  • problem creating object "wscript.shell"

    - by sushant
my script looks like: Dim WshShell, oExec Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") Set oExec = WshShell.Exec("cmd /c cd D:\d & D: & winzip32.exe -min -a D:\a") Do While oExec.Status = 0 WScript.Sleep 100 Loop WScript.Echo oExec.Status The idea was to use explorer to open these files. The problem I'm having though is on the line: Set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell") I keep getting the message ActiveX component can't create object: 'WScript.Shell' I'm totally confused because this exact same code runs fine if I write it in a .htm file. Why does my browser treat my .asp page differently than the .html file? How do i fix this problem?

  • JMenuBar dropping down to a "custom" JPanel and "erased"

    - by Jani
The JMenuItems of JMenuBar drops down to a JPanel added to the JFrame, but the JPanel erases the JMenuItems. Do I supposed to pause the re-drawing of the JPanel? I'm using getGraphics() on the JPanel for drawing an image, this method is called from a thread with (for example) 200 ms delay. edit: It's a (very simple) game inside the JPanel. (I've added a field "paused" to the JPanel and i've edited the paint method so it repaints the JPanel only if paused is false, however I don't know if this "solution" is good. (It's set to true when the user clicks on a menu and set to false when selects or cancels it.)

  • Open source license for test code

    - by Gary
I'm creating a project to house an iPhone library for common code for the iPhone... essentially it's a library that'll save people from finding solutions to common problems that amount to copying and pasting snippets of code. The site is located here: http://code.google.com/p/devkit-bb/ I licensed it under Eclipse, because fosters the extension of the library without requiring constraints like LGPL on object files being provided/made available, which would be the case since everything is statically linked. What I'm wondering is how/what license to apply to the unit tests? Since they essentially demonstrate how to use various interfaces and components. Thus they're designed for potential copy and paste situations, and I don't want people who might end up using this as part of the building blocks of their environment to feel like the license would prohibit that "derivative work", ie. their application or game.

  • In R, when using named rows, can a sparse matrix column be added to another sparse matrix?

    - by ayman
    I have two sparse matrices, m1 and m2: > m1 <- Matrix(data=0,nrow=2, ncol=1, sparse=TRUE, dimnames=list(c("b","d"),NULL)) > m2 <- Matrix(data=0,nrow=2, ncol=1, sparse=TRUE, dimnames=list(c("a","b"),NULL)) > m1["b",1]<- 4 > m2["a",1]<- 5 > m1 2 x 1 sparse Matrix of class "dgCMatrix" b 4 d . > m2 2 x 1 sparse Matrix of class "dgCMatrix" a 5 b . > and I want to cbind() them to make a sparse matrix like: [,1] [,2] a . 5 b 4 . d . . however cbind() ignores the named rows: > cbind(m1[,1],m2[,1]) [,1] [,2] b 4 5 d 0 0 is there some way to do this without a brute force loop?

  • Canvas context used but not updated on canvas

    - by John Doe
I am developing an small html5 game, where I have the following code: if(object.blocks){ var blocks = object.blocks, that = this; each(blocks, function(index){ that.blocks.push(new Block(this[index])); }); } I receive an object with some configuration and instantiate blocks with it. It works fine, but the Block class has an method, called draw: this.draw = function (ctx){ if(ctx){ var colors = ['#FF0000','#FFFF00','#0000FF','#00FF00'], color = Math.round(Math.random() * colors.length-1); ctx.fillStyle = colors[color]; ctx.fillRect(this.x,this.y,this.width,this.height); } }; It was working before I moved it into the Block class, but now it draws nothing. This is the code that calls draw: render: function(ctx){ each(this.blocks, function(index){ this[index].draw(ctx); }); } The context comes from the html page, from the main canvas.

