  • Is there any reason why jQuery Sortable would work in IE/Chrome but not Firefox?

    - by DNS
    I have a fairly straightforward list of horizontally floated items, like this: <div class="my-widget-container"> <div class="my-widget-column">...</div> ... </div> Both the container and each column have a fixed width, set using jQuery's .width(). The container is position: relative and the column is float: left and overflow: hidden. Not sure if any other styles/properties are relevant. When I apply a jQuery-UI sortable to this, the result is exactly what I'd expect in Chome 8 and IE 8; the columns can be dragged around to change their order. But in Firefox 3.6 I can click an item and drag to create a new sort-helper, yet the actual sort never happens; the real item's position in the DOM never changes. I dug around a little in Sortable, and added a debug print to _intersectsWithPointer. Whenever the drag helper moves, Sortable runs through its list of elements and uses this method to determine whether the drag helper has passed over one. What I saw was that item.left had the same value for all my columns, which is obviously not correct, and probably the source of the problem. It looks like all columns had a left position corresponding to that of the first column. I'm using jQuery 1.4.3 and jQuery UI Sortable 1.8. Those aren't the very latest versions, but they're pretty recent, and I don't see anything in the Sortable release notes that indicates any such problem has been fixed. Does anyone know what might be happening here, or have any ideas for further debugging?

  • How to add values to a JSON object?

    - by Damiano
    Hello everybody, I have created an array with: var msg = new Array(); then, I have a function that add values to this array, this function is: function add(time, user, text){ var message = [time, user, text]; if (msg.length >= 50) msg.shift(); msg.push(message); } As you can see, if the array has 50 or more elements I remove the first with .shift(). Then I add an array as element. Ok, the code works perfectly, but now I have to loop the msg array to create a JSON obj. The JSON object should has this format: var obj = [ {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text}, {'time' : time, 'user' : user, 'text' : text} ] I mean...i have to loop msg array and then store all the values inside the JSON object. I do not know how to "concatenate" the element of the array inside json obj. Could you help me? Thank you very much in advance!

  • Time to start a counter on client-side.

    - by Felipe
    Hi everybody, I'm developing an web application using asp.net mvc, and i need to do a stopwatch (chronometer) (with 30 seconds preprogrammed to start in a certain moment) on client-side using the time of the server, by the way, the client's clock can't be as the server's clock. So, i'm using Jquery to call the server by JSon and get the time, but it's very stress because each one second I call the server to get time, something like this: $(function() { GetTimeByServer(); }); function GetTimeByServer() { $.getJSon('/Home/Time', null, function(result) { if (result.SecondsPending < 30) { // call another function to start an chronometer } else { window.SetTimeout(GetTimeByServer, 1000); //call again each 1 second! } }); } It works fine, but when I have more than 3 or 4 call like this, the browser slowly but works! I'd like to know, how improve more performace in client side, or if is there any way to do this... is there any way to client listen the server like a "socket" to know if the chronometer should start... PS: Sorry for my english! thanks Cheers

  • Getting the date object to work in IE6 (w/ YYYY-MM-DD param)?

    - by J. LaRosee
    I just got IE6 sprung on me for a project that is going out into the wild soon, which means it's time to go back and comb through all of the CSS and JS. I've gotten hung up on the date object, however: $.validator.addMethod("dateRange", function() { var today = new Date(); var event_date_raw = $('#event_date').val(); var event_date_parts = event_date_raw.split("-"); var event_date = new Date( event_date_parts[2]+","+event_date_parts[1]+","+event_date_parts[0] ); if( event_date.getTime() >= today.getTime() ) return true; return false; }, "Please specify a correct date:"); event_date.getTime() is returning "NaN" in IE6 so the validation fails. The event_raw_date is in the YYYY-MM-DD format, which date doesn't seem to mind in every other browser... Thoughts?

    Hi, I need a plugin for jquery or another js framework, where I can define a small div where i can drag around a big picture, so i get only a clipping of the picture. any ideas? edit: i try to explain i have a small div, like 600px x 450px. this div behaves like a clipping window for a big picture with like 3000px x 2000px. so i only see a specific cutout of the big picture. and i need to drag that big picture around in this small clipping window! c

  • Element.appendChild() hosed in IE .. workaround? (related to innerText vs textContent)

