• Setting specified flags before serializing objects

  We have a schema that we serialize and deserialize into an object hierarchy. Some elements are optional in the schema. The xsd tool creates a cs file that inserts a property for each optional element. This property ends in "Specified", i.e. nameSpecified tells the serializer and deserializer to include the optional "name" element when processing. I'm trying to write a method that rips through the object hierarchy using reflection and if a property has a value and it has a "Specified" corresponding property, I want to set the Specified property to true. I've tried to do this using reflection, ie. foreach(PropertyInfo p in MyObject.GetType().GetNestedTypes().GetType().GetProperties() { if the field name ends in Specified check if there is a field with the same name without Specied. If there is, and that field name has a value, then set the field name that ends in Specified to true; } Its the middle bit that I'm having trouble with. I preferably don't want to rip through the hierarchy and create a list of properties ending in Specified and then rip through it again to see if the corresponding name without the ending "Specified" exists and then check if it has a value. And the rip through it again to update all the Specified fields to true. Seems a bit of a long way around :( Anyone have any bright ideas?

  I'm trying to send an e-mail using Google App Engine. I'm getting the exception below and I'm not sure why at the moment. • cache_money only writing to memcached on creates and updates, and seemingly never looking in the cac

  I seem to be having some extremely odd cache_money interactions. When I am on the console, and I create a new instance of a class and save it I see the cache misses and cache stores on my memcached console output. Then when the create finishes I see a bunch of cache deletions. If I then try to do any kind of find for the newly created object (or any other objects for that matter) I never see any cache access. This is highly confusing. I could kind of understand if all finds never hit the cache (though that in and of itself would be an issue requiring investigation), but finds do seem to hit the cache when the object is being created (checking for associations and such). Anyone have this experience in the past at all? Any thoughts? AFAIK there isn't really much in the way of configuration options for cache_money, and it certainly doesn't seem like there are any that would be on by default and be creating these kinds of symptoms. My cache_money config is basically straight out of the docs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Error when instantiating .NET/COM interop class via classic ASP

  Hi all, I am having a problem when trying to instantiate a C# .NET class that's been exposed to COM in a classic ASP application. I've used tlbexp to generate a typelib and registered it in Component Services; now when trying to create the object as such: Server.CreateObject("The.Class.Name") I am getting the error: Server object error 'ASP 0177 : 80131534' Server.CreateObject Failed I've searched around online for information on this error, and found numerous discussions but no solution. The error code 0x80131534 apparently means "COR_E_TYPEINITIALIZATION, a type failed to initialize", which would suggest the problem would be in the constructor. The constructor of the class in question sets a private field to an instance of another class from the same assembly, and then reads some configuration settings from an XML file. This behaviour is unit tested and I've checked that the file exists; I can't see anything else that could be breaking in there. A few other points which may or may not be of use: A test .NET project referencing the DLL can instantiate the class just fine; however a test VB6 project referencing the TLB blows up with the same error. Both the DLL and the TLB are in the same location. This application is running locally, on Windows XP Professional SP3 and IIS 5.1. The .NET assembly is built with .NET Framework 2.0, although 3.5 is installed on the machine. I know other people who don't get this error on their builds, so I believe it may be something environmental. Any suggestions are welcome as I've been struggling to fix this for some time. UPDATE This actually turned out to be a bug in the Oracle 10.2.0.1 client. Although, I'm still interested in ideas on how I could have figured this out without finding the bug in Oracle's bug database.

• Automating ftp command line application redirecting I/O in .Net

What I'm doing is starting the process from my application and trying to read what the client prints on the screen and sending my commands to it. The problem is that I can not read almost any data sent by the ftp client. Some data is present but most data is not read. That's the code I have until now.   I have an AdvancedDataGrid with a custom label function whose value can change based on other form status (specifically, there's a drop down to choose the time display format for some columns). Right now, I have this labelFunction: internal function formatColumnTime(item: Object, column: AdvancedDataGridColumn): String { var seconds: Number = item[column.dataField]; return timeFormat.selectedItem.labelFunction(seconds); } internal function formatTimeAsInterval(time: Number): String { if (isNaN(time)) return ""; var integerTime: int = Math.round(time); var seconds: int = integerTime % 60; integerTime = integerTime / 60; var minutes: int = integerTime % 60; var hours: int = integerTime / 60; return printf("%02d:%02d:%02d", hours, minutes, seconds); } internal function formatTimeAsFractions(time: Number): String { if (isNaN(time)) return ""; var hours: Number = time / 3600.0; return new String(Math.round(hours * 100) / 100); } ... and the timeFormat object is a combo box with items whose labelFunction attributes are formatTimeAsFractions and formatTimeAsInterval. The columns that have time formats have formatColumnTime as their labelFunction value, because extracting the seconds in that function and passing it in to the formatters made for a more testable app (IMHO). So, when the timeFormat.selectedItem value changes, I want to force my grid to re-calculate the labels of these colums. What method must I call on it? invalidateProperties() didn't work, so that's out.

