• View Your Google Calendar in Outlook 2010

  Google Calendar is a great way to share appointments, and synchronize your schedule with others. Here we show you how to view your Google Calendar in Outlook 2010 too. Google Calendar Log into the Google Calendar and under My Calendars click on Settings. Now click on the calendar you want to view in Outlook. Scroll down the page and click on the ICAL button from the Private Address section, or Calendar Address if it’s a public calendar…then copy the address to your clipboard. Outlook 2010 Open up your Outlook calendar, click the Home tab on the Ribbon, and under Manage Calendars click on Open Calendar \ From Internet… Now enter the link location into the New Internet Calendar field then click OK. Click Yes to the dialog box that comes up verifying you want to subscribe to it.   If you want more subscription options click on the Advanced button. Here you can name the folder, type in a description, and choose if you want to download attachments. That is all there is to it! Now you will be able to view your Google Calendar in Outlook 2010. You’ll also be able to view your local computer and the Google Calendar side by side… Keep in mind that this only gives you the ability to view the Google Calendar…it’s read-only. Any changes you make on the Google Calendar site will show up when you do a send/receive. • Lesser Known NHibernate Session Methods

  The NHibernate ISession, the core of NHibernate usage, has some methods which are quite misunderstood and underused, to name a few, Merge, Persist, Replicate and SaveOrUpdateCopy. Their purpose is: Merge: copies properties from a transient entity to an eventually loaded entity with the same id in the first level cache; if there is no loaded entity with the same id, one will be loaded and placed in the first level cache first; if using version, the transient entity must have the same version as in the database; Persist: similar to Save or SaveOrUpdate, attaches a maybe new entity to the session, but does not generate an INSERT or UPDATE immediately and thus the entity does not get a database-generated id, it will only get it at flush time; Replicate: copies an instance from one session to another session, perhaps from a different session factory; SaveOrUpdateCopy: attaches a transient entity to the session and tries to save it. Here are some samples of its use. • SQL SERVER – Backup SQL databases to Box or SkyDrive

  To ensure your SQL Server or Azure databases remain safe, you should backup your databases periodically. And it is important to store the backups in a reliable location. Microsoft SkyDrive currently offers 7GB free, Box offers 5GB free – both are reliable and it is simple to send your backups there. SQLBackupAndFTP in it’s latest version 9 added the option to backup to SkyDrive and Box ( in addition to local/network folder, NAS drive, FTP, Dropbox, Google Drive and Amazon S3). Just select the databases that you’d like to backup and select to store the backups in SkyDrive or Box. Below I will show you how to do it in details Select databases to backup First connect to your SQL Server or Azure Sql Database. Then select the databases you’d like to backup. Connect to SkyDrive or Box cloud If you have a free version of SQLBackupAndFTP Box destination is included, but SkyDrive destination will be disabled as it is available in the Standard version or above. Click “Try now” to get 30 days trial on all options On the “SkyDrive Settings” form you’ll need to authorize SQLBackupAndFTP to access your SkyDrive. Click “Authorize…” to open SkyDrive authorization page in your browser, sign in your to SkyDrive account and click at “Allow” . On the next page you will see the field with authorization code. Copy it to the clipboard. Box operation is just the same. After that return to SQLBackupAndFTP, paste the authorization code and click “OK” . After you are authorized, you can enter the path to a backup folder. SQLBackupAndFTP will create the folder if it does not exist. That’s all what has to be done to backup to SkyDrive or Box cloud.  You can now click on “Run Now” button to test this job. Conclusion Whatever is your preference for storing SQL backups, it is easy with SQLBackupAndFTP. • Unconvert Text File from Binary Format

