• Install server 2012 on HP ML110 G7 with B110i controller, no disks found

  I'm trying to install Server 2012 on a HP ML110 G7 with a B110i controller and four non hot-swappable SATA drives. I just can't get the Server 2012 boot disk PE environment to find any disks. I have downloaded the latest SPP (Service Pack for Proliant 2012.10) and flashed the BIOS. I have tried two different HP drivers for B110i and Windows X64, 6.18.0.64 and 6.18.2.64 to no avail. I have tried setting the controller to both AHCI and legacy mode in the BIOS, no difference. HP:s SmartStart disc for G7 servers only support installation of up to Windows Server 2008R2. HP:s installation instructions for Server 2012 Essentials says boot from the windows disk and use the storage drivers found on the SPP (I can't find any storage drivers on the SPP disk).

• "Product installation unsuccessful, please reinstall" error in CorelDraw X3 on Windows 7

  I've been using corel draw x3 and windows 7 for more than a month. I cannot remember when I last used corel draw x3. Today I've found something unusual. My PC has two account: one with admin rights and another is standard account. Corel Draw X3 runs fine on admin account, but when it is started from standard account (without admin right), it shows the following error: Product installation unsuccessful, please reinstall I could run this product definitely on standard user account last month. But it is not running now. I tried to run it with all compatibility mode: from windows 95 to vista service pack 2. For some mode, it opens and closes immediately after showing the splash screen, and for other mode it shows the above error. How to fix this problem?

• Web Client Service constantly in 'Stopping' state

  I have a user who's Web Client service constantly reports that it's in the 'Stopping' state and it's hindering her ability to save JMP files to a SharePoint site using the UNC path. She's running Windows XP Service Pack 3. I've tried modifying the Web Client parameters in the registry for UseBasicAuth and FileAttributesLimitInBytes with no luck. When I set the service to Manual and then try to start it after Windows boots up, it starts and then immediately goes into the Stopping state again. Other things I've tried: Removing/Reinstalling her network card Removing/Reinstalling the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Print Sharing Checked that the BITS and RPC services are running fine (not sure if they're related) Does anyone have any other ideas? Is there a way to repair/rebuild the Web Client service?

• User Provisioning Tool for SQL Server 2008?

  Yesterday I moved my machine from one domain to another - foolishly forgetting the implications for my local instance of SQL Server! Mixed Mode authentication is not enabled, and the only local account login has only "public" permissions. SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 had a tool called the User Provisioning Tool for Windows Vista (sqlprov.exe) which allowed you to add Domain Users to a local SQL 2005 instance (it doesn't work against SQL 2008 btw) - my question is.. is there a similar tool for SQL Server 2008 or am I going to have to do a reinstall? Also let me know if you think this belongs on StackOverflow

• Dolby Digital Live (DDL) on Asus Rampage II Gene (Creative X-Fi Extreme)

  Hi there, I have an Asus Rampage II Gene motherboard which has X-Fi extreme built in. I can get it to work with Windows 7 ok using the Creative drivers, however when I try and install the DDL/DTS add on pack from Creative I get the error message: "There are no supported audio device available. You need to close the application. Click OK to close the application now" I don't understand it because I have the Creative software installed ok and supporting the sound without any problems. In Device manager the audio device comes up as 'High definition audio device' and uses driver: 6.1.7600.16385 from Microsoft. I tried using the Creative drivers which show up as 'soundmax HD audio' however these do not allow any of the Creative products to run properly. Please can anyone offer any help? • Stack overflow in xp cmd console

  I am using an older program whose source code I cannot see. I am using the cmd.exe console in windows xp. The program ran with no problems on an xp machine last year, while a stack overflow code 2000 error was observed on a different xp machine (easy fix - use the machine that works). I tried running the program on the previously working machine lately, and now am getting the same error. No changes to the os were made and I did not change the service pack version. Any ideas on how to get around this stack overflow error so I can use the program? Dosbox will at least open the program, however it does not run to completion. Thanks!

  I have Windows 7 Professional SP1..64bit... and yes windows genuinely activated. I want to install Windows Media player 12 and it seems i require the "Media Feature pack"... I can't seem to find a good install. I've tried at least 4 of them.. both 64bit and x86. • Windows Vista Update Now Wont Boot Up

  My friend just updated her Windows Vista to service pack 1, or tried to. Now it wont boot up. Just black screen, some errors etc. I tried googling it and lots of people had this problem it seems. Anyone find a fix for it? I read somewhere I believe that Microsoft said to delete some files, Nvidia maybe? But I can not find that again, I forgot the exact error code I searched for before. Does anyone know what I am talking about? LOL Thanks guys.

