• Java: how to register a listener that listen to a JFrame movement

  How can you track the movement of a JFrame itself? I'd like to register a listener that would be called back every single time JFrame.getLocation() is going to return a new value. On careful examination, we found that the query was using the index that was on another view. This was very interesting as I have personally never experienced a scenario like this. • Please help me correct the small bugs in this image editor

  Hi, I'm working on a website that will sell hand made jewelry and I'm finishing the image editor, but it's not behaving quite right. Basically, the user uploads an image which will be saved as a source and then it will be resized to fit the user's screen and saved as a temp. The user will then go to a screen that will allow them to crop the image and then save it to it's final versions. All of that works fine, except, the final versions have 3 bugs. First is some black horizontal line on the very bottom of the image. Second is an outline of sorts that follows the edges. I thought it was because I was reducing the quality, but even at 100% it still shows up... And lastly, I've noticed that the cropped image is always a couple of pixels lower than what I'm specifying... Anyway, I'm hoping someone whose got experience in editing images with C# can maybe take a look at the code and see where I might be going off the right path. • How do you test your blackberry application on the device?

  This may sound very noobish, but I can't seem to get my app to my blackberry. I was trying to follow the beginning blackberry development book's guide, but maybe I just missed the point somewhere. For remote download, Is it really as simple as drop the COD and JAD files in the same folder on your server then just navigate to the URL with your device's browser? The book says it should prompt a download screen, but all I get is a page full of cryptic characters. My app is a simple slideshow. Uses no signed things and is not MDS enabled. Did I forget something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  Hi, I create a TableLayout which has 3 equally-wide columns (I put 'stretchColumns="*" in my TableLayout which has 3 TextViews). See below: But my questions is why I set one of the TextView to 'visibility' to Gone in my java code, the TableLayout does not re-size to 2 qually-wide columns which fit the whole screen. I have even call 'tableLayout.requestLayout()' after i set the visibility to Gone.' How can I achieve what I want? • Flash in firefox does not start unitl they show in page

  I have this little problem. My client wanted two distinct swf on a web page: a viewer on top and a slideshow of images at bottom. Clicking a link on the slideshow make the viewer load a movie, by means of LocalConnection api. The slideshow has a default, so when the page is loaded a default movie start. This works nice on all browser. The only problem I have is on firefox. When screen resolution is too low, or the monitor is too small (netbook) the slideshow remain hidden until scrolling. Therefore at page loading it doesn't start and the main viewer don't get instructed on playing the default video. As soon as I scroll the page, and the slideshow swf display on page, it starts and everything works fine. Do you know if there are any solution to this ? I cannot change the design, I must have two distinct swf, they come from a library he has, and I am trying to reuse components. thanks Leonardo

  Dear all, I am tasked with a project that requires me to retreieve a specific file from a folder where I can only get an X and Y on the screen. While in XP I managed to use the fact that windows explorer is in essence a list view, and used the WM_HITTEST message to obtain information about the file, in Windows 7, this is not the case. To solve this problem, I am using UI Automation, which is a great tool for such things, only problem is that in the case, the windows handle I am looking at belongs to the desktop, and the desktop might have several files with the same name but with different extensions (and windows is configured to "hide extensions of known file types") UI automation does not return the extension back to me. I have tried many things, but I cannot find any robust solution which would give me 100% success. Has anyone tried this? successfully? Would appreciate any pointers. Many thanks,

• Android 2.2 AVD: no Quick Search Box?

  I have recently updated my Android SDK to include support for Android 2.2 (API level 8). The app that I'm building integrates with the Quick Search Box (QSB) home screen widget, which I can't seem to find in this version (using both vanilla 2.2 and the Google APIs version). I was kind of excited when they announced that they have improved its functionality, but it seems there's no way for me to observe it. Is this normal? Are others experiencing the same issue? Or is this somehow related to my setup (running Archlinux and installed the Android SDK from the repositories).

• IE8 Developer Tools won't open

  Just installed IE8 on WinXP. Trying to use the Dev Tools but, clicking on the menu item or hitting F12 doesn't do anything. I can see the option in the tools menu, just can't use it. I've checked to make sure it wasn't opening minimized or off screen and I've checked the registry settings used to disable them. Those registry keys don't even exists. Suggestions? I was going to reinstall, but, thought I'd check here first.

• Wrapping variable width text in emacs lisp

  I am hacking up a tagging application for emacs. I have got a tag cloud/weighted list successfully displaying on a buffer, but i am running into a snag. I need to be able to properly word-wrap the buffer, but I haven't a clue where to start. The font I am using is a variable width font. On top of that, each tag is going to be in a different size, depending on how many times it shows up on the buffer. Finally, the window that displays the tagcloud could be in a window that is 200 pixels wide, or the full screen width. I really have no idea where to start.   Hi all, I'm looking to revamp our mobile site with something simple for phones below the ambiguous smart phone category and something a little more interesting for the phones above this category. I'm not interested in WAP/WML for this project. I'm building a ASP.Net 4 MCV 2 app and using MBDF What I'd like to know is how best to define this differentiation when using MBDF? Screen size, Javascript, SpportsTouchScreen etc. are all in MBDF along with others but I'm not sure where to draw the line and where the data is most accurate for the broad number of devices. What do those of you out there developing for this spread of hardware & software split on? Thanks, Denis P.S. I've done my research on xHTML MP1.0 - 1.2 and the best practises for implementation to ensure broad coverage but I don't want to restrict the newer phones out there to what the base line can see.