  I've got a rather large CSV file (~700MB) which I know to consist of lines of 27-character alpha-numeric hashes; no commas or anything fancy. Somehow, during its migration from Windows to Linux (via winSCP and then a few regular SCPs), it has converted into some kind of binary format I am unfamiliar with. If I open the file in vi, everything appears fine, and it says [converted] at the bottom, although I know it's not a line endings issue (and dos2unix doesn't help). If I 'head' the file, it looks proper except for a "ÿþ" at the beginning of the first line. If I open up the file in nano, however, I see the "ÿþ" at the start and then "^@" before every character (even newlines and EoF). If I try to re-save or copy the file (say via: head file.csv short.txt), this special encoding is preserved. I copied the first ten lines out of vi (which displays it properly) into my Windows clipboard via my SSH client, then pasted it into a new text file, test.txt. This file is visually identical when opened in vi (and similar through 'head', minus the "ÿþ"), although it's roughly half of the filesize. Additionally, file test.txt test.txt: ASCII text file short.txt short.txt: I have no idea what format this once-text file got converted to (it's notoriously hard to search the internet for symbols), but surely there must be some way to convert it back. Any ideas?

• How can I set Vim to obey accents of my spoken language?

  When pressing w or e in sentences with accents (written in my native language), such as the first one (marked **) here: **Éj-mélybol fölzengo** - csing-ling-ling - száncsengo. Száncsengo - csing-ling-ling - tél csendjén halkan ring. [1] the characters o, ö, among others [2], make my gVim think they are word-ends so it stops on them (in Normal mode). gVim stops on the positions marked with _ where it shouldn't: Éj-mélyb_ol f_ölzeng_o. I would like to set gVim so it properly handle words even when containing accents and other local characters. But where do I set this? I use it on Win32, vim v 7.3.46. [1] - excerpt of a poem by Weöres Sándor [2] - "others", not mentioned here :) like í, u are also a problem. • Synergy, OSX client, Windows 7 server - No mouse on client

  I have the following Synergy setup: +------------++------------++------------++------------+ | Mac || Win 7 || Ubuntu 1 || Ubuntu 2 | |c ||s ||c ||c | +------------++------------++------------++------------+ Mac: OS/X Tiger 10.4.11 (G3) Win 7: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Ubuntu 1 & Ubuntu 2: Desktop 10.10 Now, everything works nicely between the Win7 server and the two Ubuntu machines. What doesn't work is the Mac. I am running the very latest Synergy (1.4.2, downloaded last night). As far as the Mac is concerned everything should be working fine: Synergy 1.4.2 Client on Darwin 8.11.0 Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.0: Wed Oct 10 18:26:00 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.24.17~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh Unable to connect to pasteboard. I have tried running ktrace on synergyc and examining the dump, and the only clue I found was that it was trying to interact with the AccessibilityAPI which was disabled at first. Enabling Accessibility has had no effect whatsoever (it has only stopped the failure to open /var/db/.AccessibilityAPIEnabled in the ktrace dump) Anyone managed to get this to work in OS/X Tiger yet? I used to run the server on OS/X and have the windows / unix machines as clients, but as my Windows is now a laptop I'd like that to be the server.

• How can I run Gnome or KDE locally in Cygwin?

  Apparently it is possible to do this using cygwin ports, as can be seen in screenshots. I followed this how-to to get apt-cygports set up, and I used it to install gnome-session. This how-to supposedly gives the commands needed to run Gnome or KDE, but whenever I try to run Gnome, a blank X-window pops up and then quickly disappears. • Command line solution for removing parts from a binary file?

  I have a binary file and I would like to remove parts from. By removing I mean deleting those parts and thus making the file's size smaller. The parts would be between two ASCII strings. So, for example the file would look like this ........ start ABCD end ..... start EFGH end ..... start IJKL end ........... So in this file, I would like to search for strings "start" and "end" and remove the parts between them. The way I think I can do it is to lookup all the locations for "start" and "end" calculate ranges from that delete those parts Now I am using some GUI based Hex editor and I use the "Search All", "Select Range" and "Delete" commands, but I am sure it would be possible to solve it using some powerful command line hex/text editors. Do you know any solution for this problem which doesn't require using a GUI for looking up, copy & paste on clipboard, select range and delete commands but is just a few lines of command line? I am interested ini both Linux shell scripts or using some command line hex editors under Windows, or even Python scrips are welcome. Do you think it is possible to solve this problem just by a simple Regex replace? Are there any regex replace util which handles binary files well?

