• Dynamic endpoint binding in Oracle SOA Suite by Cattle Crew

  Why is dynamic endpoint binding needed? Sometimes a BPEL process instance has to determine at run-time which implementation of a web service interface is to be called. We’ll show you how to achieve that using dynamic endpoint binding. Let’s imagine the following scenario: we’re running a car rental agency called RYLC (Rent Your Legacy Car) which operates different locations. The process of renting a car is basically identical for all locations except for the determination which cars are currently available. This is depicted in the following diagram: There are three different implementations of the GetAvailableCars service. But how can we achieve calling them dynamically at run-time using Oracle SOA Suite? How to dynamically set the service endpoint There are just a couple of implementation steps we need to perform to enable dynamic endpoint binding: create a new SOA project in JDeveloper add a CarRental BPEL process add an external reference to the GetAvailableCars service within the composite create a DVM file containing the URI’s by which the services for the different locations can be accessed set the endpointURI property on the Invoke component calling the GetAvailableCars service (value is taken from the DVM file) Read the complete article here.   i've just started using a new ec2 install of ubuntu karmic 9.10 and my first task was to install the jdk. when running apt-get install sun-java6-jdk i get the following: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Package sun-java6-jdk is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source E: Package sun-java6-jdk has no installation candidate i've tried apt-get update as well as adding deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ karmic universe to /etc/apt/sources.list any ideas fellas?

  My myTouch Slide wasn't mounting, so I decided to open Disk Utility. • Why does my system use so much cache?

  Previously, on my desktop computer running Ubuntu 14.04, I had 4GB RAM, which I thought should be plenty. However, after being on for a while, my computer would seem to get slow. I have a system resource monitor app in my Gnome panel, which I assume represents the available RAM (?). It shows a dark green area as being "Memory", and a light green area as "Cache". The "Cache" would slowly grow until it filled the whole graph, and then programs would get slow to load, or it would take a while to switch programs. I could alleviate the problem somewhat with this command, but eventually the computer cache fills up again, so it's only a bandaid: sudo sh -c "sync; echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches" So, I figured I'd get more RAM, so I replaced one 2GB stick with an 8GB stick, and now I have 10 GB ram. And my "cache" still slowly maxes out and my computer slows as a result. Also, sometimes the computer starts out with "cache" maxed when I first boot and log in. Not always though, I don't know if there's a pattern that determines why it happens. Why is Ubuntu using up so much cache? Is 10GB not enough for Ubuntu? Here's what my system monitor looks like in my Gnome panel. The middle square shows RAM usage. The light green area is the "cache": This is my memory and swap history, which doesn't seem to include any information about "cache". I realize at this point I'm not totally clear on the difference between "cache" and "swap":

• Domain and TS migration

  The migration steps outlined by Microsoft in the ts migration seem to deal with moving TS to a different server on the same domain and call for adding the licensing service to another system, move the licenses and then put TS on whatever server you want. However with migrating the domain as well I don't have any place to move the TS server to. So my thought was to simply re-activate my licenses on the new server using the same method as a new TS setup. My question is essentially will this work the way I think it will or will the MS activation clearing house deny the new server? Is there a procedure to follow that "deactivates" the licenses on a server so that the clearing house knows there are some free? (FWIW I can look up the license information through the eopen website and have access to the original license doc.)

• How do I get my server to recognise a change in users?

  I'm new in post running a small charity. As a result I've inherited a system from the previous manager that was poorly run. In my enthusiasm to change login details etc. I appear to have killed my microsoft outlook account. When trying to access outlook it prompts me for my user name, domain name and password - which I'm obviously not filling in correctly because it's not accepting my answers. Is there a way to determine that information from the server side? I have access to the server and the staff computers.