• asp.net dynamic sitemap with querystring? Session variable seems like overkill.

  Hi, I'm using ASP.NET WebForms. I'm using the standard sitemap provider. Home User Account Entry Going to the home page should have a user selection screen. Clicking on a user should list out the user's accounts with options to edit, delete, add accounts. Selecting an account should list out all the user's account's entries with options to edit delete and add entries. How do you normally pass this information between pages? I could use the query string, but then, the sitemap doesn't work. The sitemap only has the exact page without the query string and therefore loses the information. /User/Account/List.aspx?User=123 /User/Account/Entry/List.aspx?User=123&Account=322 I could use a session variable, but this seems overkill. Thoughts and suggestions very appreciated. Thanks!

• blackberry mainscreen vertical scroll

  I am trying to create a MainScreen with vertical scrolling. From what I've read in the documentation, MainScreen has a VerticalManager inside, so it should be possible to enable vertical scrolling only with proper construction, i.e: super(MainScreen.VERTICAL_SCROLL | MainScreen.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR); This is not working for me, however. I am creating a screen, adding a couple of LabelFields and no scrollbar, no scrolling at all. I am testing on 8900, OS 5.0.   I have a 100x100 pixel image that I want to draw at various angles rotated around the center of the image. The following code works, but rotates around the original origo of the coordinate system (upper left hand corner) and not the translated location. Thus the image is not rotated around itself but around the upper left corner of the screen.   I added support for vCards to one of my ASP.NET MVC applications. I worked vCard support out as very simple and intelligent solution that fits perfectly to ASP.NET MVC applications. In this posting I will show you how to send vCards out as response to ASP.NET MVC request. We need three things: some vCard class, vCard action result, controller method to test vCard action result. Everything is very simple, let’s get hands on. vCard class As first thing we need vCard class. Last year I introduced vCard class that supports also images. Let’s take this class because it is easy to use and some dirty work is already done for us. NB! Take a look at ASP.NET example in the blog posting referred above. We need it later when we close the topic. Now think about how useful blogging and information sharing with others can be. With this class available at public I saved pretty much time now. :) vCardResult As we have vCard it is now time to write action result that we can use in our controllers. • Does Test Driven Development (TDD) improve Quality and Correctness? (Part 1)

