• GUI Framework for flash (as3)

  I can't seem to find any GUI framework's for as3 that are as good as any the applications I already see out on the web; Is this something most people code themselves or am I missing something in flash itself? I'm looking for dialogs/windows, buttons, text boxes, combos, drop downs, menus, etc etc and the ability to extend the components to make new ones. I'd also prefer it to be as3 but any others will do also. May need to elaborate a little.. I'm actually looking for a framework to allow me to create my own GUIs in flash, custom skins, colors, styles, etc.

• Creating a Box Control over an area of the map with OpenLayers

  I am using OpenLayers to create a box of interest with my program. I am using this code: var control = new OpenLayers.Control(); OpenLayers.Util.extend(control, { draw: function () { this.box = new OpenLayers.Handler.Box( control, {"done": this.notice}, {keyMask: OpenLayers.Handler.MOD_SHIFT}); this.box.activate(); }, notice: function (bounds) { areaSelected(bounds); } }); map.addControl(control); to capture the "Shift Create a Box" control and use the area selected as my area of interest. However the values come back as pixels. But I want Longitude and Latitude, not pixels. The Mouse Position control does show the correct long & lat. I really don't care how to box is created, I just want an easy way for the user to select a area of the map and I need to get the lat & longs of the area. (Box, Circle, doesn't matter)

• TooManyRowsAffectedException with encrypted triggers

  I'm using nHibernate to update 2 columns in a table that has 3 encrypted triggers on it. The triggers are not owned by me and I can not make changes to them, so unfortunately I can't SET NOCOUNT ON inside of them. Is there another way to get around the TooManyRowsAffectedException that is thrown on commit? Update 1 So far only way I've gotten around the issue is to step around the .Save routine with var query = session.CreateSQLQuery("update Orders set Notes = :Notes, Status = :Status where OrderId = :Order"); query.SetString("Notes", orderHeader.Notes); query.SetString("Status", orderHeader.OrderStatus); query.SetInt32("Order", orderHeader.OrderHeaderId); query.ExecuteUpdate(); It feels dirty and is not easily to extend, but it doesn't crater.

  For while now I have been using ezpublish as a framework, and CMS when my web projects are based on PHP, and I must say, I have grown accustomed to it because of its flexibility for most scenarios. However, I've had to build e-commerce sites now and then, and ezpublish includes a webshop that caters for the e-commerce needs of your installation, and of-course with all the tools you need to extend, should you need to. Is it worthwhile and optimal to use the inbuilt webshop for an e-commerce solution, or should I rather go with an all out e-commerce solution like Magento, which has made a significant impact in that sector?

  Is it possible to extend the gap between spoken words when using text to speech with SAPI5 ? The problem is that esp. with some voices, the words are almost connected to each other, which makes the speech more difficult to understand. I'm using python and pyTTS module (on windows, since it's using SAPI) I tried to hook to the OnWord event and add a time.sleep() or tts.Pause(), but apparently even though all the events are caught, they are being processed only at the end of the spoken text, whether i'm using the sync or async flag. In this NON WORKING example, the sleep() method is executed only after the sentence is spoken: tts = pyTTS.Create() def f(x): tts.Pause() sleep(0.5) tts.Resume() tts.OnWord = f tts.Speak(text)

  We are running several ASP.NET applications (one per customer) based on our custom framework (which just extend ASP.NET). Each web application use its own database (Initial Catalog in the term of connection string). Now we would like to add workflow capability to the applications (to our framework respectively). The particular workflows will be the same for all the applications only some initial settings of each workflow can vary, e.g. in one application the e-mail will be send to the user X, but in other application to the user Y. The question is if we can install one workflow engine (with one database for persistence) and share this for all workflows in all web applications. If so, how then workflow engine get knows the particular workflow belongs to which web application? Should we store some application identifier somewhere in workflow? Thanks for suggestions!

• Why is IE7 hiding my overflow when, as far as I can tell, all it's containing elements have overflow

  If you visit the site in question (haddongrant.com) and go to the Artwork section, if you click on an image and view it's stack in Safari, Chrome or Firefox you'll notice the images extend up and down the page, eventually disappearing over the edge. This is what you should be seeing. In Internet Explorer 7, however, the overflow gets cut off at some point before it ever gets to the end of the page. The problem is... I can't tell where! I've had a look and every containing element should show overflow. I don't know why IE7 isn't. Does anyone have any ideas where I might need to add an overflow-y:visible;?

Ideally it will span the entire length of the browser window and probably extend outside the field of view to support larger screens and also be centered so that the angle does not change. Anyone have any solutions? Also I think I might run into a problem of the angle aliasing harshly. I might need to resort to using an image. Would like to use CSS though. ** Image Spelling Error. • Android Class which extends Dialog, how to clear TextViews before it is displayed

  I have a class that extends android.app.Dialog, the layout is done in an xml file, and the setup (button listeners, etc) is done on the onCreate method. My problem is that whenever the dialog is displayed, then dismissed, and displayed again, the Editable TextViews are still populated with the information that was displayed previously. What is the common way to clear these text fields? Remember - this is a separate class that extends Dialog - so there is no 'onDialogCreate' like Activity has. Or, perhaps I am extending the wrong class? There is just a lot of processing being done, and do not want to have all the code in the main Activity. I would like it to be in a separate Class. I tried to extend AlertDialog, but it does not create the border like Dialog does. Any help would be great. • Adding to the browser user agent string?

