• Making my computer an iPhone music dock?

  Are there any application which lets me play the music in my iPhone through the USB cable? It will be very convenient if I can just dock the phone (while the music is playing), and the music will come out from the computer's speakers instead of the speaker in the iPhone. Edit 1: Stock iPhone dock does have a line-out jack, thanks SidneySM for reminding me. Now the problem is, even though I have select Line In as the Sound Input in Mac OSX, there is no sound coming out from the speaker. How do I make the Speaker output the Line In audio?

• Forcing Acrobat Reader font

  Hello, I have a netbook with Linpus Linux and I'm trying to open automatically generated documents with Acrobat Reader that use Verdana but without having it embedded inside the PDF file. Linpus doesn't come natively with any Verdana font so I had to install them inside /usr/share/fonts/by doing mkfontdirand fc-cacheto force a recache of the fonts. Then I've been able to select it inside other programs (eg. OpenOffice) but I'm still unable to open these PDFs. It seems that Acrobat is unable to find the font anyway. Since I have no control on how these PDFs are generated, is there a way to force Acrobat to use a specific font is the one it needs is unfound? Or maybe Acrobat needs a different kind of font configuration on Linux? Thanks in advance

• State changes in entities or components

  I'm having some trouble figuring how to deal with state management in my entities. I don't have trouble with Game state management, like pause and menus, since these are not handled as an entity component system; just with state in entities/components. Drawing from Orcs Must Die as an example, I have my MainCharacter and Trap entities which only have their components like PositionComponent, RenderComponent, PhysicsComponent. On each update the Entity will call update on its components. I also have a generic EventManager with listeners for different event types. Now I need to be able to place the traps: first select the trap and trap position then place the trap. When placing a trap it should appear in front of the MainCharacter, rendered in a different way and following it around. When placed it should just respond to collisions and be rendered in the normal way. How is this usually handled in component based systems? (This example is specific but can help figure out the general way to deal with entities states.)

For the last 7/8 or so years I have almost exlusively used laptops, and so have fallen behind a bit with knowledge of various hardware technologies. Anyway, now I'm considering building a new desktop machine. Mainly for development work, but also would be nice to do a bit of gaming. The two main criteria are: I would like the first build to be relatively low cost. I would like to select components that will allow me to upgrade in the future without throwing too much away.   If I use database by creating adapter with drivers, initialize it in some abstract class and extend that abstract class to required model. Then use simple query statement. • BizTalk 2009 - How do I do t"HAT"?

  In my previous life working with BizTalk Server 2004, I came to view HAT (the Health and Activity Tracking tool) as one of my first ports of call in the case of problems with any of our BizTalk solutions.  When you move to BizTalk Server 2009 it is quickly apparent that HAT is no longer with us. HAT was useful in BizTalk 2004 mainly as it provided developers and administrators with a number of useful queries and views of what was going on inside BizTalk at runtime; when and what type of messages were received and sent, what messages had been suspended, what orchestration were running or suspended, you could even follow the process flow of a message or orchestration to see what was going on. With BizTalk Server 2009 much of the functionality of HAT can now be found in the BizTalk Administration console.  Select a BizTalk Group and you will be shown the Group Hub Overview page.  This provides a number of default queries that replicate some of those found in the old HAT. You can also use the Group Hub page to create new queries.  These can then be saved and loaded in other Group Hub instances - useful for creating queries in development for later use in Test, Psuedo-Live and Live environments. In the next few posts I am going to look at some of the common queries that we might miss from HAT and recreate them (or something close) using the new query option. Messages - last 100 received Messages - last 100 sent Messages - last 50 suspended Service instances - last 100 I have yet to try the updated Admin-HAT-Console in anger, and after using old-HAT for so long it may take some getting uesd to, but so far I would say that moving the HAT functionality into the BizTalk Administration console was probably the correct way to go.  Having one tool as the place to look for the combined functionality on offer certainly seems to be the sensible option.

• How can I deal with file association in different application(not in Nautilus)?