• Windows Key is shutting my PC with Windows 7 down when pressed

  I am having a really annoying problem lately with my Windows 7 PC. The problem, is all of a sudden, just within the last day or 2, anytime I hit the WIN (Windows keyboard key) instead of popping up the start menu, the system shuts down all my programs and trys to shut down, the only reason it doesn't suceed is because one of the programs I will have running will have an un-saved document, so it will ask me if I want to save the document before shutting down, I then can hit cancel and it halts the process. I do not remember installing anything and programs from from around the time it started doing this, maybe 2-3 days ago. I have gone through and searched Google for every Process running in the taskmanager to see which processes were REQUIRED for Windows to run, I then closed eveything down and killed all the non-essential Processes and the result was this... The reason you see notepad.exe is because I had it open with an unsaved document to keep the system from shutting down, I then tried hitting the win key after I shut each process down, after everything was shut to just show the above, it still tries to shut my system down, this is driving me insane, please help I am at a lost. I am about to see if I can try a different keyboard just encase it is some malfunction on the keyboard. The reason I need to access the WIN key or would like to is because I have Win + v set up to work with a special clipboard manager I believe it is called ClipX

  So, what's your favourite TC shortcut or shortcut combination ? Which one do you use and for what purpose ? Among my most often used: Ctrl-Left ( or Ctrl-Right ) - open archive or folder under cursor in opposite tab. Ctrl-Shift-Enter, Alt-F8, Ctrl-X - copy full file path to clipboard. Shift-F6, Shift-End(if needed), Ctrl-C - copy only file name w/o path. Select files, Ctrl-M - multi-rename, for example remove "DVDrip" from file names. Ctrl-\ - go to root directory. Ctrl-D, - go to directory with highlighted letter specified. For example, name a downloads directory "&Downloads" in favourites, and the letter after ampersand will be highlighted. Alt-F7, feed to listbox, Ctrl-A, Mark(menu)-Save selection to file - creates a file with all files and directories inside current, with full path. Ctrl-[3-6] - sort files by name(3), extension(4), date(5), size(6). For example, Sort by name, when you need movies and soundracks with the same name and different extension to group them together. Sort by extension, when you need to find EXEs in Windows directory. Sort by Date, when you need to find the latest file downloaded in your dir. Sort by size, when you need to delete the largest files for free space.

• Python not Working in Vim

  I have a new install of VIM from the automatic windows installer: gvim73_46.exe I have Python 2.7 (32 bit) installed. If I open gvim, and type: :set python? I get E518: Unknown option. If I try typing: :python 'hello' Vim crashes. What could be wrong? Here are the contents of :version in case they are helpful, although python is installed, and it is using Python 2.7. I also checked, and C:\Windows\System32\python27.dll is where it should be... I am really lost here. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going wrong? • How to turn off Excel "Header Row" without losing data in it?

  I've been sent an Excel spreadsheet with a weird first row. Some of the cells say "Column1", "Column2", etc., but I can't delete their contents. If I select the cell and hit backspace, it goes blank, but when I press return, it goes right back to saying "Column1". I found another answer here that suggested this could be caused by "Cell validation", but the validation window says "Any value", and also "show alert" (and I'm not seeing an alert), so I don't think that's it. The first row is white text on a blue background, if that means anything. The spreadsheet was sent to me in XLSX format, but I tried resaving as XLS and opening that, and it seems to make no difference. This is with the "ribbon" version of Excel (they got rid of the Help menu so I don't know how to see what version number it is!). Thanks! Update: The Excel online help says to use ribbon Home tab - Cells - Delete - ... to delete cells. When I select anything on the first row, this pop-up menu is dimmed. So maybe Excel doesn't think row 1 consists of "cells"? Though I don't know what else it would call them. Update 2: I found it, kind of. If I click the "Design" tab in the ribbon, then uncheck "Header Row", then first row becomes a normal row of cells again. Unfortunately, the contents disappear entirely. I want to delete a few cells, not all 50+! And if I copy the first row before turning off "Header Row", it disappears from the clipboard when I uncheck that. So I kind of know what mode it's stuck in, but not a good way out of it.

