  • How to pre-process CSV data for FasterCSV?

    We're having a significant number of problems creating a bulk upload function for our little app. We're using the FasterCSV gem to upload data to a MySQL database but he Faster CSV is so twitchy and precise in its requirements that it constantly breaks with malformed CSV errors and time out errors. The csv files are generally created by users' pasting text from their web sites or from Microsoft Word docs so it is not reasonable to expect that there will never be odd characters like smart quotes or accents in the data. Also users aren't going to be readily able to identify whether their data is perfect enough for FasterCSV or not. We need to find a way to fix it for them automatically. Is there a good way or a reliable tool for pre-processing CSV data to fix any nits in the data before having the FasterCSV gem process it?

    I need to develop a web interface to collect and validate a range of data from many of my organization's clients. This isn't a single form, but a collection of forms with interdependencies (i.e., field X on form Y is needed if field A was equal to C on form B), and variable length lists (please provide the details for all Xs in your possession). I had a look at the marketing on Microsoft InfoPath and Adobe LiveCycle, but I get the impression that they're principally electronic forms solutions rather than data collection tools. (e.g., If a user has entered their address once, they should never have to see it on a form again). Any suggestions of good tools, applications or domain-specific languages?

    I am trying to create a WebPart for my locally installed Sharepoint Services 3.0 and I've followed various tips and guides to get it all working. However somewhere on the road I must have missed something or this is just not "in all the books". When creating an empty Sharepoint WebPart and just hitting F5 to debug it, I get the following message: Error 1 The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Negotiate'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'. 0 0 And as this article from microsoft suggests I did enable Negotiate, NTLM. But it's still not working, Any suggestions?

  • Does performance even matter anymore? [closed]

    The performance differences between C/C++ and C# are astounding. An ASP.NET page loads in 1/8 the time that a PHP script does haha.... WPF, aka " The Future ", (you know it will be, all the companies are gonna want cool looking desktop apps, don't kid yourself.) And it has huge performance hits just to start up. We've let Microsoft make us as developers lazy! Why do I hate this, it's such a good thing? Are we at a point in time where the majority of computers can handle this kinda crap? I remember when performance used to matter. Anyways, I'm writing a .NET library and ever since I found out LINQ is slower than traditional delegates which is slower than the normal procedural code... well it's a guilty evil I feel for every LINQ query I write, because they are so beautiful. Am I just too much of a performance stickler? Or just too big of a nerd?

    I've got some drivers which are basically LibUSB-Win32 with a new .inf file do describe product/vendor ids and strings which describe my hardware. This works fine for 32 bit windows, but 64 bit versions have problems; namely that Microsoft in their wisdom require all drivers to be digitally signed. So my questions are thus: Is there a version of the LibUSB-Win32 drivers which are already signed I could use? If there aren't already some signed ones I can canibalise, what exactly do I have to do to get my drivers signed. Do I need to get 64 and 32 bit versions signed separately and will this cost more? Is this a free alternative to getting them signed? Are there any other options I should consider besides requiring that my customers boot into test mode each time they start their machines (not an option I'd consider).

  • Debug .Net Framework's source code only shows disassembly in Visual Studio 2010

    Hi! I'm trying to debug .Net Framework's source code using Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I followed the steps described in Raj Kaimal's post but I must be doing something wrong since the only code I'm getting to see is the disassembly code: As you can see in the image, the Go to Source Code and the Load Symbols options are disabled. Nevertheless, symbols are downloaded from Microsoft's server since I can see them inside the local cache directory. The code I'm debugging goes as follow: var wr = WebRequest.Create("http://www.google.com"); Console.WriteLine("Web request created"); var req = wr.GetRequestStream(); Console.Read(); When I hit F11 to step into the first line of code, a window pops us looking for the "WebRequst.cs" file inside "f:\dd\ndp\fx\src\Net\System\Net\WebRequest.cs" which does not exists on my machine.     I am evaluating cloud e-mail solutions based upon: Google Apps for Education Microsoft Live@edu I work for a University and we currently have an institutional portal (based on uPortal). We currently have our local IMAP server and webmail client fully integrated with the portal. We would like to replicate the current portal e-mail experience with the new e-mail services. At present users can see a snapshot of their inbox in the portal and click through into the appropriate place in the webmail client. We expect that we need to solve similar problems when integrating with the cloud based e-mail solutions. We need to solve the single sign-on (SSO) problem. We need to be able to access the inbox messages on the users behalf. (e.g. proxy authentication) Does anybody have an experience or advice on this? Many thanks, Mark

    I will have one streaming-server (W2k8, unknown streaming protocol [rtsp, mss, http]) and half dozen streaming-servers as proxies to save bandwidth. I have read the documentation and installed the modules, but I am unsure how I have to configure the proxy's according to http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/ee126142(en-us,WS.10).aspx - as a proxy or reverse proxy and how I minimize the bandwidth needs between origin server and proxy's. What is the best way to realize my setup? Any short how-tos? How can I announce all players to use the proxy? Route all rtsp/mms/http-requests through my proxy? Announce the proxy with DHCP-releases?   • Deploy custom web service to sharepoint server(2007/2010)?

    According to MSDN, for deploying custom web service, we need to create *wsdl.aspx and *disco.aspx files, and put them with .asmx together under _vti_bin folder (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi). And put the dll under bin folder of the root of sharepoint virtual directory. It works correctly for me. However, i also found that if i put .asmx file under the root virtual directory without creating those *wsdl.aspx and *disco.aspx files. It can work as well and much easier than the above way. So i'm wondering what's the potential issues in this way?

