How will wayland be delivered?

Mark just announched support for wayland in Ubuntu in future. I was just wondering the following (Hopefully Mark can answer). Obviously this is quite a significant piece of work. When will a version be available to test? Will it be available as a package(s) in the repository or will it be delivered as its own distribution e.g. wayBuntu? When do you expect it to take over as the default (e.g. 11.11)? Thanks Chris

You can find a lot of in-depth technical information there and it’s probably worthy of a bookmark to check in on occasionally. One of my favorite types of content on the wiki is the do it yourself hands on labs. We do these at in person events like Oracle OpenWorld and also online for our Virutal SysAdmin Days, and those are great because you can get real-time assistance if you have any questions. But, if you’re eager to learn more about Oracle Linux and don’t want to wait for one of those events, you can step through these labs in your own time. All of the information you need is on the wiki. access denied when trying to open terminal on desktop

ok so heres the skinny. I just moved some file using the sudo su command so i can move them to bin folder in file system then after closing terminal tried to reopen from desktop and got permission denied. I then rebooted and now i cant access my account and when trying to login it starts to boot then back to login screen. I then boot up in xterm and i get this message bash: /home/chris/.bashrc:Permission denied. I'm currently running xubuntu 10.04 and would like to get back in to that user. Can someone please help me. Not a noob but close to it. Thanks to anyone who helps and the quicker the better.

Dual Monitor (Monitor and TV)

I connected TV to my computer, and trying to set dual display. Whatever resolution I choose for my second display (TV) I get message like this: The selected configuration for displays could not be applied required virtual size does not fit available size: requested=(2704, 1050), minimum=(320, 200), maximum=(1680, 1680) How can I fix this? Also, while I was experimenting system went to deadlock, I restarted and after boot monitor just turns off once system is up. Rails - MS-SQL Server problems (unixODBC, FreeTDS) on Mac 10.6

Followed the instructions on the Rails wiki and have had success connecting to SQL Server 2000 with TSQL -- both with DSN-less and DNS connections. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.3. Wiki instructions here. Installed ruby-odbc, dbi (0.4.0), dbd-odbc (2.4.5), activerecord-sqlserver-adapter (2.3.5). In my database.yml (Rails 2.3.6): development: adapter: sqlserver mode: ODBC dsn: 'DRIVER=/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so;TDS_Version=8.0;SERVER=mssql01.discountasp.net;DATABASE=DB_164368_dmusd;Port=1433;uid=DB_164368_dmusd_user;pwd=Schools77;' This yields the following error: ODBC::Error: S1090 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Invalid string or buffer length When I attempt to use a DSN connection, I get the following error: ODBC::Error: IM002 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified I have in fact verified that the FreeTDS driver (libtdsodbc.so) is installed and the path correct. Can anyone spot the error of my ways? Thanks in advance.

How can I prompt for input using Selenium/Webdriver and use the result?

I would like to allow for user input and make some decisions based on it. If I do this: driver.execute_script("prompt('Enter smth','smth')") I get a nice prompt, but I cannot use it's value. Is there any way of showing an input box to the user, and use the value typed there? One National Team One Event – SharePoint Saturday Kansas City