  Maybe i don't understand the system. Upgraded to (reinstalled) Ubuntu 11.04. Is there any way the applications can use something that i set in nautilus, or it's just a wrong idea about the usage? In nautilus the file association works great, easy, handy and so on... My first problem was when installed chromium. Downloaded a file, a popup ask for assocation, set nautilus. And it only opens folder, for any file show an error: it is not a direcrory. Ok, so i thought Google chrome changed, because previously .pdf open acrobat,.torrent open vuze and so on. But now i have to open nautilus on download folder with it, than select and open the preferable application by manually and can't use any automatism i used to. Then in gnome commander , it not followed the default association i set in nautilus. Ok maybe it is commander fault. use it's own. Then in calibre, the "read" use again this default "can't open its not a directory" error So it's seems to me the applications not using well this file associations or i really don't understand the aim of file associations system (mime,.desktop files,...) If there is no solution i think i have to search some program (if any exist's) which can identify and launch application and set as default instead nautilus.

• How do you save/export changes made in Firebug?

  Using Firebug to edit CSS, how do I save/export changes made to the CSS? TOOLS: Firefox, Firebug MAJOR UPDATE: If you know of a way to lock the forward/back/refresh on a FireFox tab, please let me know. Otherwise, I've given up on using FireBug/FireDiff as an IDE for CSS, it's nice, but lol... press backspace at the wrong time and ALL your work is gone... funny. So, really like the browser highlighting to CSS/HTML in Firebug. Know any good CSS editors that do this? Really had hope FireBug would work, but for now only see it as being good for ad-hoc inspection and test; meaning using it for what it's made for. UPDATES: @Lèse majesté: Just as an update, "Web Developer add-on" does let you edit CSS, but it does not let you edit/save CSS changes made by Firebug. Meaning you use Firebug to ID and maybe test changes, but it does not let you save the changes from Firebug. Here's a "how to" covering how to use them together: FF + FB + WD @Lèse majesté: Still playing around with FireDiff. It works okay, found one bug already (although I'm just working around it), and there's no "how to" I've been able to find, so I'm just trying every feature and clicking around... (for example, to export a diff you must be over the last item in the list, right click, and select as "Save Diff". The ".diff" is just a text file, no idea why at this point the ext is .diff.

  Hi all, We are quite stuck with which solution to choose for this backup issue: What should happen: First, there should be an interface were to choose several sql databases (sort of checkboxes or whatsoever), also a few folders should be backed up - this could be part of the program or could be seperate, I think about an interface were to select folders, but a txt file (or xml) with paths-to-folders is as good. Next, everything should be 7Zipped, SQL-DB and files seperate. Eventually everything should be copied to a local network drive after which copied via FTP. Also important; it could be programmed or (partly) bought but I can't be one of those expensive backup tools $1000+ etc. I already found this fairly priced tool that does already most of the tasks 7ZIP and copy to ftp sqlbackupandftp.com For your information: we had a kind of self-made tool created by a collegue (some time ago) but it became very untrustworthy and as the databases grew it couldn't handle it anymore... moving on Please come up with suggestions. I am pleased to say that it incorporates the generic version of a fix, I originated that allows projects including Crystal Reports to be documented.Here is the relevant passage from the help file:"The default configuration for MRefBuilder has been updated to ignore the Crystal Reports licensing assembly (BusinessObjects.Licensing.KeycodeDecoder) if it fails to get resolved. This assembly does not appear to be available and ignoring it prevents projects that include Crystal Reports assemblies from failing and being unbuildable."There are many other fixes. • Build vs Rebuild

  Build means compile and link only the source files that have changed since the last build, while Rebuild means compile and link all source files regardless of whether they changed or not. Build is the normal thing to do and is faster. Sometimes the versions of project target components can get out of sync and rebuild is necessary to make the build successful. In practice, you never need to Clean. Build or Rebuild Solution builds or rebuilds all projects in the your solution, while Build or Rebuild <project name> builds or rebuilds the StartUp project. To set the StartUp project, right click on the desired project name in the Solution Explorer tab and select Set as StartUp project. The project name now appears in bold. Compile just compiles the source file currently being edited. Useful to quickly check for errors when the rest of your source files are in an incomplete state that would prevent a successful build of the entire project. Ctrl-F7 is the shortcut key for Compile. All source files that have changed are saved when you request a build/rebuild, so you don't have to save them first. When you run your executable (F5 or Ctrl-F5), Visual Studio saves all your changed source files and builds anything that changed, so you don't need to explicitly do those steps every time. This allows for quick "trial and error" debugging. • Cutting out smaller rectangles from a larger rectangle

