  • change Visibility of a control in ASP.NET code behind (c#)

    How do you set the visibility of a (fileupload) control from ASP.net code (I need to hide a fileupload control in a webuser control from server site, otherwise hasFIle is always false). Also setting the "Visible" property to false does not work (as is confuses the AJAX panel so the fileupload forgets that it has a file). theFileUpload.Visible = false = does not work so I want to try to set the CSS style visibility to hidden or display to none. The main problem is I want to do it from the server side (I know how I could do it on client). Is there a safe way to overwrite theFileUpload.Attributes["styles"] in case I modify other CSS styles in there, also throwing a whole CSS class at it (by moidifying the CSSClass property) seems like overkill. thanks in advance Axel

  • CQRS - The query side

    A lot of the blogsphere articles related to CQRS (command query repsonsibility) seperation seem to imply that all screens/viewmodels are flat. e.g. Name, Age, Location Of Birth etc.. and thus the suggestion that implementation wise we stick them into fast read source etc.. single table per view mySQL etc.. and pull them out with something like primitive SqlDataReader, kick that nasty nhibernate ORM etc.. However, whilst I agree that domain models dont mapped well to most screens, many of the screens that I work with are more dimensional, and Im sure this is pretty common in LOB apps. So my question is how are people handling screen where by for example it displays a summary of customer details and then a list of their orders with a [more detail] link etc.... I thought about keeping with the straight forward SQL query to the Query Database breaking off the outer join so can build a suitable ViewModel to View but it seems like overkill? Alternatively (this is starting to feel yuck) in CustomerSummaryView table have a text/big (whatever the type is in your DB) column called Orders, and the columns for the Order summary screen grid are seperated by , and rows by |. Even with XML datatype it still feeel dirty. Any thoughts on an optimal practice?

  • Keep Side Navigation Fixed with Scrolling of page

    Hi Guys, I have a clients website - www.stagecraft.co.uk and they want the navigation on the hire pages (longer page) to still be there at when you scroll the page down. I've had a quick go (not live) with position fixed but in doing so it the leftside navigation is about 200px or so from the top of the window. Any when to get it at the top of the window when scrolling? Thanks in advance....

  • Visual Studio 2008 marks solution files as version 10.00

    Hi After trying out VS2010b2 also my VS2008 installation changes the versions of solution and project files to "Version 10.00". The MSBuild.exe on our CI Server does not support them. Is there a way to make VS2008 generate sln files with version number 9.00 again? I know, i can fix that manually. But each time I open a solution, the version gets changed back, which is annoying.   • SDL side-scroller scrolls inconsistantly

    So I'm working on an upgrade from my previous project (that I posted here for code review) this time implementing a repeating background (like what is used on cartoons) so that SDL doesn't have to load really big images for a level. There's a strange inconsistency in the program, however: the first time the user scrolls all the way to the right 2 less panels are shown than is specified. Going backwards (left) the correct number of panels is shown (that is the panels repeat the number of times specified in the code). After that it appears that going right again (once all the way at the left) the correct number of panels is shown and same going backwards.   • Sharing classes between projects in xcode/objective-c

    Hey folks, I've got a client<=server app I'm building for Mac OS X, using Objective-c/Cocoa and xCode. I've created a different project for both the apps I have, and I'm wondering the best way to share classes between them. There are several classes I've made that would be useful to both. This far I've been copying them around, but I feel like this isn't the best solution. How do I share classes effectively? Should I redo it as 1 project and just have two build targets? How do I do this? Any other info? Thanks.

  • In your experience, what has inspired you to change a fundamental programming tool

    A lot of what I am working on is changing the mindset of a community of developers. Moving them from one tool to another, or to picking up a new tool. What are some of the suggested or recommended ways to get a community to pick up a new meme? While we can mandate tool usage, this is a last resort. I would rather have the developers move to any new tools of their own accord. I'm not a programmer, I need to understand why a programmer will move from one tool to another. Edited the title thanks to a fabulous comment! My world runs on Meme's, tipping points, and general pressures. This is why I needed to ask. And clarifying yet more- I am the middle manager needing to plan and manage an implementation and not a sales person.

