  • Can I ping via an arbitrary interface of a DD-WRT system?

    There's a Linksys WRT54GL router with DD-WRT firmware (v23SP2). The network has a simple dual-WAN configuration (standby mode, switching by a script): ~ # ip route 192.168.3.0/24 dev br0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.3.1 192.168.2.0/24 dev vlan2 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.2.2 192.168.1.0/24 dev vlan1 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.67 127.0.0.0/8 dev lo scope link default via 192.168.2.1 dev vlan2 I'm trying to ping a certain server arbitrary via vlan1 or vlan2. What I tried, as suggested here: ping -I vlan2 <address> ping 192.168.2.1 <address> In both cases ping simply exits with no error messages. Also, ping ignores many other parameters, again, by exiting silently. I failed to find any references that DD-WRT has a limited version of ping whatsoever. I also don't think it can be a permissions issue as mentioned here since the only user with DD-WRT is root. What's wrong?

  • A "tinkered" PC can ping by IP, not by hostname. How to fix?

The graphical connection manager also refuses to work thanks to the tinkering. It also makes route add default gw 192.168.0.1 necessary for each reboot to atleast ping by IP. How do I fix this?     I'm trying to think about the best way to handle group memberships on a website. People sign up and select checkboxes in a list of interests. Every week we send out interest-themed emails to those members that indicated that interest. however i store the information in the database, while i am working with the lists and generating lists of email addresses or manipulating group memberships, the composite design pattern looked interesting. it would be easy to populate the group, then do some aggregating functions that say... generate the list of email addresses based on the interests. but i'm not sure i'm seeing any other advantages. i do need something scalable, and flexible. thoughts?

What you do is, open the view in SharePoint Designer, then you click on the field you wish to see the ECB menu in, then you will see a little floatie button with this on it ">", then, you click on that floatie, and it shows a little popup with 2 checkboxes in it. The other laptop is stuck hanging at connecting to the Internet I have the SSID set as "Pedro-Home" and is using a WPA PSK secured password. I have set the router using "Blaze-PC" while wired.   • Cannot open any web page, but MSN Messenger works

    I use my computer behind a router. My MSN program can connect to the Internet, but I can not open any web site with my web browser. It seems that this problem is related to DNS because when I input an IP address directly in the address bar of my web browser, the web page can be displayed. However, I don't know how to fix this problem. I choose Google Public DNS server on my computer, this problem still exists. My OS is windows XP. How to fix this problem? Any ideas?

  • wrong GNOME logo at startup after 12.04 upgrade

    I'm not too expert of Ubuntu, but after a quite painful upgrade to version 12.04 (from 11.10), which first required to reinstall wireless drivers in order to work properly, and after an update from the Update Manager that I ran soon after the upgrade, I have a very strange problem coming up: at login page, where you choose your user among the list of the available ones, I can also see the list of available IDEs (Gnome, Gnome classic, Unity, Unity 2d, etc) but the funny thing is that the classic "foot" logo normally associated to the GNOME selection has now disappeared, and instead the "gear" logo (the one normally related to Unity, is on the side of the "gnome" choice. Note that the foot logo remains associated to the Gnome Classic item, and that the "gear" logo is still associated to the various versions of Unity available. This is not serious, since I can still access my GNOME or Unity environment, but I wonder if I can fix this up.

  • Assisting a user using VNC

    I'm trying to help a friend with their computer remotely. He has a version of VNC, I'm not sure which one, so I downloaded and installed the VNC Viewer and Listening Viewer. I ask my friend for his IP address and port number, and he tells me that every time he's used it, the person giving him assistance (remotely controlling his computer) gave him some kind of number. I should note that my friend is not tech savy, and it may have been an IP address, but I'm not sure. What kind of number would the user be looking for? Does this indicate his version of VNC, Does that even matter? I am completly forign to VNC and don't know where to begin looking for an answer myself, and (for whatever reason) I can't ask my friend to figure out what version of VNC he is using.

