  I am trying to make a program that will find similar images from a dataset of images. The steps are 1)extract SURF descriptors for all images 2)store the descriptors 3)Apply knn on the stored descriptors 4)Match the stored descriptors to the query image descriptor using KNN Now each images SURF descriptor will be stored as Hierarchical k means tree, now do I store each tree as a separate file or is it possible to build some sort of single tree with all the images descriptors and updated as images are added to dataset.   I have just updated to using EF 4.0 where before i was using Linq 2 SQL. I have a query: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); This was generating an error: "A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type" This prompted this code which worked fine in L2S: var UserList = this.repository.GetUsers(); foreach (User u in UserList){ u.Subscriptions = null; } return Json(UserList, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet); How can i stop EF from looking into the Subscriptions table, i just want the Userlist, none of the related properties and the above example does not seem to work for this.   Given an account with a list of transactions I would like to output a query that shows each transaction with the rolling balance (just like you would see on an online banking account). However, I have Services which call Repositories and didn't really want to put the sproc call in the Repository.

• AJAX form sections - how to pass url of next stage of form

  Hi, I've got a multi-part form (in a PHP MVC setup) which I have working correctly without javascript enhancement. I'm starting to add the AJAX form handling code which will handle each stage of a form submission, validating/saving data etc, before using AJAX to load the next stage of the form. I'm wondering how best to pass the URL of the next stage to the current form being processed, so that my jQuery form handling code can process the current form, then load the next part via AJAX. The form "action" is different from what the url of the next stage of the form is - what do you think would be good practice here? I was thinking about either appending the url of the next stage to the form action url, via a query string - then just use javascript to extract this url when the form is successfully processed. The other option is via a hidden form element. Not sure what other client side options I have here Any thoughts?

  Hi Team, I have an interesting database design problem that I formulated while travelling by a bus, coming back from my home. Design a normalized database for a bus ticketing system (not reservation system). In each trip, the conductor of the bus will give tickets to its passengers after collecting fare from them. Passengers travel from a various source places to various destination places. The system must be able to give a report of the places for which the number of passengers was more than 2. Suppose the stops for the bus are L1,L2, L3 and L4 Suppose passenger P1 travels from L1 to L4. P2 travels from L2 to L4. P3 travels from L3 to L4. The report should list only (L3-L4) for which it has more than 2 travelers. Can you please help me to solve the following problems 1) Design a normalized database 2) Write a query for the report 3) Is there any site that gives these kinds of interesting database design questions and answers? • utf-8 convertion doesn't work always

  I searched into other stack before to type here and I didn't find anythong similar. I have to scrape different utf-8 webpages which contain text like "Oggi è una bellissima giornata" the problem is on the characther "è" I extract this text with jtidy and xpath query expression and I convert it with byte[] content = filteredEncodedString.getBytes("utf-8"); String result = new String(content,"utf-8"); where filteredEncodedString contains the text "Oggi è una bellissima giornata". This procedures works on the most webpages analyzed so far but in some case it doesn't extract a utf-8 string. Page encoding is always the same as the text is similar. Any ideas about the problem? thanks Marco

  HI, Currently i have one big datacontex with 35 tables (i dragged all my DB tables to the designer). I must admit it is very comfortable cause i have ORM to my full DB and query with linq is easy and simple. My questions are: 1. Would you consider it bad design to have one datacontext with 35 tables or should i split it to logic units? 2. Is there any performance penalties for using such a big datacontext? Thanks, Pini.

• Unable to return large result set ORA-22814

  Hello All I am encountering an issue when I am trying to load a large result set using a range query in Oracle 10g. When I try a smaller range (1 to 100), it works but when I try a larger range(1 and 1000), I get the following error "ORA-22814: attribute or element value is larger than specified in type" error. I have a basic UDT (PostComments_Type) and I have tried using both a VArray and a Table type of PostComments_Type but that hasn't made a difference. • How to search for a string including spaces in Objective C?

  I have a real basic command-line program, in Objective-C, that searches for user inputed information. Unfourtunately, the code will only read the first word in series of words that the user enters. For example, if the user enters in "Apples are great", only "Apples" is kept (and hence searched later on), excluding the "are great" part of the sentence. • Excel can't remember how to copy/paste

  So, maybe someone else has an idea why this happens. I have a full-fledged version of Office 2007, works fine and all that jazz. However, if I try to copy and paste query results from SSMS, or anywhere else for that matter, I have to have an instance of Excel open and then paste. I can't copy, open Excel, and then paste. The little 'wait' circle pops up for a split second but nothing is pasted. I have never ran across this with any other program. Any good explanation for this? FFIW, it's Excel 2007 running in compatibility mode.

• Anyway to find out the current Windows is in lock mode?

  I have a windows application written in VS 2005. The application makes queries against to sql database in a timer cycle every 2 minutes. If there any data changes, the window will be refreshed with new data. If the user leaves the window, the windows will be automatically locked after a while. There is no sense to keep querying data in ever 2 minutes when the windows is locked; therefore I would like to stop the query when lock is on so that the network data trafic will be reduced and also saves the current windows resources such as memory and CPUs. I am not sure if there is any way to find out the current windows is locked? Not sure if there is any Windows APIs for this purpose if no .Net classes available? My project is in .Net 2.0 and all users are in Windows XP.