• Windows Updates - Does Not Install, how can I remove it

  Everytime I shutdown my Windows XP, it comes up with the following screen which says "Turn Off with Installing Updates" (Of course, it also gives me an option as follows, "Click here to turn off without installing updates.") Now, when I do normal shutdown asking it to Install Updates and Turn it Off. It does not install the updates and every subsequent time I try to shut down the PC, it still comes with the prompt "Turn Off with Installing Updates". I managed to find out that this install was this "Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Service Pack 3 (KB955706) update 1 of 1 .... " Now, when I click on the Installing Updates icon (the yellow icon, that appears on the task bar near the clock), and Install it. It tries to install and it fails. Now, why is this install alone failing? Second, if we are not able to ascertain why this is failing, can we at least ensure that it is removed from the list of possible installs so that everytime it does not ask me to install it.

• Outlook receives winmail.txt attachment instead of Excel, PowerPoint or Word attachments from Lotus notes senders

  Ok so the title pretty much says it all. We are offering a Hosted Exchange solution for our customer. Everything is working fine except for one customer complaining that he is receiving winmail.dat or winmail.txt attachments instead of the actual Word Excel or PowerPoint attachments he should be receiving, only when these messages come from a specific European senders, that is using Lotus Notes. I know that usually the problem is coming from Outlook senders to other mail clients, but this is not the first they inform me of this but I can't find anything on the matter so far. Has anyone ever gotten and solved this problem? If not, does anyone have any idea regarding this? I had solved this problem a few months ago, by upgrading Outlook to SP2 and then uninstalling it using the Service Pack removing tool of Microsoft. It seems that only the latest SP1 version could work but not the SP2. The problem is that now nothing is working at all. Thank you for your help, Philippe

• DVD-RW Drive not recognizing a DVD+R disc

  Hi everyone, I am having trouble burning DVD+R disc's. My OS is vista and i have used this burner and these same discs in the past. I haven't had the need to do so in months and now that i come back to create some backups my DVD/RW drive doesn't recognize a brand new DVD+R disc. These disc are the same ones i have used in the past(Same Pack even). Anyone have any idea what this might be. Maybe a vista upgrade or something that i downloaded in the last few months that could have thrown something off? Thanks in advance.

  When I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager on my server, an error message appears that says: Reporting Services Configuration Manager An unknown error has occurred in the WMI Provider. Error Code 800706B3 This error appears before I can even attempt to connect to an SSRS instance. In addition to this problem, I'm not able to connect to my SSRS instance via SSMS on my desktop. When I attempt to connect, I get the following error message: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Additional information: The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt) Information about my environment: Server: Win Server 2K3 x64, SQL 2005 x64 SP3 Build 9.0.4053 Desktop: Windows 7 Enterprise x64 Steps I have already taken: I have installed the latest service pack on my server and workstation.   When I alter or create a stored procedure directly on production or QA database, after a few seconds I start experience timeouts and application becomes unavailable. Log files shows this error: SQL Server has encountered 3 occurrence(s) of I/O requests taking longer than 15 seconds to complete on file [C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\QA_Database.ldf] in database [QA_Database] (9). The OS file handle is 0x0000000000000568. The offset of the latest long I/O is: 0x0000002821a200 We have SQL Server 2008 R2 installed, including latest Service Pack. Production and staging environments are completely separated. I tried to reproduce it on QA, but to no avail. I have no clue what it could be. Appreciate your help.

• What is the simplest way to build your own .deb package?

  Having used Ubuntu for several years now, I've assembled a short list of scripts and packages that I always install on my computers. I would like to pack them up into a .deb to make it easier to get set up on a fresh OS installation. I'm imagining, for instance, one package that would install all of my custom BASH scripts that I've made for common tasks, and another one that would depend on other packages (like w64codecs) that I always install but forget that I need to until I go to do something and it's not there. It doesn't even have to be by-the-book; I'm not looking to deploy these publicly. I'm just looking to roll up all these tasks into one sudo dpkg --install. To quantify "simple" or "easy," I mean to say that I'm looking for the method with the fewest steps requiring the least technical knowledge and, most importantly, taking the least time.

