• Graphics Question: How do I restrict the mouse cursor to within a circle?

  I'm playing with XNA. When I click the left mouse button, I record the X,Y co-ordinates. Keeping the mouse button held down, moving the mouse draws a line from this origin to the current mouse position. I've offset this into the middle of the window. Now, what I'd like to do is restrict the mouse cursor to within a circle (with a radius of N, centred on the middle of the screen). Restricting the mouse to a rectangular region is easy enough (by adjusting the origin by the difference of the mouse position and the size of the region), but I haven't a clue on how to start doing it for a circular region. Can anyone explain how to do this? Any advice on where to start would be helpful.

• How to get a good current VMWare browser appliance?

  I'd like to have a small VMWare virtual machine that runs a copy of Firefox, with Flash enabled. (Or some equivalently-capable browser.) I tried doing some Google searching with no luck finding good keywords, and tried looking through VMWare's "marketplace" of VMs, but all I found were things from 2006 or so. Is there a reasonably easy way to get a current one? Ideally, I'd like to just download one somewhere, but in the alternative, a quick how-to guide would be useful. I know I could go through the whole process of getting a full-Linux-install VM and setting things up, but that seems like quite a lot of trouble and ends up with a pretty heavyweight solution to the problem, so I'm hoping there's a simpler way.

  I am trying to compile file-roller from git, but running autogen.sh gives me this error configure: error: Package requirements (gtk+-3.0 >= 2.91.1) were not met: No package 'gtk+-3.0' found Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix. Alternatively, you may set the environment variables GTK_CFLAGS and GTK_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details. I am running Ubuntu Maverick and don't wish to completely replace my current version of gtk, glib, etc. I have tried to compile GTK using the --prefix argument of autogen.sh, but this gives me a similar error about my version of glib. How can I successfully compile file-roller using these new libraries without borking my install?

  I have a pretty large collection of FLAC files created from my CD collection. I love the FLAC format and the sound quality that you can get from it. Lately, however, I've been trying to write a few tools to manipulate the files and I've been noticing what seems to be a stagnation of the community around the codec. Some of the links on the official FLAC page point to thing that are no longer relevant (7digital, for example, appears to no longer sell FLAC encoded songs). It's pretty hard to find hardware players that support FLAC any more (most noticeably it's not present on lower end players when it used to be, and playback is absent on Android). Programming language tools (Java and .NET libraries) are at best old, and at worst unfinished. What's the current state of FLAC development? Has it been replaced by another codec?

• Shrink system volume, create new partition, & enlarge current partitions w/o losing data?

  My machine has a 300 GB hard drive. I'm planning to reinstall Windows 7 on this machine soon. It has three partitions: a System partition, and two equal data partitions for particular types of data (music, photos, docs, etc). These data partitions are too small for the data they hold, and the system partition is large enough to be shrunk. I want to create four partitions in preparation for the fresh reinstall, a System partition, and three data partitions of varying sizes (40, 50, & 60 GB respectively). My question: Can I shrink the System volume, create another partition, and make the existing two data partitions bigger without losing any data that is currently on the hard drive? Or is it better to format the whole thing, and create partitions after (thus removing the current OS) with a partitioning tool booting from CD? Can I reformat and create partitions with the Windows 7 set up DVD?

• Is there an image viewer which *won't* show every file in the current folder?

  Looking for a Windows image viewer which can be started from the command line but which allows me to specify/restrict which files I want it to page through. As parameters. The good 'ol Windows Picture Viewer would be fine except that it'll show/cycle through all the pictures in the current folder. In my case I want to say something like: someimgvwr.exe "cat.jpg" "cow.jpg" "cub.jpg" so that only those three files will be displayed and not "pig.jpg" which might also happen to be there in the same folder. Actually, if it allowed something like this: someimgvwr.exe "c*.jpg" that would be even more perfect. Do any of the many image viewers that are out there allow such a thing?

• Can the Windows 8 Live SDK use another Microsoft Account other than the current user?

  Using the Windows 8 Live SDK you can have a user give you permission to their Microsoft Account. With this you can get their name and photo and more. But using the Live SDK appears to require the user of the app to use the same Microsoft Account as whoever is signed into the current session of Windows 8. In some scenarios, using a different account is very legitimate. I have simple sign-in working like a charm! This uses the same account. I can't find a way to do use another. Is it possible?

  I am setting up a Terminal Server 2008 which will be used by different client organisations, each with multiple individual user accounts. I would like each client organisation to have a drive mapped to \server\clients\ Their OU name is also their client name, so I would like to be able to find their current OU and then use it for the mapping command. The OUs are hierarchicals, so it is the bottom-most OU name I need. Example OU: Dedicated Clients\AjaxCorp Should get a drive mapped to \\server1\shares\AjaxCorp Any suggestions on how I can get the OU? I am sure it must be easy, I just haven't figured it out... I did find information about how to do this with VB script, but as it is a whole new environment I thought it would be nice to use PowerShell instead.

