  I am setting up golden gate, this installation guide is quite confusing as it refers to steps which have not been done or already done previously. I am on step 4.8.1 on the ''oracle installation guide''. I is asking for ''Extract'' user name. I do not recall creating such other than the goldengate user. Also what are the other four users it refers to as in 4.6 Extract Replicat Manager DEFGEN what is the usernames for each of these in the db?

• Rails: constraint violation on create but not on update

  Note: This is a "railsier" (and more succinct) version of this question, which was getting a little long. I'm getting Rails behavior on a production server that I can't replicate on the development server. The codebases are identical save for credentials and caching settings, and both are powered by Oracle 10g databases with identical schema (but different data). My Rails application contains a user model, which has_one registration; registration in turn has_and_belongs_to_many company_ownerships through a registration_ownerships table. Upon registering, users fill out data pertinent to all three models, including a series of checkboxes indicating what registration_ownerships might apply to their account. On the dev server, the registration process is seamless, no matter what data is entered. On production, however, if users check off any of the company ownership fields before submitting their registration, Oracle complains about a constraint violation on the primary key of the company_ownerships table (which is a two-field key based on company_ownership_id and registration_id) and users get the standard Rails 500 error screen. In every case, I've verified that no conflicting record on these two fields exists in the production database, so I don't know why the constraint is getting violated. To further confuse things, if a user registers without listing any ownerships and later goes back and modifies their account to reflect ownership data (which is done through the same interface), the application happily complies with their request and Oracle is well-behaved (this is both on production and dev). I've spent the past couple days trying to figure out what might be causing this problem and am reaching the end of my wits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

• ORA- 01157 / Cant connect to database

  Hi everyone, this is a follow up from this question. Let me start by saying that i am NOT a DBA, so i'm really really lost with this. A few weeks ago, we lost contact with one of our SID'S. All the other services are working, but this one in particular is not. What we got was this message when trying to connect ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress An attempt to alter database open ended up in ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 6 - see DBWR trace file ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/xxx/xxx_data.dbf' I tried to shutdown / restart the database, but got this message. Total System Global Area 566231040 bytes Fixed Size 1220604 bytes Variable Size 117440516 bytes Database Buffers 444596224 bytes Redo Buffers 2973696 bytes Database mounted. ORA-01157: cannot identify/lock data file 6 - see DBWR trace file ORA-01110: data file 6: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/xxx/xxx_data.dbf' When all continued the same, I erased the dbf files (rm xxx_data.dbf xxx_index.dbf), and recreated them using touch xxx_data.dbf. I also tried to recreate the tablespaces using `CREATE TABLESPACE DATA DATAFILE XXX_DATA.DBF` and got Database not open As I said, i don't know how bad this is, or how far i'm from gaining access to my database (well, to this SID at least, the others are working). I would imagine that a last resource would be to throw everything away, and recreating it, but I don't know how to, and I was hoping there's a less destructive solution. Any help will be greatly appreciated . Thanks in advance.

• Trying to not need two separate solutions for x86 and x64 program.

  Hi all, I have a program which needs to function in both an x86 and an x64 environment. It is using Oracle's ODBC drivers. I have a reference to Oracle.DataAccess.DLL. This DLL is different depending on whether the system is x64 or x86, though. Currently, I have two separate solutions and I am maintaining the code on both. This is atrocious. I was wondering what the proper solution is? I have my platform set to "Any CPU." and it is my understanding that VS should compile the DLL to an intermediary language such that it should not matter if I use the x86 or x64 version. Yet, if I attempt to use the x64 DLL I receive the error "Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.102.3.2, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." I am running on a 32 bit machine, so the error message makes sense, but it leaves me wondering how I am supposed to efficiently develop this program when it needs to work on x64. Thanks.

  I'm having a weird problem with index organized table. I'm running Oracle 11g standard. i have a table src_table SQL> desc src_table; Name Null? Elapsed: 00:00:15.25 SQL> ALTER TABLE dest_table ADD ( CONSTRAINT dest_table_pk PRIMARY KEY (HASH, id, TYPE)); Table altered. Elapsed: 00:01:17.35 It took Oracle < 2 min. now same exercise but with IOT table SQL> CREATE TABLE dest_table_iot ( id NUMBER(16) NOT NULL, hash NUMBER(20) NOT NULL, type NUMBER(1) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT dest_table_iot_PK PRIMARY KEY (HASH, id, TYPE) ) ORGANIZATION INDEX; Table created. I have tried it on 2 different instances of Oracle running on win and linux and got same results. What is going on here ? Why is it taking so long ?

