  • Compiling a program with a legacy version of gcc

    - by wyatt
    This is probably a very difficult problem to troubleshoot with the information I can practically provide, but I'm hoping someone might be able to at least point me in a possible direction. I'm trying to install HTK (http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/), which, according to this page needs to be installed using gcc 3.4. Their method of implementing backwards compatibility: #yum install compat-gcc-34-c++ compat-gcc-34 won't work for me as I'm running Ubuntu (On that note, I take it I can't simply install YUM and the subsequent package, since it's an entirely different distro, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear it). I instead installed two versions of gcc 3.4 - 3.4.0 and 3.4.6 using instructions from this site. I then added the lines suggested by that page to the top of the makefile (on this note, what's the difference between makefile and makefile.in? I tried adding the lines to the top of both files regardless), both for version 3.4.0 and 3.4.6, but both failed. I also tried, on the off-chance, compiling it with my current version (4.4.1), but that also failed. I got the errors: (cd HTKLib && make HTKLib.a) \ || case "" in k) fail=yes;; ) exit 1;; esac; make1: Entering directory /home/charles/bin/htk-3.4/HTKLib' gcc -ansi -D_SVID_SOURCE -DOSS_AUDIO -D'ARCH="i686"' -Wall -Wno-switch -g -O2 -I. -c -o HGraf.o HGraf.c HGraf.c:73:77: error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:74:23: error: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:75:21: error: X11/Xos.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:77:27: error: X11/keysymdef.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:87: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c:88: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘rootW’ HGraf.c:91: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘theCmap’ HGraf.c:92: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘theGC’ HGraf.c:93: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘gcs’ HGraf.c:95: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c:96: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘report’ HGraf.c:97: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘hints’ HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXcopy’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXor’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXxor’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXinvert’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:151: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c: In function ‘InstallFonts’: HGraf.c:164: error: ‘FontInfo’ undeclared (first use in this function) HGraf.c:164: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once HGraf.c:164: error: for each function it appears in.) • Example map-reduce oozie program not working on CDH 4.5

    - by user2002748
    I am using Hadoop (CDH 4.5) on my mac since some time now, and do run map reduce jobs regularly. I installed oozie recently (again, CDH4.5) following instructions at: http://archive.cloudera.com/cdh4/cdh/4/oozie-3.3.2-cdh4.5.0/DG_QuickStart.html, and tried to run sample programs provided. However, it always fails with the following error. Looks like the workflow is not getting run at all. The Console URL field in the Job info is also empty. Could someone please help on this? The relevant snippet of the Oozie Job log follows. 2014-06-10 17:27:18,414 INFO ActionStartXCommand:539 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:] Start action [0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:] with user-retry state : userRetryCount [0], userRetryMax [0], userRetryInterval [10] 2014-06-10 17:27:18,417 WARN ActionStartXCommand:542 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:] [***0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:***]Action status=DONE 2014-06-10 17:27:18,417 WARN ActionStartXCommand:542 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:] [***0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@:start:***]Action updated in DB! 2014-06-10 17:27:18,576 INFO ActionStartXCommand:539 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@mr-node] Start action [0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@mr-node] with user-retry state : userRetryCount [0], userRetryMax [0], userRetryInterval [10] 2014-06-10 17:27:19,188 WARN MapReduceActionExecutor:542 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@mr-node] credentials is null for the action 2014-06-10 17:27:19,423 WARN ActionStartXCommand:542 - USER[userXXX] GROUP[-] TOKEN[] APP[map-reduce-wf] JOB[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W] ACTION[0000000-140610172702069-oozie-usrX-W@mr-node] Error starting action [mr-node].     I'm trying to port some image interpolation algorithms into HLSL code, for now i got: float2 texSize; float scale; int method; sampler TextureSampler : register(s0); float4 PixelShader(float4 color : COLOR0, float2 texCoord : TEXCOORD0) : COLOR0 { float2 newTexSize = texSize * scale; float4 tex2; if(texCoord[0] * texSize[0] > newTexSize[0] || texCoord[1] * texSize[1] > newTexSize[1]) { tex2 = float4( 0, 0, 0, 0 ); } else { if (method == 0) { tex2 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale, texCoord[1]/scale)); } else { float2 step = float2(1/texSize[0], 1/texSize[1]); float4 px1 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale-step[0], texCoord[1]/scale-step[1])); float4 px2 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale , texCoord[1]/scale-step[1])); float4 px3 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale+step[0], texCoord[1]/scale-step[1])); float4 px4 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale-step[0], texCoord[1]/scale )); float4 px5 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale+step[0], texCoord[1]/scale )); float4 px6 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale-step[0], texCoord[1]/scale+step[1])); float4 px7 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale , texCoord[1]/scale+step[1])); float4 px8 = tex2D(TextureSampler, float2(texCoord[0]/scale+step[0], texCoord[1]/scale+step[1])); tex2 = (px1+px2+px3+px4+px5+px6+px7+px8)/8; tex2.a = 1; } } return tex2; } technique Resample { pass Pass1 { PixelShader = compile ps_2_0 PixelShader(); } } The problem is that programming pixel shader requires different approach because we don't have the control of current position, only the 'inner' part of actual loop through pixels. I've been googling for about whole day and found none open source library with scaling algoriths used in loop. Is there such library from wich i could port some methods? I found http://www.codeproject.com/KB/GDI-plus/imgresizoutperfgdiplus.aspx but I really don't understand His approach to the problem, and porting it will be a pain in the ... Wikipedia tells a matematic approach. So my question is: Where can I find easy-to-port graphic open source library wich includes simple scaling algorithms? Of course if such library even exists :)

