• Ordering recursive result set in SQL Server

  I am having extreme difficulty constructing a query which returns an XML style hierarchy. We have a database table which contains a hierarchy of URLs for our website. The table contains the columns: ID, URL, DisplayName, ParentID, ItemOrder The parent ID forms a recursive relationship between the current item and it's parent. The item should site below it's parent in the hierarchy and it should also be ordered using the item order against items at the same level in the hierarchy. I have managed to get a recursive query working so it drills down the hierarchy sequentially but I cannot order this by the item order as well. My current query is below: WITH Parents AS ( SELECT MenuItemId, URL, ParentItemId, ItemOrder FROM CambsMenu UNION ALL SELECT si.MenuItemId, si.URL, si.ParentItemId, si.ItemOrder FROM CambsMenu si INNER JOIN Parents p ON si.ParentItemId = p.MenuItemId ) SELECT DISTINCT * FROM Parents

  So from the code below, I have managed to get the string *tempstring into an array chunk. Now chunk[0] contains 'a' while chunk[1] contains 'aa'. I am trying to format chunk[0] to '0a' which I can using the replaceObjectAtIndex method. Here's my question: How do I detect that chunk[0] is formatted as 'a' and not '0a'. I want to check all the indexes and make sure they have double digits and if not use a 0 to prefix it.   I apologise in advance if this has been answered before; it seems so fundamental to me yet I haven't turned up the answer in any of my searches. I have a list of string tuples, say (P1,P2) I'd like to know if there's a LINQ statement where I could group by P1 (in ascending order), and have that group contain all the P2 values for the group (in descending order). For input: ("A","B"), ("A","C"), ("D","B") I'd like to get two groups: "A" and "D" (in that order, every time) where group "A" contains "C" and "B" (in that order, every time) and group "D" contains, well, "B". Is this possible with the built-in LINQ classes or do I need to iterate the groups and sort them myself? Sounds like hard work~

• Emailing HTML from within an iPhone app is stopping at special characters

  Hi, I have an iPhone app that will let users email some pre-determined text as HTML. I'm having a problem in that if the text contains special characters within the text (e.g., ampersand &, , <), the NSString variable that I use for sending the body of the email gets truncated at the special character. I'm not sure how to fix this (I tried using the method stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding…but this hasn't fixed the problems). Thoughts on what I'm doing wrong / how to fix it? • BULK INSERT with inconsitant number of columns

  I am trying to load a large amount data in SQL server from a flat file using BULK INSERT. However, my file has varying number of column, for instance the first row contains 14 and the second contains 4. That is OK, I just want to make a table with the max number of columns and load the file into it with nulls for the missing columns. I can play with it from that point. But it seems that SQL Server when reaching the end of the line and having more columns to fill for that same row in the destination table, just moves on to the next line and attempts to put the data on that line to the wrong column of the table. Is there a way to get the behavior that I am looking for? Is there a table hint that I can use the specify this? Has anyone run into this before? • Range partition skip check

  We have large amount of data partitioned on year value using range partition in oracle. We have used range partition but each partition contains data only for one year. When we write a query targeting a specific year, oracle fetches the information from that partition but still checks if the year is what we have specified. Since this year column is not part of the index it fetches the year from table and compares it. We have seen that any time the query goes to fetch table data it is getting too slow. Can we somehow avoid oracle comparing the year values since we for sure know that the partition contains information for only one year.

  I've checked out a branch of C# code from source control. It contains maybe 50 projects in various folders. There's no existing .sln file to be found. I intended to create a blank solution to add existing solutions. The UI only lets me do this one project at a time. Is there something I'm missing? I'd like to specify a list of *.csproj files and somehow come up with a .sln file that contains all the projects.

• In terminal, merging multiple folders into one.

  I have a backup directory created by WDBackup (western digital external HD backup util) that contains a directory for each day that it backed up and the incremental contents of just what was backed up. So the hierarchy looks like this: 20100101 My Documents Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My song.mp3 # modified 20100101 20100102 My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc My Music My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 ...etc... Only what has changed is backed up and the first backup that was ever made contains all the files selected for backup. What I'm trying to do now is incrementally copy, while keeping the folder structure, from oldest to newest, each of these dated folders into a 'merged' folder so that it overrides the older content and keeps the new stuff. As an example, if just using these two example folders, the final merged folder would look like this: Merged My Documents Important Docs Taxes.doc Letter1.doc My Music Best Songs Every First Songs.mp3 My Song.mp3 # modified 20100102 Hope that makes sense.   I’m getting an HttpRequestValidationexception with this error message: “A potentially dangerous Request.Form value was detected from the client”. But I have AllowHtml on the property that I’m getting the error. The problem is that later in my code I’m getting the following property to know in witch format I will show my view ControllerContext.HttpContext.Request.Params.AllKeys.Contains("format"). And on this “Param Getter” I’m getting the error.   I’m building a WPF application using MVVM pattern (both are new technologies for me). I use user controls for simple bits of reusable functionality that doesn’t contain business logic, and MVVM pattern to build application logic. Suppose a view contains my user control that fires events, and I want to add an event handler to that event. That event handler should be in the view model of the view, because it contains business logic. The question is – view and the view model are connected only by binding; how do I connect an event handler using binding? Is it even possible (I suspect not)? If not – how should I handle events from a control in the view model? Maybe I should use commands or INotifyPropertyChanged?