  I'm trying to get data from file. The file first has three lines of text that describes the file, then there is a header for the data below. I've managed to extract that. What I'm having problems is getting the data below the header line. The data below the header line can look like "1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 abc".   Hi, I have console application. In that i have some process that fetch the data from database through different layers ( business and Data access). stores the fetched data in respective objects. Like if data is fetched for student then this data will store (assigned ) to Student object. same for school. and them a delegate call the certain method that generates outputs as per requirement. This process will execute many times say 10 times. Ok? I want to run simultaneously this process. not one will start, it will finish and then second will start. I want after starting 1'st process, just 2'nd , 3rd....10'th must be start. Means it should be multithreading. how can i achieve this ? is that will give me error while connection with data base open and close ? I have tried this concept . but when thread 1'st is starting then data will fetched for thread 1 will stored in its respective (student , school) objects. ok? when simultaneous 2'nd thread starts , but the data is changing of 1'st object ,while control flowing in program. What have to do?

• Posting messages in two RabbitMQ queue, instead of one (using py-amqp)

  I've got this strange problem using py-amqp and the Flopsy module. I have written a publisher that sends messages to a RabbitMQ server, and I wanted to be able to send it to a specified queue. On the Flopsy module that is not possible, so I tweaked it adding a parameter and a line to declare the queue on the init_ method of the Publisher object def __init__(self, routing_key=DEFAULT_ROUTING_KEY, exchange=DEFAULT_EXCHANGE, connection=None, delivery_mode=DEFAULT_DELIVERY_MODE, queue=DEFAULT_QUEUE): self.connection = connection or Connection() self.channel = self.connection.connection.channel() self.channel.queue_declare(queue) # ADDED TO SET UP QUEUE self.exchange = exchange self.routing_key = routing_key self.delivery_mode = delivery_mode The channel object is part of the py-amqplib library The problem I've got it's that, even if it's sending the messages to the specified queue, it's ALSO sending the messages to the default queue. AS in this system we expect to send quite a lot of messages, we don't want to stress the system making useless duplicates... I've tried to debug the code and go inside the py-amqplib library, but I'm not able figure out any error or lacking step. Also, I'm not able to find any documentation form py-amqplib outside the code. Any ideas on why is this happening and how to correct it?

• R: dev.copy2pdf, multiple graphic devices to a single file, how to append to file?

  Hi everybody, I have a script that makes barplots, and opens a new window when 6 barplots have been written to the screen and keeps opening new graphic devices whenever necessary. Depending on the input, this leaves me with a potential large number of openened windows (graphic devices) which I would like to write to a single PDF file. Considering my Perl background, I decided to iterate over the different graphics devices, printing them out one by one. I would like to keep appending to a single PDF file, but I do not know how to do this, or if this is even possible. I would like to avoid looping in R. :) The code I use: for (i in 1:length(dev.list()) { dev.set(which = dev.list()[i] dev.copy2pdf(device = quartz, file = "/Users/Tim/Desktop/R/Filename.pdf") } However, this is not working as it will overwrite the file each time. Now is there an append function in R, like there is in Perl. Which allows me to keep adding pages to the existing pdf file? Or is there a way to contain the information in a graphic window to a object, and keep adding new graphic devices to this object and finally print the whole thing to a file? Other possible solutions I thought about: writing different pdf files, combining them after creation (perhaps even possible in R, with the right libraries installed?) copying the information in all different windows to one big graphic device and then print this to a pdf file.

• Can I trigger PHP garbage collection to happen automatically if I have circular references?