  • Enthought Canopy - passing sys.argv from PySide Qt program

    - by user2541559
    I've recently been looking at the Enthought distro of iPython. Today I decided to see if I could get some Qt GUI progs running and was successful after making minor changes. Simple example: import sys from PySide import QtGui # was 'from PyQT4 import QtGui' # app = QtGui.QApplication(sys.argv) -- not needed win = QtGui.QWidget() win.resize(320, 240) win.setWindowTitle("Hello MIT 6X!") win.show() sys.exit() # was 'sys.exit(app.exec_())' But I would like to be able to pass sys.argv in some cases. Most example code I see is in the form of the commented out 'app = ' line above. If I include it, I get 'RuntimeError: A QApplication instance already exists.' Suggestions for passing arguments appreciated. Nick

  • Decisions in teaching someone else to program: language selection

    - by Dinah
    My friend would like for me to guide her into learning programming. She's already proven enormous aptitude for thinking like a programmer but is scared of the idea of programming since in her mind it's relegated to some magical realm accessible only to smart people and trained computer scientists (ironically, I am neither but that's beside the point). My main question is the age-old and irritating question: which language should I chose? I've limited it down to these: PHP: dead simple to start with and I remember enough of the language to answer all novice questions. However, I can think of a million reasons why I wouldn't recommend this as a first language. The most diplomatic of which is that there's no desktop app option to which I would feel comfortable subjecting a novice. Python: supposed to be wonderful for beginners and generally everything I've heard about it screams that this is the correct choice. That's the problem: everything I've heard about it. I don't know it yet and have a lot of projects going on right now so I don't feel like learning it yet -- but I'm going to be the tech-support when any little thing goes wrong. I know there are tons of online resources but in the frustration of the moment, it's always going to be just me. C#: this is the language I'm most comfortable with so I know I can be good tech support. I also love this language and its versatility and community. The big drawback here is that I remember when I first learned it after doing mainly PHP, Perl, and JavaScript and I found the experience overwhelming. You are simultaneously learning: programming concepts, C# syntax, strong typing, OOP, and a complex powerful IDE with a bazillion options and buttons all over it.