• Ubuntu 12.10 64bit host reboots when trying to install any guest system using VirtualBox

  I am having a really nasty problem with VirtualBox as everytime I try to install any guest OS(using ISO file as CD for installation media), the installation starts normally but as soon as it is about to start either installing to virtual hard drive or loading(e.g. as LiveFS) it causes the host system to reboot abruptly. Config is as below: Host system: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit - Intel® Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz × 4 Virtualbox version: 4.1.18_Ubuntu r78361 Guest OS systems tried: 32bit version of FreeBSD 9, Debian 6, Tails 0.14 VM setup Tried to have the minimal setup necessary just in case it would avoid for each system to make sure I'd avoid conflicts, but to no avail. I've tried different values and combinations of the below but the problem still persists: Shared Clipboard: Disabled Show in fullscreen/seamless: Disabled Remember runtime changes: DIsabled Base Memory: 2048 MB Chipset: PIIX3 IO APIC: Disabled EFI: Disabled Absolute Pointing device: Disabled Processor(s): 1 CPU PAE/NX: Disabled VT-x/AMD-V: Disabled Video Memory: 12 MB 3d/2d acceleration: Disabled Storage IDE COntroller: PIIX3 (same as chipset instead of PIIX4) Use host I/O cache: No Audio: disabled Network adapter: NAT USB controller: disabled No shared folder Also another sideeffect of the reboot is that it appears that it does not log any information in the error log files; not making things any easier. Please help.

  I have to sort some lines of cyrillic characters and I want to use the sort utility (on MAC OS X 10.6). The problem is that result is incorrect. I take the text into clipboard, then run pbpaste | sort This is plaintext data, and I also tried passing a file to the sort command. My source data is ??????? ????? ???? ???? ?????? ??????? ???????? ?????? ? ????? ??????????????? ?????????? ???? ?????? And after sorting I get ???? ???? ???? ????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ? ????? ??????????????? ??????? ??????? ???????? ?????????? Theese lines aren’t even grouped by first letter. I tried option -d, but then I get an error sort: string comparison failed: Illegal byte sequence sort: Set LC_ALL='C' to work around the problem. sort: The strings compared were \320\321\321\321' and\320\320\320\321\321\320’. Exporting the variable as recommended doesn’t solve the problem. What can I do to use the sort utility for such a task? Any additional info is necessary?

• Understanding Microsoft Word Formatting Behavior. Does anyone?

  This isn't a question about how to do something (well, not directly), but rather an inquiry to see if anyone understands why MS Word behaves the way it does with respect to formatting from a design perspective. This is also admittedly a rant about Word. This is a question that has plagued me, well, every time I open a document in Word, and covers a lot of individual topics, so I'll restrict the discussion here to two concrete behaviors that baffle me. 1) Backspacing over whitespace changes the format of preceding text. This seems to most often occur when the preceding text is a header or list number. The strangest thing about this is the new format of the changed text usually doesn't appear anywhere else in the document. 2) Numbered lists count almost at random. I am working on a document today where the list numbers count as follows: 1, 2, 2, 3, 3. The lettering in the sublists go like this 1: a, 2: a, 2: b c d, 3: e f g, 3: a. Clicking on each number or letter highlights the other numbers or letters that Word thinks it is related to, which are scattered around the document pretty heavily. Attempts to renumber the list have so far proven fruitless, as Word seems to maintain these associations through clipboard copies, etc. Why could this even happen?

• Emacs 24.1: How do I restore i-search Ctrl-Y behavior from older versions?

  In emacs 24.1, when you do Ctrl-Y in an interactive search, it yanks the kill buffer into the search string ("it pastes the clipboard contents" in any-other-app's language) and tries to match it. In the last 20 versions or so, pressing Ctrl-Y matches the rest of the current line. I have two very common use cases: Match this line, revert the buffer, and search for the line (less often:) Where else is this text in the buffer? I tried modifying /lisp/isearch.el, switching the bindings for isearch-yank-line (which I want) and isearch-yank-kill (which I'm fine binding to the ridiculous \M-s\C-e key sequence). But I don't think this file even gets picked up. But I don't think this file even gets loaded. If I explicitly load it, I still get the 24.1 behavior. Here's my change: (add-hook 'isearch-mode-hook (lambda () (define-key isearch-mode-map "\C-y" 'isearch-yank-line) (define-key isearch-mode-map "\M-s\C-e" 'isearch-yank-kill) )) No change in the behavior. I even tried hacking isearch.el, still no change. This is on Windows btw, but I suspect it doesn't matter. Could someone tell me how I can restore the old binding?

