• How to build a java applet?

  Most of the tutorials around explain how to create a java applet: create a .java file with a class, compile it with javac, put the .class somewhere, add a proper tag in the html. However, I'm not able to find anything about the best practices to build and release a complex applet, made of multiple classes and with additional libraries. How is the build/release process for this case ? What is it needed to go from my java project to the final .jar to put on the web ? I'm working with pure Eclipse, no plugins.

  Some file read (readlines()) functions in Python copy the file contents to memory (as a list) I need to process a file that's too large to be copied in memory and as such need to use a file pointer (to access the file one byte at a time) -- as in C getc(). The additional requirement I have is that I'd like to rewind the file pointer to previous bytes like in C ungetc(). Is there a way to do this in Python? Also, in Python, I can read one line at a time with readline() Is there a way to read the previous line going backward?

I have also put them in system32. • Handling update errors in multiple records in the TClientDataset's ReconcileError method

  I'm trying to use the ReconcileError event to allow the user to correct the data after an update error which occurred in a specific record among others. Example: I have a dataset with one field and 3 records, this field have a unique constraint on the database, then I change one value to conflict when it reaches the database, then I call ApplyUpdates on the Dataset. This will generate an error (violation of unique constraint) in the provider and abort the applyupdates process, returning raAbort in the Action var of the ReconcileError method. In the ReconcileError method I tryied to use: Action := HandleReconcileError(aDataSet, UpdateKind, E); ** EDIT ** After debugging and dumping the DataSet records which were returned from the server, I noticed that there are 2 records in this Dataset, the first is the Old record and the second have all the changes I made to the first record. I'm a bit confused, will I always get this DataSet with 2 records? I thought that it should have only one record with the Old/New values. Thanks.

• Building a Universal iPad App - Where is the device recognition code?

  I noticed that when I create a new project in XCode for a Universal iPad/iPhone application, the template comes with two separate App Delegate files, one for each device. I can't seem to locate the place in code where it tries to decide which app delegate to use. I have an existing iPhone project I'd like to port to iPad. My thinking was that if I went ahead and designed the iPad project, I could just import my iPhone classes and nibs, and then use the App Delegate and UIDevice to decide which MainWindow.xib to load. The process went like this: Create an iPad project coded as a split-view create brand new classes and nibs for the iPad import iPhone classes and nibs Change build/target settings in accordance with Universal Apps Use [[UIDevice currentDevice] model] in the AppDelegate to decide which MainWindow to load Will this work, or does the app just automatically know which device it's being deployed on? • Test assembly code on a mac

  Hello, A while back I was following some tutorials an assembly. I was running it all on a windows machine, compiling with NASM and then writing the compiled code to a floppy disk, then reboot and try the code. This process was long and time consuming and sadly was not on a mac. When I found out that Xcode for mac installed NASM I immediately tried to compile some code. The code compiled fine. The issue is testing it. On a mac I have no floppy (not like I want to use one) so Im not sure how to test this. I looked in to Q (kju) and found it would only emulate things on an ISO file. So I guess what Im asking is is it possible to install the compiled code on an ISO file for testing? (Note: the code when compiled forms a .bin file) Thanks for any help

  I've got a flex/air app I've been working on, it uses a local sqlite database that is created on the initial application start. I've added some features to the application and in the process I had to add a new field to one of the database tables. My questions is how to I go about getting the application to create one new field that is located in a table that already exists? this is a the line that creates the table stmt.text = "CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tbl_status ("+"status_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT,"+" status_status TEXT)"; And now I'd like to add a status_default field. thanks! • Starting to make progress Was [MediaRecorder prepare() causes segfault]

