  Is there any java libraries that is similar to unix's command file? ie: $ file somepicture.png somepicture.png PNG image, 805 x 292, 8-bit/color RGB, non-interlaced The file command is such a nice tool. I need something that can tell me if the file is really what I want it to be. (ie a picture, document etc) I know I can run the command file, but I am looking for a java library, not running the actual unix command.

  So, I have this code: } else { $photograph_moderation = new PhotographModeration($this->photograph_id); $photograph_moderation->purgePhotograph(); //eventually take to an error page die('image is not big enough to upload'); } the purgePhotograph() function gets called properly when this condition is met, but the script never appears to die. Is there a reason why die wouldn't get called here? purgePhotograph() has no script killing commands either.

But seeing how we are getting cpu's with more and more cores and there are still many developers who do not use multithreading, if we have this functionality built in, it could increase performance dramatically in some scenarios. One particular example where this could be quite useful is in image processing. I doubt that the built in GDI+ classes are multithreaded.
