  ADF Mobile Client is now generally available!  The press release went out this morning, and the ADF Mobile Client extensions can now be downloaded in the JDeveloper Update Center.  There is also a new Oracle Mobile Computing Strategy White Paper and Data Sheet available, for a high level overview of ADF Mobile.   Apps sysadmins are going to have a busy year.  If you're still running your E-Business Suite environment on the 10gR2 database, I hope that you're aware that Premier Support for 10.2 ends in July 2010.  But if you're still on Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i version 11.5.10, the impending end of Premier Support this year on November 30, 2010 is even more important.  Support windows for Oracle E-Business Suite are listed here:Oracle Lifetime Support > "Lifetime Support Policy: Oracle Applications" (PDF)Premier Support runs for five years from a product's first release.  In the case of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11.5.10, that window was increased to six years in recognition of the challenges that some of you face in justifying major upgrades in today's economy. • After upgrading to 12.04 the scanner from Brother Printer MFC-290C does not work

  I upgraded Ubuntu to 12.04 from 11.10. The printer works, but the scanner doesn't now. In 11.10 I had to install a special driver from Brother. The printer's model is Brother MFC-290C. The computer is a Toshiba Satellite. How can I get the scanner working? Update: I have a 64-bit installation on the Toshiba Satellite. Thank you for your instructions, Chad--24216. I followed each step: 1 through 5. I also updated the Brother Linux scanner S-KEY tool.   It has been quite a long time since I posted SQL in Sixty Seconds Video. Here we are back with the new video. One of the most popular question, I often receive is very similar to following: “How do I reset the password for SA username?” “I have forgotten the SA password, what should I do?” “Our DBA just left the job and now noone knows how to reset the SA password. Please help.” Solution Honestly, it is pretty simple to reset the password for SA username. You just have to login to the system where your SQL Server is installed. Open SQL Server Management Studio and login with the help of Windows Authentication. As local system is the admin of the SQL Server, you will get access with administration privileges. Now, open the database, expand Security >> Login folder and right click over SA username. Now, it will bring up the screen where you can change the password for SA. • What happens when my domain provider cancels order after domain transfer?

  I purchased 2 domains say xyz.in and abc.com on october 2012 and I got emails that they will be expiring on oct 2013. I called my local domain provider and told him I'd like to transfer the domain from Webiq to GoDaddy to which he said I cannot unless the domain is active. He asked me to pay for both the domains, renew it and then I could transfer the domain via the domain panel. When I went to the domain panel I noticed that the order was made and so I made a transfer which happened successfully. Just as he mentioned the period of validity (1 year) for each domain got transferred to GoDaddy as well! Additionally, I added 1 year of period to both the domain via GoDaddy so both of them and also GoDaddy provided an extra free year to both these domains as I paid for the transfer on 11/10/2013 at 9:18 PM MST so both of these were stated to be valid till 2016 and that's what it showed when I did a whois lookup as well. But now it suddenly shows me that my domains are getting expired this year (and the whois also shows 2015). This is confusing as I have no idea who to blame for the missing one year. I'm wondering what would have happened say if my old domain provider's client who got my domain registered cancelled the order. Since it was no longer under their control would they still be able to deduce that one year? When I tried submitting a support request to Webiq they replied: Your domain "abc.com" has been transferred away from us on 17-11-2013 and the domain "xyz.in" was transferred away from us on 18-01-2014. There are no order cancellation actions placed. If you have any billing related issues kindly contact your parent reseller. I need some guidance on explaining what issue might have occurred or understanding how this domain control works!

• Attend my GTC sessions

  The last GTC conference in the US was 2 years ago and I was there as an attendee. You may recall from that blog post that we were running UX studies at the time. It really feels great 2 years later, to be back at GTC presenting two sessions on C++ AMP, demonstrating our progress that includes input from those early studies. If you are attending GTC (in person or virtually later), be sure to watch my two-part session. Part 1 is S0242 on Wednesday 5pm and part 2 is S0244 on Thursday 10am. Here is the shared abstract for both parts: Harnessing GPU Compute with C++ AMP C++ AMP is an open specification for taking advantage of accelerators like the GPU. In this session we will explore the C++ AMP implementation in Microsoft Visual Studio 11 Beta. After a quick overview of the technology understanding its goals and its differentiation compared with other approaches, we will dive into the programming model and its modern C++ API. This is a code heavy, interactive, two-part session, where every part of the library will be explained. • Adding graph in excel based on the content of ADFdi Table