  The world is initially a rectangle. The player can move on the world border and then "cut" the world via orthogonal paths (not oblique). When the player reaches the border again I have a list of path segments they just made. I'm trying to calculate and compare the two areas created by the path cut and select the smaller one to remove it from world. After the first iteration, the world is no longer a rectangle and player must move on border of this new shape. How can I do this? Is it possible to have a non rectangular path? How can I move the player character only on path? EDIT Here you see an example of what I'm trying to achieve: Initial screen layout. Character moves inside the world and than reaches the border again. Segment of the border present in the smaller area is deleted and last path becomes part of the world border. Character moves again inside the world. Segments of border present in the smaller area are deleted etc.

• How can I get my Sapphire Radeon 7850 to output in "1080p"?

  I have a Radeon 7850 connected to a Vizio 3D compatible TV. The TV has a function to parse and display SBS encoded content. On my old graphics card (a Radeon 5770) I just had to select the 1080p option in the catalyst control center. In this mode my TV reported the output mode as "1080p", with the new card the TV reports "1920x1080". I cannot figure out what the difference in between the 2 signals but the "1920x1080" cannot be switched into 3D mode by the TV. Weirdly, before windows starts the (in the Bios and so forth) the computer outputs in "1080p" so I know the card is capable of it. As soon as the blue login screen comes up though it changes back to the "1920x1080". I've tried everthing I can think of. Updated my drivers from 13.3b3 to 13.4, then even tried the 13.5 beta (Which I'm still on this moment). Tried all the "optimized" HD settings in catalyst, even the 720p modes show the resolution from the TV and not the "720p" (which it used to do on the old card when I had to lower the resolution of games)

• Why does diskpart set the volume attributes on all volumes?

  I was trying to migrate a Win7 OS from a HDD to a SSD. I've created 2 partition with 1024KB offset, with diskpart: 100MB System Reserved and a 60GB for C:. I've cloned their contents using Easeus Disk Copy. I've loaded the Windows 7 Boot DVD, and wanted to use diskpart to drop the letter for the System Reserved partition and make it hidden. select volume 0 detail volume attribute volume set nodefaultdriveletter attribute volume set hidden These 2 attribute set commands actioned on both volumes (0 and 1, MSR and C:) instead of the selected one, and viceversa. I've tried to clear these attributes from volume 1, but it cleared them also from volume 0. Why does DiskPart have this behaviour?

• How to get cluster information remotely via Powershell?

  I've been trying to find a good way to gather various pieces of a windows cluster setup remotely, preferably via WMI, as we are not yet at a point where Powershell remoting is implemented (and I know this problem goes away with that). I know I can use the following to get the current node: Get-WmiObject Win32_ComputerSystem -ComputerName RemoteServer1 | Select Name I also need the name property of Get-Cluster, which I can't figure out how to get from a remote system. Is there something out there, or should I wait it out until Remoting gets implemented? I'm a newbie to all things clustering, just a dba looking to inventory our servers properly. • Joomla: Cross site link boxes

  I am currently evaluating Joomla for use on the the rebuild of our corporate website. One of the features our designs have is spaces for what we've been calling widgets. These widgets include common ones for each page, contact us boxes, section navigation, that all seem pretty easy to implement. The other widgets we would us to highlight specific pages within the site relevant to the one you are on, and are therefore different for each article. We've called these link widgets and these are a pretty common site on many websites. I'm honestly at a bit of a loss as to how to do this with Joomla. From a CMS perspective I'd like to allow users to just select which three link widgets they want when editing the article and have some way of creating the widgets within the CMS as well. Editing the link widget would allow setting a title, a bit of text and selecting the page that it links to. Am I going to be able to do this with Joomla, and if I can roughly how to I go about it ?

