    I'm using PHP to json encode a massive multi-dimensional array of events, so i get something like this: var ents = {"7":{"event_id":"7","nn":"The Whisky Drifters","nn_url":"the-whisky-drifters","venue":"The Grain Barge","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"1","sd":"A New Acoustic String Band...","ven_id":"44","art":0},"15":{"event_id":"15","nn":"Bass Kitchen","nn_url":"bass-kitchen","venue":"Timbuk2","date_num":"2010-06-11","date_txt":"Friday 11th June","gig_club":"2","sd":"Hexadecimal \/ DJ Derek \/ Id","ven_id":"21","art":1}, the first dimension is the id, see var ents = {"7":{ So its possible to get the ids without examining the nested objects... What's the fastest, most efficent way to check if my JSON contains an id?

  • jConfirm and onbeforeunload

    I have a basic function to alert the user upon refresh, browser back button (except the submit button) or when a link is clicked they will lose form data from a form wizard. <script type="text/javascript"> var okToSubmit = false; window.onbeforeunload = function() { document.getElementById('Register').onclick = function() { okToSubmit = true; }; if(!okToSubmit) return "Using the browsers back button will cause you to lose all form data. Please use the Next and Back buttons on the form"; }; </script> Im using jAlert plug in for alerts and would like to use jConfirm for the function above. When I add jConfirm after "return" it works...for a second. it pops the warning and then the page refreshes and the dialog box goes away. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Brainfart: How to make overflow content in a div

    I cant even come up with a proper subject for this one... Basically I have a box div, that when click expands to a rectangle and shows content in the new expanded area. The problem I'm having is that when I animate out the div's width, the browser wants to render the content as the box is stretching, rather than just have it placed where I need it.   • Preserving CSS styles with Javascript

    Hey guys, I have a web service where people can edit their pages CSS, but I have a bar on the footer of that page that I want to make consistend on every page... People are, right now, able to "remove" it with CSS and I really didn't want to go and parse the CSS to remove rules related to that bar... Is there a way to preserve the styles or re-aply them after load to keep the bar always visible? Thanks in advanced!

  • Flash causing jerky javascript animations

    Hi Guys, I'm developing a site which has a flash background playing a small video loop scaled to fill the whole background. Over the top I have a number of HTML elements which are animated using javascript. The problem I am having is that (predominantly in FF, but also in others to a lesser degree) the flash seems to be causing my javascript animations to run rather jerky, and in some cases missing the animation altogether and just jumping to the end state. Does anybody have any thoughts on how to make the 2 work together nicely? Many thanks Matt

    I have a login form for my website. This login form have two text fields, username and password. Currently I am placing labels(username, password) just before textfields. But now I want to removed these two labels and want to show text(username, password) inside textfield. When user focuses on these textfields then texts should be removed and user can enter his desired username and password. I have also noticed that when user open a login form then font color of text(username, password) populated in textfield(username, password) is of diffent color and when user start typing in that field then previous text is removed and new font color is black. How is it possible?

  • How can you toggle between two sets of values per data series in flot?

    flot has built-in support for multiple data series (sample code) and also dual-axis (sample code). Assuming multiple data series (water, electricity, etc) that each have an amount (usage) and a dollar value (charge for that usage), what would the best way be to to use flot to display either the amount or dollar values for all the data series, while still supporting toggling display for each individual series? The idea is to send down all the data in one GET request and then let the client take care of everything else in Javascript. Ideally we could use triplets somehow {date, amount, charge}, and then possibly split that into two arrays for flot.

  • rails update whole index of a model with one click

    hello! i have a store model, this will handle my leaflet and my shoppingcart for my shop. now i d´like to show all items added from an user to his leaflet in the index of store. in the store an user can change the quantity of the choosen items. and now i want to save that the changes of the different quantities in the database with one click on a button "update store". so how could i implement an update over the whole index with one click? i´d like to do this with ajax and most dynamically. somebody has an idea? i render all items into a form so far, but now i have the problem, when i submit this form only the last quantity and item id are included in the params. further i pushed every quantity into an array and i want to submit this also as a param. but i could not. please give me some tips, will be very fine :) mattherick

  • ajax to php to curl and back..

    I am trying to make an ajax call to a php script. The php script calls an rss feed using curl, gets the data, and returns the data to the funciton. I keep getting an error "Warning: Wrong parameter count for curl_error() in" .... Here is my php code:1 $ch = curl_init() or die(curl_error()); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $feed); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $data1 = curl_exec($ch) or die(curl_error()); echo $data1; and the ajax call: $.ajax({ url: "getSingleFeed.php", type: "POST", data: "feedURL=" + window.feedURL, success: function(feed){ alert(feed); }}); I tested all the variables, they are being passed correctly, I can echo them out. But this line: $data1 = curl_exec($ch) or die(curl_error()); is what is giving me the error. I am doing the same thing with curl on other pages, just without ajax, and it is working fine. Is there anything special I need to do with ajax to do this?

  • jsTree: Prevent before and after TYPE, only use inside

    I am using jsTree which is very nice. When dragging and dropping, I don't really care for the before and after types, I only want to use inside. Meaning, I am only concerned about that parent that a child is dropped into, rather than where the order is with other elements INSIDE the parent. So, I wanted to build my callback, so it always refers to the parent node that it is inside.   • Should I unit test my JavaScript?

    I'm curious to if it would be valuable, I'd like to start using QUnit, but I really don't know where to get started. Actually I'm not going to lie, I'm new to testing in general, not just with JS. I'm hoping to get some tips to how I would start using unit testing with an app that already has a large amount of JavaScript (ok so about 500 lines, not huge, be enough to make me wonder if I have regression that goes unnoticed). How would you recommend getting started and Where would I write my tests? (for example its rails app, where is a logical place to have my JS tests, it would be cool if they could go in the /test directory but it's outside the public directory and thus not possible... err is it?)
