    Case Management is a new addition to Oracle BPM in release 11.1.1.1.7 (PS6). This new release contains the Case Management engine, see blog Léon at  http://leonsmiers.blogspot.nl/ for more details.  However, currently this release does not contain a case portal. The case management API's, just like the already existing Oracle BPM API's, help in developing a portal page with relative ease. This blog will use some real life examples from the EURent casemanagement application and portal application developed by Oracle. The Oracle BPM Case Management API is a Java Based API that enables developers to programmatically access the new Case Management functionalities. It is an elaborate API that can access all the functionalities of Oracle Case Management. I will describe two of those functionalities in this blog: retrieving case data as DOM (http://www.w3.org/DOM/) and attaching a document to a case. Libraries First of all when creating a Case Management project you will need to attach the following libraries: These contain all the classes that are in the Case Management API. Service client To do anything with the BPM CaseManagement API in general it is necessary to create a CaseManagementServiceClient Object. The Case Management service client is the central piece of the Case Management API. It can be used to retrieve two different types of services. The first is the case stream service and the case service. The case stream service contains functionality to upload and download documents to and from a case. The second one is the CaseService.   • Downloading stuff from Oracle: an example

    Introduction Oracle has a lot of software on offer.  Components of the stack can evolve at different rates and different versions of the components may be in use at any given time.  All this means that even the process of downloading the bits you need can be somewhat daunting.  Here, by way of example, and hopefully to convince you that there is method in the downloading madness,  we describe how to go about downloading the bits for Oracle Identity Manager  (OIM) 11.1.1.5.Firstly, a couple of preliminary points: Folks with Oracle products already installed and looking for bug fixes, patch bundles or patch sets would go directly to the Oracle support website. This Oracle document is a comprehensive description of the Oracle FMW download process and the licensing that applies to downloaded software.   Downloading Oracle Identity Manager 11.1.1.5     To be sure we download the right versions, first locate the Certification Matrix for OIM 11.1.1.5: first go to the Fusion Certification Page then go to the “System Requirements and Supported Platforms for Oracle Identity and Access Management 11gR1” link. Let’s assume you have a 64 bit Linux Machine and an Oracle database already.  Then our  goal is to end up with a list of files like the following: jdk-6u29-linux-x64.bin                    (Java JDK)V26017-01.zip                             (the Repository Creation Utility to create the DB schemas)wls1035_generic.jar                       (the Weblogic Application Server)ofm_iam_generic_11.1.1.5.0_disk1_1of1.zip (the Identity Managament bits)ofm_soa_generic_11.1.1.5.0_disk1_1of2.zip (the SOA bits)ofm_soa_generic_11.1.1.5.0_disk1_2of2.zip jdevstudio11115install.exe                (optional: JDeveloper IDE)soa-jdev-extension.zip                    (optional: SOA extensions for JDeveloper) Downloading the bits 1.    Download the Java JDK, 64 bit version 1.6.0_24+.2.    Download the RCU: here you will see that the RCU is mentioned on the Identity Management home page but no link is provided.  Do not panic.  Due to the amount and turnover of software available only the latest versions are available for download from the main Oracle site.  Over time software gets moved on to the Oracle edelivery site and it is here that we find the RCU version we require: a.    Go to edelivery: https://edelivery.oracle.com b.    Choose Pack ‘ Oracle Fusion Middleware’ and ‘Linux x86-64’ c.    Click on ‘Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Media Pack for Linux x86-64’ d.    Download: ‘Oracle Fusion Middleware Repository Creation Utility 11g (11.1.1.5.0) for Linux x86’ (V26017.zip) 3.    Download the Weblogic Application Server: WLS 10.3.54.    Download the Oracle Identity Manager bits: one point to clarify here is that currently  the Identity Management bits come in two trains, essentially one for the Directory Services piece and the other for the Access Management and Identity Management parts.  We need to be careful not to confuse the two, in particular to be clear which of the trains is being referred to by  the documentation: a.   So, with this in mind, go to ‘ Oracle Identity and Access Management (11.1.1.5.0)’ and download Disk1. 5.    Download the SOA bits: a.    Go to the edelivery area as for the RCU and download: i.    Oracle SOA Suite 11g Patch Set 4 (11.1.1.5.0) (Part 1 of 2) ii.    Oracle SOA Suite 11g Patch Set 4 (11.1.1.5.0) (Part 2 of 2) 6.    You will want to download some development tooling (for plugins or BPEL workflow development): a.    Download Jdeveloper 11.1.1.5 (11.1.1.6 may work but best to stick to the versions that correspond to the WLS version we are using) b.    Go to the site for  SOA tools and download the SOA Composite Editor 11.1.1.5 That’s it, you may proceed to the installation.

