  • What is the Null Character literal in TSQL?

    - by David in Dakota
    I am wondering what the literal for a Null character (e.g. '\0') is in TSQL. Note: not a NULL field value, but the null character (see link). I have a column with a mix of typical and a null character. I'm trying to replace the null character with a different value. I would have thought that the following would work but it is unsuccessfull: select REPLACE(field_with_nullchar, char(0), ',') from FOO where BAR = 20

  • ROW_NUMBER() VS. DISTINCT

    - by ramadan2050
    Dear All, I have a problem with ROW_NUMBER() , if i used it with DISTINCT in the following Query I have 2 scenarios: 1- run this query direct : give me for example 400 record as a result 2- uncomment a line which start with [--Uncomment1--] : give me 700 record as a result it duplicated some records not all the records what I want is to solve this problem or to find any way to show a row counter beside each row, to make a [where rownumber between 1 and 30] --Uncomment2-- if I put the whole query in a table, and then filter it , it is work but it still so slow waiting for any feedback and I will appreciate that Thanks in advance SELECT * FROM (SELECT Distinct CRSTask.ID AS TaskID, CRSTask.WFLTaskID, --Uncomment1-- ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER By CRSTask.CreateDate asc ) AS RowNum , CRSTask.WFLStatus AS Task_WFLStatus, CRSTask.Name AS StepName, CRSTask.ModifiedDate AS Task_ModifyDate, CRSTask.SendingDate AS Task_SendingDate, CRSTask.ReceiveDate AS Task_ReceiveDate, CRSTask.CreateDate AS Task_CreateDate, CRS_Task_Recipient_Vw.Task_CurrentSenderName, CRS_Task_Recipient_Vw.Task_SenderName, CRS_INFO.ID AS CRS_ID, CRS_INFO.ReferenceNumber, CRS_INFO.CRSBeneficiaries, CRS_INFO.BarCodeNumber, ISNULL(dbo.CRS_FNC_GetTaskReceiver(CRSTask.ID), '') + ' ' + ISNULL (CRS_Organization.ArName, '') AS OrgName, CRS_Info.IncidentID, COALESCE(CRS_Subject.ArSubject, '??? ????') • Sharing ASP.NET State databases between multiple apps

    - by MikeWyatt
    Is it better for a collection of ASP.NET web apps to share the same session database, or should each one have its own? If there is no significant difference, having a single database would be preferable due to easier maintenance. Background My team has an assortment of ASP.NET web apps, all written in either Monorail 1.1 or ASP.NET MVC 1.0. Each app currently uses a dedicated session state database. I'm working on adding a new site to that list, and am debating whether I should create another new session database, or just share an existing one with another app.

  • Alternative to sql NOT IN?

    - by Alex
    Hi, I am trying to make a materialized view in Oracle (I am a newbie, btw). For some reason, it doesn't like the presence of sub-query in it. I've been trying to use LEFT OUTER JOIN instead, but it's returning different data set now. Put simply, here's the code I'm trying to modify: SELECT * FROM table1 ros, table2 bal, table3 flx WHERE flx.name = 'XXX' AND flx.value = bal.value AND NVL (ros.ret, 'D') = Nvl (flx.attr16, 'D') AND ros.value = bal.segment3 AND ros.type IN ( 'AL', 'AS', 'PL' ) AND bal.period = 13 AND bal.code NOT IN (SELECT bal1.code FROM table2 bal1 WHERE bal1.value = flx.value AND bal1.segment3 = ros.value AND bal1.flag = bal.flag AND bal1.period = 12 AND bal1.year = bal.year) And here's one of my attempt: SELECT * FROM table1 ros, table2 bal, table3 flx LEFT OUTER JOIN table2 bal1 ON bal.code = bal1.code WHERE bal1.code is null AND bal1.segment3 = ros.value AND bal.segment3 = ros.value AND bal1.flag = bal.flag AND bal1.year = bal.year AND flx.name = 'XXX' AND flx.value = bal.value AND bal1.value = flx.value AND bal1.period_num = 12 AND NVL (ros.type, 'D') = NVL (flx.attr16, 'D') AND ros.value = bal.segment3 AND ros.type IN ( 'AL', 'AS', 'PL' ) AND bal.period = 13; This drives me nuts! Thanks in advance for the help :)

  • What is the proper way to create a recursive entity in the Entity Framework?

    - by Orion Adrian
    I'm currently using VS 2010 RC, and I'm trying to create a model that contains a recursive self-referencing entity. Currently when I import the entity from the model I get an error indicating that the parent property cannot be part of the association because it's set to 'Computed' or 'Identity', though I'm not sure why it does it that way. I've been hand-editing the file to get around that error, but then the model simply doesn't work. What is the proper way to get recursive entities to work in the Entity Framework. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Appointments]( [AppointmentId] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Description] [nvarchar](1024) NULL, [Start] [datetime] NOT NULL, [End] [datetime] NOT NULL, [Username] [varchar](50) NOT NULL, [RecurrenceRule] [nvarchar](1024) NULL, [RecurrenceState] [varchar](20) NULL, [RecurrenceParentId] [int] NULL, [Annotations] [nvarchar](50) NULL, [Application] [nvarchar](100) NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_Appointments] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [AppointmentId] ASC ) ) GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Appointments] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Appointments_ParentAppointments] FOREIGN KEY([RecurrenceParentId]) REFERENCES [dbo].[Appointments] ([AppointmentId]) GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Appointments] CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_Appointments_ParentAppointments] GO

  • Generic Method to find the tuples used for computation in Postgres?

