  • MySQL dump, output each table row on a new line whilst using --extended-insert

    I'm having an issue, where for ease of use, I'd like to be able to format a command line MySQL dump so that each row of a given table is on a new line when using the --extended-insert option. Usually when using --extended-insert, every row of a given table is outputted on one line, and as far as I am aware there's no way to change this, other than post-processing the dump with perl or such like. The format I'm looking for is: -- -- Dumping data for table `ww_tbCountry` -- INSERT INTO `ww_tbCountry` (`iCountryId_PK`, `vCountryName`, `vShortName`, `iSortFlag`, `fTax`, `vCountryCode`, `vSageTaxCode`) VALUES (22, 'Albania', 'AL', 1, 0.00, '8', 'T9'), (33, 'Austria', 'AT', 1, 15.00, '40', 'T9'), (40, 'Belarus', 'BY', 1, 0.00, '112', 'T9'), (41, 'Belgium', 'BE', 1, 15.00, '56', 'T9'), (51, 'Bulgaria', 'BG', 1, 15.00, '100', 'T9' However, when I dump a database using Phpmyadmin, using --extended-insert, each row is dumped on a new line (as shown by the example above).     I run an apt-cacher-ng server on Ubuntu Linux which writes logs in the following format: 1299745593|O|149406|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/t/tiff/libtiff4_3.9.2-2ubuntu0.4_amd64.deb 1299745593|O|10154976|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/l/linux-firmware/linux-firmware_1.34.4_all.deb 1299748529|O|39368|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/n/nagios-nrpe/nagios-nrpe-server_2.12-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb 1300155440|O|680100|XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX|uburep/pool/main/t/tzdata/tzdata_2011c-0ubuntu0.10.04_all.deb It shows the timestamp, direction (in or out), byte count, IP and filename. Every time a line is written to it, I'd like to also send that line to another program. I will have this program insert the line into a database so that I can crunch some statistics about how much bandwidth we're saving through operating a caching server. I do not want to cat the log file every X minutes (via cron) looking for new entries as it'd be somewhat computationally uneconomical. Instead I'd prefer to have a daemon monitor the log, and when a change is detected, each line is sent to my database-insertion script. Will swatch achieve this, or are there better options?

  • Scan-Line Z-Buffering Dilemma

    I have a set of vertices in 3D space, and for each I retain the following information: Its 3D coordinates (x, y, z). A list of pointers to some of the other vertices with which it's connected by edges. Right now, I'm doing perspective projection with the projecting plane being XY and the eye placed somewhere at (0, 0, d), with d < 0. By doing Z-Buffering, I need to find the depth of the point of a polygon (they're all planar) which corresponds to a certain pixel on the screen so I can hide the surfaces that are not visible. My questions are the following: How do I determine to which polygon does a pixel belong to so I could use the formula of the plane which contains the polygon to find the Z-coordinate? Are my data structures correct? Do I need to store something else entirely in order for this to work? I'm just projecting the vertices onto the projection plane and joining them with lines based on the pointer lists.

  • Line Intersection from parametric equation

    I'm sure this question has been asked before. However, I'm trying to connect the dots by translating an equation on paper into an actual function. I thought It would be interesting to ask here instead on the Math sites (since it's going to be used for games anyway ). Let's say we have our vector equation : x = s + Lr; where x is the resulting vector, s our starting point/vector. L our parameter and r our direction vector. The ( not sure it's called like this, please correct me ) normal equation is : x.n = c; If we substitute our vector equation we get: (s+Lr).n = c. We now need to isolate L which results in L = (c - s.n) / (r.n); L needs to be 0 < L < 1. Meaning it needs to be between 0 and 1. My question: I want to know what L is so if I were to substitute L for both vector equation (or two lines) they should give me the same intersection coordinates. That is if they intersect. But I can't wrap my head around on how to use this for two lines and find the parameter that fits the intersection point. Could someone with a simple example show how I could translate this to a function/method?

  • Resurrecting a 5,000 line test plan that is a decade old

    I am currently building a test plan for the system I am working on. The plan is 5,000 lines long and about 10 years old. The structure is like this: 1. test title precondition: some W needs to be set up, X needs to be completed action: do some Y postcondition: message saying Z is displayed 2. ... What is this type of testing called ? Is it useful ? It isn't automated.. the tests would have to be handed to some unlucky person to run through and then the results would have to be given to development. It doesn't seem efficient. Is it worth modernising this method of testing (removing tests for removed features, updating tests where different postconditions happen, ...) or would a whole different approach be more appropriate ? We plan to start unit tests but the software requires so much work to actually get 'units' to test - there are no units at present ! Thank you.

    Is it possible to create a terminal application which uses cocos2d? I've tried to make one using cocos2d 2.x, but it requires a MacGLView to be initialized. I need it so that I could program a terminal application that generates a screenshot given a TMX file and an optional preferred width or height parameter (for resizing). Then I can automate the generation of map previews for my game, instead of manually taking screenshots. It's not practical to load the actual TMX and resize it inside the game (what I'm currently doing), because each TMX file has 7 layers, my tile sheet is huge, and I have lots of levels.

    Vim automatically inserts a comment when I start a new line from a commented out line, because I have set formatoptions=tcroql. For example (cursor is *): // this is a comment* and after hitting <Enter> (insert mode) or o (normal mode) i am left with: // this is a comment // * This feature is very handy when writing long multi-line comments, but often I just want a single line comment. Now if I want to end the comment series I have several options: hit <Esc>S hit <BS> three times Both of these afford three keystrokes, taken together with the <Enter> this means four keystrokes for a new line, which I think is too much. Ideally, I would like to just hit <Enter> a second time to be left with: // this is a comment * It is important that the solution will also work with different indentation levels, i.e. int main(void) { // this is a comment* } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment // * } hit <Enter> int main(void) { // this is a comment * } I think I have seen this feature in some text editor a few years ago but I do not recall which one it was.     I've obtained a trend line from a particular set of data. What I'd like to do now is to reuse this trend line to predict values from a given pair (x,y) of coordinates. To put it another way, I have one pair (x,y) that I know is correct for sure. I don't know any other point. Let's assume the behavior of this new set is similar to the one I've got the trend line from. Is there any way Excel could compute other points following this trend line?