  I have a plug-in that handles its own url schema (something like mystuf:// ). If a user clicks on such a link when the plug-in isn't installed (s)he gets an ugly error. So I extended my installer to write into the Registry (for Internet Explorer) and the user.js (for Firefox) to ADD a custom string to the user agent string. These additions survive a browser upgrade nicely (Microsoft uses this technique to indicate the presence of the dotNet Framework). Now I need to extend this to Apple Safari and Google Chrome on all supported platforms. To be clear: I'm not looking how to REPLACE the user agent string, but how to amend it with additional information. Any hint?

  Hello everyone, I am just switching from Ant to Maven and am trying to figure out the best practice to set up a EAR file based Enterprise project? Lets say I want to create a pretty standard project with a jar file for the EJBs, a WAR file for the Web tier and the encapsulating EAR file, with the corresponding deployment descriptors. How would I go about it? Create the project with archetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-webapp liek a war file and extend from there? What is the best project structure (and POM file example) for this?   Yes, I know this subject has been covered before (here, here, here, here), but AFAIK, all solutions save one choke on a list like this: L = [[[1, 2, 3], [4, 5]], 6] where the desired output is [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] or perhaps even better, an iterator. The only solution I saw that works for an arbitrary nesting is from @Alabaster Codify here: def flatten(x): result = [] for el in x: if hasattr(el, "__iter__") and not isinstance(el, basestring): result.extend(flatten(el)) else: result.append(el) return result flatten(L) So to my question: is this the best model?   Hi, I have a table in my LINQ2SQL diagram with a column called DayOfWeek in table JourneyBooking. Is it possible to extend/overwrite the above DayOfWeek property with my own property? The issue I am having is that DayOfWeek is 0-6 in C# but 1-7 in SQL, so I was thinking that I could overwrite the DayOfWeek property to subtract or add 1 depending on whether it was a get or set, is this possible or would I need to re-write all of the above code in my partial class?

• What's the best self-tracking software for Linux?

  I'm looking for a way to track myself and receive quality data upon which I can write future scripts/programs. For example, I use Google Reader a lot. I'd like to track the hrefs that garner my clicks. Further, I'd like to drop all of the words of each href into a database where they can be stacked in a hierarchical manner. At the end of the week I want to know that "Ubuntu" garnered 448 clicks and "Cheetos" garnered 2. :) That's just one example... I'd like this tracking and data-collecting to extend beyond my browser. I know writing something to do this myself wouldn't be too awfully difficult but if something already exists I'd happily use it. Thanks in advance. Primary OS: Ubuntu 10.04

• State pattern: Why doesn't the context class implement or inherit the State abstract interface/class

  I'm reading about the State pattern. I have only just begun, so of course I begin by reading the entire Wikipedia article on it. I noticed that both of the examples in the article have some base abstract class or Java interface for a generic State's methods/functions. Then there are some states which inherit from the base and implement those methods/functions in different ways. Then there's a Context class which has a private member of type State and which, at any time, can be equal to an instance of one of the implementations. That context class also implements the same methods, and passes them onto the current state instance, and then has an additional method to change the state (or depending on design I understand the change of state could be a reaction to one of the implemented methods). Why doesn't this context class specifically "extend" or "implement" the generic State base class/interface?

  Hey all- I'm doing some performance-critical Python work and want to create a function that removes a few elements from a list if they meet certain criteria. I'd rather not create any copies of the list because it's filled with a lot of really large objects. Functionality I want to implement: def listCleanup(listOfElements): i = 0 for element in listOfElements: if(element.meetsCriteria()): del(listOfElements[i]) i += 1 return listOfElements myList = range(10000) myList = listCleanup(listOfElements) I'm not familiar with the low-level workings of Python. Is myList being passed by value or by reference? How can I make this faster? Now I've got the problem, that people who use my plugin may have a different jQuery Version on their Wordpress Blogs, so what shall I do to manage that? • Extending configuration for .Net 3.5 Applications

  Due to a requirement in my current project, I have to build a configuration manager to handle configurations that merge local config info with database one. Custom configuration doesn't fit my needs, problem is that I don't know what's the type before loading certain information, for example: Loading database information I will able to know what's myhandler's type. Not previously. So I thought to write my own handler but I can't let set blank as type for sections, in fact .net requires to know what's the type to match myhandler nodes. I'm thinking on building a different parser to read XML nodes but I would prefer to match this structure. I've not found any information to do that yet, is there any way? Can I extend or hook up something into the framework to be capable of loading on-the-fly types and validate nodes? Thanks in advance.

• rails wiki site - article edit highlighting/strikethrough with htmldiff maxes cpu

  Hi I'm implementing a wiki style site and want to highlight changes made to articles between successive versions. Using htmldiff to highlight changes works great, except it is rather cpu intensive. I'm using the awesome vestal_versions plugin for versioning. So how best to handle this? I considered having an on_create callback on version creation create a delayed job that processes and then stores the htmldiff processed article (in the version table row). If this is a good approach, how can I extend vestal_versions without touching the gem? Or maybe there would be a better approach. Any advice is much appreciated. :)
