• C# Winforms Transparent Control allowing Clickthrough

- by Erik Karlsson
I have a problem, a bit related to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/855826/c-winforms-transparent-control-allowing-clickthrough Contrary to him i would like to capture mouseevents on my program, while still retaining a "window" to whats behind my program. color.transparent doesnt work, and transparencykey just delivers mouse events to whatever is underneath. Using a panel with transparent backcolor or with a backcolor equal to transparencykey does not give the desired effect. Plz help me :)

• LINQ to SQL SOUNDEX - possible?

- by Steve Hayes
Hello, I have done a little bit of research on this and looked through a few articles both here on StackOverflow as well as some blog posts, but haven't found an exact answer. I also read that it is possible to do it using the 4.0 framework, but have yet to find any supporting evidence. So my question, is it possible to perform SOUNDEX via a LINQ to SQL Query?

• Computer science undergraduate project ideas

- by Mehrdad Afshari
Hopefully, I'm going to finish my undergraduate studies next semester and I'm thinking about the topic of my final project. And yes, I've read the questions with duplicate title. I'm asking this from a bit different viewpoint, so it's not an exact dupe. I've spent at least half of my life coding stuff in different languages and frameworks so I'm not looking at this project as a way to learn much about coding and preparing for real world apps or such. I've done lots of those already. But since I have to do it to complete my degree, I felt I should spend my time doing something useful instead of throwing the whole thing out. I'm planning to make it an open source project or a hosted Web app (depending on the type) if I can make a high quality thing out of it, so I decided to ask StackOverflow what could make a useful project. Situation I've plenty of freedom about the topic. They also require 30-40 pages of text describing the project. I have the following points in mind (the more satisfied, the better): Something useful for software development Something that benefits the community Having academic value is great Shouldn't take more than a month of development (I know I'm lazy). Shouldn't be related to advanced theoretical stuff (soft computing, fuzzy logic, neural networks, ...). I've been a business-oriented software developer. It should be software oriented. While I love hacking microcontrollers and other fun embedded electronic things, I'm not really good at soldering and things like that. I'm leaning toward a Web application (think StackOverflow, PasteBin, NerdDinner, things like those). Technology It's probably going to be done in .NET (C#, F#) and Windows platform. If I really like the project (cool low level hacking), I might actually slip to C/C++. But really, C# is what I'm efficient at. Ideas Programming language, parsing and compiler related stuff: Designing a domain specific programming language and compiler Templating language compiled to C# or IL Database tools and related code generation stuff Web related technologies: ASP.NET MVC View engine doing something cool (don't know what exactly...) Specific-purpose, small, fast ASP.NET-based Web framework Applications: Visual Studio plugin to integrate with Bazaar (it's too much work, I think). ASP.NET based, jQuery-powered issue tracker (and possibly, project lifecycle management as a whole - poor man's TFS) Others: Something related to GPGPU Looking forward for great ideas! Unfortunately, I can't help on a currently existing project. I need to start my own to prevent further problems (as it's an undergrad project, nevertheless).

• TSQL Cascade delete for child records?

- by ElHaix
I have a parent/child table (simple tree) table structure (ID, ParentID), where I want to delete (and get the ID of) all children for a given parent ID - similar to this post http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1433808/sql-server-cascade-delete-and-parent-child-table . During the loop, where I've got the current ID, I will also be performing other actions with this ID. Can someone give me an example of the SPROC to accomplish this? Thanks

• Android - Fail to connect to camera

- by teepusink
Hi, I'm using the Android APIDemo sample code. When I run the CameraPreview example, at first it was giving me an error. (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2556389/android-camera-functionality-howto) I traced that one down and the sample was working for a while. Now, it no longer works. It says ERROR/AndroidRuntime(2949): java.lang.RuntimeException: Fail to connect to camera service What can be causing that? It happens when camera.open() is called. Thanks, Tee

