• uniform generation of points on 3D box

  Hello: I would like to generate random points on a 3D box defined by its (minx, miny, minz) and (maxx, maxy, maxz) corners. I was thinking of generating a random point inside of the box and then somehow projecting it onto one of the box sides. However, I don't have explicit plane information for the box sides and this seems like it will not produce a uniform distribution of points since if some sides of the box are bigger than others, those sides should have more points generated on them. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

• Drupal 6 - Including a module form in a view

  I'm making use of the Favorites module, in order to allow my users to favorite nodes they like. Currently, I know that there is a block available for listing out the favorites, along with the 'Add to favorites' button at the top of this list. What I'd like to do is generate the form which includes the button, and include it within each node that I generate. I'd gotten it hacked up and quickly working by copying the generated form and placing it in my views-view--fields-.tpl.php template, however I believe that doing it this way goes against the thought behind Drupal, and probably introduces security issues with the form_id and form_token being hand-written. I've attempted to call the get_form function, and have passed it the form_id that I found in the generated form code, however I can't get Drupal to recognize it. From some Googling I've noticed that generating module forms programmatically may require a hook, but I haven't been able to find any good examples of this. What is the best way to go about creating this form?

• Python list comprehension to return edge values of a list

  If I have a list in python such as: stuff = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9] with length n (in this case 9) and I am interested in creating lists of length n/2 (in this case 4). I want all possible sets of n/2 values in the original list, for example: [1, 2, 3, 4], [2, 3, 4, 5], ..., [9, 1, 2, 3] is there some list comprehension code I could use to iterate through the list and retrieve all of those sublists? I don't care about the order of the values within the lists, I am just trying to find a clever method of generating the lists.

• Use same project to create multiple applications on same device

  I am deploying a reader application with it's document packaged in the asset folder. Any branding is done by dynamically generating xml and resources as appropriate. The application name itself is also generated. Since it is the tag's "package" property that needs to be unique, I nevertheless have a problem installing more than one instance of this app. I would like to dynamically edit the manifest package attribute's value to reflect the document and brand that I am building. But this causes build problems, specifically the location of R.java is no longer available to the component package under which the code resides. Originally, the component package is the same as the application manifest package. But precisely this manifest package name is the part that needs to be variable. How should I best proceed?

• Confused about Huffman Trees

  A quick tutorial on generating a huffman tree Confused about Huffman Trees. Near the end of that link above, it shows the tree with 2 elements left, and then the completed tree. I'm confused about the way that it is branched. Is there a specific way a huffman tree needs to be branched? For example, 57:* with its right child 35:* is branched off to the right. Could it have been 35 branched to the left with 22 branched to the right? Also, why wasn't 22:* paired up with 15:4 - it just paired with 20:5 to create a new tree. From initial obersvations it seems the tree does not need to be balanced or have any specific order other than that the frequencies of a leaf add up to the value of the parent node. Could two people creating a huffman tree with the same data end up with different encoding values?

• WinForms: How do I simulate button behavior on an image?

  I have an extension of the winforms TabControl, it's draws an X on each tab to allow the user to close the tab. How can I similate button look&feel on that image? It's not a button, it's not even an image control. It's just been drawn there. Is there a way to draw an inset border on MouseDown and Raised on MouseUp? Would I be better off generating another image, for the "inset" phase? anyone done this before? • How to show scrollbars in TScrollBox after it has been made visible again?

  Hi, I've ran into one small problem. I am dynamicaly generating some controls and place them on a TScrollbox component. But i noticed that if scrollbox is visible, user can clearly see each of the controls being created and placed. So it looksl ike lots of work is being done and it is slow. I hid the scrollbox and generated all the controls on it, which took much less time and no flickering and alike. But here's the problem. When i unhide the scrollbox, its' scrollbar doesn't appear untill i actually resize the form. (The alignment of scrollbox is alClient) Any ideas on how to fix this? Tried repainting, but it didn't work. Refresh didn't work either. Thank you

• gdata youtube api 302 'The document has moved'

  I'm trying to get YouTube feeds with the python gdata library. Authentication features work ok, yt_service.ProgrammaticLogin() works, generating subauth token works, etc., but when I try to get some feeds (GetMostRecentVideoFeed, GetYouTubeVideoEntry, even GetFeed, and any other) I get: RequestError: {'status': 302, 'body': '<HTML><HEAD><meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">\n<TITLE>302 Moved</TITLE></HEAD><BODY>\n<H1>302 Moved</H1>\nThe document has moved\n<A HREF="http://www.google.com">here</A>.\r\n</BODY></HTML>\r\n', 'reason': 'Redirect received, but redirects_remaining <= 0'} 302 to 'google.com'??? I've even tried to do something from the google online tutorials and I get the same error. What's going on?