  I seem to recall a way to setup the __destruct for a class in such a way that it would ensure that circular references would be cleaned up as soon as the outside object falls out of scope. However, the simple test I built seems to indicate that this is not behaving as I had expected/hoped. Is there a way to setup my classes in such a way that PHP would clean them up correctly when the outermost object falls out of scope? I am not looking for alternate ways to write this code, I am looking for whether or not this can be done, and if so, how? • Pattern for sharing data between views (MVP or MVVM)

  What is a good pattern for sharing data between related views?. I have an application where 1 form contains many small views, each views behaves independently from each other more or less (they communicate/interact via an event bus). Every so often I need to pass the same objects to the child views. Sometimes I need this same object to be passed to a child view and then the child passes it onto another child itself contains. What is a good approach to sharing this data between all the views contained within the parent form (view) ? I have looked into CAB and their approach and every "view" has a "root work item" this work item has dictionary that contains a shared "state" between the views that are contained. Is this the best approach? just a shared dictionary all the views under a root view can access? My current approach right now is to have a function on the view that allows one to set the object for that view. Something like view.SetCustomer(Customer c); then if the view contains a child view it knows to set it on the child view ala: this.childview1.SetCustomer(c); The application is written in C# 3.5, for winforms using MVP with structure map as a IoC/DI provider.

• Singleton Roles in Moose

  I am attempting to write a singleton role using Perl and Moose. I understand a MooseX::Singleton module is available but there is always resistance when requiring another CPAN module for our project. After trying this and having a little trouble I would like to understand WHY my method is not working. The singleton role I have written is as follows: package Singleton; use Moose::Role; my $_singleInstance; around 'new' => sub { my $orig = shift; my $class = shift; if (not defined $_singleInstance ){ $_singleInstance = $class->$orig(@_); } return $_singleInstance; }; sub getInstance { return __PACKAGE__->new(); } 1; This appears to work find when only one class uses the singleton role. However when two classes (ClassA and ClassB for example) both consume the Singleton role it appears as they are both referring to a shared $_singleInstance variable. If I call ClassA-getInstance it returns a reference to a ClassA object. If I call ClassB-getInstance sometime later in the same script it returns a reference to an object of type ClassA (even though I clearly called the getInstance method for ClassB). If I dont use a role and actually copy and paste the code from the Singleton role into ClassA and ClassB it appears to work fine. Whats going on here?

  I'm working on a PoSh project that generates CSharp code, and then Add-Types it into memory. The new types use existing types in an on disk DLL, which is loaded via Add-Type. All is well and good untill I actualy try to invoke methods on the new types. • Best way to manipulate and compare strings

  I'm developing a REST service, so a request could be something like this: /Data/Main/Table=Customers/ I need to get the segments one by one, and for each segment I will decide wich object I'm going to use, after I'll pass to that object the rest of the query so it can decide what to do next. Basically, the REST query is a path on a tree :P This imply lots String operations (depending on the query complexity), but StringBuilder is useful just for concatenations and remove, you cannot perform a search with IndexOf or similar. I've developed this class that fulfill my requirement, but the problem is that is manipulating Strings, so every time I get one segment ... • MVC implementation/best-practices question

  I have to work with some code that isn't truly MVC (i.e., it doesn't use an explicit framework among other things). Right now we make do with servlets that pass data to services. Here is my problem. I am receiving a post to a servlet that contains a whole bunch of address data that I have to save to the database. The data is (obviously) in the HttpRequest object. My question is, how do I pass this data into a service? I am reluctant to do it like this: AddressService.saveAddress(request); Because I don't think the service should have a dependency on the request. My other option is to do something like this: String addressLine = request.getParameter("addressLine"); .. .. about 7 other parameters .. String zip = request.getParameter("zip"); AddressService.saveAddress(addressLine, ... 7 other parameters ..., zip); But I don't like having a function with a huge number of parameters either. I was thinking of making an intermediate object called AddressData that would hold data from the request, and then passing that into the service. Is that an acceptable way of doing things?

• JSF Render response programmatically

  I have one parent page with a parentManagedBean (attached to Session Scope). On click of a button on this parent page, one popup comes which has a childManagedBean (attached to Request scope). Now ChildManagedBean holds a reference to parentManaged bean through JSF's managed property facility. On this popup window, user selects some option which populates a large value object. I use the managed property of childManagedBean to set the values from this large object to that of parentManagedBean. Problem is - The parent page shows a link, on click of which a popup comes, on selection of the popup, the popup disappears and set the values to the parentManaged bean. So far so good, but the newly set values need to appear on the parent page. This is where I am stuck. How to programmatically render the master page/render page when I am at the child managed bean? Is there a way I can get handle of the parent page and refresh it? Note: I'm using JSF 1.1 EDIT- After following the solution of "resubmit-ing the form" from javascript, I am seeing that the old form is getting resubmitting which overwrites all of my changed values.
