I know that creating isa hierachies using derive requires namespace qualified keywords. Are there any other cases where there is a clear need for keywords to be in a namespace?

  • How to properly downcast in C# with a SWIG generated interface?

    I've got a very large and mature C++ code base that I'm trying to use SWIG on to generate a C# interface for. I cannot change the actual C++ code itself but we can use whatever SWIG offers in the way of extending/updating it. I'm facing an issue where a function C++ is written as such: A* SomeClass::next(A*) The caller might do something like: A* acurr = 0; while( (acurr = sc->next(acurr)) != 0 ){ if( acurr isoftype B ){ B* b = (B*)a; ...do some stuff with b.. } elseif( acurr isoftype C ) ... } Essentially, iterating through a container elements that depending on their true type, do something different. The SWIG generated C# layer for the "next" function unfortunately does the following: return new A(); So the calling code in C# land cannot determine if the returned object is actually a derived class or not, it actually appears to always be the base class (which does make sense). I've come across several solutions: Use the %extend SWIG keyword to add a method on an object and ultimately call dynamic_cast. The downside to this approach, as I see it, is that this requires you to know the inheritance hierarchy. In my case it is rather huge and I see this is as a maintenance issue. Use the %factory keyword to supply the method and the derived types and have SWIG automatically generate the dynamic_cast code. This appears to be a better solution that the first, however upon a deeper look it still requires you to hunt down all the methods and all the possible derived types it could return. Again, a huge maintenance issue. I wish I had a doc link for this but I can't find one. I found out about this functionality by looking through the example code that comes with SWIG. Create a C# method to create an instance of the derived object and transfer the cPtr to the new instance. While I consider this clumsy, it does work. See an example below. public static object castTo(object fromObj, Type toType) { object retval = null; BaseClass fromObj2 = fromObj as BaseClass; HandleRef hr = BaseClass.getCPtr(fromObj2); IntPtr cPtr = hr.Handle; object toObj = Activator.CreateInstance(toType, cPtr, false); // make sure it actually is what we think it is if (fromObj.GetType().IsInstanceOfType(toObj)) { return toObj; } return retval; } Are these really the options? And if I'm not willing to dig through all the existing functions and class derivations, then I'm left with #3? Any help would be appreciated.

  • rewritten mysql query returning unexpected results, trying to figure out why

    I created a messy query in a hurry a while ago to get a list of product codes. I am now trying to clean up my tables and my code. I recently tried to rewrite the query in order for it to be easier to use and understand. The original query works great, but it requires multiple search strings in order to do one search because it uses UNIONS, and it has a few other issues. My newly modified query is easier to understand, and only requires one search string, but is returning different results. Basically the new query is leaving records out, and I would like to understand why, and how to fix it.     I have downloaded both samples for the Facebook Developer Kit from Codeplex and Facebook.NET followed both tutorials down to the word - But as soon as I browse to me app on Facebook I am getting the following error for BOTH versions? API Error Code: 100 API Error Description: Invalid parameter Error Message: Requires valid next URL. Anyone else had this problem? I'm struggling to find an answer to what the error actually means? Especially as the starts kits are supposed to work out the box?

I have the code written in matlab which uses the conv2 function ... is there a library for C# / .NET that does good high-speed matrix manipulations?   • Is it possible to run locally JRuby on Google App Engine without restarting server on every change?

    Unfortunately, GAE requires restart of the server on each code change. Is it possible to prevent it and have immediate feedback after code save? Or, can I import Google App Engine's API into my ruby code and run it on Sinatra server? Tried this but it fails on "import com.google.appengine.api" (it doesn't know what 'com' is). For Sinatra, I use "Rerun" ( http://github.com/alexch/rerun ) which restarts server immediately after a change with minimum wait. Thanks.

However this requires knowing the symbol "SDL_Init" exists. Is it possibly to query a library for all its symbols? Eg, in this case it would return SDL_Init, the function pointer, and any other symbols exported by libSDL.so.

I have an object that is in the main AppDomain and it is creating another AppDomain and it requires the calling class to be serializable and is creating an instance of the calling class in the new sub AppDomain. I'm wondering if that is how it is, or if there is a way that I can create the sub appDomain but still hold on to the original instantiation of the calling object in the main appDomain

  • Running shell scripts with sudo through my web app

I've written a bash script and am able to run it from within my app. However, some functionality of the script requires superuser privileges. What is the most sane way to run this script securely? It is being passed arguments from a web form, but should only be able to be called by authenticated users that I trust not to haxxor it.
