• Why can't I see any data in the Google App Engine *Development* Console?

  I run my google app engine application in one of two ways... Directly by using the application from http://localhost:8080 Or execute unit tests from http://localhost:8080/test When I create entities by using the application directly, the data is visible in the Development Console (dataStore view). However, when I execute the unit tests... even if they succeed and I can put() and get() data, the data does not show in the dataStore view. Any idea why I can't see my data? Even though it is there? Notes: I use GAEUnit for unit tests. the data stored mostly consists of StringProperties(). I use Python and run Django on top of the GAE, don't know if that matters.

• Google App Engine - What causes cold start latency time to be high, even though my CPU usage is rela

  I've optimized my code to use only lightweight libraries. I'm even using the low level datastore rather than JDO. And my cold start CPU usage has dropped from about 5 seconds to about 1.5 seconds. However, the time it takes to respond is often about 4.5 seconds, though it varies a lot. Here are some lines from my logs: 03-19 09:16PM 57.368 /donothing 200 4506ms 1516cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 03-19 09:22PM 54.884 /donothing 200 4452ms 1477cpu_ms 0kb Mozilla/5.0 What is the app engine doing for those extra 3 seconds that apparently isn't using any CPU?

• Handling ID's with db4o and ASP.NET MVC2

  So, i'm looking at the TekPub sample for ASP.NET MVC2 (http://mvcstarter.codeplex.com/) using DB4o and there are a bunch of templates to create controllers etc, the generated code looks like: public ActionResult Details(int id) { var item = _session.Single<Account>(x=>x.ID == id); return View(item); } Now, my understanding is that using DB4o or a simliar object database that ID's are not required, so how/what exactly do I pass to enable this kind of templated code to function? UPDATE: Both answers were useful, I have modifed the templates to use GUID as the ID. I will add any relevant code/notes here once I see how it works out.

• iPhone: App crashes when I click on a cell in table view.

  Hi there, Compiling my application works—everything is fine. The only errors I get are by deprecated functions (setText). The only problem is now, is that when I tap on a cell in my table, the app crashes, even though it's meant to push to the next view in the stack. Any solutions are appreciated, if you need any code, just ask. Also, how can I only make sure that one cell goes to only one view? For example: When I tap on CSS, it takes me to a new table with different levels of CSS. WHen I tap on an item in that new view, it comes up with an article on what I just selected. Regards, Jack

• Bulk get of child entities on Google app engine?

  On Google App Engine in Python, I have a Visit entity that has a parent of Patient. A Patient may have multiple visits. I need to set the most_recent_visit (and some auxiliary visit data) somewhere for later querying, probably in another child entity that Brett Slatkin might call a "relationship index entity." I wish to do so in a bulk style as follows: 1. get 100 Patient keys 2. get all Visits that have any of the Patients from 1 as an ancestor 3. go through the Visits and get the latest for each Patient Is there any way to perform step 2 in a bulk get? I know there is a way to bulk get entities from a list of keys, and there is a way to match a single entity by its ancestor.

  I'm using jQuery draggable and droppable. I'm cloning the draggable widget on drop event of droppable. I want to fetch the ID of the cloned element which will be sent to the the application with the AJAX request. • Minimum OS version number, iPhone app

  Hi all I've built an iPhone app which is live in the app-store. When originally submitting the app it showed up in App Store as requiring iPhone OS 3.1.3. When later updating the app I made sure my settings in Xcode for the target for the app store build had the Base SDK version set to 3.1.3 and the Deployment Target version set to 3.0, however it still shows up in app store as requiring 3.1.3. From what I've understood the Deployment Target version is the one setting the requirement in app store? Or is there any information concerning this that I should have updated in iTunes Connect when submitting the updated app? Thanks, Michael

