• HTTP not working EC2 instance with own domain name

  I have this problem I've already posted on the Amazon AWS forum. Unfortunately I haven't got a clear answer I and I was hoping you guys could help. Here's the link: http://developer.amazonwebservices.com/connect/thread.jspa?messageID=198238#198207 Basically I don't know why after associating an Elastic IP address and mapping it to one of my domains, FTP an ping work fine, but HTTP does a 302 redirect to the Amazon AWS hostname I had before associating the Elastic IP address. Here's the question from the AWS forum: I have an EC2 instance with HTTP and FTP installed. They both worked. Then I associated an Elastic IP address to that instance. Then I mapped that IP address to a name which is a subdomain of a domain I own. I think it's an A name (I didn't do the mapping personally). Now FTP works and HTTP doesn't. The AWS host name before the Elastic IP association: ec2-184-73-27-8.compute-1.amazonaws.com The AWS IP address and host name after the association: 174.129.7.254 and ec2-174-129-7-254.compute-1.amazonaws.com The domain which is mapped to 174.129.7.254 using an A record is: demo.flashxml.net FTP works means that I can connect to both 174.129.7.254, ec2-174-129-7-254.compute-1.amazonaws.com and demo.flashxml.net. HTTP doesn't work means that a HTTP request to 174.129.7.254, ec2-174-129-7-254.compute-1.amazonaws.com or demo.flashxml.net returns a 302 redirect to ec2-184-73-27-8.compute-1.amazonaws.com Here is my VirtualHost file: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /home/ec2-user/public_html/wordpress ServerName demo.flashxml.net ErrorLog logs/ec2-user-error_log <Directory /home/ec2-user/public_html/wordpress> AllowOverride FileInfo Order Deny,Allow Allow from All </Directory> </VirtualHost> I finally figured out what was wrong. It's the fact that I installed Wordpress on the server using the hostname provided by Amazon. After associating the Elastic IP and updating the DNS records, the server was reachable - FTP working was the proof of that. The 302 redirect when accessing via HTTP was caused by Wordpress's hostname settings. So, what I've learned from all this was that I should setup my IP and DNS first and only after that install Wordpress or any other web app(s).

Companies who purchased a VG.net license after October 1, 2013, are eligible for a free upgrade. We will be sending you an email. There is one cosmetic problem which wasted our time, as we could not find a work around. It occurs when your display is set to a high DPI. You can see the problem in the image of the toolbox below, which uses a DPI of 125%, on Windows 7: The ToolboxItem class accepts only Bitmaps with a size of 16x16. We tried many sizes and many bitmap formats. As you can see, this tiny Bitmap is then scaled by the toolbox, and the scaling algorithm adds artifacts. • Playing with http page cycle using JustMock

  In this post , I will cover a test code that will mock the various elements needed to complete a HTTP page request and  assert the expected page cycle steps. To begin, i have a simple enumeration that has my predefined page steps: public enum PageStep {     PreInit,     Load,     PreRender,     UnLoad } Once doing so, i  first created the page object [not mocking]. Page page = new Page(); Here, our target is to fire up the page process through ProcessRequest call, now if we take a look inside the method with reflector.net,  the call trace will go like : ProcessRequest –> ProcessRequestWithNoAssert –> SetInstrinsics –> Finallly ProcessRequest. Inside SetInstrinsics ,  it requires calls from HttpRequest, HttpResponse and HttpBrowserCababilities. With this clue at hand, we can easily know the classes / calls  we need to mock in order to get through the expected call. Accordingly, for  HttpBrowserCapabilities our required test code will look like: Mock.Arrange(() => browser.PreferredRenderingMime).Returns("text/html"); Mock.Arrange(() => browser.PreferredResponseEncoding).Returns("UTF-8"); Mock.Arrange(() => browser.PreferredRequestEncoding).Returns("UTF-8"); Now, HttpBrowserCapabilities is get though [Instance]HttpRequest.Browser. • Exposing API through a DLL

  I have a C++ application; I would like to expose an API from that application allowing me to control the C++ app from a VB6 app. I want to expose the API through a DLL file. Is this a viable option (is it possible) ? I haven’t been able to find any literature on using DLLs in this way. In fact from what I have read it seems like this is not possible because DLLs create their own new instance for every application they are linked in. If you have meet theses requirements in an application you built or if your knowledgeable on the subject, please give me a push in the right direction.

  Being a hobbyist Java developer, I quickly took on with OO programming and understood its advantages over procedural code from C, that I did in college. But I couldn't grasp VB event based code (weird, right?). Bottom-line is OOP came natural to me. Curently I work in a small development firm developing C# applications. My peers here are a bit attached to VB style programming. Most of the C# code written is VB6 event handling code in C#'s skin. I tried explaining to them OOP with its advantages but it wasn't clear to them, maybe because I have never been much of a VB programmer. So can anybody provide any resources: books, web articles on how to migrate from VB style to OO style programming ?

