  • How do I test how customers use my Cocoa application?

    I'm interested in finding out how customers use features in my Cocoa application. I want to build up statistics on which features people use and how they use them, so that I can measure the value of features I'm implementing. This feedback of course will be off by default and anonymous. Does anyone know of any frameworks that have been developed that can achieve this without me having to write stuff from scratch?

  • HTML - Which element to output text?

    I'm implementing a little chat application where I receive messages from a server, which I would like to display to a user. As I'm more of a backend guy, and lacking experience in frontend development, I don't know which element would be suited best to output the text. Two options come to my mind: Using a plain div Using a textarea (as far as I understand, this is intended to be used for input). (Would also be nice if I could somehow fade in the text using JQuery).

    My custom callback class implements AsyncCallback (like MyAsyncCallback implements AsyncCallback) and planning use single instance of MyAsyncCallback for multiple rpc method executions. Is this approach safe?. Or should have to create new instance of MyAsyncCallback for every interaction from browser to server?.     Look at this ruby example: puts ["Dog","Cat","Gates"].1 This will output Cat as ruby allows me to directly access the "anonymous" array created. If I try this in PHP, however: echo array("Dog","Cat,"Gates")[1] This won't work. What is this called, not only concerning arrays but all functions? Where else is it possible?     How do I stop VS 2010 (RC) from autocompleting html helpers with new object { ... } when I just want to pass in an anonymous type? Backspacing is driving me crazy. e.g., VS wants: <%=Html.ActionLink("Register", "Register", new object { controller = "Account" }) %> I know the helper is declared expecting object, which is why it does this, but can I change this behavior just for mvc helpers?

  • Does SQL Server have any kind of magic undo feature?

    Long story short is I tried to quickly update a single row in SQL Server using the Management studio and just typed UPDATE table SET column='value' and forgot the WHERE other_column='other_value' portion. Went for lunch, came back and theres 15 unread emails waiting for me. Happened about an hour ago, waiting for the database guy to come back to see when the last backup was. There's no magic UNDO feature though is there?

Another way to ask my question: how can I convert request.headers into a Hash? It uses a Hash under the covers so this should be easy, no?

For an interesting discussion about this neglected commodity, see this question. Here, I just wanted to know: if the very concept of this loop-else construct originates from another language (either theoretical or actually implemented), conversely, if it was taken up in any newer language.     I'm currently doing this query to find the guy who makes the most calls: SELECT `commenter_name`, COUNT(*) AS `calls` FROM `comments` GROUP BY `commenter_name` ORDER BY `calls` LIMIT 1 What I want now is to be able to find out how many total unique callers. I tried using DISTINCT but I didn't get anywhere.
