  • DB2 SQL count in join or where clause

    - by Pat
This is probably an amateur question but I'm an amateur ! ;o) I have several tables: Account table, Officer table, Location table, Web table... The Officer table doesn't give me the number of officers per account. I need to retrieve only the accounts that have more than 20 officers. Should I use the COUNT ? If so, how ? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pat

  • Sprite Fallback

    - by MontyBongo
I have a number of images on a page contained within a single sprite image, these images must be contained within the single sprite due to other requirements of the site. Whilst this is working fine in most browsers I have an issue on Opera Mini where it is not rendering the sprite at all and just displaying the whole image. Is there any CSS that can be used to provide a text alternative when the browser is unable to render the sprite?

  • Total stack sizes of threads in one process

    - by David
I use pthreads_attr_getthreadsizes() to get default stack size of one thread, 8MB on my machine. But when I create 8 threads and allocate a very large stack size to them, say hundreds of MB, the program crash. So, I guess, shall ("Number of threads" x "stack size of per thread") shall less than a value(virtual memory size)?

  • C/GCC - Is it possible to sort arrays using preprocessor?

    - by psihodelia
    I have a number of very long arrays. No run-time sort is possible. It is also time consuming to sort them manually. Moreover, new elements can be added in any order later, so I would like to sort them by value using C preprocessor or maybe there is any compilers flag (GCC)? For example: sometype S[] = { {somevals, "BOB", someothervals}, {somevals, "ALICE", someothervals}, {somevals, "TIM", someothervals}, } must be sorted so: sometype S[] = { {somevals, "ALICE", someothervals}, {somevals, "BOB", someothervals}, {somevals, "TIM", someothervals}, }

  • Sending multiline message via sockets without closing the connection

    - by Yasir Arsanukaev
Hello folks. Currently I have this code of my client-side Haskell application: import Network.Socket import Network.BSD import System.IO hiding (hPutStr, hPutStrLn, hGetLine, hGetContents) import System.IO.UTF8 connectserver :: HostName -- ^ Remote hostname, or localhost -> String -- ^ Port number or name -> IO Handle connectserver hostname port = withSocketsDo $ do -- withSocketsDo is required on Windows -- Look up the hostname and port. Either raises an exception -- or returns a nonempty list. First element in that list -- is supposed to be the best option. addrinfos <- getAddrInfo Nothing (Just hostname) (Just port) let serveraddr = head addrinfos -- Establish a socket for communication sock <- socket (addrFamily serveraddr) Stream defaultProtocol -- Mark the socket for keep-alive handling since it may be idle -- for long periods of time setSocketOption sock KeepAlive 1 -- Connect to server connect sock (addrAddress serveraddr) -- Make a Handle out of it for convenience h <- socketToHandle sock ReadWriteMode -- Were going to set buffering to LineBuffering and then -- explicitly call hFlush after each message, below, so that -- messages get logged immediately hSetBuffering h LineBuffering return h sendid :: Handle -> String -> IO String sendid h id = do hPutStr h id -- Make sure that we send data immediately hFlush h -- Retrieve results hGetLine h The code portions in connectserver are from this chapter of Real World Haskell book where they say: When dealing with TCP data, it's often convenient to convert a socket into a Haskell Handle. We do so here, and explicitly set the buffering – an important point for TCP communication. Next, we set up lazy reading from the socket's Handle. For each incoming line, we pass it to handle. After there is no more data – because the remote end has closed the socket – we output a message about that. Since hGetContents blocks until the server closes the socket on the other side, I used hGetLine instead. It satisfied me before I decided to implement multiline output to client. I wouldn't like the server to close a socket every time it finishes sending multiline text. The only simple idea I have at the moment is to count the number of linefeeds and stop reading lines after two subsequent linefeeds. Do you have any better suggestions? Thanks.