  Since the dawn of the computer age, various methodologies have been introduced to improve quality and reduce cost. In this posting, I will by sharing my experiences with Test Driven Development; both its benefits and limitations. To start this topic, we need to agree on what TDD is. The first is to define each of the three words as used in this context. Test - An item or action which measures something in some quantifiable form. Driven - The primary motivation or focus of a series of activities (process) Development - All phases of a software project/product from concept through delivery. The above are very simple definitions that result in the following: "TDD is a process where the primary focus is on measuring and quantifying all aspects of the creation of a (software) product." There are many places where TDD is used outside of software development, even though it is not known by this name. Consider the (conventional) education process that most of us grew up on. The focus was to get the best grades as measured by different tests. Many of these tests measured rote memorization and not understanding of the subject matter. The result of this that many people graduated with high scores but without "quality and correctness" in their ability to utilize the subject matter (of course, the flip side is true where certain people DID understand the material but were not very good at taking this type of test). Returning to software development, let us look at some common scenarios. While these items are generally applicable regardless of platform, language and tools; the remainder of this post will utilize Microsoft Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server (TFS) for examples. It should be realized that everyone does at least some aspect of TDD. At the most rudimentary level, getting a program to compile involves a "pass/fail" measurement (is the syntax valid) that drives their ability to proceed further (run the program). Other developers may create "Unit Tests" in the belief that having a test for every method/property of a class and good code coverage is the goal of TDD. These items may be helpful and even important, but really only address a small aspect of the overall effort. To see TDD in a bigger view, lets identify the various activities that are part of the Software Development LifeCycle. These are going to be presented in a Waterfall style for simplicity, but each item also occurs within Iterative methodologies such as Agile/Scrum. the key ones here are: Requirements Gathering Architecture Design Implementation Quality Assurance Can each of these items be subjected to a process which establishes metrics (quantified metrics) that reflect both the quality and correctness of each item? It should be clear that conventional Unit Tests do not apply to all of these items; at best they can verify that a local aspect (e.g. a Class/Method) of implementation matches the (test writers perspective of) the appropriate design document. So what can we do? For each of area, the goal is to create tests that are quantifiable and durable. The ability to quantify the measurements (beyond a simple pass/fail) is critical to tracking progress(eventually measuring the level of success that has been achieved) and for providing clear information on what items need to be addressed (along with the appropriate time to address them - in varying levels of detail) . Durability is important so that the test can be reapplied (ideally in an automated fashion) over the entire cycle. Returning for a moment back to our "education example", one must also be careful of how the tests are organized and how the measurements are taken. If a test is in a multiple choice format, there is a significant statistical probability that a correct answer might be the result of a random guess. Also, in many situations, having the student simply provide a final answer can obscure many important elements. For example, on a math test, having the student simply provide a numeric answer (rather than showing the methodology) may result in a complete mismatch between the process and the result. It is hard to determine which is worse: The student who makes a simple arithmetric error at one step of a long process (resulting in a wrong answer) or The student who (without providing the "workflow") uses a completely invalid approach, yet still comes up with the right number. The "Wrong Process"/"Right Answer" is probably the single biggest problem in software development. Even very simple items can suffer from this. As an example consider the following code for a "straight line" calculation....Is it correct? (for Integral Points)         int Solve(int m, int b, int x) { return m * x + b; }   Most people would respond "Yes". But let's take the question one step further... Is it correct for all possible values of m,b,x??? (no fair if you cheated by being focused on the bolded text!)  Without additional information regarding constrains on "the possible values of m,b,x" the answer must be NO, there is the risk of overflow/wraparound that will produce an incorrect result! To properly answer this question (i.e. Test the Code), one MUST be able to backtrack from the implementation through the design, and architecture all the way back to the requirements. And the requirement itself must be tested against the stakeholder(s). It is only when the bounding conditions are defined that it is possible to determine if the code is "Correct" and has "Quality". Yet, how many of us (myself included) have written such code without even thinking about it. In many canses we (think we) "know" what the bounds are, and that the code will be correct. As we all know, requirements change, "code reuse" causes implementations to be applied to different scenarios, etc. This leads directly to the types of system failures that plague so many projects. This approach to TDD is much more holistic than ones which start by focusing on the details. The fundamental concepts still apply: Each item should be tested. The test should be defined/implemented before (or concurrent with) the definition/implementation of the actual item. We also add concepts that expand the scope and alter the style by recognizing: There are many things beside "lines of code" that benefit from testing (measuring/evaluating in a formal way) Correctness and Quality can not be solely measured by "correct results" In the future parts, we will examine in greater detail some of the techniques that can be applied to each of these areas....

  I have a cameraoverlayview that allocates a UINavigationBar to the top of the screen like this - CGRect navbarFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 44); navigationBar = [[UINavigationBar alloc] initWithFrame:navbarFrame]; navigationBar.delegate = self; Now I want to add a UIBarButtonItem as the left button to the navigation bar, but the standard navigationbar.leftitem doesn't work. So I tried doing this - closebutton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:closebuttontext style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:@selector(close)]; navigationBar.topItem.leftBarButtonItem = closebutton; But it doesn't work either. Can anyone point me in the right direction? As far as the navigation bar loading up correctly in the cameraoverlayview, it works 100%.

  With reference to the question I asked couple of days back, it seems to me that address bar cannot be hidden from a xpages mobile web application when it is launched from a href link. Choice is limited to href as "location.assign" or any javascript will not work on mails accessed by lotus traveller. I tried almost 20 different variations published by other experts to hide address bar and none seems to work. Am I wrong in stating that "it is not possible to hide address bar in Xpages mobile web application on ipad when not launched from home screen"?

• Winforms application hungs when switching to another app

This started when I put the threading code. Could I have some rogue threads out there? what is the best way to zero in a threading problem? • UITableView details as a subview

  Hi all, I have a UITableView in iPhone with enough cell to make it scrollable. I would like to have a subview display whenever I click on a cell, rather than using the navigation controller behaviour. The problem is that I cannot calculate the CGRect exactly to have the subview always centered in page, because the CGRect is calculated from top of table, and if I scroll table and click cell, the subview will be added out of screen. The solution could be easy, but I don't know if it's possible: identify the portion of the current viewable area of the UITableView and obtain in some way the frame and therefore origin and size, then build a subview based on such coordinates. Do you think it's possible without writing not too much code ? thanks Leonardo

  I have a root stage, and a MC that is called from the root stage.Now from that MC, i will called in another MC2, and I wanted to placed the MC in the center of the stage. The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen. How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?

• Dragging a Sprite (Cocos2D) while Chipmunk is simulating

  Hello all! I have a simple project built with Cocos2D and Chipmunk. So far it's just a Ball (body, shape & sprite) bouncing on the Ground (a static line segment at the bottom of the screen). I implemented the ccTouchesBegan/Moved/Ended methods to drag the ball around. I've tried both: cpBodySlew(ballBody, touchPoint, 1.0/60.0f); and ballBody->p = cgPointMake(touchPoint.x,touchPoint.y); and while the Ball does follow my dragging, it's still being affected by gravity and it tries to go down (which causes velocity problems and others). Does anyone know of the preferred way to Drag an active Body while the physics simulation is going on? Do I need somehow to stop the simulation and turn it back on afterwards? Thanks!
