• asp.net C# uploading big file and processing it

  I want to be able to upload file from my .aspx page to my web server so that it can be preocessed into a different format. e.g. user will upload a doc and in few seconds it would see a pdf version of the doc on the web page. I have web service available which can convert doc to pdf. now 1- how do i automate upload + conversion process. 2- how do i handle big files here. 3- how not to make user wait for all this thing to happen.

  Why doesn't Microsoft release a 'proper' AJAX grid for ASP.Net either as part of Visual Studio or the AJAX control toolkit? Has there been any discussion that anyone is aware of regarding this issue? Also does anyone have any open source suggestions for 'proper' AJAX gridviews?   I want to develop a StringConverter with standard values, which after attaching it to a PropertyGrid will act like comboBox with autocompletion. The example below will give me a comboBox, but without the autocompletion - user have to expand it and choose manually one of the items. Concerns: * My goal is to pull up to 100 items at a time and send them as a batch to the next step. * If I use a ConcurrentQueue, I have to manually cause it to go asleep when there is no work to be done. • C#: Efficiently search a large string for occurences of other strings

  Hi, I'm using C# to continuously search for multiple string "keywords" within large strings, which are = 4kb. This code is constantly looping, and sleeps aren't cutting down CPU usage enough while maintaining a reasonable speed. The bog-down is the keyword matching method. I've found a few possibilities, and all of them give similar efficiency. 1) http://tomasp.net/articles/ahocorasick.aspx -I do not have enough keywords for this to be the most efficient algorithm. 2) Regex. Using an instance level, compiled regex. -Provides more functionality than I require, and not quite enough efficiency. 3) String.IndexOf. -I would need to do a "smart" version of this for it provide enough efficiency. Looping through each keyword and calling IndexOf doesn't cut it. Does anyone know of any algorithms or methods that I can use to attain my goal?

  I've setup and deployed a simple forms authentication website with membership using .NET 4. I've created a virtual directory (now converted to "Application") in IIS7 and setup the web.config file in the virtual directory as follows: <system.webServer> <directoryBrowse enabled="true" /> </system.webServer> Great! I browse to the virtual directory: ../mydomain/books/ and I'm automatically redirected to the login page specified by web.config in my root directory and the url path is placed as follows: ../Account/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fbooks At this point, I login succesfully, but I am not redirected anywhere, and when I manually return to the directory, ../books, I'm sent back to the login page, where I'm already logged in? So I'm confused about what my problem is! I should be successfully authenticated, and than redirected back to the directory, or at the very least be able to view it manually after I log in right?

  Hi, Is there a pattern OR 'a best practice' on creating user's friendly messages in the presentation layer by using exceptions which were thrown from the Business Layer? Actually in many cases I prefer to throw Application Exceptions and this is forcing me to catch them on UI (aspx.cs pages). And if the process is complex which may produce many different types of exceptions I have to have many catch blocks to produce specific error messages. Is there a better way coming to your mind? A pattern maybe for similar cases? thanks

• IE6 image scaling with bicubic filter

  I have a project where I have to resize some images in the actual browser side. IE8, FF3 et al all apply a filter to smooth the resizing of the image, so in these browsers everything looks good. In IE7 I have applied the following fix which works great: -ms-interpolation-mode:bicubic; In IE6 however I can only find references to the AlphaImage Filter (the same one used to enable alpha transparency on PNG files). However I can't find an example of how to use it, nor have I been able to get it working myself. Can anyone provide me with an example? Preferably applied to actual img tags, though I could use background images if required.   I am developing an Excel addin that has an udf and calls it as a worksheet function. It is a com addin where I am using the IDTExtensibility2 interface and set the class interface type as autodual and then shim it as in the link http://blogs.msdn.com/andreww/archive/2006/07/23/excel-interop-types-in-shimmed-automation-add-ins.aspx Things work fine in my development machine but I am having a tough time packaging the assembly. The addin registers but the formula does not appear in the formula bar of Excel after the installation. Can someone help me with the right way to get it done ?   I am following the example from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8wy069k1.aspx to consume a web service implemented (by 3rd party) using the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern. However, my program needs to do multiple calls to the DoStuffAsync() hence will get back as many DoStuffCompleted. I chose the overload which takes an extra parameter - Object userState to distinguish them. My first question is: Is it valid to cast a GUID to Object as below, where GUID is used to generate unique taskID? Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); Secondly, do I need to spawn off a new thread for each DoStuffAsync() call, since I am calling it multiple times? Also, would be nice to have some online examples or tutorials on this subject. (I've been googling for it the whole day and didn't get much back) Many thanks

  I'm trying to read in a 24 GB XML file in C, but it won't work. I'm printing out the current position using ftell() as I read it in, but once it gets to a big enough number, it goes back to a small number and starts over, never even getting 20% through the file. I assume this is a problem with the range of the variable that's used to store the position (long), which can go up to about 4,000,000,000 according to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/s3f49ktz%28VS.80%29.aspx, while my file is 25,000,000,000 bytes in size. A long long should work, but how would I change what my compiler(Cygwin/mingw32) uses or get it to have fopen64?
