• Combinationally unique MySQL tables

  So, here's the problem (it's probably an easy one :P) This is my table structure: CREATE TABLE `users_awards` ( `user_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `award_id` int(11) NOT NULL, `duplicate` int(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0', UNIQUE KEY `award_id` (`award_id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1 So it's for a user awards system. I don't want my users to be granted the same award multiple times, which is why I have a 'duplicate' field. The query I'm trying is this (with sample data of 3 and 2) : INSERT INTO users_awards (user_id, award_id) VALUES ('3','2') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE duplicate=duplicate+1 So my MySQL is a little rusty, but I set user_id to be a primary key, and award_id to be a UNIQUE key. This (kind of) created the desired effect. When user 1 was given award 2, it entered. If he/she got this twice, only one row would be in the table, and duplicate would be set to 1. And again, 2, etc. When user 2 was given award 1, it entered. If he/she got this twice, duplicate updated, etc. etc. But when user 1 is given award 1 (after user 2 has already been awarded it), user 2 (with award 1)'s duplicate field increases and nothing is added to user 1. Sorry if that's a little n00bish. Really appreciate the help! Jack

• Apache gettext windows does not work/translate

  I am new to gettext. Here is my setup: /Apache 2.2 PHP 5.3.6 Windows 7/ I have following code in the Apache/htdocs/test/index.php <?php $language = 'de_DE'; $translatefile = 'messages'; setlocale(LC_ALL, $language); putenv("LANG=".$language); bindtextdomain($translatefile, 'C:/locale'); textdomain($translatefile); echo gettext("Hello World!"); ?> I used PoEdit to generate the necessary translations under locale/de_DE/LC_MESSAGES/messsages.po & messages.mo The charset I used was UTF-8 When I visit http://localhost/test, the result is Hello World! when it should be Hall Welt! As a test, I opened command prompt and navigated to the test folder. Then I typed in php index.php The result that appeared in the console was Hall Welt! I am not sure why it is not working with Apache.

• Doing a POST to a Service Operation in ADO.NET data services

  Is it possible to POST to a service operation defined in an ADO.NET data service (it is decorated with WebInvoke)? I had no problem calling the service operation as an HTTP GET. However, when I switched to doing a POST, the stack trace consistently comes back with "Parameter cannot be NULL". I am using the jQuery syntax below, and sending the POST as JSON (though I'm not including the $.ajax call, the parameter names line up exactly). It would be possible to try this with WCF, as opposed to ADO.NET data services (newly renamed as WCF data services). However, my preference would be to use this approach first. I have tried this with and without the stringify method. Most examples online only show how to use a POST to entities (i.e. for handling CRUD operations). • [solved] IE6 PNG-transparency CSS hack not working

  I looked around and decided to use a CSS approach rather than rely on JS... I figure the kind of corporate users stuck with IE6 might also have JS disabled by IT departments. EDIT: I now got it working, using the .htc method, loading that file in a conditional IE6 test block. It turned out the problem I was having was that Windows 7 had 'locked' the file (I don't even know what this means) and this blocked IE from loading/using it.

• HTML not appearing in Emails

  My website sends out html emails but most of my recipients are receiving them as HTML marked up source pages instead of the nice table layouts. The problem doesn't appear to be an email client issue since the emails display properly in web mail clients like gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc... They also display properly when viewed through outlook or thunderbird that are connected to gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc... However, I have one domain name that I registered with a shared hosting provider called 1and1.com. I tried viewing my emails through their webmail client, thunderbird and outlook, but in all three cases, only the html mark up showed up. Also, I assume most of my recipients use MS Outlook with MS Exchange Server because they are business/finance people. Unfortunately, I don't know how to get an email that's managed by an MS Exchange Server. I made sure I'm sending my emails with the following headers: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1 Does anyone know what might be wrong? can anyone recommend a solution?

• Make an empty DIV height and width of its container

  My HTML currently contains a background image that stretches with the viewport. Within that, I plan to place a div that stretches to the height and width of the viewport and has black background colour at 50% opacity. I've set the div to be 100% width and height. The div is not stretching and I can't figure out why! • JQuery AJAX returned too much data that I had not requested

  Hi all, I am using CakePHP 1.26 and CDN JQuery in this URL: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js In a HTML web page, I have these lines of code: $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "http://mywebsite.com/controllers/avail/"+curl, success: function(data) { alert(data);} }); and in the PHP page, I got another few lines of code: function avail($uname){ $result1=$this->Site1->User->findByusername($uname); if($result1){ return 1; } else{ return 0; } } As you see, the Avail function will return either zero or one. • Cannot send HTML Emails

  Well I'm trying to send a HTML email using gmail smtp from CI, and it seems to reject my emails when they have any amount of tables. No error is given, they just do not appear in my inbox. If I send an email with light HTML and no tables, they go through.   I am accessing web pages through java as follows: URLConnection con = url.openConnection(); But in some cases, a url redirects to another url. So I want to know the url to which the previous url redirected. • Passing javascript object to webservice via Jquery ajax

My onSucess function gets passed a javascript object exactly structured like my User object on the service. However, I am now having trouble getting the object back to the server. I'm accepting Object as a parameter on the server side so I can't inagine there is an issue there. So I'm thinking something is wrong with the parms on the client side but i'm not sure what... • Location of Embedly (JQuery-Preview) Results

  Embedly/Jquery-Preview has been fantastic. However, I'm trying to change the location of the preview result, and having trouble. Right now, the result appears right below the input field...but I'd rather have it in a separate part of the page. Is there a way to do this? I've tried changing the location of the selector and loading divs, but that hasn't helped. It seems to ignore those divs and put it right below the submit button. • Export GridView to Excel (not working)

  I've spent the last two days trying to get some bloody data to export to Excel. After much research I determined that the best and most common way is using HttpResponse headers as shown in my code below. After stepping through countless times in debug mode, I have confirmed that the data is in fact there and both filtered and sorted the way I want it. However, it does not download as an Excel file, or do anything at all for that matter. I suspect this may have something to do with my UpdatePanel or perhaps the ImageButton not posting back properly, but I'm not sure. What am I doing wrong? Please help me to debug this issue. I know how to decompress it, but the problem here lies in the fact that I cannot separate the Packet from the GZipped data, psuedo-psuedocode (or whatever) on how I do it: Socket sends packet; Socket reads response from server, stores into a ByteArray; Create MemoryStream, use ByteArray; Create GZipStream, use Memorystream; now the problem occurs; I am getting the following Error: System.IO.InvalidDataException The magic number in GZip header is not correct.   Hi, I am working on my first MVC application and am running into a bit of a problem. I have a data table that when a row is clicked, I want to return the detail from that row. It does hit the function but nothing is passed to it. So, I have read where you pass the parameter via the data but I have tried every combination I can think of and it never shows up.
