  • Alternatives to PHP [closed]

    We are starting a project, which goal is to create new frontend interface to our product. Old version was created in PHP, very poorly written. We are choosing the language and frameworks that we want to use in new version. Requirements: New interface will be communicating with API. Application will not have it's own database. We don't have a big team, 3 max programmers for entire project. The main programmers are PHP veterans and knows some other technologies (Rails, C, C++, some Java) but not in professional level. But overall they are good and experienced programmers. So: We want to find a good alternative to PHP. I like Rails very much, but whole ActiveRecord model will be useless, when using application API. Java needs a lot of configuration and someone who is expert in Java to properly run this project. Also, in Java there are a lot of big and complicated enterprise frameworks - not very good for 2-3 programmers team. Python - I don't know Python and don't know good and experienced programmers who knows PY - but it's not so complicated and big as Java and maybe in long period it's good alternative for PHP. What are your thoughts?

  • what is standard approach to create a responsive website using javascript,php ajax and perhaps zend framework [closed]

    I am working on a web system currently and plans to heavily use javascript with ajax to make the user interface more friendlier, not fancy as such. The javascript will be used for client side form validation, data loading from server and creating proper content with the result, also to for floating windows during add/edit or external references. Here is a scenerio that could clearify my question. A user wants to update card but instead of jumping to another page to verify the available colors,size and prizes of product, those information are shown in a floating window and changes in the floating window can affect the underlying one. My question is : 1. What are some of the approaches to encounter this situation? 2. Are there any helpful tips, tricks and links on this subject? I am comfortable with js,php and zend. I would appreciate any advice,tip and tricks, problem solving approach to handle a situation like this! Thanks in advance. Hope this make sense.

  • The [2] table entry '[3]' has no associated entry in the Media table. (error 2602)

    Coworker started getting the above message in the event log and as dialog during install.  Argument [2] was File and argument [3] was a specific file. Error dialog read   Product: (app name) -- The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2602. Package was a vendor-provided MSI that had been installed administratively, and then a patch (.msp) applied to the administrative install point. With some digging we found that the MSI still had the entries in the media table pointing at the CAB files, and that there were several files at the end of the sequence that did not have corresponding entries in the Media table (last sequence 990 in Media table, last entry in File table had sequence 994).  Attributes on files in the File table all had the msidbFileAttributesCompressed (&16384) attribute set, so they were all expecting to be within the CAB files, but since this was an admin install there were no CAB files. Resolved by clearing the Media table (replace with a single entry: Disk ID 1, LastSequence 994) and going through the file table and subtracting 8192 from each entry to mark files as not compressed.  Tested and worked.

  • Can't turn off display - 13.10 / iMac

    I can find no way to completely turn off the display on a late 2013 iMac running 13.10 (Saucy). In the power management settings, I configured the display to "turn off" after one minute to see what would happen. The dimness goes all the way down and everything disappears, BUT the LED backlight remains on. When I try the "xset dpms force off" command, absolutely nothing happens--the command is accepted (no error or warning), but nothing changes. I then wiped everything clean and installed 13.04 (Raring). Both methods (dpms and waiting for sleep) work perfectly there, so something has changed in this new version. The problem can be replicated simply by booting from a bootable USB stick. So, I also gave version 14.04 (Trusty) a try in this manner and it has the exact same issues as 13.10. P.S. I would gladly use 13.04, but the catch there is that I can not get the network card to function. I have spent a week now reading everything i can find on both of these matters with no luck at all. Thank you in advance for any advice.

It only applies to the x64 build of my project, x86 still works fine. Apparently, it tries to build a x64 interop assembly from the x86 DLL located in "C:\Assemblies". When executing the TlbImp command with the x64 DLL which is located in a different directory, it works fine. However, I don't know how I can configure my project to use different COM references for the x86 and x64 build. The OS on which the project is being compiled is WinXP x86. Building worked fine when using VS2005 + MSBuild 3.5 Any help would be highly appreciated. I tried building the upgraded project with MSBuild v3.5, but that doesn't work either. It complains about unknown NoWarn codes (probably new in 4.0).

    I am having an impossible time getting asp.net 4.0 to work in any fashion at all. In fact, I completely wiped my server, reinstalled with Server 2008 R2 Standard (running on a VMWare ESXi box, not that it should matter), and cannot even get a test .aspx page to work. Here is exactly what I did: Installed 2008 R2 Standard Activated windows and enabled Remote Desktop Installed the Web Server Role with the necessary role services(common http, asp.net, logging, tracing, management service and FTP) Enabled the management service Installed .Net Framework 4.0 via web executable Added FTP publishing to the default web site Switched default web site application pool to asp.net 4.0 (integrated) Added a 'test.aspx' file to the inetpub\wwwroot folder (contents below) Opened a browser to http://localhost/test.aspx and received a 500.0 error (also below) What am I missing?   • WiX Action Sequence

    I was looking for list of actions and their sequence when running a WiX setup. Somehow the official website doesn't seem to provide any information. The basic problem is that I want to schedule my custom actions correctly. Typically I need to register a DLL with regsvr32.exe, and this can only be done once the files are copied to the harddrive. However the custom action <Custom Action="RegisterShellExt" After="InstallFiles"> failed with the error message "file not found". What I've done then is analizing the log of my MSI with WiX Edit, and I've found that the Action InstallFiles exists more than once. And effectively the files are written only the second time it appears.   • Simple Convention Automapper for two-way Mapping (Entities to/from ViewModels)

    UPDATE: this stuff has evolved into a nice project, see it at http://valueinjecter.codeplex.com check this out, I just wrote a simple automapper, it takes the value from the property with the same name and type of one object and puts it into another, and you can add exceptions (ifs, switch) for each type you may need so tell me what do you think about it ?
