect to the db and retrieve the data. Is this approach ok? I realize it's simple but it's my first real project and I would appreciate a little feedback. Also, is it too soon to consider reading up on design patterns and database design ?

  Hello. This question may sounds trivial, but i am struggling with the issue, so, please help if u can. So, here it is : i am using a CheckboxTreeViewer for some good reasons. I've google-it for some class usages, and i am currently able to check/uncheck all the childrens of a selected node, and to preserve the selection after a live search with a custom implementation of the StyledCellLabelProvider provider. All good so far. However, so far i am unable to programatically select one or more elements of the tree viewer after i display the widget and call the setInput() method of the viewer. So, let's assume for instance that the tree will have 10 main nodes, and 5 leafs on node 6. My question is how do i set the checked state of the 3rd leaf? Thank u.

• Can someone suggest a way to learn regex?

  In my situation knowing Regex would be very useful but I can't seem to be able to learn it. I completely don't understand it and I find it quite strange. To me Regex is just a set of jumbled up symbols which 'somehow' does the job. I looked at many tutorials and still haven't figured how to use it. The other thing I find weird that whenever I search for a way to implement something with regex I find lots of different solutions. For example these are for 'matching text between the brackets' 1: \((.*?)\) 2: ((.+?)) That confuses me even more ... Can someone suggest a good way of learning it? Personally I find it even more difficult than assembly language. For now I'm avoiding Regex and using things such as "substr" to get the bits I need.

I want to search locations only in UK. I thought that specifying 'region': 'uk' should be enough but it's not. When I type in "Boston" it founds Boston in US and I wanted the one in UK. How to restrict Geocoder to return locations only from one country or maybe from a certain lat lng range? Thanks

  Hi, When searching, is there a way to disable scoring for any query? The scenario is that the user refines his query by trying different combinations of words, phrases etc., and needs realtime (well, reasonably fast at least) responses on the number of hits. Search time slows down a lot when there are millions of hits due to scoring, but the user really doesn't care about all these documents. As soon as he sees there are 1M+ hits he will start adding additional words to the query. A "Sort by relevance" option would allow him to do this quickly, while turning scoring back on when the number of hits is reasonable. Is this possible? I'm using Lucene.NET 2.9.2 but AFAIK it is identical to the Java version.

  I'm using the following HTML code to autoselect some text in a form field when a user clicks on the field: input onfocus="this.select()" type="text" value="Search" This works fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer (the purpose being to use the default text to describe the field to the user, but highlight it so that on click they can just start typing), but I'm having trouble getting it to work in Chrome. When I click the form field in Chrome the text is highlighted for just a split second and then the cursor jumps to the end of the default text and the highlighting goes away. Any ideas on how to get this working in Chrome as well?

  On simple forms with one text box pressing enter submits the form (and this is great for easy search forms) However on a form with multiple fields, pressing Enter in an input="text" box won't do anything (e.g. submit) but in IE it "Dings" as if you have tried to delete an undeletable object. The question is... what event do I need to suppress in IE to stop this sound? e.g. if I have a username/password form, I DO want the enter key to submit the form, but I certainly don't want the "error" sound.   Ok, just wondering on the versions of PHP that this class is built into. And if they are built into all platforms (OS's). I'm wanting an approach to search through a zip file and place files using file_put_contents in different filepaths within the webroot. In any case, I'm familiar with how to do this with the ZipArchive class, but I'm wondering if using this class would be a good solution and support MOST, if not ALL servers?? I mean, I'd rather not use a method that requires the Server to have it installed. I'm looking for a solution to this that will support at least MOST servers without having to install the class... Thanks :) Also, I'd like to support opening tar.gz and/or .tgz files if possible, but I don't think the ZipArchive class supports this, but perhaps a different built-in php class does??

Example: Lets say I have a timer on my page, that executes some javascript every 20 seconds. The execution time for the timer handler is 1 second. Does firefox and ie treat each call of the timer function seperatly, so it never goes over the limit, or is it that firefox/ie adds up the time of each call so after the handler finishes, so after 200 seconds on my site (with the timer called 10 times) an error occurs even though the timer handler itself is only 1 second long?

• What is better, a STL list or a STL Map for 20 entries, considering order of insertion is as importa

  I have the following scenario.The implementation is required for a real time application. 1)I need to store at max 20 entries in a container(STL Map, STL List etc). 2)If a new entry comes and 20 entries are already present i have to overwrite the oldest entry with the new entry. Considering point 2, i feel if the container is full (Max 20 entries) 'list' is the best bet as i can always remove the first entry in the list and add the new one at last (push_back). However, search won't be as efficient. For only 20 entries, does it really make a big difference in terms of searching efficiency if i use a list in place of a map? Also considering the cost of insertion in map i feel i should go for a list? Could you please tell what is a better bet for me ?

Any ideas what i have to put into this line: <ServiceDependency Id="IT iona_services.*" Group="yes" /> Will i need a custom action thingy to retrieve a list of installed services and search through those? Or is there a way in WiX to retrieve a list of services?