• Linux Firefox copy/paste issue

  I'm using Firefox 15.0.1 on Fedora 17 without running gnome or kde. The problem I'm having is that whenever I select text outside of Firefox, for instance in xterm, the middle mouse button doesn't copy it inside Firefox, for instance in a text area, but rather brings up a context menu. A related problem is that whenever I middle click inside Firefox, for instance in a text input, the middle mouse button brings up a menu when I'd like it to paste. Even if I select Paste in the menu not the selected text (from outside Firefox) gets pasted but the last selected text inside Firefox. In about:config I tried "middlemouse.paste true" and also "middlemouse.paste false" together with the add-on Auto Copy but no combination worked. A middle mouse click always brings up a context menu. But the Auto Copy did help with automatically copying selected text to the clipboard. With Auto Copy the only problem I still have is pasting by middle button. Follow up: somehow the problem solved itself. After removing Auto Copy firefox works as I expect it to (as any X application). I can't figure out why it was not doing it before, probably I was messing too much with about:config and not restarting frequently enough.

• What happened to 'Copy Public Gallery Link' for folders in Photos in Dropbox?

  I've been trying to figure out how to use the 'Photos' folder properly, but it does not seem to contain the functionality that is mentioned on various websites. From what I've read, you are supposed to create a folder within the 'Photos' folder. At that point, it becomes a public gallery for which you can access the context menu item Copy Public Gallery Link. However, I do not have this context menu item. I found a topic on the DropBox forum, but it is 2 years old. Even the various website information mentioned is over a year old. I found a topic from this year on SuperUser that mentions about the Share link menu item. I understand that this functionality is basically the same as Copy Public Gallery Link, however, the key difference is that it opens the website for which I need to click 'Copy link to this page' link, which then adds it to the clipboard. My primary questions are: Did they phase out the Copy Public Gallery Link from the context menu entirely? If not, is there a way to re-enable this menu item? If not, am I using the Photos folder properly? Lastly, if there is no way to get this menu item, is there some kind of script or hack-around that will let me simplify the Shark link + Copy link to this page functionality without requiring it to open my web browser? Note: I had to edit my post to remove other website links that I mention since I'm considered a 'New User' here and am only able to post 2 hyperlinks. Sorry.

• Asynchronous Html.ImageGetter for setting multiple images in a TextView

  I'm writing an application that takes HTML pages and parses them to display on the screen. Specifically, this application pulls HTML from a message board and lists posts made by users. The problem is that a lot of the content in posts are pictures in <img> tags, so I need to write a Html.ImageGetter to handle the downloading of the images. My textView.setText() method will look like this: myTextView.setText(Html.fromHtml(myText, new ImageGetter() { @Override public Drawable getDrawable(String source) { Drawable d; // Need to async download image here return d; } }, null)); Doing this synchronously is trivial, but is there a suggested way to do this asynchronously so that it doesn't lock up my UI thread? I would also like to eventually build in caching of these images, but I imagine that would be pretty simple once the async downloading was there.

  I'm trying to upload some pictures using php cURL on a classified ad website .I think that I set all the parameters properly but I see that there is a kind of redirect after I post the picture . • get image from iphone, using phonegap camera api

  I'm new to Xcode and iPhone apps. I want to select an image from iPhone (camera or library) and send to php via ajax. http://wiki.phonegap.com/iPhone:-Camera-API I'm using the phonegap framework, Xcode iPhone SDK version 3.1.x. On clicking button it calls function with parameter 0 or 1, but it does not initialize camera or display the library. I checked the simulator virtual phone; there is no icon for camera, but the pictures album is there. I used the same code as in the above link. What do I do, what and how to check? any other functions to get photos using phonegap?