  Hi, My code is ion cocos2D. I have written code for generating the bullets from the enemy gun for every 0.3seconds. The enemySprite is in right side of the screen in (land scape mode) at winSize.height/2. the bullet starts from the same point and reach the player's end. I used rand() to generate y-coordinate for the bullet to hit on player side. Now, if the bullet bounded rectangle meets the player bounded rectangle the enemy won. If it misses enemy shoots again after 0.3 seconds. Every thing is fine up to here for me. But I have 10 enemies and each have accuracy of hitting player of probabilities ranging from 0.80 to 1.0. First enemy probability is .80 and 10 enemy's is 1.0. How can I adjust the probability for enemy such that it runs according to its probability. Player also hits the enemy.

  Hello everybody I am in a crucial project and I am trying to speed up the development phase by using codesmith for generating the business class DAL and info class for the tables of my project. There are about 50 tables with relationships parent child many to many and for retrieving data I have to code several inner joins in stored procedures. I have to combine fields from many tables and this makes working with the info class difficult. Is there anyway to generate info class from stored procedures or to be more exact is there a way to parse the result set of the stored procedure and to generate the info class with properties for every column in that result set. • Java Swing: how to add an image to a JPanel ?

  I have a JPanel to which I'd like to add JPEG and PNG images that I generate on the fly. All the examples I've seen so far in the Swing Tutorials, specially in the Swing examples use ImageIcons. I'm generating these images as byte arrays, and they are usually larger than the common icon they use in the examples, at 640x480. Is there any (performance or other) problem in using the ImageIcon class to display an image that size in a JPanel ? What's the usual way of doing it ? How to add an image to a JPanel without using the ImageIcon class ? Edit: A more careful examination of the tutorials and the API shows that you cannot add an ImageIcon directly to a JPanel. Instead, they achieve the same effect by setting the image as an icon of a JLabel. This just doesn't fill right...

  Install Shield Premier 2009: Basic MSI Project I have a dll that is supposed to be removed during uninstall. But this dll is being used by explorer.exe, it is used for generating windows explorer context menus with their icons(same as the menu items, icons we see when we right click on any file/folder and see the WinRAR items, icons). Manually, I have to unregister the dll and close explorer.exe from task manager and again run explorer.exe. Then I can delete the dll. So from Install Shield how to delete this dll without any problem(as we see while uninstalling WinRAR or other software there is no problem no message boxes shown and the related context menu icons also removed).

• Programming user interface advice?

  Hi, In my project I going to generate a user interface through programming. Scalability of this UI is very important requirement. So far I am using two dimensional graphics for generating the UI. I think there may be different solutions but for the moment I know only two. First one is supplying X,Y coordinates of each two dimensional graphic on my UI.(I do not prefer this solution because I do not want to calculate X,Y coordinates of each graphic. For the moment I don't have a logic for doing this easily) Second one(which is currently I am using now) is using layouts which organizes its contents according to size of item. In this solution I don't have to calculate X,Y coordinates of each item.(Layout is doing this for me) But this approach may have its own pitfalls. I am very new to user interface programming. Can you give me advice about this issue?

  I have eventually managed to fiddle HyperJAXB so that when XSD has complexType A and this has an IDREF to complexType B, then HyperJAXB will generate @OneToOne JPA annotations between the the two generated entities. However now I'm facing another problem: the XSD has complex type X that can IDREF to either complex type Y or complex type Z. In the end, I need instance of complex type X contain reference to either instance of class Y or class Z. Do you have any wild ideas how can this be done without manual alterations to the generated classes? And at the same time to make sure these entities are marshalled to a correct XML? How about using the JAXB plugin that allows generating classes so that they implement a particular interface? Could that lead anywhere?

• Statistics: combinations in Python

  I need to compute combinatorials (nCr) in Python but cannot find the function to do that in 'math', 'numyp' or 'stat' libraries. Something like a function of the type: comb = calculate_combinations(n, r) I need the number of possible combinations, not the actual combinations, so itertools.combinations does not interest me. Finally, I want to avoid using factorials, as the numbers I'll be calculating the combinations for can get to big and the factorials are going to be monstruous. This seems like a REALLY easy to answer question, however I am being drowned in questions about generating all the actual combinations, which is not what I want. :) Many thanks

• Creating a MSI patch (.msp) by hand?

  Our team has recently been considering pushing out a minor registry fix to users to modify one particular problematic key. Pretty straightforward stuff, just needed to update 1 key/value inside the registry. So at the moment, we are using Wix to build .msi installers for the product. While looking into Wix's support for generating .msp patch files, it seems that the only way to create an .msp is a somewhat overcomplicated multi-step process to: Get a copy of the original MSI, and compile a new copy of the fixed MSI Write a new Wix file that points to both installers Compile the Wix file into a .wixobj with Candle to a .psp Run Torch/Pyro over before/after snapshots of the original installers and the .psp, or alternatively using MsiMsp.exe Now my question is, can't I simply describe the registry change into a Wix file and directly compile it into the .msp, without step 1 and 4 - which is a huge amount of effort for just a simple change?

