  • Would you store binary data in database or in file system?

    - by paul
    This is a question which has been asked before (large-text-and-images-in-sql) but mainly for data which will be changed. In my case the data will be stored and never changed. Just seems sensible to keep everything together. Are there any reasons why I should not store static binary data in a database? Assuming it is a sensible thing to do, are there any advantages to storing such data in separate tables? (You might begin to realise now that I'm not a DB expert...) Clarify: There will probably be no more than 10-20 users but these will be in the US and in the UK. The binary data will have to be transfered in any case.

  • Java AD Authentication across Trusted Domains

    - by benjiisnotcool
    I am trying to implement Active Directory authentication in Java which will be ran from a Linux machine. Our AD set-up will consist of multiple servers that share trust relationships with one another so for our test environment we have two domain controllers: test1.ad1.foo.com who trusts test2.ad2.bar.com. Using the code below I can successfully authenticate a user from test1 but not on test2: public class ADDetailsProvider implements ResultSetProvider { private String domain; private String user; private String password; public ADDetailsProvider(String user, String password) { //extract domain name if (user.contains("\\")) { this.user = user.substring((user.lastIndexOf("\\") + 1), user.length()); this.domain = user.substring(0, user.lastIndexOf("\\")); } else { this.user = user; this.domain = ""; } this.password = password; } /* Test from the command line */ public static void main (String[] argv) throws SQLException { ResultSetProvider res = processADLogin(argv[0], argv[1]); ResultSet results = null; res.assignRowValues(results, 0); System.out.println(argv[0] + " " + argv[1]); } public boolean assignRowValues(ResultSet results, int currentRow) throws SQLException { // Only want a single row if (currentRow >= 1) return false; try { ADAuthenticator adAuth = new ADAuthenticator(); LdapContext ldapCtx = adAuth.authenticate(this.domain, this.user, this.password); NamingEnumeration userDetails = adAuth.getUserDetails(ldapCtx, this.user); // Fill the result set (throws SQLException). while (userDetails.hasMoreElements()) { Attribute attr = (Attribute)userDetails.next(); results.updateString(attr.getID(), attr.get().toString()); } results.updateInt("authenticated", 1); return true; } catch (FileNotFoundException fnf) { Logger.getAnonymousLogger().log(Level.WARNING, "Caught File Not Found Exception trying to read cris_authentication.properties"); results.updateInt("authenticated", 0); return false; } catch (IOException ioe) { Logger.getAnonymousLogger().log(Level.WARNING, "Caught IO Excpetion processing login"); results.updateInt("authenticated", 0); return false; } catch (AuthenticationException aex) { Logger.getAnonymousLogger().log(Level.WARNING, "Caught Authentication Exception attempting to bind to LDAP for [{0}]", this.user); results.updateInt("authenticated", 0); return true; } catch (NamingException ne) { Logger.getAnonymousLogger().log(Level.WARNING, "Caught Naming Exception performing user search or LDAP bind for [{0}]", this.user); results.updateInt("authenticated", 0); return true; } } public void close() { // nothing needed here } /** * This method is called via a Postgres function binding to access the * functionality provided by this class. */ public static ResultSetProvider processADLogin(String user, String password) { return new ADDetailsProvider(user, password); } } public class ADAuthenticator { public ADAuthenticator() throws FileNotFoundException, IOException { Properties props = new Properties(); InputStream inStream = this.getClass().getClassLoader(). getResourceAsStream("com/bar/foo/ad/authentication.properties"); props.load(inStream); this.domain = props.getProperty("ldap.domain"); inStream.close(); } public LdapContext authenticate(String domain, String user, String pass) throws AuthenticationException, NamingException, IOException { Hashtable env = new Hashtable(); this.domain = domain; env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory); env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://" + test1.ad1.foo.com + ":" + 3268); env.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION, simple); env.put(Context.REFERRAL, follow); env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, (domain + "\\" + user)); env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, pass); // Bind using specified username and password LdapContext ldapCtx = new InitialLdapContext(env, null); return ldapCtx; } public NamingEnumeration getUserDetails(LdapContext ldapCtx, String user) throws NamingException { // List of attributes to return from LDAP query String returnAttributes[] = {"ou", "sAMAccountName", "givenName", "sn", "memberOf"}; //Create the search controls SearchControls searchCtls = new SearchControls(); searchCtls.setReturningAttributes(returnAttributes); //Specify the search scope searchCtls.setSearchScope(SearchControls.SUBTREE_SCOPE); // Specify the user to search against String searchFilter = "(&(objectClass=*)(sAMAccountName=" + user + "))"; //Perform the search NamingEnumeration answer = ldapCtx.search("dc=dev4,dc=dbt,dc=ukhealth,dc=local", searchFilter, searchCtls); // Only care about the first tuple Attributes userAttributes = ((SearchResult)answer.next()).getAttributes(); if (userAttributes.size() <= 0) throw new NamingException(); return (NamingEnumeration) userAttributes.getAll(); } From what I understand of the trust relationship, if trust1 receives a login attempt for a user in trust2, then it should forward the login attempt on to it and it works this out from the user's domain name. Is this correct or am I missing something or is this not possible using the method above? --EDIT-- The stack trace from the LDAP bind is {java.naming.provider.url=ldap://test1.ad1.foo.com:3268, java.naming.factory.initial=com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory, java.naming.security.authentication=simple, java.naming.referral=follow} 30-Oct-2012 13:16:02 ADDetailsProvider assignRowValues WARNING: Caught Authentication Exception attempting to bind to LDAP for [trusttest] Auth error is [LDAP: error code 49 - 80090308: LdapErr: DSID-0C0903A9, comment: AcceptSecurityContext error, data 52e, v1db0]

