  • Camera field of view: 3D projections & trigonometry

    - by Thomas O
Okay, here goes. I have a camera at (Xc, Yc, Zc.) The Xc and Yc coordinates are latitude/longitude, and the Zc coordinate is an altitude in metres. I have a point at (Xp, Yp, Zp) and a field of view on the camera (Th1, Th2) - where Th1 is horizontal FOV and Th2 is vertical FOV. Given this information, I'd like to: test if the point is visible (i.e. in the camera's FOV) project the point as the camera would see it I've figured out already that the camera's horizontal view at any given distance is tan(Th1) * distance, but I don't know how to test if the point is visible. Accuracy is not critical. I would prefer a simple solution over a complicated solution, if it works well enough. The computations will be performed by a small microcontroller, which isn't very fast at things like trig functions. P.S. this is not homework, I'm doing this for some game development. It will be integrated with the real world, hence the latitude/longitude/altitude. It involves flying real RC planes through virtual hoops (or chasing virtual targets), so I have to project the positions of these hoops on a display.

I saw this one on this website plus the link on GitHub: http://gtomee.com/2012/07/28/audio-spectrum-visualizer-with-libgdx/ It works when running on desktop project folder but not on Android project folder and the result is this: 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): FATAL EXCEPTION: GLThread 16845 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): com.badlogic.gdx.utils.GdxRuntimeException: Error copying source file: soundtrack 1 bioman.mp3 (Internal) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): To destination: tmp/audio-spectrum.mp3 (External) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.copyFile(FileHandle.java:625) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.copyTo(FileHandle.java:534) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.bodapps.rhythm.Drop.create(Drop.java:393) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.backends.android.AndroidGraphics.onSurfaceChanged(AndroidGraphics.java:292) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at android.opengl.GLSurfaceView$GLThread.guardedRun(GLSurfaceView.java:1505) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at android.opengl.GLSurfaceView$GLThread.run(GLSurfaceView.java:1240) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): Caused by: com.badlogic.gdx.utils.GdxRuntimeException: Error stream writing to file: tmp/audio-spectrum.mp3 (External) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.write(FileHandle.java:313) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.copyFile(FileHandle.java:623) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): ... 5 more 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): Caused by: com.badlogic.gdx.utils.GdxRuntimeException: Error writing file: tmp/audio-spectrum.mp3 (External) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.write(FileHandle.java:293) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.write(FileHandle.java:305) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): ... 6 more 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /storage/sdcard0/tmp/audio-spectrum.mp3: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at libcore.io.IoBridge.open(IoBridge.java:416) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.java:88) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at com.badlogic.gdx.files.FileHandle.write(FileHandle.java:289) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): ... 7 more 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): Caused by: libcore.io.ErrnoException: open failed: EACCES (Permission denied) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at libcore.io.Posix.open(Native Method) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at libcore.io.BlockGuardOs.open(BlockGuardOs.java:110) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): at libcore.io.IoBridge.open(IoBridge.java:400) 10-10 13:57:45.320: E/AndroidRuntime(9421): ... 9 more I'm not sure if I come this to the right place for help and suggestions.

  • Why was Android's ContentProvider created?

    - by satur9nine
The title sums up my question, but to elaborate basically what I want to understand is why the Android designers want apps that need to work with shared data to use a Content Provider rather than just accessing the SQLite database directly? The only reason I can think of is security because certain files can by accessed only be certain processes and in that way the Content Provider is the gatekeeper that ensures each app has the proper privileges before allowing read and/or write access to the database file. Is that the primary reason why ContentProvider was created?

  • Entering and retrieving data from SQLite for an android List View

    - by Infiniti Fizz
Hi all, I started learning android development a few weeks ago and have gone through the developer.android.com tutorials etc. But now I have a problem. I'm trying to create an app which tracks the usage of each installed app. Therefore I'm pulling the names of all installed apps using the PackageManager and then trying to put them into an SQLite database table. I am using the Notepad Tutorial SQLite implementation but I'm running into some problems that I have tried for days to solve. I have 2 classes, the DBHelper class and the actual ListActivity class. For some reason the app force closes when I try and run my fillDatabase() function which gets all the app names from the PackageManager and tries to put them into the database: private void fillDatabase() { PackageManager manager = this.getPackageManager(); List<ApplicationInfo> appList = manager.getInstalledApplications(0); for(int i = 0; i < appList.size(); i++) { mDbHelper.addApp(manager.getApplicationLabel(appList.get(i)).toString(), 0); } } addApp() is a function defined in my AppsDbHelper class and looks as follows: public long createApp(String name, int usage) { ContentValues initialValues = new ContentValues(); initialValues.put(KEY_NAME, name); initialValues.put(KEY_USAGE, usage); return mDb.insert(DATABASE_TABLE, null, initialValues); } The database create is defined as follows: private static final String DATABASE_CREATE = "create table notes (_id integer primary key autoincrement, " + "title text not null, usage integer not null);"; I have commented out all statements that follow fillDatabase(); in the onCreate() method of the ListActivity and so know that it is definetely the problem but I don't know why. I am taking the appName and putting it into the KEY_NAME field of the row and putting 0 into the KEY_USAGE field of the row (because initially, my app will default the usage of each app to 0 (not used yet)). If my addApp() function doesn't take the usage and just puts KEY_NAME into the ContentValues and into the database, it seems to work fine, but I want a column for usage. Any ideas why it is not working? Have I overlooked something? Thanks for your time, InfinitiFizz

  • How can I detect the Android emulator?

