  Torrent files are being increasingly scrapped for magnet links, "mini torrent files" in concise and plain-text form that can be simply copy pasted around. Those link to the actual .torrent file "in the BitTorrent cloud", without relying on servers that may be temporarily overtaxed ("OMG NEW UNBUNT MUST GET NAO") or simply offline. Does Canonical offer magnet links for their Torrent distributions? Where can one find them?

  Because i use internet from usb device which supports only on windows, and when I downloaded offline files from packages.ubuntu.com and linuxappsfinder.com and tried to install them in ubuntu, i just double clicked on such file(whose format extension was .deb), then it opened in ubuntu software center but said, dependency is not supported, How can i install softwares and plugins or codecs in ubuntu, without internet? • Psychonauts, what to do with 'psychonauts-linux-06042012-bin'?

  Psychonauts came in a neat file called psychonauts-linux-06042012-bin. The file system calls it an executable, but I can't find a way to execute it. Ubuntu suggested using "PyPar2" to open it like an archive, which made it into a bunch of .par2 files, but it then couldn't find anything else to open those. • Purpose of building file using Make

  I am trying to understand what is the purpose of making files using commands such as cmake .. and make, I have tried looking online but there is no concise explanation on its purpose that i could find. Also, is it necessary to use make on a project folder that is not built in order to use the source (C++) in other projects. • Transmission window freezes

  I'm using Xubuntu 13.10, although this problem was in 13.04 too. The thing is that Transmission window freezes sometimes and makes computer not response. This problem appears, when Transmission creates another window, e.g. for preferences, or for choosing files to be downloaded. What might be the reason for the problem? After reading similar questions, I think the reason might be that I download files to ntfs partition.

  I've bought my first VPS yesterday, and I have installed Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express on it. Then I have restarted my VPS. But SQL Server Service didn't start. I've tried to start it manually, but It can't start: What is the problem? How to solve it? P.S: This is my first server management, and I'm a newbie, if you need any further details about this, please leave a comment. I'll update the question. • Windows 2008, IIS7 and virtual directories

  I created a virtual directory called test (C:\test) under the Default Web Site and added two simple test files (one html and one aspx). I thought I had to add the IUSR and NetworkService (for application pools) to C:\test and grant the users appropriate rights in order for IIS7 to serve the content. It appears that is not the case at all as I can view any files in the virtual directory (even if I convert it to an application) without changing or adding any security settings on the C:\test folder. I just installed IIS7 with ASP.NET on Windows 2008 without changing any settings besides adding the virtual directory. Am I missing something? Even my book on IIS7 states that the user accounts should be added an appropriate rights should be added. I added the following to answer the comments: I am referencing the file using a public IP http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/test/one.html and the IP nor localhost is in my trusted sites. I am not signed in on the server at all as I am accessing the content from my home machine and the content is on my production server. The following users/groups have access to c:\test on the server (Creator Owner, System, Administrators, Users) and the app pool is running under the default NetworkService account. I basically installed win2008, added the IIS role with asp.net. I then opened IIS7, added a virtual directory and copied two files to the directory to test. It works which is great but I want to understand why it works. How is it that IIS7 can access files in the C:\test folder without any permissions set.

  While attempting to do an installation repair of SQL-2008R2, I'm failing the pre-check rules. Module that is failing is AclPermissionsFacet - with this message "The SQL Server registry keys from a prior installation cannot be modified. When I look at these keys in the registry, all of their permissions are blank. My problem is that I cannot find any good information on how to reset these keys. This is on my new home dev and I think during the migration from my previous machine, these settings got corrupted on my new box. In reviewing the web, there doesn't seem to be good infomration. And what there is suggests using subinacl.exe. But after trying it and seeing it is an XP based program, I'm at a loss on how to continue. • Alternative to robocopy /MIR

  We run a number of web apps that store a lot of local data in small xml files. One part of our backup / recovery strategy is to produce a local mirror of the file system via a VPN to the hosting centre. The VPN connection is only via a 12Mbps ADSL and whilst there are a lot of files and directories, the actual number of files that changes is quite small. Although the bandwidth is probably an issue, I'm seeing results such as the output below. The robocopy /MIR took 5 hours to run yet only 30 mins to actually perform the copy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to ways to improve this. The 5 hours is now bordering on too slow and if we can't find a way to speed this up then we're going to have to come up with a completely different solution. • Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901: Remap orange "My Computer" button