  • Passing page control from jscript to pagemethod in the codebehind?

    - by brandonprry
    Hi, I am looking write a javascript method as such called when a dropdownlist changes value function GetStuff(sender, destID){ var dest = document.getElementById(destID); this.PageMethods.GetStuffs(sender, dest, null, null); } GetStuffs() is in the Codebehind as follows: [WebMethod] public static void GetStuffs(object sender, object dest) { DropDownList s = sender as DropDownList; DropDownList d = dest as DropDownList; d.Items.Add(new ListItem(s.SelectedValue)); } I have a break point set at the method and alerts in the GetStuff() jscript method fire up until the PageMethod call, at which nothing happens. I have set OnSuccess and OnFailure methods up with alerts and they don't get fired. Any thoughts? Am I doing something inherently wrong?

  • Sharing base object with inheritance

    - by max
    I have class Base. I'd like to extend its functionality in a class Derived. I was planning to write: class Derived(Base): def __init__(self, base_arg1, base_arg2, derived_arg1, derived_arg2): super().__init__(base_arg1, base_arg2) # ... def derived_method1(self): # ... Sometimes I already have a Base instance, and I want to create a Derived instance based on it, i.e., a Derived instance that shares the Base object (doesn't re-create it from scratch). I thought I could write a static method to do that: b = Base(arg1, arg2) # very large object, expensive to create or copy d = Derived.from_base(b, derived_arg1, derived_arg2) # reuses existing b object but it seems impossible. Either I'm missing a way to make this work, or (more likely) I'm missing a very big reason why it can't be allowed to work. Can someone explain which one it is? [Of course, if I used composition rather than inheritance, this would all be easy to do. But I was hoping to avoid the delegation of all the Base methods to Derived through __getattr__.]

  • How can I keep doxygen from documenting #defines in a C file?

    - by Chris Nelson
    I have #define values in headers that I certainly want Doxygen to document but I have others in C files that I treat as static constants and I don't want Doxygen to document them. Something as simple and stupid as #define NUMBER_OF(a) (sizeof((a))/sizeof((a)[0])) #define MSTR(e) #e How can I keep Doxygen from putting those #defines in the documentation it creates? I've tried marking it with @internal but that didn't seem to help. A somewhat-related question on Doxygen and #define, how can I get: #define SOME_CONSTANT 1234 /**< An explanation */ to put "SOME_CONSTANT" and "An explanation" but not "1234" in the output?

  • How to convert Bitmap to byte[,,] faster?

    - by Miko Kronn
    I wrote function: public static byte[, ,] Bitmap2Byte(Bitmap image) { int h = image.Height; int w = image.Width; byte[, ,] result= new byte[w, h, 3]; for (int i = 0; i < w; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < h; j++) { Color c= image.GetPixel(i, j); result[i, j, 0] = c.R; result[i, j, 1] = c.G; result[i, j, 2] = c.B; } } return result; } But it takes almost 6 seconds to convert 1800x1800 image. Can I do this faster?

  • How to Get the F# Name of a Module, Function, etc. From Quoted Expression Match

    - by Stephen Swensen
    I continue to work on a printer for F# quoted expressions, it doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like to see what is possible. The active patterns in Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.Patterns and Microsoft.FSharp.Quotations.DerivedPatterns used for decomposing quoted expressions will typically provide MemberInfo instances when appropriate, these can be used to obtain the name of a property, function, etc. and their "declaring" type, such as a module or static class. The problem is, I only know how to obtain the CompiledName from these instances but I'd like the F# name. For example, > <@ List.mapi (fun i j -> i+j) [1;2;3] @> |> (function Call(_,mi,_) -> mi.DeclaringType.Name, mi.Name);; val it : string * string = ("ListModule", "MapIndexed") How can this match be rewritten to return ("List", "mapi")? Is it possible?