  • Use Java exceptions internally for REST API user errors?

    We have a REST API that works great. We're refactoring and deciding how to internally handle errors by the users of our API. For example the user needs to specify the "movie" url parameter which should take the value of "1984", "Crash", or "Avatar". First we check to see if it has a valid value. What would be the best approach if the movie parameter is invalid? return null from one of the internal methods and check for the null in the main API call method throw an exception from the internal method and catch exceptions in the main API method I think it would make our code more readable and elegant to use exceptions. However, we're reluctant because we'd be potentially throwing many exceptions because of user API input errors, our code could be perfect. This doesn't seem to be the proper use of exceptions. If there are heavy performance penalties with exceptions, which would make sense with stack traces needing to be collected, etc., then we're unnecessarily spending resources when all we need to do is tell the user the parameter is wrong. These are REST API methods, so we're not propogating the exceptions to the users of the API, nor would we want to even if possible. So what's the best practice here?   • How select the rest of the word in incremental search in Eclipse?

    When in incremental search mode in Eclipse, is there a way to select the rest of the word? For example, suppose I want to find the word “handleReservationGranted”. I type Ctrl-f to enter incremental search mode, and start typing the letters “han”. Now suppose I have found the beginning of “handleReservationGranted”. In my search box I have “han”, but I would now like to be able to select the rest of the word, so that the search box contains “handleReservationGranted” instead of “han”. In Xemacs, I can type Ctrl-s, type “han”, and then type Ctrl-w. Now my search term is “handleReservationGranted”, and not “han”. So now if I press Ctrl-s, I find the next occurrence of “handleReservationGranted”. I frequently prefer the incremental search over the search dialog, as the search dialog takes too much space on my screen, and most annoying it frequently hides the found matches. I am using Eclipse Galileo (3.5.2). Ctrl-Shift-L gives me the list of possible shortcuts in the given context, but none seems to fit what I'm looking for.

  • How do I POST/GET from rails to API with either ActiveResource or rest-client (preferred)?

    Hi, this is a pretty basic question but I'm not entirely clear how to do this. I am trying to use a third-party service that has RESTful service. The service is called Postful. But I'm not clear what exactly to do? I've looked at ActiveResource (http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActiveResource/Base.html) and rest-client, but I'm still not clear exactly what steps, code, and files to create. http://www.postful.com/service/mail is one of the services (details found http://www.postful.com/developer/guide#rest ), but to upload an image I have to post the following (but I'm not sure how I actually do this?).   • Chat app vs REST app - use a thread in an Activity or a thread in a Service?

    In Virgil Dobjanschi's talk, "Developing Android REST client applications" (link here), he said a few things that took me by surprise. Including: Don't run http queries in threads spawned by your activities. Instead, communicate with a service to do them, and store the information in a ContentProvider. Use a ContentObserver to be notified of changes. Always perform long running tasks in a Service, never in your Activity. Stop your Service when you're done with it. I understand that he was talking about a REST API, but I'm trying to make it fit with some other ideas I've had for apps. One of APIs I've been using uses long-polling for their chat interface. There is a loop http queries, most of which will time out. This means that, as long as the app hasn't been killed by the OS, or the user hasn't specifically turned off the chat feature, I'll never be done with the Service, and it will stay open forever. This seems less than optimal. Long question short: For a chat application that uses long polling to simulate push and immediate response, is it still best practice to use a Service to perform the HTTP queries, and store the information in a ContentProvider?

  • Configuring dhcp module in FreeRadius (3.0.2 - Centos 6.5)

    I am using the REST module to authorise a DHCP request. I would like to send an explicit DHCP NAK if the authorisation fails, however the DHCP module seems to return immediately if there is a failure and just ignores the DHCP request without any response. If a DHCP NAK can be sent, the DHCP client will initiate a new transaction after each NAK (i.e. DHCP Discover), meaning FreeRADIUS will process each DHCP Discover from the client, and the block will be removed much closer to the desired block time.   • Zend Framework - How do make a hierarchy without it being a module?