  I have a Lenovo Mini Wireless Keyboard N5901 (a.k.a. Part No. 57Y6336) that I'm using with an HTPC running Windows 7. The remote comes with an orange button in the top-left corner that by default, when pressed, opens the Windows "My Computer" window. I would like to remap / reprogram this button to act like the green "Windows Media Center" button instead on a Windows Media Center (WMC) remote; that is, open Windows Media Center if it isn't already open, or go to the WMC homepage if WMC is already open. I've tried several keyboard-remapping utilities (as recommended in other, more general "how to remap keyboard key?" SuperUser.com questions) including SharpKeys, Key Mapper, and KeyTweak, with no luck so far. None of these utilities recognize the orange button -- they all do recognize that some key was pressed, but display a value for the key of "unsupported" or something similar. I was able to use a utility called Keyboard Scan Code Generator to determine that a press of the orange button has a KeyData value of 16777217 (0x1000001), and a "Virtual Code" value of 182. (The other "media" buttons on the N5901 have the same KeyData value, but different Virtual Code values). I'm not sure at this point where in Windows this keystroke is being interpreted as a command to open "My Computer." There is no special software / driver for this device; it worked out of the box with Windows 7, no special driver install necessary. Is there any way to accomplish this? • Toshiba Portege M400 screen rotation not working under Windows 7 x64

  I have installed Windows 7 on my Toshiba Portege M400. This in itself was relatively tricky.* However, the button utilities aren't quite working for me. One of the buttons tries to launch the Toshiba Assist program, which doesn't appear to be available under Windows 7 for the M400, but this I can live without. More important is that the screen won't rotate as it is supposed to when you hold the "cancel" (X in a circle) button on the bezel. The PC is set to run "C:\Program Files (x860\Toshiba\Toshiba Rotation Utility\phtrot.exe". There is a "trot.exe" file in the same directory (the former appears to be to cause slightly different behaviour when rotation is done by press and hold). Neither of these programs rotates the screen either by using the buttons or from the command line. The screen is rotating normally when switching from tablet to laptop mode, so there does not appear to be an inherent problem with rotation. I'd just like to be able to use the buttons on the side of the screen to change the screen orientation. Windows XP used to have a "setrot" utility to do this, but that seems to have gone in Windows 7 Thanks for your help. *Just in case anyone comes looking for how to do this, you need to extract driver files from http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/util_raid_os2007252a.exe, which does not seem to be listed among the available files for the m400. This executable contains the SATA interface drivers that will need to be loaded by the installer before it can see your hard disk drive. It needs to be unpacked and the files copied to a USB key which they can then be loaded from in the install process. The utilities etc. for installation post windows install are all available from the Toshiba USA support website.

• Can you use SQLite 64 bit odbc from powershell

  Basically, my question is "Does this combo work for anyone," and, "Can you see what I am doing wrong" I have installed 64 bit ODBC driver for sqlite, downloaded from this page. I am running powershell version 2 on window 7. In ODBC configuration I create a system DSN with name LoveBoat, pointing at a valid file. I don't have any "real" apps to test whether the ODBC connection works, but a simple program I list below works. • SuperMicro BMC on OpenSuSE Linux --cannot access from LAN

  Hi, I have an (old) SMC-001 IPMI device on an (old) X6DVL-EG2 motherboard. My problem is that I cannot access the BMC from LAN. I'm also getting some interesting output from ipmitool. First, the setup. I enable Console Redirection in the BIOS, turn BIOS Redirection after POSt to "disabled". I then modprobe'ed for ipmi_msghandler, ipmi_devintf and ipmi_si. I then found ipmi0 under /dev. So far so good. Since I want console redirection over serial, I modified /boot/grub/menu.lst: http://pastebin.com/YYJmhusQ I then modified "/etc/inittab" as follows: S1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 19200 ttyS1 ansi Networking I set as following, using "ipmitool" ipaddr: 192.168.3.164 netmask: 255.255.255.0 defgw: 192.168.3.1 The above are correct for my environment. To test it I do: ipmitool -I open chassis power off which responds by powering off the machine. • Problems setting up a VPN: can connect but can't ping anyone

  This is my first time setting a VPN. Clients can connect but can't ping other machines. This is certainly a route problem but i can't find the right way to configure it. Here is a sample example of the two LANS i want to connect: So, i want machines from 192.168.1.0/24 being able to connect with 192.168.0.0/24 as if they were on the same network. For the VPN network, i would like to use the 10.0.0.0/24 range.
