    I'm attempting to check if a value exists in the choices tuple set for a model field. For example lets say I have a Model like this: class Vote(models.Model): VOTE_TYPE = ( (1, "Up"), (-1, "Down"), ) value = models.SmallIntegerField(max_length=1, choices=VOTE_TYPES) Now lets say in a view I have a variable new_value = 'Up' that I would like to use as the value field in a new Vote. How can I first check to see if the value of that variable exists in the VOTE_TYPE tuple? Thank you.

  • How do I test controllers and views?

    I'm using rails for the first time, and I love how test-oriented it is and how it encourages you to write tests. I'm just having a hard time figuring out what I should be testing when I test controllers and views. I know that you should test redirects and authorization in the controller tests, but what else? And what should go in view tests? If I'm "following the rules" and only putting loops, conditionals, and echoes in my views, then what is there left to test?

When you right click and select view source in a page that is generated by JavaScript (e.g using GWT) you do not see the dynamically generated HTML. I suppose that if a search engine also cannot see the generated HTML then there is not much to index, right?

  • ASP.NET MVC Return to Previous Page

    I have a basic Edit method in my controller that redirects back to a top level listing (“Index”) when the edit succeeds. Standard setup after scaffolding. I am trying to change this Edit method to redirect back to the previous page (not Index). Since my Edit method is not using the default mapped input parameter “id”, I am using that to pass the previous URL. In my Edit “get” method, I use this line to grab the previous URL and it works fine: ViewBag.ReturnUrl = Request.UrlReferrer.AbsoluteUri; I send this return URL to the Edit “post” method by using my form tag like this: @using (Html.BeginForm(new { id = ViewBag.ReturnUrl })) Now this is where the wheels fall off. I can't seem to get the URL parsed from the id parameter properly. UPDATE**** Using Gary's example as a guide, I changing my parameter name from "id" to "returnUrl" and used a hidden field to pass my parameter. Lesson: Only use the id parameter how it was intended to be used...keep it simple. It works now...   • UIDisplayLink stops updating when UIScrollView scrolled

    Title is quite self explanatory, but I have some animation being done in a loop triggered by UIDisplayLink. However, as soon as I scroll a UIScrollView I have added to my view hierarchy, the animation stops immediately, only to return again when scrolling has completely stopped and come to a standstill.... Anyway to cancel this behaviour?

My problem is that I do not know how large those views are. Well, of course, I know their hard-coded values... But I want to be a good citizen and not use hard-coded values and instead query them.   • Recommendations for a free GIS library supporting raster images

    Hi. I'm quite new to the whole field of GIS, and I'm about to make a small program that essentially overlays GPS tracks on a map together with some other annotations. I primarily need to allow scanned (thus raster) maps (although it would be nice to support proper map formats and something like OpenStreetmap in the long run). My first exploratory program uses Qt's graphics view framework and overlays the GPS points by simply projecting them onto the tangent plane to the WGS84 ellipsoid at a calibration point. This gives half-decent accuracy, and actually looks good. But then I started wondering. To get the accuracy I need (i.e. remove the "half" in "half-decent"), I have to correct for the map projection. While the math is not a problem in itself, supporting many map projection feels like needless work. Even though a few projections would probably be enough, I started thinking about just using something like the PROJ.4 library to do my projections. But then, why not take it all the way? Perhaps I might aswell use a full-blown map library such as Mapnik (edit: Quantum GIS also looks very nice), which will probably pay off when I start to want even more fancy annotations or some other symptom of featuritis. So, finally, to the question: What would you do? Would you use a full-blown map library? If so, which one? Again, it's important that it supports using (and zooming in and out with) raster maps and has pretty overlay features. Or would you just keep it simple, and go with Qt's own graphics view framework together with something like PROJ.4 to handle the map projections? I appreciate any feedback! Some technicalities: I'm writing in C++ with a Qt-based GUI, so I'd prefer something that plays relatively nicely with those. Also, the library must be free software (as in FOSS), and at least decently cross-platform (GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac, at least). Edit: OK, it seems I didn't do quite enough research before asking this question. Both Quantum GIS and Mapnik seem very well suited for my purpose. The former especially so since it's based on Qt.

  • Associated models in Rails?

    Hi Everyone, In my rails application I have two models called Kases and Notes. They work in the same way comments do with blog posts, I.e. each Kase entry can have multiple notes attached to it. I have got everything working, but for some reason I cannot get the destroy link to work for the Notes. I think I am overlooking something that is different with associated models to standard models. But I moved to python 2.6 and django 1.2 recently and I'm getting the following error now during the migrate: http://slexy.org/view/s2HCFJj0yL After running migrate several times, it eventually passes.   • Identifying and removing null characters in UNIX

    I have a text file containing unwanted null characters. When I try to view it in I see ^@ symbols, interleaved in normal text. How can I: a) Identify which lines in the file contains null characters? I have tried grepping for \0 and \x0, but this did not work. b) Remove the null characters? Running strings on the file cleaned it up, but I'm just wondering if this is the best way? Thanks

    I'm not sure I explained it correctly in the question title, so here's the details: Login controller: function authenticate() { if ( authorized ) { redirect('lobby'); } else { redirect('login'); } } Lobby controller: function index() { //load lobby view } What happens is that in the login page, I enter user / pass, click Login, then authenticate() is called, and redirects me to the Lobby. However, when I click refresh while on the Lobby, the login form gets submitted again, so I get "logged in" again. How do I prevent that from happening?