  • Help with ASP.NET 4.0 routing and subfolders

    - by pixel3cs
If I use routing with 2 query parameters, like this: System.Web.Routing.RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("HomeRoute", "home/{f1}/{f2}", "~/Home.aspx"); My image does not appear on my Home.aspx page: <img src="~/img/img.jpg" /> or <img src="img/img.jpg" /> But it does appear when I access the http://localhost:3760/Website/Home.aspx URL I tried using Routing.Ignore with no luck. I look for a solution wich should work for an unlimited number of subfolders: "home/{f1}/{f2}/.../{fn}"

  • MySQL table organization and optimization (Rails)

    - by aguynamedloren
I've been learning Ruby on Rails over the past few months with no prior programming experience. Lately, I've been thinking about database optimization and table organization. I know there are great books on the subject, but I typically learn by example / as I go. Here's a hypothetical situation: Let's say I am building a social network for a niche community with 250,000 members (users). The users have the ability to attend events. Let's say there are 50,000 past/present/future events. Much like Facebook events, a user can attend any number of events and an event can have any number of attendees. In the database, there would be a table for users and a table for events. Somehow I would have to create an association between the users and events. I could create an "events" column in the users table such that each user row would contain a hash of event IDs, or I could create an "attendees" column in the events table such that each event row would contain a hash of user IDs. Neither of these solutions seem ideal, however. On a users profile page, I want to display the list of events they are associated with, which would require scanning the 50,000 event rows for the user ID of said user if I include an "attendees" column in the events table. Likewise, on an event page, I want to display a list of attendees for the event, which would require scanning the 250,000 user rows for the event ID of said event if I include an "events" column in the users table. Option 3 would be to create a third table that contains the attendee information for each and every event - but I don't see how this would solve any problems. Are these non-issues? Rails makes accessing all of this information easy, but I guess I'm worried about scale. It is entirely possible that I am under-estimating the speed and processing power of modern databases / servers / etc. How long would it take to scan 250,000 user rows for specific event IDs - 10ms? 100ms? 1,000ms? I guess that's not that bad. Am I just over-thinking this?

  • fake python modules via symlinks: on windows?

    - by eudoxos
I have several compiled python modules; they are put into a single .so (to avoid runtime linking, there are cross-module symbol dependencies), but a number of symlinks points to this .so: libfoo.so -> liball.so libbar.so -> liball.so liball.so This way, I can do import foo (Python will call initfoo() defined in liball.so) or import bar (calls initbar()). I am wondering if this approach will work on Windows?

  • Are hash collisions with different file sizes just as likely as same file size?

    - by rwmnau
I'm hashing a large number of files, and to avoid hash collisions, I'm also storing a file's original size - that way, even if there's a hash collision, it's extremely unlikely that the file sizes will also be identical. Is this sound (a hash collision is equally likely to be of any size), or do I need another piece of information (if a collision is more likely to also be the same length as the original). Or, more generally: Is every file just as likely to produce a particular hash, regardless of original file size?

  • Passcode functionality for iPhone app?

    - by David Liu
I was thinking about putting in PIN number functionality within my iPhone app (various examples can be seen here http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=5956 ), but I was kinda stumped how to go about it. Should I just go with a hidden textfield and simulate the inputs with images?

  • Do I need to check capacity before adding an element to a vector in c++ ?

    - by Cassie
Hi dear all, I am a newbie to c++ STL vectors so sorry for silly questions in advence. :) In my program, I have a vector which needs to store unknown number of elements. Do I have to check if the vector has achieved its max_size before adding an new element to it ? Will a c++ compiler throw an exception automatically when a program tries to add elements to a full vector ? Thank you very much, Cassie

  • What is the best way to handle this type of inclusive logic in Ruby?

    - by Steve McLelland
Is there a better way of handling this in Ruby, while continuing to use the symbols? pos = :pos1 # can be :pos2, :pos3, etc. if pos == :pos1 || pos == :pos2 || pos == :pos3 puts 'a' end if pos == :pos1 || pos == :pos2 puts 'b' end if pos == :pos1 puts 'c' end The obvious way would be swapping out the symbols for number constants, but that's not an option. pos = 3 if pos >= 1 puts 'a' end if pos >= 2 puts 'b' end if pos >= 3 puts 'c' end Thanks.

  • Running a python script on all the files in a directory.

    - by S1syphus
I have a Python script that reads through a text csv file and creates a playlist file. However I can only do one at a time, like: python playlist.py foo.csv foolist.txt However, I have a directory of files that need to be made into a playlist, with different names, and sometimes a different number of files. So far I have looked at creating a txt file with a list of all the names of the file in the directory, then loop through each line of that, however I know there must be an easier way to do it.