• Why are we as an industry not more technically critical of our peers? [closed]

  For example: I still see people in 2011 writing blog posts and tutorials that promote setting the Java CLASSPATH at the OS environment level. I see people writing C and C++ tutorials dated 2009 and newer and the first lines of code are void main(). These are examples, I am not looking for specific answers to the above questions, but to why the culture of accepting sub-par knowledge in the industry is so rampant. I see people posting these same type of empirically wrong suggestions as answers on www.stackoverflow.com and they get lots of up votes and practically no down votes! The ones that get lots of down votes are usually from answering a question that wasn't asked because of lack of reading for comprehension skills, and not incorrect answers per se. Is our industry that ignorant as a whole, I can understand the internet in general being lazy, apathetic and un-informed but our industry should be more on top of things like this and way more critical of people that are promoting bad habits and out-dated techniques and information. If we are really an engineering discipline, why aren't people held to a higher standard as they are in other engineering disciplines? I want to know why people accept bad advice, poor practices as the norm and are not more critical of their peers in the software industry.?

  I don’t talk about data visualisation (#dataviz) much on this blog because, well, because its not something I can claim to be particularly knowledgeable about – that doesn’t stop me from having an opinion about it though. I just stumbled upon an article that compares the media ecosystems of four various technology companies entitled Mapping The Entertainment Ecosystems of Apple, Microsoft, Google & Amazon and apart from being a well-researched and well-written article (not something that the tech press excels in, in my opinion) I was struck by how well the author uses maps to tell a story to the reader. Take the map in this screenshot: Clicking on one of the four icons at the bottom of the map dynamically changes the shaded areas of the map to indicate which countries that company offers their services. Its aesthetically pleasing but moreover it instantly coveys useful information to me. What I love about it most of all though is that its all pure HTML – I don’t need any poxy Silverlight or Flash plugin to view the maps and interact with them – all I need is an up to date web browser (I use Chrome v22 although I tested using IE9 and it worked fine there too). This is how I believe data visualisation should be - conveying useful info in a friction-free way. • Sane(r) way to get character-encoding of CLI?

  Hi all! I was writing a CLI-Tool for Mac OS X (10.5+) that has to deal with command-line arguments which are very likely to contain non-ASCII characters. For further processing, I convert these arguments using +[NSString stringWithCString:encoding:]. My problem is, that I couldn't find good information on how to determine the character-encoding used by the shell in which said cli-tool is running in. • Maintaining State in Mud Engine

  I am currently working on a Mud Engine and have started implementing my state engine. One of the things that has me troubled is maintaining different states at once. For instance, lets say that the user has started a tutorial, which requires specific input. I read a few different posts on here about state management but nothing regarding keeping a stack history. I thought about using a Stack collection, and just pushing new states on to the stack then popping them off as the user moves out from one. It seems like it would work, but I'm not sure if it is the best approach to take. I'm looking for recommendations on this. I'm currently swapping state from within the individual states themselves as well which I'm on the fence about if it makes sense to do there or not. The user enters a command, the StateManager passes the command to the current State and lets it determine if it needs it (like passing in a password after entering a user name), if the state doesn't need any further commands, it returns null. If it does need to continue doing work, it returns a No Operation to let the state manager know that the state still requires further input from the user. If null is returned, the state manager will then go find the appropriate state for the command entered by the user.   I'm starting to use CrashPlan to backup my Win 7 PC. I've got it writing to my external HD (for quick local restores) and to CrashPlan Central (for offsite storage). I'd like to backup my entire C:\ drive (the only partition) in a way that: Preserves all of my installed software and configuration, but Avoids backing up log files and other ephemeral / temporary files that are regenerated during normal operation of the OS. • CURL on PHP 5.2 works in CLI but not in IIS

  I have a Windows 2003 Server running IIS with php 5.2.8, I'm trying to use CURL, and it works in CLI mode (if i execute php.exe) but it does not seem to be registered when running under IIS. The output of PHP info in both CLI and IIS show the same 'Loaded Configuration File', but under IIS it does not give the CURL info box. c:\program files\php\php.exe -i shows ... Loaded Configuration File => C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini ... curl cURL support => enabled cURL Information => libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8i zlib/1.2.3 phpinfo() ... Loaded Configuration File => C:\Program Files\PHP\php.ini ... NOTE: This server also runs php 5.3 in c:\program files\php-5.3.0 and CURL does properly work with that installation.