  Folks, I have a situation where my MediaRecorder instance causes a segfault. I'm working with a HTC Hero, Android 1.5+APIs. I've tried all variations, including 3gpp and H.263 and reducing the video resolution to 320x240. What am I missing? The state machine causes 4 MediaPlayer beeps and then turns on the video camera. Here's the pertinent source: UPDATE: ADDING SURFACE CREATE INFO I have rebooted the device based on previous answer to similar question. UPDATE 2: I seem to be following the MediaRecorder state machine perfectly, and if I trap out the MR code, the blank surface displays perfectly and everything else functions perfectly. I can record videos manually and play back via MediaPlayer in my code, so there should be nothing wrong with the underlying code. I've copied sample code on the surface and surfaceHolder code. I've looked at the MR instance in the Debug perspective in Eclipse and see that all (known) variables seem to be instantiated correctly. The setter calls are all now implemented in the exaxct order specced in the state diagram. UPDATE 3: I've tried all permission combinations: CAMERA + RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO, CAMERA only, RECORD_AUDIO+RECORD_VIDEO This is driving me bats! :))) UPDATE 4: starting to work... but with puzzling results. Based on info in bug #5050, I spaced everything out. I have now gotten the recorder to actually save a snippet of video (a whole 2160 bytes!), and I did it by spacing the view visibility, prepare() and start() w.a.a.a.a.a.y out (like several hundred milliseconds for each step). I think what happens is that either bringing the surface VISIBLE has delayed processing or else the start() steps on the prepare() operation before it is complete. What is now happening, however, is that my simple timer tickdown counter is getting clobbered. Is it now that the preview and save operations are causing my main process thread to become unavailable? I'm recording only 10fps at 176x144. Referencing the above code, I've added a timer tickdown after setPreviewDisplay(), prepare() and start().   I have a multi-user software solution (containing different applications, i.e. EXEs) that should allow only a limited number of concurrent users. It's designed to run in an intranet. I dont have a really good, satisfactory solution to the problem of counting the client licenses yet. The key requirements are: Multiple instances (starts) of the same application (= process) should count as only one client licence Starting different applications of the software solution should also count as only one (the same) client licence Application crash should not lead to orphaned used licences The above should work also for Terminal Server environments (all clients same IP, but different install folders) I'm looking for estabilished patterns, solutions, tips for managing used client licenses. Specific hints for the above sitaution are also welcome.

• ruby rails loop causes server freeze

  Hi all: I am working on a Ruby on Rails project on Windows. I have Ruby 1.86 and Rails 2.35 installed. Everything is fine until I tried to implement a comet process. I have the following code written to respond to a long poll javascript request. But everytime this function is called, it will hang the whole rails server, no second request can get in, until the timeout. (I know there is juggernaut, but I like to implement one myself first :) Is this due to my server setup? • Current date in rails form

  Hi, Im learning rails and exploring a bit away from the book and creating a simple application with added functionality as i increase my knowledge. Im writing a simple blog application and i have a field in the form called date added, i don't want this to be a field i want it to get the date from the server and place it in to the database automatically. How would i go about doing this? I was thinking of a hidden field but then unsure on how to process the date and insert it to the hidden field. Is this the wrong way of going about things?   I am looking for a free static checker for C99 code (including GCC extensions) with the ability to explicitly say "these preprocessor macros are always defined." I need that last part because I am compiling embedded code for a single target processor. The compiler (Microchip's C32, GCC based) sets a macro based on the selected processor, which is then used in the PIC32 header files to select a processor-specific header file to include. cppcheck therefore fails because it detects the 30 different #ifdefs used to select one of the many possible PIC32 processors, tries to analyse all possible combinations of these plus all other #defines, and fails. For example, if splint could process C99 code, I would use splint -D__PIC32_FEATURE_SET__=460 -D__32MX460F512L__ \ -D__LANGUAGE_C__ -I/path/to/my/includes source.c

  I have a case where I want a given event to execute once, and only once. I'm trying to do it this way, but I'm having prolems (else I wouldn't be asking). Note that the following code is inside the function that decides that the event needs to be fired. EventHandler h = delegate(Object sender, EventArgs e) { FiringControl.TheEvent -= h; // <-- Error, use of unassigned local variable "h" // Do stuff } FiringControl.TheEvent += h; In general this should work because of the way scope is preserved for delegates until after they're done running, but, since h is in the process of being built when I try to use it it is still considered to be "uninitialized", apparently.