  I'm running a Small Business Server 2008 with Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0). I thought WSS was supposed to hide menu items for which the current logged in user don't have access? Apparently, all users can see all links, regardless of whether they have access. This applies to both links to newly created sub-sites as well as document libraries/lists. Is this expected behaviour, or is there a misconfiguration somewhere that causes the links to stay visible even for users without access? Thanks!

  In the ManageHook I can define what should happen to windows that have specific xprops etc. For example, I can call doShift or doFloat. How can I do the same to the currently focused window with a key binding? The section looks like this: `additionalKeys` ( [ -- Key bindings -- -- Minimize window ((myModMask .|. shiftMask, xK_m ), withFocused minimizeWindow) As you can see, I can call the minimizedWindow function (which takes a Window as parameter) on the current window when pressing a combination of keys, but doFloat etc. do not work like this.

• Ubuntu 14.04 stalling. Problem with LightDM. Plymouth (and logging out) switches over to a black screen w/ white cursor

  if its a duplicate, sorry. Couldn't find anything that fits my issue, much less that was on 14.04. I changed a few things recently. Switched to the Numix theme (from PPA), installed lm-sensors and psensor (ran all the I/O probes), Ubuntu Tweak, Pinta, and well, Team Fortress 2 on Steam. :P The system will get to the Plymouth 'ubuntu' screen, load load, all dots filled, switches over to LightDM, but wait! No LightDM. :I Just a blank screen with that white cursor. Can't switch out to tty1-6 - not sure if the Ctrl-Alt-F1 is disabled in 14.04 or if its literally just locked down. If I change any files, I have access to the filesystem from my Windows 8 partition. That's it. :/ I'm pretty familiar with Linux, especially Ubuntu, but I think I'm still at the point I know just enough to break things and not always how to fix 'em. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! UPDATE I was just able to get into my desktop briefly. I booted Ubuntu. When the black screen froze, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del. When it started switching off, I hit Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. It rebooted. I plugged the second monitor in I had been using before the issue ever came about. Plymouth displayed on both. LightDM came up, displayed on both (it used to show only the ubuntu logo on the unfocused monitor though). I logged in just fine. Even ran some pending software updates. I logged out of the desktop though, and LightDM refused to show again. xP

  I had 13.04, upgraded to 13.10, and did a fresh install of 13.10, no luck. Any ideas?   Hi, I'm trying to get authentication and authorisation working in an ASP .NET MVC2 site. I've read loads of tutorials and some books which explain how you can use attributes to require authorisation (and membership in a role) like this: [Authorize(Roles="Admin")] public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } I've made classes that implement IIdentity and IPrincipal, I create a userPrincipal object once the user has successfully logged in and I add it to a session variable. When the user goes to another page I want it to set the HttpContext.Current.User to the object that I stored in the session, something like this: if (Session["User"] != null) { HttpContext.Current.User = Session["User"] as MyUser; } My question is: Where abouts do I put the code directly above? I tried Application_AuthenticateRequest but it tells me Session state is not available in this context. Many thanks.

  I am trying to build a photo gallery with Django. It is set up by category. I have paginated the results of a category by n amount of images per page. I want to also use the paginator on the page that shows just the single image and have a prev/next button for the prev/next image in that category. My thought was to get the current index for the image itself and have that be the link to the /category/CUR_IMG_ID_PAGINATION_LIST/ as the result of paginating the entire set would yield the same index as the current image index in the paginated results. For instance if the image i want is image 45 out of 150 images total for a category, then when i paginate the 150 images the 45 will be the actual number of the page I want.   My C# project has repositories that are instantiated using dependency injection. One of the repository methods needs access to the NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration instance (to generate the database schema) that was returned when initializing NHibernate. I cannot pass the configuration to the repository however, because that would break the persistence ignorance principle -- I really don't want to expose any implementation details through the repository interface. So what I'm looking for is a way of getting hold of the current NHibernate.Cfg.Configuration instance from within my repository. I have no trouble getting hold of the current session, it's just the configuration that I cannot get hold of.

• How Do I get the current instance from an AppDomain?

  Hi, I use the default appdomain (AD) which I use to create new appdomains (AD1) when required for running plugins in isolation. When creating the new domain I also wire up the AppDomainUnload event to allow me to call clean up code etc. The issue I seem to have is: 1) Create AD1 from AD 2) Run code in AD1 3) Call AD.Unload(AD1) The code switches to AD1 and calls the unloading event passing in a reference to the current AppDomain (AD1). At this point I'd like to get a reference to the current instance running in AD1 to call a shutdown method however there is no GetInstance on the AppDomain class. Any ideas how I can go about getting it?