    - by Joe Ludwig
I would like to have my code run slightly differently when running on the emulator than when running on a device. (For example, using 10.0.2.2 instead of a public URL to run against a development server automatically.) What is the best way to detect when an Android application is running in the emulator?

  • Make Pong on android using OpenGL-ES

    - by brainydexter
I am trying to make a simple pong game using opengl-es. I have checked out some of the tutorials/samples, but most of them are pre-dated to 2009. I am familiar with game programming, and consider pong to be the hello-world! Right now, I intend to make it using their supplied SDK (2.3), but eventually I want to make it in NDK, so I can port my other work to android. Would anyone have a good reference for a starting point ? Thanks

  • Project Idea - Android

    - by Darren Young
Hi, I am trying to come up with some project ideas for my final year at University, and I think that I have one that would offer be a (massive) challenge, and something I could potentially make money from. I just want to check something. Is it possible(from a photograph), to be able to determine somebodys face and the individual parts of that face - eyes, ears, nose, etc? This will probably be via Android. Thanks.

  • Android Touch Event Collision Detection

    - by chrissb
I'm relatively new to both Java and Android, so hopefully the problem I'm having is stemming from something pretty minor that I've overlooked. I've got a (very early stage) game that I've started working on, for Android using Java. At this stage, when the user touches the screen, if they touched a point at which there is an enemy, the enemies health is decreased and they become immobile (for the current implementation at least). The issue that I'm having is that the touch detection doesn't always seem to work. I've got a testing sprite set up that goes to the eventX and eventY coordinates of the touch down event, and it always seems to collide with the enemy object. Yet, the enemy doesn't always register as being hit, and sometimes a hit is registered when the sprite indicates the touch coordinates were outside of the enemies bounding box. I realise that this probably doesn't mean much without any code, so here's what I've got so far. Be gentle, as this is literally my first attempt at something more than basic movement etc. First off, the MainGamePanel class registers the touch event, and informs the levelmanager class (which is what I set up to monitor/handle enemies) public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent event) { if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN){ levelManager.handleActionDown((int)event.getX(), (int)event.getY()); targetX=event.getX(); targetY=event.getY(); } if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE) { //the gestures } if (event.getAction() == MotionEvent.ACTION_UP) { //touch was released } return true; } From there, in the levelmanager class the touch event is passed on to all of the enemies within a list array: public static void handleActionDown(int eventX,int eventY){ hit=false; for (enemy1 en : enemy1array){ en.handleActionDown(eventX, eventY); } } The rest of the collision code is handled within the enemies handleActionDown function: public void handleActionDown(int eventX, int eventY) { if(eventX>this.x-enemy1bitmap.getWidth() && eventX<this.x+enemy1bitmap.getWidth() && eventY>this.y-enemy1bitmap.getHeight() && eventY<this.x+enemy1bitmap.getHeight()){ takeDamage(1); levelmanager.setHit(); } } I should probably be using getWidth()/2 and getHeight()/2 for it to be more accurate, but I expanded the area to test this - although I've noticed no improvement. At this stage, the games detection over whether or not the enemy is hit is spotty at best. Generally it takes two or three attempts before a collision is successfully registered, even though the sprite that is being used for testing and set to the eventX and eventY coordinates always indicates that the collision should have worked. Hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction here, and if more information is needed, ask away! Cheers, -Chris

  • Roll Your Own Wi-Fi Spy Camera

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
This fun DIY project allows you to roll your own Wi-Fi based spy camera and then, when it’s time for a new project, pull apart the modular design and build something new. This build combines an Arduino board, an Adafruit Data Logging Shield, an a serial-based camera (among a handful of small parts and open-source code) into a spy camera that remotely delivers the photos via Wi-Fi. The nice thing about this project is that when you can easily deconstruct the build to reuse the parts in a new project (the number of things you can do with an Arduino is near limitless). Hi, I have a Listview in my application. Listview rows are clickable. I have introduced a seek bar in each row of a Listview. Despite settings android:clickable="false" for Seekbar in layout xml, I am still able to click on it and move seek bar as desired. I don't want Seekbar to be clickbale but I do want Listview row to clickable. Any pointers will be appreciated.

  • I'm porting my app from iOS to Android: what do I need to know?