  • Embedding swank-clojure in java program

    Based on the Embedding section of http://github.com/technomancy/swank-clojure, I'm using the following to test it out. Is there a better way to do this that doesn't use Compiler? Is there a way to programmatically stop swank? It seems start-repl takes control of the thread. What would be a good way to spawn off another thread for it and be able to kill that thread programatically. import clojure.lang.Compiler; import java.io.StringReader; public class Embed { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { final String startSwankScript = "(ns my-app\n" + " (:use [swank.swank :as swank]))\n" + "(swank/start-repl) "; Compiler.load(new StringReader(startSwankScript)); } } Any help much appreciated, hhh

  • Stack Overflow problem in a recursive program in C

    - by Adi
    Hi all, I am getting a stack overflow in one of the recursive functions i am running.. Here is the code.. void* buddyMalloc(int req_size) { // Do something here return buddy_findout(original_index,req_size); // This is the recursive call } void *buddy_findout(int current_index,int req_size) { char *selected = NULL; if(front!=NULL) { if(current_index==original_index) { // Do something here return selected; } else { // Do Something here return buddy_findout(current_index+1,req_size); } } else { return buddy_findout(current_index-1,req_size); } } Consider the initial value of index to be 4. and it first do index-1 till it reaches 0 index. and then it comes back to index 4 by incrementing..This is wht i want to implement. But it gives a stack overflow with memory map in the command prompt : Here is the output from my shell : * glibc detected * ./473_mem: free(): invalid pointer: 0x00c274c0 * ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6[0xb50ff1] /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6[0xb526f2] /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(cfree+0x6d)[0xb557cd] ./473_mem[0x8048b44] ./473_mem[0x8048b74] ./473_mem[0x8048b74] ./473_mem[0x8048944] ./473_mem[0x8048c87] ./473_mem[0x8048d31] ./473_mem[0x8048f79] /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xe6)[0xafcb56] ./473_mem[0x8048671] ======= Memory map: ======== 0017c000-00198000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 5224 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 00198000-00199000 r--p 0001b000 08:01 5224 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 00199000-0019a000 rw-p 0001c000 08:01 5224 /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 00260000-00284000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 1927 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm-2.10.1.so 00284000-00285000 r--p 00023000 08:01 1927 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm-2.10.1.so 00285000-00286000 rw-p 00024000 08:01 1927 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libm-2.10.1.so 006cd000-006e8000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 6662 /lib/ld-2.10.1.so 006e8000-006e9000 r--p 0001a000 08:01 6662 /lib/ld-2.10.1.so 006e9000-006ea000 rw-p 0001b000 08:01 6662 /lib/ld-2.10.1.so 00aa9000-00aaa000 r-xp 00000000 00:00 0 [vdso] 00ae6000-00c24000 r-xp 00000000 08:01 1900 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc-2.10.1.so 00c24000-00c25000 ---p 0013e000 08:01 1900 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc-2.10.1.so 00c25000-00c27000 r--p 0013e000 08:01 1900 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc-2.10.1.so 00c27000-00c28000 rw-p 00140000 08:01 1900 /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libc-2.10.1.so 00c28000-00c2b000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 08048000-0804a000 r-xp 00000000 00:14 2176 /media/windows-share/OS/Project2/473_mem 0804a000-0804b000 r--p 00001000 00:14 2176 /media/windows-share/OS/Project2/473_mem 0804b000-0804c000 rw-p 00002000 00:14 2176 /media/windows-share/OS/Project2/473_mem 08483000-084a4000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [heap] b7600000-b7621000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 b7621000-b7700000 ---p 00000000 00:00 0 b7716000-b7819000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 b7827000-b782a000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 bfb96000-bfbab000 rw-p 00000000 00:00 0 [stack] Aborted Thanks in advance adi

  • Limit a program's execution time in C (Monte Carlo technique)

    - by rrs90
    I am working on a project which has no determined algorithm to solve using C language. I am Using Monte Carlo technique for solving that problem. And the number of random guesses I want to limit to the execution time specified by the user. This means I want to make full use of the execution time limit defined by the user (as a command line argument) to make as many random iterations as possible. Can I check the execution time elapsed so far for a loop condition. Eg: for(trials=0;execution_time P.S. I am using code blocks 10.05 for coding and GNU compiler.