  • Base64 Encode String in VBScript

    - by Patrick Cuff
I have a web service load driver that's a Windows Script File (WSF), that includes some VBScript and JavaScript files. My web service requires that the incoming message is base64 encoded. I currently have a VBScript function that does this, but it's very inefficient (memory intensive, mostly due to VBScripts awful string concatenation) [Aside; Yes, I've seen Jeff's latest blog post. The concatenation is happening in a loop across messages that are 1,000's to 10,000's bytes in size.] I've tried using some custom string concatenation routines; one using an array and one using ADODB.Stream. These help, a little, but I think it would help more if I had some other way of encoding the message rather than via my own VBS function. Is there some other way of encoding my message, preferebly using native Windows methods?

  • Java :moving ball with angle ?

    - by Meko
Hi all.I am started to learn game physics and I am trying to move ball with an angle. But it does not change its angle .Java coordinate sydstem is a little different and i think my problem is there. Here my codes this is for calculating x and y speed scale_X= Math.sin(angle); scale_Y=Math.cos(angle); velosity_X=(speed*scale_X); velosity_Y=(speed*scale_Y); This is for moving ball in run() function ball.posX =ball.posX+(int)velosity_X; ball.posY=ball.posY+(int)velosity_Y; I used (int)velosity_X and (int)velosity_Y because in ball class I draw object g.drawOval(posX, posX, width, height); and here g.drawOval requares int.I dont know is it problem or not. Also if I use angle 30 it goes +X and +Y but if I use angle 35 it goes -X and -Y. I didnot figure out how work coordinate system on java.

    <?php $sql = " SELECT e.*, l.counts AS l_counts, l.date AS l_date, lo.counts AS lo_counts, lo.date AS lo_date FROM employee e LEFT JOIN logs l ON l.employee_id = e.employee_id LEFT JOIN logout lo ON lo.employee_id = e.employee_id WHERE e.employee_id =" .(int)$_GET['salary']; $query = mysql_query($sql); $rows = mysql_fetch_array($query); while($countlog = $rows['l_counts']) { echo $countlog; } echo $rows['first_name']; echo $rows['last_name_name']; ?> I got what I want to my first_name and last_name(get only 1 results). The l_counts I wanted to loop that thing but the result is not stop counting until my pc needs to restart. LoL. How can I get the exact result of that? I only need to get the exact results of l_counts. Thank you Jordan Pagaduan

  • JSlider jump on mouse click

    - by Aly
Hi, I have a JSlider which shows bet sizes (for a poker game) I am trying to achieve the effect that when a mouse click occurs the slider jumps forward by a bet amount (i.e. a big blind amount) rather than just incrementing by one. If the mouse click happens to the left of the bar i want it to decrement by a fixed amount else increment. I looked into attaching a mouse listener, but do not know how I can use the event to find out on what side of the bar the mouse was clicked. Any ideas?

  • How to manually render a Django template for an inlineformset_factory with can_delete = True / False

    - by chefsmart
I have an inlineformset with a custom Modelform. So it looks something like this: MyInlineFormSet = inlineformset_factory(MyMainModel, MyInlineModel, form=MyCustomInlineModelForm) I am rendering this inlineformset manually in a template so that I have more control over widgets and javascript. So I go in a loop like {% for form in myformset.forms %} and then manually render each field as described on this page http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/forms/#customizing-the-form-template The formset has can_delete = True or can_delete = False depending on whether the user is creating new objects or editing existing ones. Question is, how do I manually render the can_delete checkbox?

  • LuaInterface and 64Bit

    - by Skintkingle
Ok i'm currently using LuaScript v5.1 in a Game engine i'm using. and the handy LuaInterface that comes along with it. i've tested it on a range of systems running a range of OS's. LuaInterface seems to fail on 64bit Operating Systems. Could anyone point me to a 64bit Compiled LuaInterface.dll, or is there any alternative to the LuaInterface that can be used, because LuaInterface is extremely useful and i dont think i would be able to write a more extensive interface by myself using lua51. (I'm not that good, sadly) Any help or links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot guys!

