• UrlRewriter.Net with URL with final dot

  I want to use UrlRewriter.Net as described in this blog by ScottGu. In the example below, page.aspx should display a page text stored in the database based on the title= URL parameter. After a couple of tweaks the only remaining issue seems to be that a final dot in the URL causes a 404 a sequence of two dots in the URL causes a 400 Windows 7, IIS 7 with Integrated AppPool, VS2008. Looking at the Failed Request Log, it seems that the UrlRewriter module is called after retrieving the request handler. Can these two issues be fixed, or is there a better replacement for UrlRewriter? (A related question only asks about the 404) Edit: This behavior can even be reproduced on SO, so maybe there is no work-around?

  Hi, We use the asp.net UpdatePanel and the ScriptManager/ScriptManagerProxy for ajax related functionality; reducing full page refreshes and calling WCF Services respectively. we also use jQuery and plugins for some parts of the UI. We have had some issues with javascript library related conflicts, but have come across some posts indicating that there is a lot more overhead using the UpdatePanel. I have found some limited reference to UFrame: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/uframe.aspx www.codeplex.com/uframe Is this a commercially viable replacement for the asp.net UpdatePanel? We use a ScriptManagerProxy to reference WCF services and easily create and use a proxy to call the various WCF service methods. Would using jQuery ajax be a more efficient solution here? We have got this working well on various browsers but now seem to be getting some security related issues (as seen in FF Firebug: Access to restricted URI denied" code: "1012) which seem to have started since using jQuery a lot more. Is it possible/viable to not use ASP.NET Ajax at all?

  I have a website (not a web application- in visual studio you get two options-create a website/project) running on IIS 6.0. Now I want to develop few features in MVC architecture. So I created one MVC application in visual studio and everything is working fine on localhost as a separate application. Now I want to host this MVC app also inside the website I have already deployed. I created a virtual directory(MVCDir) inside the default website in IIS 6.0. • How to override HTML <FONT SIZE="2"> with CSS

  I was given the task of doing a facelift to our current site. I am moderately well versed in CSS so I am converting the bazillion tags to CSS styles and deleting about 2 times that many that were simply not necessary. It's all going well until I run into a certain product page that is only a wrapper into which other HTML files are pulled by a server.execute(filename) command. (we're using aspx for the wrapper page.) There are almost 700 of these pages and they all are cursed with this and that. Past editors with FrontPage that only know how to drag pretty things on the screen. Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way to use CSS in the wrapper page to override the tag behavior so I can make it something sane that fits with the rest of my pages. I'd even be open to something JavaScript that would remove the tags, but that's my less preferred solution. Thanks!

  Im looking for a nice demo/sample using Windows Mobile Managed Gestures. I have a main view that contains a single panel. Every item in the panel is another panel containing pictureBox and a label. I would like to implement scrooling (finger flicking) to avoid using thin scroolers. Are the Windows Mobile Managed Gestures the right solution to get this working, if so can some one provide me with a begginers demo? I downloaded the source code from http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/gestureswm/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=3438 but i would need a simple example using this source. Also a question ... does this work only on 6.5? Even if i got this working is there a way to support this in 6.0 ? thanx!

• MS Access (2010) Enable Design View

Things I've tried: 1) In options/options/current database/ the check boxes (enable layout view & enable design changes for tables in Datasheet view) are both greyed out. 2) I've unblocked the file using Right-Click-Properties. 3) I've tried copying/exporting the objects to another database. But can only copy/export the tables. 4) I've tried holding shift when opening the DB. 5) Enabling all trust permissions etc. None of these work Does anybody have any suggestions. (I'm using Office 2010) Thanks

  Hi, I have a CMS application that manages multiple websites, today whenever i change the codebehind of one of these websites - i have to rebuild the dll for all websites, deploy it - this disconnects all current sessions and is really bad. The iis is configured to listen to all domain requests, if the request is to one of the websites' domain , the application rewrites it, or example, if someone requests for http://www.example.com, and example.com is configured in the application to be website 12, it is rewritten to http://www.example.com/websites/12/default.aspx. This is done for all websites. We want to seperate the dlls of the websites from each other, and from the main CMS, we have a virtual directory to each websites, but when trying to rewrite to it, we discover that IIS support this (we get an "Could not load type '_12._Default'". error). How can we perform this rewrite so it does rewrite to virtual directories, or if anyone has any other solution for the initial dll seperation problem. Thanks in advance

• Problem with ASP.NET MVC DropDownList not displaying selected value

  I have an aspx page which allows me to edit articles. Among things I can edit is which category the article belongs to. The category is chosen through a DropDownList as shown here, <%= Html.DropDownList("categoryID", (IEnumerable<SelectListItem>)ViewData["CategoryID"], new { @class = "textbox" }) %> However, the articles category isn't selected when I go to that page. The ViewData I use for the DropDownList looks like this, ViewData["CategoryID"] = new SelectList(categories, "CategoryID", "Title", article.CategoryID); Which should select the article.CategoryID as it's selected value. Have I done this wrong?