  • Get n Number of words using regex in Java

    - by Aymon Fournier
    I have a section of a book, complete with punctuation, line breaks etc. and I want to be able to extract the first n words from the text, and divide that into 5 parts. Regex mystifies me. This is what I am trying. I creates an array of index size 0, with all the input text: public static String getNumberWords2(String s, int nWords){ String[] m = s.split("([a-zA-Z_0-9]+\b.*?)", (nWords / 5)); return "Part One: \n" + m[1] + "\n\n" + "Part Two: \n" + m[2] + "\n\n" + "Part Three: \n" + m[3] + "\n\n" + "Part Four: \n" + m[4] + "\n\n" + "Part Five: \n" + m[5]; } Thanks!

  • Listing C/C++ functions (Code analysis in Unix)

    - by Jond
    Whether we're maintaining unfamiliar code or checking out the implementation details of an Apache module it can help if we can quickly traverse the code and build up an overview of what we're looking at. Grep serves most of my daily needs but there are some cases where it just wont do. Here's a common example of how it can help. To find the definition of a PHP function I'm interested in I can type this at the command line: grep -r "function myfunc" . This could be adapted very quickly to C or C++ if we know the return type, but things become more complicated if, say, I want to list every method that my class provides: grep "function " ./src/mine.class.php Since there's no single keyword that denotes a function or method in C++ and because it's generally more complex syntax, I think I'd need some kind of static code analysis tool, smart use of the C Preprocessor or blind faith the coder followed strict code guidelines (# of whitespace, position of curlies etc) to get these sorts of results. What would you recommend? p.s. be nice, this is my first post ;-) :p

  • How to parse JSON string that can be one of two different strongly typed objects?

    - by user852194
    Background: I'm invoking a web service method which returns a JSON string. This string can be of type ASConInfo or ASErrorResponse. Question: Using the DataContractJsonSerializer, how can I convert the returned JSON string to one of those objects? Thanks in advance I have tried the following technique, but it does not work: public static object test(string inputString) { object obj = null; using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes(inputString))) { DataContractJsonSerializer ser = new DataContractJsonSerializer(typeof(object)); obj = ser.ReadObject(ms) as object; } return obj; } [WebMethod] public string TypeChecker() { string str = "{\"Error\":191,\"ID\":\"112345678921212\",\"Length\":15}"; //string strErro = ""; object a = test(str); if (a is ASResponse) { return "ASResponse"; } if (a is ASErrorResponse) { return "ASErrorResponse"; } return "Nothing"; }

  • null pointer exception on list.add

    - by Eric
    I've been working on this one error for a few hours so I thought I'd pick the brains of some pros. I am getting a null pointer exception at the modelData.add(i, es) method. I know from debugging that es isn't null. I'm really confused, thanks. public class EventTableModel extends AbstractTableModel { //private int rowCount = 0; protected List<EventSeat> modelData; private static final int COLUMN_COUNT = 3; private Event e; Event j = GUIpos.m; int i = 1; public EventTableModel(Event e) { this.e = e; try { System.out.println(modelData); for (EventSeat es : e.getEventSeats()) { modelData.add(i, es); i++; } } catch (DataException ex) { Logger.getLogger(EventTableModel.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } }

  • Serialize an object to string

    - by Vaccano
    I have the following method to save an Object to a file: // Save an object out to the disk public static void SerializeObject<T>(this T toSerialize, String filename) { XmlSerializer xmlSerializer = new XmlSerializer(toSerialize.GetType()); TextWriter textWriter = new StreamWriter(filename); xmlSerializer.Serialize(textWriter, toSerialize); textWriter.Close(); } I confess I did not write it (I only converted it to a extension method that took a type parameter). Now I need it to give the xml back to me as a string (rather than save it to a file). I am looking into it, but I have not figured it out yet. I thought this might be really easy for someone familiar with these objects. If not I will figure it out eventually.

  • Understanding c++ block of code

    - by kotoko
    I was given a c++ main and have to code it so it works. I am having some trouble understanding the code as I am a bit new to cpp. Here is the code int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { Class::setAtribute("string"); Class(Class::CONSTANT) << "starting up..."; } Some questions: How can the first line work with no variables? Is it static? The second line is really strange for me, what I can make out is a Constructor that takes in a class constante and then prints it out somehow? If someone could explain me this bit of code it would be great! Thanks in advance.