    - by Rowe Morehouse
    I've heard that using el.innerText||el.textContent can yield unreliable cross-browswer results, so I'm walking the DOM tree to collect text nodes recursively, and write them into tags in the HTML body. What this script does is read hash substring valus from the window.location and write them into the HTML. This script is working for me in Chrome & Firefox, but choking in IE. I call the page with an URL syntax like this: http://example.com/pagename.html#dyntext=FOO&dynterm=BAR&dynimage=FRED UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Solution: I moved the scripts to before </body> (where they should have been) then removed console.log(sPageURL); and now it's working in Chrome, Firefox, IE8 and IE9. This my workaround for the innerText vs textContent crossbrowser issue when you are just placing text rather than getting text. In this case, getting hash substring values from the window.location and writing them into the page. <html> <body> <span id="dyntext-span" style="font-weight: bold;"></span><br /> <span id="dynterm-span" style="font-style: italic;"></span><br /> <span id="dynimage-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"></span><br /> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.8/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function() { var tags = ["dyntext", "dynterm", "dynimage"]; for (var i = 0; i < tags.length; ++i) { var param = GetURLParameter(tags[i]); if (param) { var dyntext = GetURLParameter('dyntext'); var dynterm = GetURLParameter('dynterm'); var dynimage = GetURLParameter('dynimage'); } } var elem = document.getElementById("dyntext-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dyntext); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynterm-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynterm); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynimage-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynimage); elem.appendChild(text); }); function GetURLParameter(sParam) { var sPageURL = window.location.hash.substring(1); var sURLVariables = sPageURL.split('&'); for (var i = 0; i < sURLVariables.length; i++) { var sParameterName = sURLVariables[i].split('='); if (sParameterName[0] == sParam) { return sParameterName[1]; } } } </script> </body> </html> FINAL UPDATE If your hash substring values require spaces (like a linguistic phrase with three words, for example) then separate the words with the + character in your URI, and replace the unicode \u002B character with a space when you create each text node, like this: var elem = document.getElementById("dyntext-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dyntext.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynterm-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynterm.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); var elem = document.getElementById("dynimage-span"); var text = document.createTextNode(dynimage.replace(/\u002B/g, " ")); elem.appendChild(text); Now form your URI like this: http://example.com/pagename.html#dyntext=FOO+MAN+CHU&dynterm=BAR+HOPPING&dynimage=FRED+IS+DEAD

  • Finding the methods/properties on a swf object

    - by Jones
    I have a swf object embedded into a web page. Without having access to the source code of the swf file, how can I find the methods/properties that are exposed? For example... alert(document.getElementById('swfObject').id); ...returns a pop-up of "swfObject". And this... document.getElementById('swfObject').someMethod(); ...executes someMethod. Thanks.

  • iPad doesn't trigger resize event going from vertical to horizontal?

    - by dclowd9901
    Has anyone noticed this behavior? I'm trying to write a script that will trigger upon a resize. It works fine on normal browsers, works fine on iPhone, but on iPad, will only trigger going from horizontal to vertical viewport, not vice versa. Here's the code: $(window).resize( function() { var agent=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); var is_iphone = ((agent.indexOf('iphone') != -1)); var is_ipad = ((agent.indexOf('ipad') != -1)); if(is_iphone || is_ipad){ location.reload(true); } else { /* Do stuff. */ }; });

  • change elements' css immediately on scroll event

    - by jedierikb
    I want to change the background color of in-viewport elements (using overflow: scroll) So here was my first attempt: http://jsfiddle.net/2YeZG/ As you see, there is a brief flicker of the previous color before the new color is painted. Others have had similar problems. Following the HTML5 rocks instructions, I tried to introduce requestAnimationFrame to fix this problem to no avail: http://jsfiddle.net/RETbF/ What am I doing wrong here?

  • getting an onclick event to a select option using js

    - by Vadim.G
    i am having a very frustrating problem. I have this code which filters out my results and inputs them into a select box var syn = <?=json_encode($syn)?>; function filterByCity() { var e = document.getElementById("city_filter"); var city = e.options[e.selectedIndex].value; var selectOptions = document.getElementById('syn_list'); selectOptions.options.length = 0; for (i = 0; i < syn.length; i++) { if (city == syn[i]['city'] || city == 'all') { selectOptions.options[selectOptions.options.length] = new Option(syn[i]['name'], syn[i]['id'] + '" onclick="updateTxtContent(\'' + syn[i]['id'] + '\')'); } } } as you might see i am adding a onclick listener to every select "option" which look great in the source code of the page itself but if i copy it into an edit i notice this my problem is that the "updateTxtContent()" function is not called. <select size="10" name="syn_list" id="syn_list" class="span12" dir="rtl" style="text-align:right;"> <option value="13&quot; onclick=&quot;updateTxtContent('13')">option a</option> <option value="14&quot; onclick=&quot;updateTxtContent('14')">option b</option> obviously there should be a better way to do this that i am not aware of.