  • No speed-up with useless printf's using OpenMP

    - by t2k32316
I just wrote my first OpenMP program that parallelizes a simple for loop. I ran the code on my dual core machine and saw some speed up when going from 1 thread to 2 threads. However, I ran the same code on a school linux server and saw no speed-up. After trying different things, I finally realized that removing some useless printf statements caused the code to have significant speed-up. Below is the main part of the code that I parallelized: #pragma omp parallel for private(i) for(i = 2; i <= n; i++) { printf("useless statement"); prime[i-2] = is_prime(i); } I guess that the implementation of printf has significant overhead that OpenMP must be duplicating with each thread. What causes this overhead and why can OpenMP not overcome it?

  • Generating a list of Strings in Obj C

    - by eco_bach
Hi It seems that Objective C jumps thru hoops to make seemingly simple tasks extremely difficult. I simply need to create a sequence of strings, image1.jpg, image2.jpg, etc etc ie in a loop var imgString:String='image'+i+'.jpg; I assume a best practice is to use a NSMutableString with appendString method? What am I doing wrong?? NSMutableString *imgString; for(int i=1;i<=NUMIMAGES;i++){ imgString.appendString(@"image"+i+@".jpg"); } I get the following error error: request for member 'appendString' in something not a structure or union

  • How to get index using LINQ?

    - by codymanix
Given a datasource like that: var c = new Car[] { new Car{ Color="Blue", Price=28000}, new Car{ Color="Red", Price=54000}, new Car{ Color="Pink", Price=9999}, // .. }; How can I find the index of the first car satisfying a certain condition with LINQ? EDIT: I could think of something like this but it looks horrible: int firstItem = someItems.Select((item, index) => new { ItemName = item.Color, Position = index }).Where(i => i.ItemName == "purple") .First() .Position; Will it be the best to solve this with a plain old loop?

  • options for producing audio with GWT

    - by Kaffeine Coma
What options are there for producing audio in a GWT app? I'm thinking of making a simple game, but I'm disappointed to see that there's still not much progress on audio support directly in GWT (yes, I realize that's largely due to lack of underlying browser support; looking forward to HTML5!) This blog post says that "audio support in GWT is rapidly evolving", yet I don't see updates in over a year, at least not at that site. It seems these are the available options: GWT Voices GWT SoundManager GWT Sound GWT Incubator I believe most of these (all of them?) rely on Flash to produce audio. I'm most inclined to go with the GWT Incubator, as that's where features slated for inclusion in GWT get started, but I've no real recommendations to go on. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with any of these libraries, thanks.

  • Statistical approach to chess?

    - by Chinmay Kanchi
Reading about how Google solves the translation problem got me thinking. Would it be possible to build a strong chess engine by analysing several million games and determining the best possible move based largely (completely?) on statistics? There are several such chess databases (this is one that has 4.5 million games), and one could potentially weight moves in identical (or mirrored or reflected) positions using factors such as the ratings of the players involved, how old the game is (to factor in improvements in chess theory) etc. Any reasons why this wouldn't be a feasible approach to building a chess engine?

  • as3 loops and event listeners

    - by Ross
    I have an array that returns multidimensional data from an mysql database, when this is collected the createNews function creates the user interface. The problem I am having is the loop is iterating quicker than the ui is being created, is there a way to use event listeners with loops so it only continues after my function has completed its work. Any solutions or ideas are much appreciated; Thanks, R. var t:Array = responds.serverInfo.initialData; for (var i:uint = 0; i < t.length; i++) { var date = t[i][1]; var newstitle = t[i][2]; var story= t[i][3]; var image = t[i][4]; createNews(date, newstitle, story, image); }

  • Looping over files - OpenCMS

    - by John Manak
Hi! I'm developing a website using OpenCMS and am having a problem with creating links to files over which I loop using cms:contentload: <cms:contentload collector="allInFolder" param="faqs/|FaqFile" editable="false"> <b><a href="${opencms.filename}"><cms:contentshow element="Title" /></a></b><br /> </cms:contentload> This is a part of the index.jsp file. All the links unfortunately lead to index.jsp and not to the individual FAQ files. Do you know how to change this so that it works as expected? Thanks, John

  • Why is thread local storage so slow?