  I have a Word VBA macro that loops through a directory and writes down the file path of files selected for some criteria into a new Word document. Works well as plain text (as part of a loop): wdDocResults.Content.InsertAfter objFile.Path & Chr(13) However, I'd like them to be hyperlinks. The following works as single macro, but when called from within another script, it does nothing at all (no matter if path is provided as variable or string, or as H:... or \\MyServernameAsNetDrive...): ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=Selection.Range, Address:= objFile.Path, _ SubAddress:="", ScreenTip:="", TextToDisplay:=objFile.Path If try to select the current line in order to make sure something is selected at the right place -- error: out of memory": wrdDocResults.Content.InsertAfter objFil.Path Selection.Expand wdLine ActiveDocument.Hyperlinks.Add Anchor:=Selection.Range, Address:= objFile.Path, _ SubAddress:="", ScreenTip:="", TextToDisplay:=objFile.Path I also tried inserting a string resembling the Hyperlink field code ({ Hyperlink "..." }, which is of course not recognized... • Cisco ASA - Unable to create "range" type of network object on 8.2

  I'm wanting to block a range of ip addresses on my Cisco ASA 5520 (8.2) using ASDM 6.4. In the help files/cisco documentation, it says, just create a network object with a "range" type, and use that in a blocking access rule... When I'm accessing the ASA (8.2) with ASDM 6.4, I go to configfirewallobjectnetwork objects & groups, then click "add" to add the IP range as a "network object", I get the following 4 fields to fill out: Name: IP address: Netmask: Description: That's all... In the context-sensitive help files, it says that there should be a Type drop-down to select, with "range" being one of the options, but there is no "Type" drop-down list... If I try to create a "network object group" instead of just "network object", then I get a "Type" drop down list, but it only contains two options: network & host (No "Range" option here either) Can someone help me figure out how to block a range of IP's, using the current 8.2 version on the ASA? • replace controller, add second controller, or use expander?

  I have a Proliant DL380 G6 that I am re-purposing as a Hyper-V host for a new, off-site data center that will host our DR services. The server currently has a P410i controller with the 512MB BBWC module. The drives installed are SFF 6G 10K drives. I plan to add the HP 516914-B21 drive cage, which gives me 8 more SFF drives, bringing the total to 16. To get the additional 8 drives connected, I have one of three choices: Install a new controller that can support 16 drives. Install a second controller. Install a SAS expander, such as the HP 468406-B21 recommended by HP's spec sheet for my server. My question is: how do I know if I'm going hit a performance ceiling by putting 16 drives on the P410i or using the expander? And if I am, how do I select an appropriate controller? I'm not sure what specifications I should be looking at.

• SCSI driver installation trouble

  I tried to install the driver of Adaptec 39320A-Ultra 320 SCSI card in Win2003 Server R2 SP2 in a DELL PowerEdge 2950 Server. I selected the driver from the list of drivers present in windows. But it says that the device could not be started(Code 10). I tried to put the card in a system that already had the driver installed. It worked fine. So there is no problem with the hardware. I even tried downloading the driver from the manufacturer website. When I try to select install from path and install that driver, it tell no matching driver found. When I install the default driver from windows, it shows the card in SCSI group of device manager, but with an ! symbol. Also the device ID in driver details was different from that of the one present in other system where it insalled fine. Any suggessions to solve it?

• Weird windows quirk when renaming file

  Hi, I am finding when I try to rename a file in windows 7, i typically select the file i want to rename, hit F2 (rename) and type the new name. I've been getting this weird bug which the while file name gets selected again, sometimes right in the middle of me typing. I can sit there and watch it reselect the entire filename every second or so as if someone is invisibly hitting control+a while type. I have tried making sure that my keys aren't being pressed, and also have even gotten a new keyboard and this problem still consists. I know it'll probably be a long shot, but just hoping someone's seen this issue and has a resolution. UPDATE: This is on a desktop machine, not a laptop, so there's no issue with Trackpad.