• Inner or Outer left Join

  I'm having difficulty modifying a script for this situation and wondering if someone maybe able to help: I have an address table and a phone table both sharing the same column called id_number. So id_number = 2 on both tables refers to the same entity. Address and phone information used to be stored in one table (the address table) but it is now split into address and phone tables since we moved to Oracle 11g. There is a 3rd table called both_ids. This table also has an id_number column in addition to an other_ids column storing SSN and some other ids. Before the table was split into address and phone tables, I had this script: (Written in Sybase) INSERT INTO sometable_3 ( SELECT a.id_number, a.other_id, NVL(a1.addr_type_code,0) home_addr_type_code, NVL(a1.addr_status_code,0) home_addr_status_code, NVL(a1.addr_pref_ind,0) home_addr_pref_ind, NVL(a1.street1,0) home_street1, NVL(a1.street2,0) home_street2, NVL(a1.street3,0) home_street3, NVL(a1.city,0) home_city, NVL(a1.state_code,0) home_state_code, NVL(a1.zipcode,0) home_zipcode, NVL(a1.zip_suffix,0) home_zip_suffix, NVL(a1.telephone_status_code,0) home_phone_status, NVL(a1.area_code,0) home_area_code, NVL(a1.telephone_number,0) home_phone_number, NVL(a1.extension,0) home_phone_extension, NVL(a1.date_modified,'') home_date_modified FROM both_ids a, address a1 WHERE a.id_number = a1.id_number(+) AND a1.addr_type_code = 'H'); Now that we moved to Oracle 11g, the address and phone information are split. • Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

  I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake? • Excel VBA: importing CSV with dates as dd/mm/yyyy

  ello I understand this is a fairly common problem, but I'm yet to find a reliable solution. I have data in a csv file with the first column formatted dd/mm/yyyy. When I open it with Workbooks.OpenText it defaults to mm/dd/yyyy until it figures out that what it thinks is the month exceeds 12, then reverts to dd/mm/yyyy. This is my test code, which tries to force it as xlDMYFormat, and I've also tried the text format. I understand this problem only applies to *.csv files, not *.txt, but that isn't an acceptable solution. • SQL select statement with increment

  Currently I'm using a for statement in PHP to get all the months for this SQL statement, but would like to know if I can do it all with SQL. Basically I have to get the average listing price, and the average selling price for each month going back 1 year where the sellingdate = the month. simple with PHP, but that creates 12 database hits.   I'm working on a journal-type application in Python. The application basically permits the user write entries in the journal and adds a time-stamp for later querying the journal. As of now, I use the time.ctime() function to generate time-stamps that are visually friendly. The journal entries thus look like: Thu Jan 21 19:59:47 2010 Did something Thu Jan 21 20:01:07 2010 Did something else Now, I would like to be able to use these time-stamps to do some searching/querying. I need to be able to search, for example, for "2010", or "feb 2010", or "23 feb 2010". My questions are: 1) What time module(s) should I use: time vs datetime? 2) What would be an appropriate way of creating and using the time-stamp objects? Many thanks!

  Hello Guys, Im trying to query a sort of from - to date. e.g. 20-01-2010 to 20-02-2010. this should include the mentioned dates. i've tried the following queries but none works. select * from [tableName] where date = '20-01-2010' AND date <= '20-02-2010' the date where date is equal to 20-02-2010 does not show. i don't know why. select * from [tableName] where date between '20-01-2010' AND '20-02-2010' the mentioned dates is not included in the results. i want it to be included in the results. please help. thanks in advance! :)

I require the graph to display only the points in XML and exclude remaining thought it lies in between since it contains no data. How this can be done?

  OK, I am a big fan of WPF, and while it is large area to fully understand, Microsoft has been great in posting loads of training video at http://windowsclient.net/learn/videos_wpf.aspx However with the release of 2010 it all seams to have gone very quite. I expected a lot of the support to be updated for 2010 and I also expected a lot of new videos on the best way to use the new features in 2010. Currently I find myself working through videos based on 2008 (or even 2005) and trying to apply them to 2010. Don't get me wrong it not that I mind doing this, it just that I fear I may be learning methods which have better or different solutions in 2010. It is just me expecting too much of Microsoft, or have I missed out on a new website?

• Checking if parsed date is within a date range

  So I am using a scripting language with c++-like syntax, and I am trying to think of the best way to check if a date is within range. The problem I am running into is that if the current day is in a new month, the check is failing. Here is what my code looks like: if(iMonth >= iStartMonth && iMonth <= iEndMonth) { if(iDay >= iStartDay && iDay <= iEndDay) { if(iYear >= iStartYear && iYear <= iEndYear) { bEnabled = true; return; When I have something like this: Start date: 3 27 2010 End Date: 4 15 2010 Current Date: 3 31 2010 The day check fails because if (iDay <= iEndDay) does not pass. The scripting language doesn't have a lot of time related functions, and I can't compare timestamps because I'm allowing users to put like "03:27:2010" and "04:15:2010" as start/end dates in a config file. I'm assuming I am just not thinking straight and missing an easy fix.

  I am trying to manage seasonal prices for hotel rooms. (table taken from another question). The problem is: I don't want my seasons to be year specific. Seasons for rooms shouldn't change year on year. I don't want my users to have to enter the seasonal information several times. I am also going to have thousands of rooms, so I don't know a way to make this easily manageable. I'm using mysql and php.

  I have a ArrayList returned from a service which contains date-timestamp as String values (with values: 2010-05-06T23:38:18,2010-05-06T23:32:52,2010-04-28T18:23:06,2010-04-27T20:34:02,2010-04-27T20:37:02) to be more specific, This is part of a parent ArrayList ObjectHistory. This list contains the datestamp and serial number. I need to pick the correct serial number. Objecthistory is the List object and I need to get the latest timestamp within this ObjectHistory. I need to pick the latest timestamp from this Arraylist in Java 6. How should I be doing this? Should I do convert these values into calendar-time? I am in panic mode as this has to be done directly in production.