  I am working on a website in PHP where people can make comments similar to a blog, and I only want particular tags to be allowed. Are there any pre-built libraries that process comments and produce valid XHTML Strict code? I would need to do this in JavaScript so I can generate a live preview like Stack Overflow, plus in PHP before saving it to a MySQL database. The allowed HTML tags will be: strong, em, blockquote, and links (rel=nofollow not required) One way would be to allow people to directly enter the HTML into the comment field but I would prefer to use a simple mark up something like this (can be different - this is an example): *strong* _em_ [blockquote] http://www.link.com I want line breaks to be converted to <br />. • Complex String Processing - well complex to me

  I am calling a web service and all I get back is a giant blob of text. I am left to process it myself. Problem is not all lines are necessarily the same. They each have 2 or 3 sections to them and they are similar. Here are the most common examples text1 [text2] /text3/ text1/test3 text1[text2]/text3 text1 [text2] /text /3 here/ I am not exactly sure how to approach this problem. I am not too good at doing anything advanced as far as manipulating strings. I was thinking using a regular expression might work, but not too sure on that either. If I can get each of these 3 sections broken up it is easier from there to do the rest. its just there doesn't seem to be any uniformity to the main 3 sections that I know how to work with.

  I am using an example from iDesign about one way calls. I can get it to work on a Vista machine (VS2008) but not on a windows 7 machine (VS2010). I get this error: HTTP could not register URL http://+:8001/MyService/. Your process does not have access rights to this namespace ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(MyService)); host.Open(); I get the error on the host.Open(); line. I noticed that windows asks first for some firewall and to give permission which I did but still it is not working. What can I do?

  I'm working on a project where we collect payments from users using credit/debit/PayPal payments. The service is taking payments from users on behalf of a 3rd party organisation. Once we take the payment, minus fees, we want to transfer the amount to the organisations bank account. For now, what we can do is pay the organisation using Online Banking BACS bank transfer. But I would like to know if there is a way to do this automatically using an API. If we need to somehow register the 3rd parties bank account details before making transfers, this is fine. We just want to automate the whole process, since at the moment the transfer is a manual step. Are there any gateways or APIs I can use for this? In the UK?

  Something is failing in the class I copied over. It's not my class, but the relevant bit that fails is: class foo { function process() { ob_start( array( &$this, 'parseTemplate' ) ); } function parseTemplate(){} } Does anyone know what the ob_start expression is supposed to do? Call the parse_template method in the context of a copy of &$this? PHP Version is 5.3.2-1. I suspect that the class was coded for 5.0-5.2 and it breaks in 5.3? or could it be something else?

• Does throwing an exception in an EvalFunc pig UDF skip just that line, or stop completely?

  I have a User Defined Function (UDF) written in Java to parse lines in a log file and return information back to pig, so it can do all the processing. It looks something like this: public abstract class Foo extends EvalFunc<Tuple> { public Foo() { super(); } public Tuple exec(Tuple input) throws IOException { try { // do stuff with input } catch (Exception e) { throw WrappedIOException.wrap("Error with line", e); } } } My question is: if it throws the IOException, will it stop completely, or will it return results for the rest of the lines that don't throw an exception? Example: I run this in pig REGISTER myjar.jar DEFINE Extractor com.namespace.Extractor(); logs = LOAD '$IN' USING TextLoader AS (line: chararray); events = FOREACH logs GENERATE FLATTEN(Extractor(line)); With this input: 1.5 7 "Valid Line" 1.3 gghyhtt Inv"alid line"" I throw an exceptioN!! 1.8 10 "Valid Line 2" Will it process the two lines and will 'logs' have 2 tuples, or will it just die in a fire?
