  • Google Map Web Service working on local but not online

    Hi all, I have a problem with a Javascript request to the Google Map Api Web Service : if I have the HTML file on my computer it works, but it doesn't work online. Here's the code : url = 'http://maps.google.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Senador+Francisco+Quindimil+Y+Carabobo+Por+Carabobo,Ciudad+Autonoma+de+Buenos+Aires,Argentina&sensor=false'; $.get(url, function(data) { $('#result').html(data); alert('Load was performed.'); }, 'text'); This sample is just supposed to load the "data" in the "result" element.     For this question I'm going to give a simplified example of what I want to do, and the function I want to learn to write. var collection = ''; <div id='container'> <span>1</span> <span>2</span> <span>3</span> </div> What I want to do this, for every span in the div, take its text, add it to the collection. So ideally it would look like: $('#container').addtoCollection(collection); The method would be something like: $(this).find('span').each(function () { collection = collection + $(this).text(); }). Where the first this would equal #container. So in the end you can do: console.log(collection); and get: 123 How do I write the function that does this? Thanks!

  • Always require a plugin to be loaded

    I am writing an application with RequireJS and Knockout JS. The application includes an extension to knockout that adds ko.protectedObservable to the main knockout object. I would like this to always be available on the require'd knockout object, and not only when I specify it in the dependencies. I could concat the files together, but that seems that it should be unnecessary. Additionally, I can put knockout-protectedObservable as a dependency for knockout in the requirejs shim configuration, but that just leads to a circular dependency and it all fails to load.     The best way to illustrate this question is with...a Fiddle! Before you visit the fiddle, notice there is text behind the grayest element, which is on top of a light gray element that has a border. There is a main wrapping div (root), and two wrapping divs inside (wrap1 and wrap2). The problem here is that I need the content of wrap2 (highlight) to be behind the content of wrap1 (text), but in front of the background of the root. This, however, must not change: The HTML, the elements and wraps should be left untouched. Excluding the order of wrap1 and wrap2 inside root. The highlight div must keep the absolute positioning. Styling highlight with background-color is not an option, the existence of highlight is a must. PS: the italics reference the id's of <div>s in the fiddle example, for whomever was too lazy to visit it.

  • Can you detect if and excel find and replace is active during worksheet_change()?

    Hi I've just crashed excel using amazon spreadsheet to update feed. When doing find and replace [replace all] with 2 cells selected after the first replacement the worksheet_change() function finished with the whole spreadsheet selected. This meant that the replacements took place outside of the original area. Unfortunatly the replcement text included the find text and each replacement re-selected the entire area excel ran until it ran out of space then crashed. Pressing control-break brings up the vba dialog STOP/CONTINUE/DEBUG. DEBUG is greyed out as amazon had protected the sheet. STOP would stop one run but would then continue to crash. CONTINUE would switch back to the current change and continue to crash. Is there any way to detect if a find&replace operation is in action whilst executing excel vba? Regards John

  • [java] Threading socket handler for two sided communication in tcp port

    I want to make a chat which will be programed in java. one computer will host the server and the other one will initiate the socket [tcp port]. now from what I read there should be a loop that will constantly read the socket which means it will make the code stuck. I have a button that is 'actionperformed' on mouse release, I want to know if it will work along with the loops that constantly reads the socket so that it will also send the infromation I wrote. If I must thread it, I want to know if the run() method must be void because if I thread it it will mean creating a new class, and the whole GUI is one big class which includes a text area, and it's private. also how can I extract the information from the socket directly to the text area? lets say the textarea variable is called "chatOutput". thx :)

    We have an automatic reporting and notification system written in .net that sends emails with plain text. We are having to encrypt the messages that we send our clients. The possible implementation approaches we have: Send messages as S/Mime email with attachments. Plain text email with that just contains a link to a web site that will display the message over https. It seems like S/Mime is a simpler solution, as we won't need to create the web application or secure it. Our concern is our interoperability with our clients email clients and more importantly their email filtering software. Has anyone had success or issues deploying a Signed MIME messaging solution?

  • Why are items being placed below?

    This is really confusing and I have never had this occur. For my computer, it is fine. But for anyone else's computer I have tried, it screws up. So on my site, designatease.com , the second bar down, it places the fifth item down below the first four. I am not sure why it is doing this.   • CSS - image overflow tricks

    I'm stucking with some design techniques where I want to make image item box like this Where the actual image can be upto maximum height of 300px and width of 225px. The width and height of the item box including the image and the text is 190px x 190px I'm using this image http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7122/7424355198_72620895bd_m.jpg I tried using overflow: hidden for the image item to hide it's height below to show the image text.