Situation we have a remote Windows Server 2008R2 VPS and i just installed the Active Directory Domain Services Role. A DNS Server was also configured by default at the end of the Active Directory installation. Problem I can't get my Windows 7 machine to register itself to the domain i have just created Question What are the steps i have to take to test my Active Directory configuration, and how do i connect clients to this Domain? • Is there a rule of thumb for RAM upgrades?

  I'm having a hard time figuring out whether or not a certain laptop/computer's RAM can be upgraded or not. Is there a rule of thumb that determines how much max RAM one could add to a system without looking it up via external websites? A little bit of a background information: I work in computer sales at a computer electronics store, so it is virtually impossible for me to install any sort of software that would detect computer specs, and I get a lot of customers who wonder what laptop/desktop RAM upgrades usually are. Is there a certain rule that adding more RAM entails? Does it make a difference if it's a 32-bit or 64-bit machine? OS?

• How can I justify software testing to management?

  I work for a small company (less than 200 employees) whose software group only makes up a small part of our staff (4 employees, occasionally with a few contractors). The four of us have been making strides in transitioning to better practices, and one of the next logical steps is to improve our testing. As anyone who has done any meaningful tests knows, testing takes a lot of time - and at my company, it takes too much time to justify to management, so we generally do what little we do on the sly. I don't think this is serving us well, as we keep coming up against otherwise avoidable problems when we ship under-tested software. I would like to be able to come to management with a justification for hiring a dedicated software test engineer (someone who can both write automated tests and perform manual ones). Are there any good published studies that show the benefits of adding such a position to a small company? Where can I find information about costs associated with the position? I plan on doing a little number crunching on our own history, but having some external sources to point to would help bolster my case.

• JEE frameworks, a road map to learn? and should I learn them?

  Background Information I have been into programming since past 1 years professionally, my day to day work includes writing BIRT reports, designing and validating forms using JEE (struts/spring, hibernate). I don't have a comp Sci 4 year degree (Electronics), so I have very Limited experience in comp Sci. Question JEE frameworks (struts1/2, spring, hibernate etc) are hot nowadays, however java world have a tendency of building A4j, B4J... mayway4J kind of stuff (and I am tired of it). AFAIK, frameworks are nothing but bunch of XML config files and hundreds of classes built to cram (by developer). And sooner then later a new framework come into picture that says I am the best among all. So My Question is - 1.What will you do to learn a framework (many frameworks) considering that it can be obsolete till you'll be master in it (Learning frameworks can take significant amount of time)? 2.Considering early into your career, will you give a damn that how well someone knows framework (knowing frame work is important but still..) and why/how should I learn a framework knowing I have to (un)learn it in order to learn other one (plenty of of 4Js....)? I am just trying to get a big picture, that, if you're in place of me, what would be your learning/cramming strategy (Road map)? I am not intended to start a holy war between A versus B, (frameworks are more or less essential).

• Visual SVN server Running but cannot access / browse repositories

  Operating System: Windows Web Server 2008 R2 Visual SVN Version: 2.5.7 Subversion: 1.7.7 Apache: 2.2.22 I freshly installed the Visual SVN latest version on the server and created one repository in it. In the server management window, it shows that the server is up and running but when I try to browse it in a web browser, it doesn't respond. I am not able to import my existing code into the repository: Error: Cannot connect to server open/browse the repository with either command localhost:81/svn OR http://www.myserver.com:81/svn OR http:// myIPAddress:81/svn Visual SVN log is clean. The last information in the server log is that "The server is listening to port 81.