  • Casting Class into String and Vice Versa in JAVA

    - by topgun_ivard
    I have a program in which I need to store a Class object into memory by casting it into String. Is it possible to convert the String back into the original Class so that I can use that class variables? I am doing this in JAVA. Example: test.java class hello{ public String h1; public String h2; } public class test { public static void main(String[] args) { hello h = new hello(); h.h1 = "hello"; h.h2 = "world"; String s = h.toString(); System.out.println("Print s : "+s); // Now I need to convert String s into type hello so that // I can do this: // (hello)s.h1; // (hello)s.h2; } } NOTE: this is not a homework, this is a personal project and I would be grateful if anyone can help! Thanks! Ivar

  • Replacing keywords in text with php & mysql

    - by intacto
    Hello, I have a news site containing an archive with more than 1 million news. I created a word definitions database with about 3000 entries, consisting of word-definition pairs. What I want to do is adding a definition next to every occurence of these words in the news. I cant make a static change as I can add a new keyword everyday, so i can make it realtime or cached. The question is, a str_replace or a preg_replace would be very slow for searching 3 thousand keywords in a text and replacing them. Are there any fast alternatives?

  • Is there any way to pass an anonymous array as an argument in C++?

    - by Jeremy Friesner
    Hi all, I'd like to be able to declare an array as a function argument in C++, as shown in the example code below (which doesn't compile). Is there any way to do this (other than declaring the array separately beforehand)? #include <stdio.h> static void PrintArray(int arrayLen, const int * array) { for (int i=0; i<arrayLen; i++) printf("%i -> %i\n", i, array[i]); } int main(int, char **) { PrintArray(5, {5,6,7,8,9} ); // doesn't compile return 0; }

  • Using Wordpress as a CMS to a site AND blog (two completely different layouts for each). Duplicate i

    - by Somebody still uses you MS-DOS
    I'm going to create a website using Wordpress static pages feature. It's going to have a menu for all the created pages. A blog is going to be created as well. This blog has a completely different layout/menu from the main site, but within the same domain: "http://www.domain.com" is the website url, and "http://www.domain.com/blog/" is the blog url. I was thinking of installing two different Wordpress instances: /var/www/public_html/ and /var/www/public_html/blog/. Although it's a simple solution, users are going to be duplicated: if you change password in one system, you need to change in the other. So, I would like to know from you which other approaches are possible: create a "dynamic" theme (call a theme when in root domain, another whern /blog - dont even know if this is possible), or for example a plugin to syncronize users from both instances? Does Wordpress MU solve this problem for me? Thanks!

  • Can you have an extension method on a type instead of on an instance of a type?

    - by SLC
    I can have an extension method like this: DateTime d = new DateTime(); d = d.GetRandomDate(); GetRandomDate is my extension method. However the above doesn't make much sense. What would be better is: DateTime d = DateTime.GetRandomDate(); However, I don't know how to do this. An extension method created as: public static DateTime GetRandomDate(this System.DateTime dt) will only add the GetRandomDate() in the first example above, not the second one. Is there a way to achieve the desired behaviour?

  • Div behind another div problem.

    Here is a (big) example of the massive problem I am having, when this page is live at euroworker.no/order, it is dynamically generated, I have supplied a static version for people to mess with. All I need is where it says "Endre Valg" to push the div wrapper under it down.. Sounds easy huh? I have tried many many things, I hope that some discussion and even trial and error can help us here. Sorry for the huge amount of code and stuff but this has taken me all day and I am out of ideas. Thanks.

  • asp.net web form Cutom Router Handler

    - by jparram
    I am using a custom route handler for a webforms application. I am using routes to determine localization. ie: if the url has es or fr in the route it will load either spanish or french resources. for example: www.someroute/es/checkstuff/checkstuff.aspx will load: www.someroute/checkstuff/checkstuff.aspx with the spanish resources. I am configuring the custom routes in global.asax via: protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); } public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes) { foreach (var value in _customRoutes) { routes.Add(value.RouteName, new Route(value.Route, new CustomRouteHandler(value.ResolvedRoute))); } } where _customroutes is a list of routes. Is there a way to do this with some kind of pattern matching so I can avoid adding a specific route for each page in the application. While I know I could use a t4 template to generate the routes, I guess I am looking for a dynamic way to create the list

  • Alternative to iframe using AJAX

    Hello. I have a music player swf embedded on an html page. Is there any way to have the music continuously play, even when the different html pages are loaded? When a link is clicked, the page is refreshed, also restarting the swf(music). If the site was AJAX driven, this wouldn't be a problem, but all my pages are static. I suppose I could put the entire body in an iframe, but there has to be a better option. Any ideas?

  • Render an asynchronous report, wider than the screen, without extra scrollbars

    - by Dubs
    I have an asynchronous local SSRS 2005 report that is of variable height and width, but routinely is bigger than the screen. I want to render it full size so that some of the report renders off screen and the only scrollbars the user sees are the ones on the browser window. What is the best way to accomplish this? The only method that I've found that even comes remotely close to what I want is to set static width/height values that are much larger than the report will ever be. But, this is undesirable since it leaves so much extra whitespace in the browser window. Has anyone had success rendering asynchronous reports without the extra scrollbars?