But if I use code like loadedType = typeBuilder.CreateType(); myDelegate = (MyDelegate)Delegate.CreateDelegate( typeof(MyDelegate), methodBuilder); Reusing the methodBuilder as a methodInfo, I get the exception "MethodInfo must be a RuntimeMethodInfo". Now normally I can re-acquire the MethodInfo with MethodInfo mi = loadedType.GetMethod(methodBuilder.Name); myDelegate = (MyDelegate)Delegate.CreateDelegate(typeof(MyDelegate), mi); But my class may contain several overloaded methods with the same name. How do I make sure I get the right one? Do methods have some persistent identifier I could look up in loadedType?

• Edit Distance in Python

  I'm programming a spellcheck program in Python. I have a list of valid words (the dictionary) and I need to output a list of words from this dictionary that have an edit distance of 2 from a given invalid word. I know I need to start by generating a list with an edit distance of one from the invalid word(and then run that again on all the generated words). I have three methods, inserts(...), deletions(...) and changes(...) that should output a list of words with an edit distance of 1, where inserts outputs all valid words with one more letter than the given word, deletions outputs all valid words with one less letter, and changes outputs all valid words with one different letter. I've checked a bunch of places but I can't seem to find an algorithm that describes this process. All the ideas I've come up with involve looping through the dictionary list multiple times, which would be extremely time consuming. If anyone could offer some insight, I'd be extremely grateful. Surprisingly, I find that the most challenging task is to keep my website up & running. My site is being hacked again and again no matter what I do - I blocked the FTP connections, changed the Joomla (CMS) database table names, installed all latest patches and what not. The web site supports the product (over 1800 users now...) by generating licenses, support forums, documentation, galleries etc. The product which is a winforms application cannot be marketed without this web site.   Hi all, to export some data i want to be able to generate an html output. I have some constant content to output, like html headers and footers. My question is how to deal with that ? Do I have to embed some template (in a ressource file) and parse it to make it dynamic ? Do I store my static content in some constant (is there a 255 char limit?) and append them while generating the dynamic content ? Do you have some hints, useful links, or best practices to share? I want to develop an authentication scheme which is based on biometrics, Every human being have a unique key-hold time,digraph time error rate. Key-Hold Time : Time difference between pressing and releasing a key . Digraph Time : Time difference between releasing one and pressing next one. Error Rate : No of times backspace is pressed. I got these metrics from a paper "Keystroke-based User Identification on Smart Phones" by Saira Zahid1, Muhammad Shahzad1, Syed Ali Khayam1,2, Muddassar Farooq1. I was planning to get the datasets to test my algorithm from openmoko phone, but the phone is mis-behaving and I am finding trouble in generating these time data-sets. • uniform generation of 3D points on cylinder/cone

  Hello: I wish to randomly and uniformly generate points on a cylinder and a cone (separately). The cylinder is defined by its center, its radius and height. Same specifications for the cone. I am able to get the bounding box for each shape so I was thinking of generating points within the bounding box. However, I'm not sure how to project them onto the cylinder/cone or if this is the best idea. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  I have an class defining an immutable value type that I now need to serialize. The immutability comes from the final fields which are set in the constructor. I've tried serializing, and it works (surprisingly?) - but I've no idea how. Here's an example of the class public class MyValueType implements Serializable { private final int value; private transient int derivedValue; public MyValueType(int value) { this.value = value; this.derivedValue = derivedValue(value); } // getters etc... } Given that the class doesn't have a no arg constructor, how can it be instantiated and the final field set? (An aside - I noticed this class particularly because IDEA wasn't generating a "no serialVersionUID" inspection warning for this class, yet successfully generated warnings for other classes that I've just made serializable.)

• How can I allow users to switch data sources for an SSRS report?

  I have two SQL Server databases with identical schemas, but different data. I also have SSRS generating reports, in native mode, for one of the databases. All reports the same shared data source. I would like to allow users to get reports for the other database. I created a second shared data source for the second database. Modifying the reports to use this second data source results in reports as expected. Because the RDLs are the same, except for the data source, and because I don't want to maintain what are basically duplicate reports, I'm looking for a way to dynamically switch data sources, depending on user input. Is there an easy means of accomplishing this? An existing solution would be best. Barring that, can the RDL's data source be parametrized? Or, can the RDS's connection string be parametrized?

• XSLT: Is there a way to "inherit" canned functionality?

  i am once again having to cobble together a bit of XSLT into order to turn generated XML into (rather than simply generating HTML). i'm having huge deja-vu this time again. i'm once again having to solve again basic problems, e.g.: how to convert characters into valid html entity references how to preserve whitespace/carriage returns when converting to html how to convert to HTML as opposed to xhtml how to convert dates from xml format into presentable format how to tear apart strings with substring This is all stuff that i've solved many times before. But every time i come back to XSLT i have to start from scratch, re-inventing the wheel every time. If it were a programming language i would have a library of canned functions and procedures i can call. i would have subroutines to perform the commonly repeated tasks. i would inherit from a base class that already implements the ugly boilerplate stuff. Is there any way in XSLT to grow, expand and improve the ecosystem with canned code?
