  • Help me to find a better approach-Design Pattern

    I am working on an ASP.Net web application in which several WCF services are being used. At client level, I am creating channel factory mechanism to invoke service operations. Right now, I have created an assembly having classes used for channel factory creation code for every service. As per my assumption this is some sort of facade pattern. Please help me to find a better approach or any design pattern, which I can use here.

By now I can see only two ways: Flickr - there are groups but you have to approve group membership anyway, or use tags for grouping which is bad for maintenance Custom server solution which will cost efforts and hosting Can you suggest other free photo services with geotags functionality, or opensource solutions?   • Unit tests and fixtures

    We have a bunch of unit tests which test a lot of webpages and REST API services. Currently when our tests run it pulls from these pages live but this can take ages to run sometimes, and it also feels like the tests should be testing more of our code - not just relying on them being up and responding (if that makes sense..). Is it better practice to save a valid api response and with the unit tests load this in during setup? Thoughts?

    Appears that WAS does not support the integration binding. I've tried setting it up by enabling the net.msmq protocol in WAS just to confirm it to no avail. Has anyone gotten this to work and if not, what are you using to host integration services? I'm leaning towards a Windows Service.

    I'm having issues with the maximum nametable char count quota, I followed a couple of answers here and it solved the problem for a while, but now I'm having the same issue.   • WPF: Best method for printing paginated datagrids

    Boy did I get an education looking into this. I guess I've been spoiled by Powerbuilder, which has fantastic functionality for this out of the box. Does anyone seriously write custom documentpaginator objects to handle reporting needs for their LOB apps? I want to be able to print "for free" and not have to code like crazy just to take whats on the screen and throw it on paper. How are people doing this? Does anyone have a recommended 3rd party for allowing printing of largish datagrids? Thanks

    To remove a normal marker from a map, I understand you simply call marker.setMap(null), but when implementing the Google Maps directions services, it automatically adds markers A and B onto the map ( calculating directions from point A to point B ). I do not have control over these markers, so I cannot remove them in the normal way. So how can I remove these markers (I have custom markers on the map instead)?

    lets say i do something like arrs = Article.where(:body => nil) i'll have arrs.count is let's say 900 and i do arrs.each do |ar| ar.delay.download_via_diffbot #a method that takes some time, does some http, and writes a non-nil value to ar.body end now i'll watch the logs, and a wait a few minutes on ~5 dynos do the jobs, and do a count again: arrs.count is now ~800 so wtf, i thought i just told my workers to do ~900 jobs, what happened to the other 800? i can confirm that i'm only making ~100 HTTP requests b/c the api reporting shows me this, also simply watching the logs is telling enough that 900 jobs are not happening.

  • Secure messaging using Signed MIME is it reliable?

    We have an automatic reporting and notification system written in .net that sends emails with plain text. We are having to encrypt the messages that we send our clients. The possible implementation approaches we have: Send messages as S/Mime email with attachments. Plain text email with that just contains a link to a web site that will display the message over https. It seems like S/Mime is a simpler solution, as we won't need to create the web application or secure it. Our concern is our interoperability with our clients email clients and more importantly their email filtering software. Has anyone had success or issues deploying a Signed MIME messaging solution?

  • How to use XSLT to tag specific nodes with unique, sequential, increasing integer ids?

    Hi, I'm trying to use XSLT to transform a document by tagging a group of XML nodes with integer ids, starting at 0, and increasing by one for each node in the group. The XML passed into the stylesheet should be echoed out, but augmented to include this extra information. Just to be clear about what I am talking about, here is how this transformation would be expressed using DOM: states = document.getElementsByTagName("state"); for( i = 0; i < states.length; i++){ states.stateNum = i; } This is very simple with DOM, but I'm having much more trouble doing this with XSLT. The current strategy I've devised has been to start with the identity transformation, then create a global variable which selects and stores all of the nodes that I wish to number. I then create a template that matches that kind of node. The idea, then, is that in the template, I would look up the matched node's position in the global variable nodelist, which would give me a unique number that I could then set as an attribute. The problem with this approach is that the position function can only be used with the context node, so something like the following is illegal: <template match="state"> <variable name="stateId" select="@id"/> <variable name="uniqueStateNum" select="$globalVariable[@id = $stateId]/position()"/> </template> The same is true for the following: <template match="state"> <variable name="stateId" select="@id" <variable name="stateNum" select="position($globalVariable[@id = $stateId])/"/> </template> In order to use position() to look up the position of an element in $globalVariable, the context node must be changed. I have found a solution, but it is highly suboptimal. Basically, in the template, I use for-each to iterate through the global variable. For-each changes the context node, so this allows me to use position() in the way I described. The problem is that this turns what would normally be an O(n) operation into an O(n^2) operation, where n is the length of the nodelist, as this require iterating through the whole list whenever the template is matched. I think that there must be a more elegant solution. However they are blocked by adblock plus and other adblockers. Considering that nowaday 30% of internet users use an adblocker I thought of making a work around for those. I integrated manual sharing buttons into my website. So far so good. Do you have any idea on how to hide my manual sharing buttons if the addthis buttons are shown. Or better said, don't hide them if the addthis buttons are removed by a addblocker? Is it possible to detect an adblocker through js? thx, I really appreciate your help!

  • What technology should I use for a complex report?

    I have a task to generate reports from a Visual Studio C# application. This is a replacement (caused by new requirements) for a program written using the built-in implementation of Crystal Reports. Although workable, it was far from ideal. The reports have conditional content (If type=1, print this, if type=2 print that.) Crystal does not adjust spacing dynamically and the various pieces were not the same length making for some unprofessional-looking spacing. I had thought of generating the reports in HTML, which would be feasible, but I'm concerned that you lose a degree of control, and I may be asked, e.g. to "move this up a bit" or similar which may be tricky. I'm not either a Crystal guru or an HTML guru. What other reporting technologies are available that would make it easy to drop in parts of different sizes, do table layouts, etc.?

  • Suppress error with @ operator in PHP

    In your opinion, is it ever valid to use the @ operator to suppress an error/warning in PHP whereas you may be handling the error? If so, in what circumstances would you use this? Code examples are welcome. Edit: Note to repliers. I'm not looking to turn error reporting off, but, for example, common practice is to use @fopen($file); and then check afterwards... but you can get rid of the @ by doing if (file_exists($file)) { fopen($file); } else { die('File not found'); } or similar. I guess the question is - is there anywhere that @ HAS to be used to supress an error, that CANNOT be handled in any other manner?

  • Is it possible to use components derived from TWinControl in a service?

    I am creating a Delphi service. Is there any way to use controls derived from TWinControl within services? Ultimately the control and any controls I place on it will be saved to a bitmap. But anything I try I get "control has no parent window" error. I have successfully created a TBitMap and can accomplish the same functionality. But having all the functionality built into the VCL would greatly simplify the task.