  • Using SoapExtensionAttributes on client side with async web methods

    Hey, I have a simple question. I implemented custom soap extension and registered it into client application configuration file. It works fine. (I would like to implement progress bar functionality like http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480520.aspx) But I don't like some thing - custom soap extension is invoked by every call of my web service. In order to fix this situation (call WS just by required methods) I implemented custom SoapExtensionAttribute like below: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Method)] public class CustomSoapExtensionAttribute : SoapExtensionAttribute { public override int Priority { get; set; } public CustomSoapExtensionAttribute() : this (1) { } public CustomSoapExtensionAttribute(int priority) { Priority = priority; } public override Type ExtensionType { get { return typeof(CustomSoapExtension); } } } I added this attribute to required methods of web service proxy classes (and removed registration into client configuration file). My soap extension doesn't invoke when required web methods are calling. Can someone help me to solve this problem or select any other solution?     I'm building an integrated system where I am using Trac for wiki support running on apache webserver 2.2. I had this idea to have a folder structure that is not \Trac\Project but something a little more complex. I want my filesystem structure to be like: -Trac -SomeContext -... -Project1 -Project2 -SomeOtherContext -... -Project1 -Project2 I would like to access them with the url matching their filesystem location (ie: site.com\trac\SomeContext...\Project1). From what i understand about trac only the folders in \Trac\ are searched with no depth other than the root. How can i solve this problem?

    Profile that is used for ASP.NET Profile Service is not available in Page code behind files like in Page_Load. It may be just a problem with Visual Studio installation/configuration, but as another problem, classes placed in App_Code in not seen in page codes. Even when I'm adding new ASP.NET folder to my project, "App_Code" is not available as an option. I tested the entire scenario with ASP.NET Web Project and Empty ASP.NET Web Project. This problem does exists while creating ASP.NET Website. Environment: Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate x64, ASP.NET 4.0, Windows Server 2008 R2 x64. What may be the problem and how it can be solved?

I have seen a few that work but only if you have one menu on the page which is not exactly useful using stopPropagation as it may cancel any other necessary instructions; any ideas would be appriciated.

  • DDD: Client-side script to enforce invariants

    Hello, One thing that I'm confused about in regards to DDD is that our domain is supposed to handle all business logic and enforce invariants. I have noticed some people (me included) handle certain invariants in the presentation layer (i.e. WebForms, Views, etc) with javascript. This is mainly done to improve performance so the server is not hit for every request which may be invalid. Even though this approach may be beneficial performance-wise, it violates DDD principles. What if the business rules are changed? This way we don't have a rich domain where all the business rules are captured. In case of a change, we should change the domain as well as the presentation layer. Has anyone come across this situation before? I'd like to know your thoughts on this. Cheers, Mosh

    Hi everybody, I have a little (maybe the answer could require a book) question about web services and server side programming. But first, a little preamble. Recently we have seen new kind of applications & games using some kind of real-time interaction with a database, or more generally, with other users. I'm talking about shared drawing canvas, games like this , or simple chats, or the Android app "a World of Photo", where in real time you see who is online, to share your photos, etc. Now my question: Are all these apps based on classic TCP client/server architectures or is there a way to make them in a simpler way, like a web platform like LAMP? What I'm asking, in other words is: Can PHP+MySQL (or JSP, or RoR, or any other server language) provide a way to make online users communicate in real time and share data? Is there a way to do that without the ugly and heavy mechanism of temporary tables? Thank you! I hope I've been clear.

  • how to verify browser IP for server-side web service

    I have a web service that needs to be able to verify the end-user's IP that called the server-script that is requesting the web service. Simple layout: Person A goes to Webpage B. Webpage B calls Web Service C to get some info on Person A. Web Service C won't give Webpage B the requested information without confirmation that the request originated from Person A's IP and not someone who has stolen Person A's session. I'm thinking that for a browser-based solution, the original site (Webpage B) can open an iframe that goes to the Web Service's authentication page. A key of some kind is passed to the browser which will some how indicate both the user's IP and Web Page B's IP, so that the Web Service can confirm that no one has nabbed anything. I have two challenges, but I'll stick to the more immediate one first: I'm not sure if my browser-based plan really makes sense. If someone steals the session cookie, how is the Web Service going to know? Would this cookie be held be Web Page B and thus be harder to steal? Is it a sound assumption that a cookie or key held by the server only and not the browser is safe? Also, would the web service, based on the iframe initial connection, be expecting the server/user-ip combo? What I mean is, does the session key provided via the iframe get stored by the web service and the Web Site B shows it has a match? Or is the session key more generic, meaning the web service is passed the key by Website B and the Web Service verifies that this is a valid session key based on what a valid session key should look like?

At the same time, we're so busy it would be imprudent not to charge fairly. We tried referring her to other shops, but she doesn't feel comfortable with anyone but us. How do people charge friends?     I have a blog hosted on blogspot dot com. In that blog, i want to put some data like Google search string or etc automatically. I want it to be done in this way: Just put a code (server side scripting) linking to a text file or PHP file, and the code will extract the text and output in my blogspot blog. What i DONT want is to use javascript. Beacause, if i use javascript then the output will be seen only in the users screen. I want the output to be seen by Google Bot too.