  I have tried to use some of the widgets in JQuery UI on an Asp.Net MVC site without luck. For example the basic datepicker from jQuery UI - functional demos.   Can I do a redirect to a custom page in an HttpModule? I have an HttpModule A which executes some javascript code when any aspx page is loaded. I would like to have a server side code check to see if the clients browsers supports cookies. Can I place that code in the HttpModule A? If so, in which event? Or do I need to have a new HttpHandler for both purposes? Also, is it possible to check for cookies in an HttpModule(without a response.redirect)? All solutions I have seen need 2 pages, 1 for setting the cookie and the other for checking if the cookie has actually been created. I am hoping there should be a way to check for cookies at one place. Thanks in advance

• How to add a Page to Frame using code in WPF

  I have a Window where I have put a Frame. I would like to add a Page to the Frame when I click a button that is also on the Window but not in the Frame. There are several buttons in the Window and each click on a button should load a different Page in the Frame. Since I'm a total newbie on this WPF stuff it's quite possible that this approach is not the best and I have thought about replacing the Frame with a Canvas and then make UserControls instead of Pages that will be added to the Canvas. I welcome any ideas and suggestions on how to best solve this. I aiming for a functionality that is similar to the application Billy Hollis demonstrated in dnrtv episode 115. • How to cancel a web service call if it's not responding

  Hi, I have a web page (.aspx) that calls a third party web service to get some data. It usually takes couple of seconds to get the response back, and then the rest of the page will load. Occasionally the call gets stuck either due to the web service is down, or internet connection, etc., the page just hang there and will not load. My questions is: 1) Is there a way to abort/cancel the web service call after a set amount of time? 2) Is it even possible to verify the status of the web service before calling it? Thanks.

• Watin ContainsText method fails to find text in FireFox

  The ContainsText method finds the text only in specific area in the html but fails to find id in other parts of the page. I need to know how to go about testing this with Rhino Mocks e.g. how to instantiate a new ControlMediaElementAction in test code and then call the Invoke method etc. Doing something simple like this in test code: mMediaElementControlBehaviour = new ControlMediaElementAction (); gives me an exception "The type initializer for 'System.Windows.DependencyObject' throw an exception. Thinking it was the instantiation of the MediaElement, I tried this two lines of code: MediaElement mediaElementStub = MockRepository.GenerateStub(); this.Container.RegisterInstance(mediaElementStub); This gave the exception 'Can't create mocks of sealed classes' If someone can point me in the right direction, it would be apreciated. • ValidateInput Attribute Doesn't Seem To Work in ASP.NET MVC

  I'm trying to get around the "potentially dangerous Request.Form value" error and I'm having no luck. Yes, yes, I've read all the other StackOverflow related questions and none of them seem to get me closer to an answer. I am using [ValidateInput(false)] on all related controller actions...and I've checked many times. I'm using ValidateRequest='false' in all the related ASPX views. I am using ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 1, but I don't think that's an issue since the error is being generated lower in the framework; Page.ProcessRequest to be exact. I can't see anything I'm doing wrong, I even set <page validateRequest='false'> in the web.config and that didn't solve it either. HELP!!!!!

  I have my UserControls in a ~/Controls folder in my solution: /Controls/TheControl.ascx If specify the following: <a runat="server" href="./?pg=1">link text</a> ASP.Net seems to want to rewrite the path to point to the absolute location. For example, If the control is on site.com/products/fish/cans.aspx the link href will be rewritten to read <a href="../../Controls/?pg=1>link text</a> Why does Asp.Net rewrite these control paths, and is there an elegant way to fix it? I just want the anchor control to spit out exactly what I tell it to!!! Is that so hard?

• Redirecting user from an old web to another in Sharepoint

  Hi all: I want to add the ability to redirect users when they visit certain old sites. The URL of the old sites are unknown, but the server name is the same, e.g. Old site url: http://sharepoint/mySite/default.aspx New site url: http://sharepoint/myNewSite/... There are a lot of other pages within mySite, most of which must be redirected to the new site, but there are exceptions (e.g. user can still view the documents within the site). I thought I have to do this programmatically by somehow capturing the http request and read the url myself. Being no sharepoint guru, I had a quick google, and found that writing a web part is prehaps the best alternative for my situation. But I'm just wondering, given my situation and needs, is writing a web part, or something programmatically, really the ideal solution? Or is there a faster and quicker way to achieve what I want using Sharepoint? Thanks.