I wasn’t expect to run an event from 1,000 miles away, but some stuff happened you know like it does and I opted in. It was really weird, because people asked why are you living in NJ and running Kansas City? I did move, but it was like my baby and Karthik didn’t have the ability to do it this year. I found it really challenging, because I could not physically be in Kansas City. At first I was freaking out and Lee Brandt, Brian Laird, and Chris Geier offered to help. Somehow I couldn’t come the day of the event. Time-wise it just didn’t work out. I could do all the leg work prior to the event, but weekends just were not good. I was going to be in DC until March or April on the weekdays, so leaving that weekend was too tough. As it worked out Lee was my eyes and ears for the venue. Brian was the sponsor and prize box coordinator if anyone needed to send items. Lee also helped Brian the day of the event move all the boxes. I did everything we could do electronically, such as get the sponsors coordinate with Michael Lotter on invoicing and getting the speakers, posting the submissions, budgeting the money, setting up a speaker dinner by phone, plus all that other stuff you do behind the scenes. Chris was there to help Lee and Brian the day of the event and help us out with the speaker dinner. Karthik finally got back from India and he was there the night before getting the folders together and the signs and stuffing it all. Jason Gallicchio also helped me out (my cohort for SPS NYC) as he did the schedule and helped with posting the speakers abstracts and so did Chris Geier by posting the bios. The lot of them enlisted a few other monkeys to help out. It was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen, but it worked. Around 100+ attendees ended up showing and I hear it was a great event. Jason, Michael, Chris, Karthik, Brian, and Lee are not all from the same area, but they helped me out in bringing this event together. It was a national SharePoint Saturday team that brought together a specific local event for Kansas City. It’s like a metaphor for the entire SharePoint Community. We help our own kind out we don’t let me fail. I know Lee and Brian aren’t technically SharePoint People they are honorary SharePoint Community Members. Unity 3d support for multiple X-screens

I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 this weekend and have had problems getting Unity3d to work with my triple monitor set-up. I've installed the latest nVidia drivers for my 2 nVidia video cards and have used NVIDIA X Server Settings to configure everything. If I stick each monitor on a separate X screen, all but the primary X screen will appear white and the cursor will be a black X. I can start a terminal on this screen but cannot drag other windows to it. If I kill the "Nautilus" process, the white background disappears and I see my desktop background, but my cursor is still an X and I still cannot drag windows to it. If I enable TwinView, I can get one screen on two monitors to work properly, but the white screen remains on my third monitor. In addition, I don't like using TwinView because my full-screen applications get stretched. My current solution is to "Enable Xinerama", use all separate X screens and revert to Unity2d. I'd love a solution to this as Ubuntu 12.10 is not planned to support Unity-2d and prefer the aesthetics of 3d anyways. I can provide Xorg.conf for all configurations and any other suggested diagnostic information. After the procedure has opened and assigned a query to the REF CURSOR, CR will perform a FETCH call for every row from the query's result. This is why the parameter must be defined as IN OUT. 4. How to discern video details from Linux Live CD

I was having trouble getting X.Org to work with the video card in a recently aquired laptop, so I decided to try to probe around the configuration of a Linux Live CD to figure out how to set up my kernel. I chose the Sabayon 5.0 Live DVD because it was the only one that I could find that was the same or newer than the 2.6.32 kernel I have installed on the laptop right now. Of course, the DVD booted right into GNOME without issue, unlike the hangs and crashes that I had been getting. So, I want to figure out what kernel driver this Live DVD is currently using, but I don't know how to. hwinfo doesn't shed any light on the matter, and lspci -vnn doesn't list a driver for my video device, though both methods correctly identify that I have an Intel 855GM video processor. How can I find out this information?

No sound through DisplayPort

I'm trying to connect my Elitebook 8440p laptop to my Samsung HDTV. The laptop does not have a HDMI connection, but it does have DisplayPort. I bought a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CSRFD8/ref=oss_product, and connected it with a 3' HDMI cable. The video shows up fine, but there is no audio. DisplayPort, HDMI, and the adapter all support audio. I contacted HP tech support, who told me to update my sound drivers. I installed the driver and rebooted. Supposedly, I should see a "HD Audio" tab. No luck, even after installing the driver again and rebooting. HP closed the case. I'm using XP Pro.

I have my Pioneer receiver hooked up to my AMD HD4600m which supports audio output over HDMI. I used to work fine, however, after a recent driver update, it will only output stereo sound. It used to output 5.1 surround sound perfectly. Windows does not seem to recognize the device as capable of 5.1. In the past, 5.1 was given as an option in the configuration window, like this: I can not get it to properly recognize the capabilities of the device. I have tried uninstalling the relevant audio device in device manager, and I have also completely removed and reinstalled the display driver. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