• Sandcastle setup - Navigation to webpage was canceled.

  I am try to use Sandcastle Help File Builder, but can't quite get it to work. Here is what I have done: 1) installed the program; works like normal 2) enabled xml in the project I want documentation for that gets generated in the /bin 3) created a new sandcastle help file project 4) added the C# project as (its a WCF service in case that matters) a documentation service 5) ran the "build" to generate the help file 6) went to "documentation"/"view help file"/"view help file" in the GUI 7) The file opens and contains the appopriate "folders", but every page says "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" I have seen the xml file in the /bin and it contains all of my /// comments, so why are they not showing up in the help file? Any ideas?

• I can't get mailto links to open the Mail app from Mobile Safari when using jQTouch. What could be w

  Hi all, I'm developing an iPhone web app using jQTouch, and it contains a simple mailto: link to a valid email address, which should launch the iPhone mail application when tapped—but it doesn't. If I visit a "normal" web page in Mobile Safari which contains the exact same link, and tap on it, I get the expected result: the mail app pops up with the correct email address in the To field. Here's the link HTML (with the address changed) just in case I'm going nuts and have made a stupid mistake, but it appears perfectly fine: <p><a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a></p> Has anyone come across this when using jQTouch? Or can anyone at least suggest a way that I can debug this? At the moment when I tap the non-working link it flashes red (the active link state) and absolutely nothing else happens.

  I'm trying to render data from an AJAX response as a bar chart with jqplot. To render this bar chart I use two variables: s1 which contains the numbers ex: s1 = [22,67,32,89] ticks which contains the name corresponding to a number inside s1 ex: ticks = ["Jack", "Mary", "Paul", "John"] So my AJAX returns two variables, data1 and data2.   I have a brand new Objective-C class called test. The test class has an instance variable called someValue, which contains an integer. I create 5 instances of the test class called aTest, bTest, cTest, dTest and eTest. The appropriate synthesize and property declarations for someValue are in place. Is there a clean way of returning the name of the class instance with the highest someValue value out of all the existing test class instances? The number of class instances may vary from the 5 in my example. Note I don't care what the value is, I just want to return the name of the class instance with the highest 'someValue' instance variable. I've tried a few NSMutable arrays however can only get the value not the name of the variable that contains it. Thanks in advance

• Div, Background Image, and Image Map

  On a web page I'm creating, I have a div with a background image. I overlay some text over the image that I'll be changing frequently, so that's why I'm using a background image and real text instead of an img tag that contains the text. The background image contains some click-able areas, so I need an image map. I think the best way to do this is to have another overlay div with a transparent image, and have an image map for the transparent image that corresponds to the background area click-able areas. Am I on the right track, or is there a better way?

• Replace a word in an XML file through StreamReader in XNA?

  Okay, so this is sort of a hack...but it may have to be. I'm writing an app in XNA, which from my research into this problem apparently doesn't support XML version 1.1. I'm reading in the contents of an ePub document, and one of the newer books contains its content directory as a version 1.1 XML document. This causes my program to crash. However, the structure is the same as the rest, the only thing that should be keeping it from working is the hard-coded "1.0" in the XmlDocument class. Is it possible that I could read in the file from the stream, see if it contains: <?xml version="1.1" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?> and simply replace it with "1.0"? Then I could pull it in as an XmlDocument. I'm not doing any writing to the file, or any complex structural reading, just looking for a few specific nodes, and pulling in the values, so I don't know what the ramifications of this would be.

  I have problem accessing Organization Service when I try to add it as a Service Reference in Visual Studio. However, I can Access the Service in browser. I have tried to add OrganizationData service and there is no issue with that. An Error occurred while attempting to find service at 'http://xxxxxxxx/xxxxx/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc'. • Recompilation problem with groovlets (Groovy)

  I'm new to Groovy, really like it, but found a compilation problem. I'm using Jetty as a webserver, which is serving .groovy files (groovlets) Consider two files: Test1.groovy which contains:    println new Test2().property Test2.groovy which contains:   public class Test2 {    String property = "print this"  } When calling /Test1.groovy in a browser it prints "print this". But when I change the property in something else, it still prints "print this", it won't recompile. The only thing I can do is restart jetty. Note that when all the code is in one file, recompilation does work. Is there a workaround for this..? Thanks, Bas.