• Sort latitude and longitude coordinates into clockwise ordered quadrilateral

- by Dave Jarvis
Problem Users can provide up to four latitude and longitude coordinates, in any order. They do so with Google Maps. Using Google's Polygon API (v3), the coordinates they select should highlight the selected area between the four coordinates. Solutions and Searches http://www.geocodezip.com/map-markers_ConvexHull_Polygon.asp http://softsurfer.com/Archive/algorithm_0103/algorithm_0103.htm http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2374708/how-to-sort-points-in-a-google-maps-polygon-so-that-lines-do-not-cross http://stackoverflow.com/questions/242404/sort-four-points-in-clockwise-order http://en.literateprograms.org/Quickhull_%28Javascript%29 Graham's scan seems too complicated for four coordinates Sort the coordinates into two arrays (one by latitude, the other longitude) ... then? Jarvis March algorithm? Question How do you sort the coordinates in (counter-)clockwise order, using JavaScript? Code Here is what I have so far: // Ensures the markers are sorted: NW, NE, SE, SW function sortMarkers() { var ns = markers.slice( 0 ); var ew = markers.slice( 0 ); ew.sort( function( a, b ) { if( a.position.lat() < b.position.lat() ) { return -1; } else if( a.position.lat() > b.position.lat() ) { return 1; } return 0; }); ns.sort( function( a, b ) { if( a.position.lng() < b.position.lng() ) { return -1; } else if( a.position.lng() > b.position.lng() ) { return 1; } return 0; }); var nw; var ne; var se; var sw; if( ew.indexOf( ns[0] ) > 1 ) { nw = ns[0]; } else { ne = ns[0]; } if( ew.indexOf( ns[1] ) > 1 ) { nw = ns[1]; } else { ne = ns[1]; } if( ew.indexOf( ns[2] ) > 1 ) { sw = ns[2]; } else { se = ns[2]; } if( ew.indexOf( ns[3] ) > 1 ) { sw = ns[3]; } else { se = ns[3]; } markers[0] = nw; markers[1] = ne; markers[2] = se; markers[3] = sw; } What is a better approach? The recursive Convex Hull algorithm is overkill for four points in the data set. Thank you.

• HTML character decoding in Objective-C / Cocoa Touch

- by skidding
First of all, I found this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/659602/objective-c-html-escape-unescape, but it doesn't work for me. My encoded characters (come from a RSS feed, btw) look like this: & I searched all over the net and found related discussions, but no fix for my particular encoding, I think they are called hexadecimal characters. Thanks.

• Can I center a UIToolbar item?

- by Ben
I am putting a label on a UIToolbar (per this tip: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/333441/adding-a-uilabel-to-a-uitoolbar). But the toolbar has a button on the left side, and so flexible spaces throw the label off the center, which is where I'd like it to be. Can I somehow center this toolbar item so that it remains centered in the toolbar? (Already tried balancing the button with a dummy fixed space, no dice.) Thanks!

- by Kottan
Is it possible to use the Biztalk adapter pack whithout a Biztalk installation (Biztalk license is available)? • SNIReadSync executing between 120-500 ms for a simple query. What do I look for?

- by Mike
Hi Stackoverflow, I am executing a simple query against SQL Server 2005: protected static void InitConnection(IDbCommand cmd) { cmd.CommandText = "set transaction isolation level read uncommitted "; cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); } Whenever I profile with dotTrace 3.1, it claims that SNIReadSync method is taking between 100 - 500 ms. What sort of things do I need to be looking for in order to get this time down? Thanks!

• Help me choose a CSS framework: 960 vs Blueprint vs ???

- by Christian Perry
I've been looking at different CSS frameworks. The two major players seem to be 960.gs and Blueprint. My question is simple: what are the pros and cons to each, and which do you recommend? And are there other frameworks that I should consider instead? Putting my question into context, I'm the designer on a site that's similar to StackOverflow, but with a general audience focus, rather than a specific technical one.

• Cover flow in iPhone/iPad

- by hgpc
I use FlowCoverView (http://chaosinmotion.com/blog/?p=295) for cover flow, which I discovered through this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/767048/iphone-coverflow FlowCoverView last update was in mid-2009 and it's performance is not very good when the images are taken from the documents directory. Yet, there are lots of apps with cover flow. I was wondering if we all use FlowCoverView, or if there's is a better, maybe iPad-optimized solution that I haven't heard about yet. What do you use to implement cover flow in iPhone/iPad?

• Python 3.1, trying to unescape html/unicode/xml characters

- by Sho Minamimoto
I found my problem here, but there is only an answer for Python 2.6. Basically, I need to unescape strings such as this: 'a altieri_joão' to show the proper characters. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/990169/how-do-convert-unicode-escape-sequences-to-unicode-characters-in-a-python-string I need to do this in 3.1, but when I try print (u'a altieri_joão') if gives me invalid syntax. And when I try name.decode('latin-1') it says 'str' has no method 'decode'.

• Stop UIWebView from "bouncing" vertically ?

- by Brad Parks
Hi there; Does anyone know how to stop a UIWebView from bouncing vertically? I mean when a user touches their iphone screen, drags their finger downwards, and the webview shows a blank spot above the web page I had loaded? I've looked at the following possible solutions, but none of them worked for me: http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/996-turn-off-scrolling-bounces-uiwebview.html http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=619534 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/173786/how-do-i-stop-a-uiscrollview-from-bouncing-horizontally Thanks!