  • Jquery .html and .load

    - by Jack Pilowsky
    I'm trying to teach myself jQuery and I'm a little stomped with the load() method. I'm working on eBay listings. Yes, I know includes are not allowed on ebay. However, there is a workaround that has been around for a few years and ebay doesn't seem to be cracking down on it. var ebayItemID='xxxxxxxxxxxxxx'; // This is eBay code. I cannot edit it. <h1 id="title"> TO BE REPLACED</h1> $(document).ready(function(){ var link = "http://www.ebay.com/itm/" + ebayItemID + "?item=" + ebayItemID + &viewitem=&vxp=mtr"; var newTitle = $('#title').load(link + "#itemTitle"); $('#title').html(newTitle); }); What's the point of this. I want to show the item title on the description, but I want to do so dynamically,

  • Submit to open up a popup window and carry through input data

    - by zac
    Hi, I have a input box on one page that on submit opens a new page with a longer form and the first field is populated with what was entered from the previous pages input box. So on page 1 there is this code: <form action="sign-up.php"> <input type="text" name="email" value="sign up for email" onFocus="clearText(this)" onBlur="clearText(this)" style="float: left;"> <input value='Submit' /> </form> Then on the sign-up page the receiving form grabs the string out of the url //<!-- Begin function getParams() { var idx = document.URL.indexOf('?'); if (idx != -1) { var tempParams = new Object(); var pairs = document.URL.substring(idx+1,document.URL.length).split('&'); for (var i=0; i<pairs.length; i++) { nameVal = pairs[i].split('='); tempParams[nameVal[0]] = nameVal[1]; } return tempParams; } } var params = getParams(); // End --> I would like to keep all of this functionality but it have it occur in a popup. I added this function to the submit: function myPopup() { window.open( "sign-up.php", "myWindow", "status = 1, height = 300, width = 300, resizable = 0" ) and the form becomes <form> <input type="text" name="email" value="sign up for email" onFocus="clearText(this)" onBlur="clearText(this)" style="float: left;"> <input onClick="myPopup()" value='Submit' /> </form> But it no longer appends the input data to the url string. Anyone have any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

  • How can I make an prototype ajax request with an array of values as a parameter?

    - by andresbravog
    i'm trying to make a ajax update in prototype with some values from a multirecordselect that sends a requests like. Parameters: {"action"=>"use_campaign", "campaigns"=> ["27929","27932"] , "advertiser_id"=>"", "controller"=>"admin/reporting", "ad_id"=>""} as you can see the request sends the "campaigns" elements as an array of values, i'm trying to do the same with this js code over prototype 7. // get the campaigns var campaign_ids = {}; var campaigns = $('filter_form').getInputs("hidden","report[campaigns][]"); campaigns.each( function(field) { campaign_ids.push(field.value); }); new Ajax.Updater('ad_filter', '/admin/reporting/use_campaign', { method : 'get', asynchronous : true, evalScripts : true, parameters : { 'advertiser_id' : $('filter_form')['report[advertiser_id]'].value, 'ad_id' : $('filter_form')['report[ad_id]'].value, 'campaigns' : campaign_ids } }); the campaigns_ids is getting the correct info as an array like: [ "27929", "27932" ] but seems that prototype ajax update is sending a request like: http://my_domain/admin/reporting/use_campaign?ad_id=&advertiser_id=&campaigns=27929&campaigns=27932 what sends parameters like: Parameters: {"action"=>"use_campaign", "campaigns"=> "27929" , "advertiser_id"=>"", "controller"=>"admin/reporting", "ad_id"=>""} I also tryed with Object.toJSON(campaign_ids) but i only get an escaped string like Parameters: {"action"=>"use_campaign", "campaigns"=>"[\"27929\",\"27932\"]" , "advertiser_id"=>"", "controller"=>"admin/reporting", "ad_id"=>""} There is anyway to do this as I wish? Thanks for all.

  • JS dynamic img change and SEO

    - by Gusepo
    Hi all, I've built a web site using jquery to make nice transitions between content. The code works this way: there are 2 imgs (body and footer) when I click on a link (instead of going to another page) I fade out the 2 imgs and change the src attribute of the 2. When the new imgs are loaded I fade them back in. I'm using SWFaddress to allow user go directly to internal content. Now I'd like to make my content indexed by google and other Search engines, all the text content is inside the imgs, So I've got the text in ALT attribute. My question is: if a dinamically change the imgs ALT attribute using JS, will spiders be able to read it properly? consider that I'm using SWFaddress to create a sitemap.. Thanks