    Here is my specific issue. I want to make an api level which then under that you can select which method you will use. For example: test.com/api/rest test.com/api/xmlprc Currently I have api mapping to a module directory. I then setup a route to make it a rest route. test.com/api is a rest route, but I would rather have it be test.com/api/rest. This would allow me later to add others. In Bootstrap.php: $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $router = $front->getRouter(); $route = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( 'api/:module/:controller/:id/*', array('module' =>'default') ); $router-addRoute('api', $route); $restRoute = new Zend_Rest_Route($front, array(), array( 'rest' )); $router-addRoute('rest', $restRoute); return $router; In application.ini: resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" I know it will involve routes, but sometimes I find the Zend Framework documentation to be a little hard to follow. When I go to test.com/rest/controller/ it works how it should, but if I go to test.com/api/rest/ it tells me that my module is api and controller is rest.

  • HttpHandler to handle all kinds of URL's in Mono Apache/XSP in order to build a REST service

    Hi, I want to develop my own REST service, so I've created a HttpHandler that is configured with verb="" and path="", the the application in "~/MyRESTsrv/" will handle any derivated URL. This approach works good in IIS7 with "integrated mode" and apparently in IIS6 if you map all the extensions to "aspnet_isapi.dll". Is this possible in Apache/XSP with Mono? Do I have to do something special or it will work out of the box? Cheers.

  • How do I cache WCF REST web service in IIS7?

    When I turn on output caching for my service it doesn't appear to be cache-worthy in IIS. It really should be since I'm returning the same JSON content over and over. The varyByQueryString option seems like it would do the trick, but since my resources are URI based, there really isn't a query string, just a path to a resource. Has anyone successfully gotten IIS to output cache a WCF REST service?

    I'm currently returning 401 Unauthorized whenever I encounter a validation failure in my Django/Piston based REST API application. Having had a look at the HTTP Status Code Registry I'm not convinced that this is an appropriate code for a validation failure, what do y'all recommend? 400 Bad Request 401 Unauthorized 403 Forbidden 405 Method Not Allowed 406 Not Acceptable 412 Precondition Failed 417 Expectation Failed 422 Unprocessable Entity 424 Failed Dependency Update: "Validation failure" above means an application level data validation failure ie. incorrectly specified datetime, bogus email address etc.

  • How do I create a Spring 3 + Tiles 2 webapp using REST-ful URLs?

    I'm having a heck of a time resolving URLs with Spring 3.0 MVC. I'm just building a HelloWorld to try out how to build a RESTful webapp in Spring, nothing theoretically complicated. All of the examples I've been able to find are based on configurations that pay attention to file extensions ("*.htm" or "*.do"), include an artificial directory name prefix ("/foo") or even prefix paths with a dot (ugly), all approaches that use some artificial regex pattern as a signal to the resolver. For a REST approach I want to avoid all that muck and use only the natural URL patterns of my application. I would assume (perhaps incorrectly) that in web.xml I'd set a url-pattern of "/*" and pass everything to the DispatcherServlet for resolution, then just rely on URL patterns in my controller. I can't reliably get my resolver(s) to catch the URL patterns, and in all my trials this results in a resource not found error, a stack overflow (loop), or some kind of opaque Spring 3 ServletException stack trace — one of my ongoing frustrations with Spring generally is that the error messages are not often very helpful. I want to work with a Tiles 2 resolver. I've located my *.jsp files in WEB-INF/views/ and have a single line index.jsp file at the application root redirecting to the index file set by my layout.xml (the Tiles 2 Configurer). I do all the normal Spring 3 high-level configuration: <mvc:annotation-driven /> <mvc:view-controller path="/" view-name="index"/> <context:component-scan base-package="com.acme.web.controller" /> ...followed by all sorts of combinations and configurations of UrlBasedViewResolver, InternalResourceViewResolver, UrlFilenameViewController, etc. with all manner of variantions in my Tiles 2 configuration file. Then in my controller I've trying to pick up my URL patterns. Problem is, I can't reliably even get the resolver(s) to catch the patterns to send to my controller. This has now stretched to multiple days with no real progress on something I thought would be very simple to implement. I'm perhaps trying to do too much at once, though I would think this should be a simple (almost a default) configuration. I'm just trying to create a simple HelloWorld-type application, I wouldn't expect this is rocket science. Rather than me post my own configurations (which have ranged all over the map), does anyone know of an online example that: shows a simple Spring 3 MVC + Tiles 2 web application that uses REST-ful URLs (i.e., avoiding forced URL patterns such as file extensions, added directory names or dots) and relies solely on Spring 3 code/annotations (i.e., nothing outside of Spring MVC itself) to accomplish this? Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks very much for any help.