    - by kubi
What pitfalls should I avoid? What Java language paradigms do Objective-C developers consistently misunderstand? I learned to program in Java, but I have worked in nothing but Objective-C for years now. How are the design patterns different between Android and iOS? If you've made the transition yourself, what parts of Android confused you or took you longer to learn than it should have? Is Eclipse the best OS X IDE for Android? For the record, my app is very strongly tied to UIKit and Foundation, so the word "porting" may be a misnomer; I'll actually be completely rewriting it for Android. No code reuse. Also, I'm doing this to learn Android, so I'd rather fail at the port and learn Android than take a shortcut.

  • Playback of opus-codec on Android

    - by qdot
I'm looking for a way to integrate opus-codec (the decoder part) with my Android application. Do you know of any implementations that have done so? We are currently using ogg-vorbis for spoken prompts, considering going with either speex (deprecated, but with few documented attempts) or opus (currently no documented attempts). If we would have to go the NDK route, do you think it should provide us with a application size improvement? OggVorbis is supported by the platform, neither speex nor opus are.

  • Inserting contact with android and querying the result uri returns no entries

    - by th0m4d
Im developing an application which is dealing with the android contacts API. I implemented methods to insert, update and query contacts. So far everything worked (writing and reading contacts). At one point in my project Im experiencing a strange behaviour. I insert a contact using batch mode. I receive the URI to the RawContact. I do this in a background thread. // use batchmode for contact insertion ArrayList ops = new ArrayList(); int rawContactInsertIndex = ops.size(); // create rawContact ops.add(ContentProviderOperation.newInsert(RawContacts.CONTENT_URI) .withValue(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE, ConstantsContract.ACCOUNT_TYPE) .withValue(RawContacts.ACCOUNT_NAME, accountName).build()); ops.add(createInsertOperation().withValueBackReference(Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID, rawContactInsertIndex) .withValue(Data.MIMETYPE, StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE) .withValue(StructuredName.DISPLAY_NAME, displayName).withValue(StructuredName.GIVEN_NAME, firstName) .withValue(StructuredName.FAMILY_NAME, lastName).build()); //other data values... ContentProviderResult[] results = context.getContentResolver().applyBatch(ContactsContract.AUTHORITY, ops); if (results.length 0) { result = results[0]; } Then i request and store the lookup uri RawContacts.getContactLookupUri(this.getContentResolver(), myContantRawContactUri); I am able to query the contact using the rawContactUri directly after inserting it (in the same thread). The lookup uri returns null. Uri rawContactUri = appUser.getRawContactUri(ctx); if (rawContactUri == null) { return null; } String lastPathSegment = rawContactUri.getLastPathSegment(); long rawContactId = Long.decode(lastPathSegment); if (rawContactUri != null) { contact = readContactWithID(rawContactId, ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID); In a different place in the project I want to query the contact i inserted by the stored lookup uri or raw contact uri. Both return no rows from the content provider. I tried it in the main thread and in another background thread. ctx.getContentResolver().query(ContactsContract.Data.CONTENT_URI, null, ContactsContract.Data.RAW_CONTACT_ID + " = ? AND " + ContactsContract.Data.MIMETYPE + " = ?", new String[] { contactID + "", ContactsContract.CommonDataKinds.StructuredName.CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE }, null); My first thought was that it could be related to the context.getContentResolver(). But the android documentation states, that the ContentResolver objects scope is the application's package, so you have on ContentResolver for the whole app. Am I right? What am I doing wrong? Why does the same rawContactUri return the contact at one place and does not on another place? And why do I get a lookup uri from a raw contact, which is not working at all?

  • Set iPhone Style Location Based Alerts On Your Android Device With Google Now

    - by Gopinath
Location based alerts of iPhone are very useful. You can set an alert to popup as soon as you reach a specific location like “Pickup milk and eggs” when I’m near a grocery store. This feature was missing in Android for a long time, but last week at Google I/O conference Google released an update to Google Now which supports location based alerts. To setup a location based alert 1. Launch Google Now 2. Type or say add reminder 3. By default it shows time based alert interface, switch it location based by touching Location icon 4. Set reminder text, choose a location and touch Set reminder 5. Your alert is set now and as soon as you are close by the specified location, you’ll see an alert on your device. This is a nice feature and I’m using it quite often for the past couple of days.  There are couple of things missing from the current version of Google Now location based alerts– recurring alerts and ability to set alerts on leaving a specific location. It is not possible to recur location based alerts. You will be alerted only once as soon as you reach the location and it is not possible to repeat the alert next time you visit the location. Lets say you want to be reminded to say hi to friend’s parents whenever you are travelling close by their home. It does not work. The second missing feature is something basic and some how Google did not incorporate in their first iteration. Lets say you are at office now and you want to set up alert to pickup flowers when you leave office. Sounds like a simple use case for location based alerts right? But there is no way to set this type of alerts. Google Now alerts you as soon as you reach a location, but not when you leave a location. Do you have an Android that supports Google Now? If so what are your thoughts on location based alerts?

I don't want an answer of "go google it" or "en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_open_source_Android_applications" it gets really annoying on posts when people just give lazy answers.