  Often we tend to represent the data present in the table in a graphical format to give a visual impression of the data. This article would be explaining the way to achieve it using the data we have in ADFdi table of the integrated workbook. Pre-requisites: Microsoft Office 2007 JDeveloper 11.1.1.1.0 and above Assuming we are already having an ADFdi enabled workbook with a table based on an Employee table as shown in the image below. Also, add the table.download to the ribbon toolbar as menu item / as action for the startup event. From excel, we'll add a new 3D bar chart Now, we need to select the data range for the chart. We will take an example of chart based on the salary of the employees. So, the data for the X-Axis of the chart would be the Ename and the data for the Y-Axis being the salary. We can do that by right clicking on the Chart and selecting Select Data. We would select the Legend Entry Series name as the Sal header column in the table, and for the data, we select both the header row and the row below it (by holding Shift key). And, for the Category Axis, we select the Ename header row and the row below it (by holding Shift key). We can get the chart now, by running the Workbook and downloading the data into the table. This simple example can be enhanced for complex graphs by using the data from the ADFdi table to use the power of excel along with ADF Desktop Integration.

• ASP.NET Connections Spring 2012 Talks and Code

  Thank you everyone who attended my ASP.NET Connections talks last week in Las Vegas. I’ve attached the slides and code for the three talks that I delivered:   Using jQuery to interact with the Server through Ajax – In this talk, I discuss the different ways to communicate information between browser and server using Ajax. I explain the difference between the different types of Ajax calls that you can make with jQuery. I also discuss the differences between the JavaScriptSerializer, the DataContractJsonSerializer, and the JSON.NET serializer.   ASP.NET Validation In-Depth – In this talk, I distinguish between View Model Validation and Domain Model Validation. I demonstrate how you can use the validation attributes (including the new .NET 4.5 validation attributes), the jQuery Validation library, and the HTML5 input validation attributes to perform View Model Validation. I then demonstrate how you can use the IValidatableObject interface with the Entity Framework to perform Domain Model Validation.   Using the MVVM Pattern with JavaScript Views – In this talk, I discuss how you can create single page applications (SPA) by taking advantage of the open-source KnockoutJS library and the ASP.NET Web API.   Be warned that the sample code is contained in Visual Studio 11 Beta projects. If you don’t have this version of Visual Studio, then you will need to open the code samples in Notepad. Also, I apologize for getting the code for these talks posted so slowly. I’ve been down with a nasty case of the flu for the past week and haven’t been able to get to a computer.

• Interactive Reporting with BI Publisher 11G

  One of the new features that came out with BI Publisher 11G and made me really excited about is the Interactive Viewer, which allows you to interact with the data presented in the reports and gain more insights about the data. You can have as many Table, Chart, Pivot Table, Gauge components in a single report and all of them are linked together so that you can click on any data point on the components such as Chart, Pivot Table, Gauge, and that would refresh other components in the report to reflect the selection without refreshing the whole report or page. No longer you need to navigate to another report or open other reports to see related data or drill down to the detail data. It’s all there within a single report. Well, sounds cliché but really this is a typical case of ‘seeing is believing’, so instead of reading I would love you guys to take a look so I’ve recorded the following video. Please take a look !   The above video shows you the power of the BI Publisher Interactive Viewer with a real data from San Francisco Airport. The lists shown at the top or the left are one of the new features that we’ll be introducing in coming future very soon, but everything else is there with 11.1.1.3. So why not start today ? • VSDB to SSDT part 3 : command-line deployment with SqlPackage.exe, replacement for Vsdbcmd.exe

  For our continuous integration needs, we use a powershell script to handle deployment. A simpler approach would be to have a deployment task embedded within the build process. See the solution provided here by Jakob Ehn (a most interesting read which also dives into the '”deploying from Visual Studio” specifics) : http://geekswithblogs.net/jakob/archive/2012/04/25/deploying-ssdt-projects-with-tfs-build.aspx   For our needs, though, clearly separating our build phase from our deployment phase is important. It allows us to instantly deploy old versions. Also it is more convenient for continuous integration. So we stick with the powershell script approach. With VSDB projects, that script used to call the following command (the vsdbcmd executable was locally available, along with needed libraries): vsdbcmd.exe /a:Deploy /dd /cs:<CONNECTIONSTRING TO TARGET DB> /dsp:SQL /manifest:< PATH TO .deploymanifest FILE>   To be able to do the approximately same thing with a SSDT produced file (dacpac), you would call this command on a machine which has VS2012 installed (or the SSDT installed, see here : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh500335%28v=vs.103%29):   C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DAC\bin\SqlPackage.exe /Action:Publish /SourceFile:<PATH TO Database.dacpac FILE> /Profile:<PATH TO .publish.xml FILE>   And from within a powershell script :   & "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DAC\bin\SqlPackage.exe" /Action:Publish /SourceFile:<PATH TO Database.dacpac FILE> /Profile:<PATH TO .publish.xml FILE>   The command will consume a publish.xml file where the connection string and the deployment options are specified. You must be familiar with it if you have done some deployments from visual studio. If not, please refer to the above mentioned article by Jakob Ehn.   It is also possible to pass those parameters in the command line.