    Some time back in the nineties, Microsoft introduced the Windows Registry. Applications could store settings in different hives. There were hives for application-wide and user-specific scopes, and these were placed in appropriate locations, so that roaming profiles worked correctly. In .NET 2.0 and up, we have this thing called Application Settings. Applications can use them to store settings in XML files, app.exe.config and user.config. These are for application-wide and user-specific scopes, and these are placed in appropriate locations, so that roaming profiles work correctly. Sound familiar? What is the reason that these Application Settings are backed by XML files, instead of simply using the registry? Isn't this exactly what the registry was intended for? The only reason I can think of is that the registry is Windows-specific, and .NET tries to be platform-independent. Was this a (or the) reason, or are there other considerations that I'm overlooking?

    I am using the Rest Singleton WCF Service temple from the Rest Starter Kit. The temples uses sample item as its sample Item. i am attempting to replace that sample ITem with a custom type from web reference in my ASP.Net project .dll.   • Entity Framework connection metadata extraction

    Hi, I am using the EntityFramework POCO adapter and since there are limitations to what microsoft gives access to with regards to the meta data, i am manually extracting the information i need out of the xml. The only problem is i want to get the ssdl, msl, csdl file names to load without having to directly check for the connection string node in app.config. In short where in the ObjectContext/EntityConnection can i get access to these file names? Worst case scenario i need to get the connection name from the EntityConnection object then load this from app.config and parse the string itself and extract the filenames myself. (But i obviously don't want to do that). Thanks

  • Best way to show code snippets in word?

    Does anyone know a good way to display code in Microsoft Word documents? I have tried to include code as regular text which looks awful and gets in the way when editing regular text. I have also tried inserting objects, a WordPad document and Text Box, into the document then putting the code inside those objects. The code looks much better and is easier to avoid while editing the rest of the text. However, these objects can only span one page which makes editing a nightmare when several pages of code need to be added. Lastly, I know that there are much better editors/formats that have no problem handling this but I am stuck working with MS word.

  • How do I create a reusable WF sequential workflow?

    I have two customers that have the same workflow (Create file -transport file - wait for response - send response to internal team); however the implementation of each step is different for each customer. For example, one customer requires a flat file to be sent via SFTP, while the other customer requires an XML file to be sent via FTP. I'd like to create a sequential workflow, using Microsoft Workflow Foundation (WF) and reuse this workflow for multiple vendors. Each action's call to an external module can use the same interface, but a different concrete implementation. However, I'm unfamiliar with WF and I'm not sure how to implement this. Can someone point me to the proper way to use this pattern? Will it make a difference whether I choose WF 3.5 or WF 4.0? Thank you.

  • Launching my deployed my app gets "has stopped working" error. How do I debug this?

    I deployed a VB.Net app and ran it and I get 'AppName has stopped working" "Windows is checking for a solution to the problem" along with a Cancel button under Windows 7. Under XP I am only getting the option to Send the error report to Microsoft or not. There is no apparent way to hook into a debugger. I am not getting any exception data. I have put msgboxes at the very start of my code and they are not hit so it is failing before any of my code is even executing. I have checked all dependencies that I can think of. I developed the app on VS2008 Windows 7 and deploying to Windows 7 and WinXP. I need some advice - how do I debug this? Thanks, Brad

    Hi all, I'm writing a Excel class using Microsoft.Interropt.Excel DLL. I finish all function but I have an error in my Destructor. I Want to save all changes to my file and I want to release all source. I want to all of them in my destructor. But In my destructor, Excel.ApplicationClass, Workbook and Worksheet objects are fill by an Exception which have message "COM object that has been separated from its underlying RCW cannot be used." So I can't save nothing, close nothing because i can't access workbook or worksheet object. Can't I access the class private members in Destructor?

    I'm using JPA Toplink Essential, Netbean6.8, GlassFish v3 In my Entity class I added @Version annotation to enable optimistic locking at transaction commit however after I added the annotation, my query started including VERSION as column thus throwing SQL exception. None of this is mentioned in any tutorial I've seen so far. What could be wrong?   • Tool for parsing smtp logs that finds bounces

    Our web application sends e-mails. We have lots of users, and we get lots of bounces. For example, user changes company and his company e-mail is no longer valid. To find bounces, I parse smtp log file with log parser. Some bounces are great, like 550+#[email protected]. There is [email protected] in bounce. But some do not have e-mail in error message, like 550+No+such+recipient. I have created simple ruby script that parses logs (uses log parser) to find which mail caused something like 550+No+such+recipient. I am just surprised that I could not find a tool that does it. I have found tools like zabbix and splunk for log analysis, but they look like overkill for such simple task. Anybody knows a tool that would parse smtp logs, find bounces and e-mails that cause them? Edit: smtp server is microsoft smtp server.

  • Light weight C++ SAX XML parser

    I know of at least three light weight C++ XML parsers: RapidXML, TinyXML and PugiXML. However, all three use a DOM based interface (ie, they build their own in-memory representation of the XML document and then provide an interface to traverse and manipulate it). For most situations that I have to deal with, I much prefer the SAX interface (where the parser just spits out a stream of events like start-of-tag, and the application code is responsible for doing whatever it wants based on those events). Can anyone recommend a light weight C++ XML library with a SAX interface? Edit: I should also note the Microsoft XmlLite library, which does use a SAX interface. Unfortunately, it's ruled out for me at the moment since as far as I know it's closed source and Windows only (please correct me if I'm wrong on this).