    - by dsimcha
I'm working on a custom mark-release style memory allocator for the D programming language that works by allocating from thread-local regions. It seems that the thread local storage bottleneck is causing a huge (~50%) slowdown in allocating memory from these regions compared to an otherwise identical single threaded version of the code, even after designing my code to have only one TLS lookup per allocation/deallocation. This is based on allocating/freeing memory a large number of times in a loop, and I'm trying to figure out if it's an artifact of my benchmarking method. My understanding is that thread local storage should basically just involve accessing something through an extra layer of indirection, similar to accessing a variable via a pointer. Is this incorrect? How much overhead does thread-local storage typically have? Note: Although I mention D, I'm also interested in general answers that aren't specific to D, since D's implementation of thread-local storage will likely improve if it is slower than the best implementations.

  • Adding a drop down menu with jquery

    - by Pete Herbert Penito
Hi everyone! Here's the situation I have a webpage which has one drop down called prefer. I wanted the user to be able to choose one option and then have a link next to it called "Add" which generates another textbox with the same options, i was going to use jquery to show an additional drop down. But if possible I wanted to put the select box in an array and then loop through this process infinitely. so I could call select name="prefer[]" and somehow put in a variable which increases. Afterwards, I could use php to cycle through the array and utilize each one. Could I do this with Javascript somehow?

  • Performance of DrawingVisual vs Canvas.OnRender for lots of constantly changing shapes

    - by romkyns
I'm working on a game-like app which has up to a thousand shapes (ellipses and lines) that constantly change at 60fps. Having read an excellent article on rendering many moving shapes, I implemented this using a custom Canvas descendant that overrides OnRender to do the drawing via a DrawingContext. The performance is quite reasonable, although the CPU usage stays high. However, the article suggests that the most efficient approach for constantly moving shapes is to use lots of DrawingVisual instances instead of OnRender. Unfortunately though it doesn't explain why that should be faster for this scenario. Changing the implementation in this way is not a small effort, so I'd like to understand the reasons and whether they are applicable to me before deciding to make the switch. Why could the DrawingVisual approach result in lower CPU usage than the OnRender approach in this scenario?

  • C++ project type: unicode vs multi-byte; pros and cons

    - by Stefan Valianu
I'm wondering what the Stack Overflow community thinks when it comes to creating a project (thinking primarily c++ here) with a unicode or a multi-byte character set. Are there pros to going Unicode straight from the start, implying all your strings will be in wide format? Are there performance issues / larger memory requirements because of a standard use of a larger character? Is there an advantage to this method? Do some processor architectures handle wide characters better? Are there any reasons to make your project Unicode if you don't plan on supporting additional languages? What reasons would one have for creating a project with a multi-byte character set? How do all of the factors above collide in a high performance environment (such as a modern video game) ?

  • NSURLConnection still calls delegate AFTER cancel method has been called

    - by Shizam
Hi All, Having a problem with NSURLConnection, if I create a NSURLConnection and call [connection connectionWithRequest] let it load a little then call [connection cancel] most of the time that works fine. However occasionally even after I call [connection cancel] the connection's delegate still gets called (which crashes the app). Googling around it looks like the problem here is a race condition in the runloop, I cancel the connection and release the delegate but before the runloop cycles it calls the delegate functions - crash. Is there a way for me to, after I call [connection cancel] confirm the connection has actually canceled? Even a crappy while() loop will do :(

  • Load a Settings.settings into ListView?

    - by clefranc
Hi, I've managed to save ListView items to a System.Collections.Specialized.StringCollection property settings using this LINQ one liner: My.Settings.Property1.AddRange(ListView1.Items.Cast(Of ListViewItem)().[Select](Function(a) String.Join(Convert.ToChar(Keys.Tab), a.SubItems.Cast(Of System.Windows.Forms.ListViewItem.ListViewSubItem)().[Select](Function(s) s.Text).ToArray())).ToArray()) Now, I want to do the opposite, ie load the ListView1 from the My.Settings.Property1. It's fairly easy to do using a For Each loop, but I wonder if someone can show me a similar LINQ query. The lines in My.Settings.Property1 looks like this (Tab separated): Word1 Word2 Word3 Word4 Word5 Word6 Original code is from this answer: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2295068/show-listview-items-in-a-combobox