• Is it possible for a web-server to send more files than requested for, and have the browser accept them?

  I've created a basic web server for a school project, and it serves static content without a problem. I thought of having the server parse all htm/html files for links to .js/.css/image files, and send these files to the client without these files being requested by the client later. eg. The browser requests: index.htm The server responds with intex.htm and image.jpg I modified the server to send two distinct http responses for a "GET /index.html HTTP1.1" (one for the html page and one for the image), but the browser ended up requesting the image when it was good and ready. Is there any way to bypass this? (use a multipart response, perhaps) Will these files be accepted by most browsers, or will they be rejected for security reasons?

• How to I prevent decimal truncation in Word 2003 when a document is auto populated via a Web Service

  I have a document template which is being auto populated via an external web service. The incoming data exists as a currency (e.g. 3.10) but when it is passed into the Word Document template the variable is truncated to remove any trailing 0's. I need the number to always appear with 2 decimals, even if they are both 0's. This is with the 2003 version of Word, I have not tested with other versions since all of our document templates need to be generated using that version of Word. I feel like this can be done with a Macro or a VB script but I have a very small amount of time & no experience with these tools - Any help is greatly appreciated!

• How mature is FreeBASIC?

  A friend of mine is considering using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment. They currently use GWBasic, and they want to make a soft transition towards more modern languages. I am just worried that there might be undetected bugs in the software. I see that their version number is 0.22.0, which indicates, that it is not quite mature yet. I also read this discussion, without being able to conclude. Also on their Sourceforge pages there is no indication of whether it is Alpha or Beta (which anyways is not a very good indicator). Does anyone have own experience about the maturity, ideas on how to judge the maturity, or know of companies using FreeBASIC in a critical production environment?

  I've read a lot about how GoTo was considered harmful and removed for other control structures that were more intuitive. Does anyone have a good example / sample of goto spaghetti code? Preferrably, the sample code should be difficult to follow, but realtively easy when rewritten into more conventional control structures. I know I could try to write you some of my own, but I've never really used goto and don't think I could due justice to the headaches its abuse can lead to. I want this for didactic purposes to train junior developers on what to avoid. Mainly, to point to illustrate how OOP is taking the same idea to next logical consequence. EDIT: by good example I mean code that is terrible to read and abuses it, rather than code that uses goto for reasonable optimization

I'm thinking about creating a form that I call every time the users needs to search for something. This should work like these: Click on the field to complete, let's say name of a buyer Open new form, search for the client and click on it Return the name of the buyer to the previous form (probably the header of the order) So, I would need to pass to the new form something that identify the type of search I have to do (so what access table to open) and return some values.   I have a fairly old Outlook add-in written in VB6. This adds a toolbar on the Outlook ribbon with buttons for various bits of functionality which interact with emails in the inbox, the contact list and calendar. I have been asked if it would be possible to trigger some of the functions of this add-in when a user hits "Send" on an email. Does anyone know if it is possible to hook a VB6 program into the send event, or if it would be possible to write a new plugin, using .Net as an example, which could hook into the send event and trigger the functionality on the old plug in?? • Problem in Apache CXF (Simple Frontend): 'Already connected'

  I am using apache CXF for the first time. I am trying to establish a connection based on the CXF simple front end (Configuration notes) technology. I can't really see what I've done wrong, but I am getting a weird error (see below). I have also posted this question to [email protected], but I haven't received a response yet. Perhaps someone here can help. The service bean that is wrapped here is a Spring / JPA service that does not know anything about the web, I want to use simple frontend to publish it as a web service without having to annotate it with Jax-ws etc. (This works in theory). I have searched the web for similar problems, but all I found was a bug using rest that has already been fixed. Maybe there are some permissions problems. Notes: /var/repos/ is owned by www-data and contains folders bit git bare repos. All this works perfectly using ssh. If I go with my browser to http://mydevserver/git/myproject/info/refs it is answered by git-http-backend asking me to send a command. /var/run/fcgiwrap.socket has 777 permissions.

• DTaskManager Runtime '5' error?

  I really enjoy using DTaskManager as an alternative to Windows TaskManager, but recently I've been getting Runtime Error '5' messages. It looks like DTaskManager was programmed in Visual Basic 6, but it is quite powerful. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 so I suspect that the error might be coming from a Visual Basic runtime problem. I'm not sure which registry keys to edit to fix the Runtime Error '5' message.