• Difference between BES SBE and Express?

  Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the BES epxress and small business edition is? From what I have read they are both identical in capabilities and also both have a 15 user limit. But the BES express edition is free and comes with 1 user license and SBE costs about £800 but comes with 5 user licenses. Buying a 5 user CAL pack costs about £350 (from what I have seen). So if there is no difference why would anyone buy the SBE when they could get the Express edition free and just add 5 more licenses for about £350? Is there any fundamental difference between express and SBE?

• Server 2008 Hard Faults

  Hey all, plase bear with me as I haven't looked at a server in a very long time. The problem I am having is with a Windows 2008 Standard FE Service Pack 2 Intel Xeon X3430 @ 2.40 2.39 GHZ 4 GB Memory 64 Bit There seems to be no problems other than the physical memory peaking at 91%, always with over 100 Hard Faults Per Second. To my understanding hard faults should be fairly rare on a machine with. Are there any logs I can show you? Or investigate myself. The general performance of the machine is ok, i can access SBS2008 and change settings fairly smoothly without hangs etc. However, we connect to the server and do quite a bit of SQL via an application. For a record to retrieve say 20 rows, it can take 20+ seconds. • How can I troubleshoot Windows Media Player being unable to play videos?

  I have a Windows Media Player installation which is behaving strangely. I know I have the correct codecs installed for a piece of video, because it is Windows Media Video because the Zune software plays it just fine this is a recent problem; this type of video played just fine a week ago, but I have been unable to isolate the change that borked things (and I have System Restore disabled because the space on this SSD is cramped as it is) When I try to view any video in Windows Media Player, the video does not play, and I just get this: and none of the media buttons have any effect. I have already tried the following: Uninstalling and reinstalling the KLite Codec Pack Uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Media Player via "Add or Remove Windows Features" Removing and allowing WMP to rebuild it's media library by erasing the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows Media directory. sfc /scannow How can I troubleshoot this problem?

• Shareing two internet connections on my laptop running Windows XP

  I have two internet connections, one is internet via our organization's corporate LAN network, and the other one is mobile broadband via a USB modem Is there anyway I can share internet connections and use them simultaneously? I want to use the corporate LAN network for normal browsing and connecting my email client, and I want to use the USB modem for establishing a VPN connection. Will I be able to maintain both the connections simultaneously? Can I have parallel downloads, one using our corporate network, and the other one using the mobile broadband? Will I be able to switch my browser between these two connections? My laptop runs Windows XP Service Pack 2.

• Blurry Digital TV Signal in Media Center

  I recently reformatted my box and I reinstalled XP Media Center 2005. My TV signal is perfect if I plug it directly into the tv; and at any rate even shows I recorded previous to the reformat are blury. I have installed all updates (including Media Player 11) and I have installed a codec pack for different file types. I have no clue why it wouldn't display right. When I play the previously recorded shows in VLC they come out perfectly clear... Any ideas?

• Computer won't recognize second WD internal HD

  I installed a Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB internal hard drive, and want to use it for back up. My BIOS recognizes the device, but it is not recognized in Disk Management. It also is not recognized in "my computer." When I right-click my C drivepropertieshardware, I see it listed. First the drive was plugged into SATA port 1 on my motherboard, then I tried it in port 3, where it remains. I've been working on this for hours. Any help would be appreciated. • Sound does not work on the administrator profile.Works on a non-administrator profile on Windows XP

  Initially I suspected a missing driver, but then sound ( for movies,songs etc ) works fine on the other non-administrator account, but does not work when I log in to the Administrator account. And yes..I have checked the sound volume and mute status as well. • Error pushing to remote with git

  I have a fresh Centos 6 server stood up and I have installed git version 1.7.1 through yum. I am using the smart http method through apache for access. When I try to push to the remote server this is what I get: $ git push origin master Password: Counting objects: 6, done. Compressing objects: 100% (3/3), done. Writing objects: 100% (6/6), 436 bytes, done. Total 6 (delta 0), reused 0 (delta 0) error: unpack failed: index-pack abnormal exit I have tried these things which made no difference: chown -R apache:apache /path/to/git/repository (httpd runs as apache) chown -R apache:users /path/to/git/repository chmod -R 777 /path/to/git/repository (obviously not secure but wanted to eliminate this being a file permission problem) What can I try to get pushing to work?