I'm new to this so little unsure ?   The latency for a datastore put is about 150ms (http://code.google.com/status/appengine/detail/datastore/2010/03/11#ae-trust-detail-datastore-put-latency). About how much CPUTime is used by a single datastore put with data size of 100 bytes, into an entity that has only 2 columns, and no indexes? I plan to do some testing with this later today to figure it out, but if anyone already knows that would help me out :). Also, does anyone know about how much extra overhead in CPUTime doing this datastore put through the task queue would be? • Setting id to a panel control in gridview

  I have a panel control in gridview's template. I need to hide/unhide panel in javascript function, for that i need to pass panel's id to the javascript. The problem is that all panels have the same id in gridview, so I need to set unique id to each panel. I tried to do: <asp:Panel id= "Panel_<%# Eval("ID")%>" and some other variations but always get an error. The panel contains some other controls, I need it to be server side because I need to set at code-behind (after checking if user is authenticated) What can I do? p.s. It doesn't have to be Panel, any other control that I can find with Findcontrol and can hold other controls.

  What if a user hits my site with http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit rather than http://www.mysite.com/Quote/Edit/1000 In other words, they do not specify a value for {id}. If they do not, I want to display a nice "Not Found" page, since they did not give an ID. I currentl handle this by accepting a nullable int as the parameter in the Controller Action and it works fine. However, I'm curious if there a more standard MVC framework way of handling this, rather than the code I presently use (see below). Is a smoother way to handle this, or is this pretty mush the right way to do it?   Hello I can't think of a way to test this and was hoping someone here knew the answer... I'm storing some request-specific data in os.environ, and was wondering if that data was going to leak to other requests. Does anyone know? Yes I realize that it's normal to use request.environ for this, and usually I do, but I want to store the currently authorized user ID (I'm using custom auth, not GAE auth) inside os.environ so that the models know the currently logged in user (remember, they don't have access to request.environ) without me having to pass the request object to just about every single model method. any help would be greatly appreciated Ian

• Best Practice for Exporting an App's Data to XML via PHP/MySQL?

I'm aware that I can write an XML file semi-manually by doing something like this: http://www.kirupa.com/web/mysql_xml_php.htm But, I thought I'd ask if this is the best practice? Or is there some framework I can use to do this more easily/quickly? Maybe there isn't - it won't be too hard to do it the above way.   I am confused with the following sentence(with bold) from Microsoft about Session IDs. It seems to say the obvious, if we reuse a valid Session ID then we do not need to create a new Session ID. Am i missing something? What is reusing in this context? Using the Session ID as an identifier in database or etc is reusing or what? Therefore, you can reuse session IDs for several reasons. I created the App IDs for my first two applications like this: XXXXXXXXXX.me.cbg.FirstApp YYYYYYYYYY.me.cbg.SecondApp but then Apple introduced the App ID wizard, which I used to create the App ID and provisioning profiles for my third application: ZZZZZZZZZZ.* So my question is: What is the "proper" way of creating App IDs for three completely independent apps? Should I use the XXXXXXXXXX.* format or XXXXXXXXXX.me.cbg.*? Should I create three different App IDs, or just one wildcard ID?

• Creating a folder inside Mac OS App

  I want a an app that is "self-contained" (I don't know if i use the right word. "putting the app into trash bin will remove everything" is what I meant). But the app requires some resources to run. I usually put those resources into a folder. I want to move those resources into the App folder ( package contents). Can I do that? Is it a good practice to do that? When I test the app directly running from Xcode, the App runs fine. But if i run it from finder, the app will say fails to create resources folder because permission denied. I checked the app's folder permission - User(me) has read/write access. I am wondering what is causing this different behavior. The last option is to use Application Support folder, but I don't want to leave trails when user deletes the app. Can someone help me out here?

  I'm using Django with Google's App Engine. I want to send information to the server with percent encoded slashes. A request like http:/localhost/turtle/waxy%2Fsmooth that would match against a URL like r'^/turtle/(?P<type>([A-Za-z]|%2F)+)$'. The request gets to the server intact, but sometime before it is compared against the regex the %2F is converted into a forward slash. What can I do to stop the %2Fs from being converted into forward slashes? Thanks!