  • Asp.Net Program Architecture

    - by Pino
    I've just taken on a new Asp.Net MVC application and after opening it up I find the following, [Project].Web [Project].Models [Project].BLL [Project].DAL Now, something thats become clear is that there is the data has to do a hell of a lot before it makes it to the View (DatabaseDALRepoBLLConvertToModelControllerView). The DAL is Subsonic, the repositorys in the DAL return the subsonic entities to the BLL which process them does crazy things and converts them into a Model (From the .Models) sometimes with classes that look like this public DataModel GetDataModel(EntityObject Src) { var ReturnData = new DataModel(): ReturnData.ID = Src.ID; ReturnDate.Name = Src.Name; //etc etc } Now, the question is, "Is this complete overkill"? Ok the project is of a decent size and can only get bigger but is it worth carrying on with all this? I dont want to use AutoMapper as it just seems like it makes the complication worse. Can anyone shed any light on this?

  • What language has the longest "Hello world" program?

    - by Kip
    In most scripting languages, a "Hello world!" application is very short: print "Hello world" In C++, it is a little more complicated, requiring at least 46 non-whitespace characters: #include <cstdio> int main() { puts("Hello world"); } Java, at 75 non-whitespace characters, is even more verbose: class A { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.print("Hello world"); } } Are there any languages that require even more non-whitespace characters than Java? Which language requires the most? Notes: I'm asking about the length of the shortest possible "hello world" application in a given language. A newline after "Hello world" is not required. I'm not counting whitespace, but I know there is some language that uses only whitespace characters. If you use that one you can count the whitespace characters.

  • Perl OO frameworks and program design - Moose and Conway's inside-out objects (Class::Std)

    - by Emmel
    This is more of a use-case type of question... but also generic enough to be more broadly applicable: In short, I'm working on a module that's more or less a command-line wrapper; OO naturally. Without going into too many details (unless someone wants them), there isn't a crazy amount of complexity to the system, but it did feel natural to have three or four objects in this framework. Finally, it's an open source thing I'll put out there, rather than a module with a few developers in the same firm working on it. First I implemented the OO using Class::Std, because Perl Best Practices (Conway, 2005) made a good argument for why to use inside-out objects. Full control over what attributes get accessed and so on, proper encapsulation, etc. Also his design is surprisingly simple and clever. I liked it, but then noticed that no one really uses this; in fact it seems Conway himself doesn't really recommend this anymore? So I moved to everyone's favorite, Moose. It's easy to use, although way way overkill feature-wise for what I want to do. The big, major downside is: it's got a slew of module dependencies that force users of my module to download them all. A minor downside is it's got way more functionality than I really need. What are recommendations? Inconvenience fellow developers by forcing them to use a possibly-obsolete module, or force every user of the module to download Moose and all its dependencies? Is there a third option for a proper Perl OO framework that's popular but neither of these two?

I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

    I have a 3-rd party java application (I don't own source code) and I want to perform functional testing on it, similar to the way it's done in watin/watij/selenium/nunitforms etc. Can anyone suggest a library that I can use to do this sort of testing. What I'm interested in is clicking the applet's buttons, reading off text values, and the like. Thanks!

  • Adding program to mingw32's "path"

    I am running a rails app locally through NetBeans which seems to be running ruby through mingw32. I'm trying to do a system call to lame, which works fine using just irb, but this particular setup can't find it! What can I do to tell mingw/this instance of rails where lame is?