  I am getting the date from my mysql database and that date is correct but when I use the date() function the minute part is stuck a 6 minutes. My mysql is returning 2010-06-15 09:59:18 Then in php I use this code: date('M d,Y H:m A',strtotime($row[4])) ** $row[4] is from my while loop ** When I echo this out I get: Jun 15,2010 9:06 AM I also have tried converting it to unix timestamp in my sql query, does the same thing. I noticed that the hours work and the seconds work but the minutes are stuck at 6. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

  I am writing a SQL query to retrive data from a table between two dates. I give two inputs as shown. I convert the Date TO_CHAR(DD/MON/YYYY). 1. StartDate > 01/SEP/2009 EndDate < 01/OCT/2009 2. StartDate > 01/SEP/2009 EndDate < 1/OCT/2009 I dont get any result for the first input. When I change it to second one i get the result. What is the difference between 01/OCT/2009 1/OCT/2009

The two fields of importance are CompetitionID ParentCompetitionID Some data might be CompetitionID=1, ParentCompetitionID=null CompetitionID=2, ParentCompetitionID=1 CompetitionID=3, ParentCompetitionID=1 The broken query I have simply displays results in a flat format. Seeing that I'm working with XML, some sort of recursive functionality is required. I can do this using recursion, but would like to see the linq version. Some scripts are easily tracked to specific projects, whereas others are "convenience" functions created to serve a set of tasks. Is there a way I can create a central DB and query it to find which scripts match most appropriately? I could create a system using a DBMS manually, but are users aware of anything in general or specific to R, that comes in the form of a software tool (maybe FOSS) ?

• Get Distance from geohash field in solr 3.6

  Is it possible to get distance returned from a geodist() filter, on a geohash field that has multiple values? The geosort and the geodist filter are working fine, but I'm trying to get the distance between the query point and a location that was returned in the result. I've tried http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SpatialSearch#Returning_the_distance The second method which is : //localhost:8983/solr/select?indent=true&fl=name,store&sfield=store&pt=45.15,-93.85&sort=score%20asc&q={!func}geodist() But it returns weird results, tested with 2 locations it returns score 9979.032, where there is ~33,000 Km between both points in reality? What is the unit that it uses returning the distance in the score field? I assumed km, but it does not make sense, or the result is bogus, I dunno Anyhelp would be appreciated, thanks

  I have a table of phone numbers, storing the phone number as varchar(20). I have a requirement to implement searching of both entire numbers, but also on only the last part of the number, so a typical query will be: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE Number LIKE '%1234' How can I put an index on the Number column to make those searchs efficient? Is there a way to create an index that sorts the records on the reversed string? Another option might be to reverse the numbers before storing them, which will give queries like: SELECT * FROM PhoneNumbers WHERE ReverseNumber LIKE '4321%' However that will require all users of the database to always reverse the string. It might be solved by storing both the normal and reversed number and having the reversed number being updated by a trigger on insert/update. But that kind of solution is not very elegant. Any other suggestions?

• Linq To SQL: Retain list order when using .Contains

  I'm using Lucene.net to build a MyListOfIds As List(Of Integer) which I then pass on to my Linq service. I then search the database as follows Return _EventRepository.Read().Where(Function(e) MyListOfIds.Contains(e.ID)).ToList Now I know that Lucene is already ordering MyListOfIds based on the weight it gave each term. What sucks is that Linq is losing that order in it's SQL search. My Question: How can I retain that sort order when building my Lambda expression? I tried using LINQPad to see how the query is being built, but because I had to declare a variable LINQPad didn't show me the resultant SQL :-( Here's what I tried in LINQPad Dim i As New List(Of Integer) i.Add(1) i.Add(100) i.Add(15) i.Add(3) i.Add(123) Dim r = (From e In Events Where i.Contains(e.ID) Select e) note: my example is in VB.NET, but I don't mind if responses are in C#

  Hey, I want to add a parameter to a URL but currently it isnt showing in the $_GET global. A snippet from my htaccess file is as below: RewriteRule ^account/blogs/([0-9]+)/([^\s?]+)/?$ /account/blog.php?blogId=$1 [L,QSA] Then in my php code i want to add a link such as: /account/blogs/1/ThisIsWhereTheTitleGoes?delete=1 The wildcard (any char but space) option is for the blog title as i never know what it would be. I know want to add a query string param on the end such as ?delete=1. I however dont want this as part of the rewrite. Does anybody know how to so this? Thanks

  I have a table with: id | parameter 1 | A 1 | B 2 | A 3 | A 3 | B That represent objects defined with the values as: 1 -> A,B 2 -> A 3 -> A,B I want to count the number of objects with different parameters using a SQL query, so in this case it would be 2 unique objects as 1 and 3 have the same parameters. The database is a Microsoft SQL Server 2000. But I do not mind knowing the solution for other databases.

• Random select is not always returning a single row.

  The intention of following (simplified) code fragment is to return one random row. Unfortunatly, when we run this fragment in the query analyzer, it returns between zero and three results. As our input table consists of exactly 5 rows with unique ID's and as we perform a select on this table where ID equals a random number, we are stumped that there would ever be more than one row returned. Note: among other things, we already tried casting the checksum result to an integer with no avail.   I am trying to create an Entity SQL that is a union of two sub-queries. (SELECT VALUE DISTINCT ROW(e.ColumnA, e.ColumnB, 1 AS Rank) FROM Context.Entity AS E WHERE ...) UNION ALL (SELECT VALUE DISTINCT ROW(e.ColumnA, e.ColumnB, 2 AS Rank) FROM Context.Entity AS E WHERE ...) ORDER BY *??* LIMIT 50 I have tried: ORDER BY Rank and ORDER BY e.Rank but I keep getting: System.Data.EntitySqlException: The query syntax is not valid. Near keyword 'ORDER' I do not think it is a problem with the Rank column. I do think it is how I am trying to apply an order by to two different esql statements joined by union all. Could someone suggest: How to apply a ORDER BY to this kind of UNION/UNION ALL statment How to order by the non-entity column expression. Thanks.