This is new for me: IF I need to create a second server called "server2.domain2.com", then please tell exactly how since I'm only experienced with one server per VPS. Whether "server2.domain2.com" needs to be created or not, here is exactly what is needed: # Mail being sent from domains using ns1.example.com needs to be sent from that server and that IP.     I have an Apache (2.2) serving a web-app on example.com. That web-app has a debug-page reachable via example.com/debug. /debug is currently protected with a HTTP basic auth. As there is only a very small user-base who has access to the debug-page, I would like to hide it based on IP address and return 404 to clients not accessing from our VPN. Serving a 404 based on IP-address only is easy and is described in http://serverfault.com/a/13071. But as soon I add authentication, the users see a 401 instead of a 404. Basically, what I need is: if ($REMOTE_ADDR ~ 10.11.12.*): do_basic_auth (aka return 401) else: return 404

The logs contain large amounts of this kind of entries, which makes the Event Viewer slow and it's difficult to find the more interesting logs. How do I make sure these messages don't end up in the event logs?

    We use a Barracuda Spam Filter at work, and we also provide a mass emailing program to some of clients that send out newsletters. Lately one of them's been composing his latest company newsletter and has been trying to send preview messages to himself, but they've actually been quarantined by Barracuda as potential spam, even though they aren't. I can see the breakdown of the spam scoring headers in Barracuda, but I'm not sure what certain rules mean.   • How can I backup my PPAs?

But my concern is that over the past year, most of my more interesting (or used) applications are from PPAs, and just backing up my sources list won't add the associated launchpad keys the way that add-apt-repository does. So I'm looking for a way to list all the PPA urls (like ppa:chromium-daily/stable) so that I can easily script a series of add-apt-repository commands to add them into a new installation gracefully. Short of dumping my bash history of course. Which might be feasible, depending on how far back that file goes back?

I can boot in to ubuntu, but i can't boot into windows 7, its shows error A disk read error occured Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart . then am configured BIOS again to load windows 7 first, it shows windows 7 and ubuntu in the boot list, windows 7 is working, but i can't boot into ubuntu.. Help to solve this problem.. i want dual boot from any one of the drive...

Here is the Minidump: Bug Check Code = 0x00000124 Caused By Driver = ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Crash Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Seems to be hardware problem, but I checked RAM, no error. I have two HDs installed, system is on SSD, data is on HDD. Checked SSD with the properties-tools-error-checking , no error. Re-installed several times, still happens even after removed HDD. Configuration: SSD: Crucial M4-CT064M4SSD2 with Firmware 0009 Intel HM65 CPU: i7-2630QM The SSD is set correctly, SATA III 6Gb/s enabled, and everything worked perfectly for nearly a year.

    I have written a program which records protocol messages between an application and a hardware device which matches each application request with each hardware response. This is so that I can later remove the hardware, connect a 'replay' application to the main application and wait for an application request and reply with a matched copy of the requisite hardware reply message. My replay application saves the matched request/response in a list (using C++ std::list). This works fine on a small interaction session. My problem now is that I need to be able to use the replay over a long long session. With my current implementation, the replay program eventually uses up all available memory on my computer and crashes. So I need some sort of lookahead - and not parse the whole session in one go. Can anyone make any suggestions on how to get started?

    I have the following environment: In company X I develop a application on a pc A in network A with ip address 192.168.100.50 which has to do an https request to an http server located in the intranet of company Y In company X is another pc B in network B with ip address 192.168.200.100 pc B (of company X) can access the intranet from company Y via ssh tunnel (putty) pc A (of company X) can ping pc B (of company X) note: pc A can also do a remote desktop connection to pc B) pc B can ping the http sever pc A can not ping the http server How can the https request from pc A of company X get to the http server of company Y? On which pc must be putty configured? And which settings for host, port forwarding etc. has to be done in putty? So finally the https request should go from PC A - PC B - Http Server in company Y.

  • Find Nearest Object

    I have a fairly sizable game engine created, and I'm adding some needed features, such as this, how do I find the nearest object from a list of points? In this case, I could simply use the Pythagorean theorem to find the distance, and check the results. I know I can't simply add x and y, because that's the distance to the object, if you only took right angle turns. However I'm wondering if there's something else I could do? I also have a collision system, where essentially I turn objects into smaller objects on a smaller grid, kind of like a minimap, and only if objects exist in the same gridspace do I check for collisions, I could do the same thing, only make the gridspace larger to check for closeness. (rather than checking every. single. object) however that would take additional setup in my base class and clutter up the already cluttered object. TL;DR Question: Is there something efficient and accurate that I can use to detect which object is closest, based on a list of points and sizes?

Tried ping C and traceroute and found the gw addr at my side is some 63.103.236.3(D), so added another entry route add -host C gw D wlan0, I was able to do this without any error! */