    - by Rahul
    If I have a table col1 | name | pay ------+------------------+------ 1 | Steve Jobs | 1006 2 | Mike Markkula | 1007 3 | Mike Scott | 1978 4 | John Sculley | 1983 5 | Michael Spindler | 1653 The user executes a sum query which sums the pay of people getting paid more than $1500. Is there a way to also implicitly know which tuples have been used which satisfy the condition for sum ? I know you can separately write another query to just return the primary key ids which satisfy the condition. But, Is there any other way to do that in the same query ? probably rewrite the query in some way ? or... any suggestion ?

  • Using the ASP.NET membership provider database with your own database?

    - by Shaharyar
    Hello everybody, We are developing an ASP.NET MVC Application that currently uses it's own databse ApplicationData for the domain models and another one Membership for the user management / membership provider. We do access restrictions using data-annotations in our controllers. [Authorize(Roles = "administrators, managers")] This worked great for simple use cases. As we are scaling our application our customer wants to restrict specific users to access specific areas of our ApplicationData database. Each of our products contains a foreign key referring to the region the product was assembled in. A user story would be: Users in the role NewYorkManagers should only be able to edit / see products that are assembled in New York. We created a placeholder table UserRightsRegions that contains the UserId and the RegionId. How can I link both the ApplicationData and the Membership databases in order to work properly / having cross-database-key-references? (Is something like this even possible?) All help is more than appreciated!

  • Integer Surrogate Key?

    - by CitadelCSAlum
    I need something real simple, that for some reason I am unable to accomplish to this point. I have also been unable to Google the answer surprisingly. I need to number the entries in different tables uniquely. I am aware of AUTO INCREMENT in MySQL and that it will be involved. My situation would be as follows If I had a table like Table EXAMPLE ID - INTEGER FIRST_NAME - VARCHAR(45) LAST_NAME - VARCHAR(45) PHONE - VARCHAR(45) CITY - VARCHAR(45) STATE - VARCHAR(45) ZIP - VARCHAR(45) This would be the setup for the table where ID is an integer that is auto-incremented every time an entry is inserted into the table. The thing I need is that I do not want to have to account for this field when inserting data into the database. From my understanding this would be a surrogate key, that I can tell the database to automatically increment and I do not have to include it in the INSERT STATEMENT so instead of INSERT INTO EXAMPLE VALUES (2,'JOHN','SMITH',333-333-3333,'NORTH POLE'.... I can leave out the first ID column and just write something like INSERT INTO EXAMPLE VALUES ('JOHN','SMITH'.....etc) Notice I Wouldnt have to define the ID column... I know this is a very common task to do, but for some reason I cant get to the bottom of it. I am using MySQL, just to clarify. Thanks alot

  • Filling data in FormView from different tables

    - by wacky_coder
    Hi, I am using a FormView in an online quiz page for displaying the questions and RadioButtons (for answers) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2438219/online-quiz-using-asp-dot-net Now, I need to pick the questions according to a TestID and a particular Set of that Test. The testid and the set_number would be passed using Session variables. I'm having 3 testIDs and 3 Sets per TestID and, thus, am using 9 tables to store the Questions, the Options and the correct answer. I need help on how to set the FormView so that it extracts the questions from a particular table only. Do I need to use a StoredProcedure ? If yes, how? PS: If I use only one table to store all the questions from each Set and for each TestID, I can do that, but I'd prefer using separate tables.

  • Analysis services with non normalized table

    - by Uwe
    I have a table with several million rows. Each row represents a user session. There is a column called user which is not unique. There can be multiple sessions per user. I want to use Analysis services to get me the additional properties per user. Example: How many users (unique!) had a session longer than x minutes. How is that possible without changing the database. Note: there is no lookup-table and I cannot create one. What I am able of at the moment is to ask how many sessions were longer then x minutes.

  • How to update multiple rows with different values in mysql?

    - by user210481
    I have a table with a column 'A'. Some rows have 14 digits for the column 'A' and some have only 12. I need to transform all the entries to 14 digits. The datatype is varchar I would like to update all the rows at once (one query), adding zeros before the first digit, so an entry like 012345678910 would become 00012345678910. Is it possible to do it in one single query? Thanks

Little Back ground about the tables are PROPERTY_ID is the FK in the KPT PROPERTY_ID is the PK in KH I am writing a subquery to get the Result, so I am stuck I dont know how to get my results Please help

  • Cursor while loop returning every value but the last

    - by LordSnoutimus
    Hello, I am using a while loop to iterate through a cursor and then outputing the longitude and latitude values of every point within the database. For some reason it is not returning the last (or first depending on if I use Cursor.MoveToLast) set of longitude and latitude values in the cursor. Here is my code: public void loadTrack() { SQLiteDatabase db1 = waypoints.getWritableDatabase(); Cursor trackCursor = db1.query(TABLE_NAME, FROM, "trackidfk=1", null, null, null,ORDER_BY); trackCursor.moveToFirst(); while (trackCursor.moveToNext()) { Double lat = trackCursor.getDouble(2); Double lon = trackCursor.getDouble(1); //overlay.addGeoPoint( new GeoPoint( (int)(lat*1E6), (int)(lon*1E6))); System.out.println(lon); System.out.println(lat); } } From this I am getting: 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 3.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 5.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 4.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 5.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 5.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 5.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 4.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 4.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 3.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 3.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 2.0 04-02 15:39:07.416: INFO/System.out(10551): 2.0 04-02 15:39:07.493: INFO/System.out(10551): 1.0 04-02 15:39:07.493: INFO/System.out(10551): 1.0 7 Sets of values, where I should be getting 8 sets. Thanks.
