Memory efficient import many data files into panda DataFrame in Python

I import into a panda DataFrame a directory of |-delimited.dat files. The following code works, but I eventually run out of RAM with a MemoryError:. import pandas as pd import glob temp = [] dataDir = 'C:/users/richard/research/data/edgar/masterfiles' for dataFile in glob.glob(dataDir + '/master_*.dat'): print dataFile temp.append(pd.read_table(dataFile, delimiter='|', header=0)) masterAll = pd.concat(temp) Is there a more memory efficient approach? .Net reflection to get developers comments about class / property etc?

Hi, I know its unlikely but I was wondering if there is any way to get the comments (i.e. the bits after the ''') of a class or property..? I have managed to get a list of properties of a class using the PropertyInfo class but I cant find a way to get the comments / description.. I need it for a guide I am writing for the administrators of my site - it would be great if it could automatically update if new properties are added, so there is no need to worry about updating it in the future too much. What would be the west way to open a window.showModalDialog on linkbutton when updating a form? I have a linkbutton on form that allows me to update the data, I want to be able to check if the data updatedin this case , parameter status of client is active I want to be able to open a window to fill some more information. Fortran recursion segmentation faults

Hey all - I have to design and implement a Fortran routine to determine the size of clusters on a square lattice, and it seemed extremely convenient to code the subroutine recursively. However, whenever my lattice size grows beyond a certain value (around 200/side), the subroutine consistently segfaults. Displaying local images in the web browser control

Hi, I am writing a Windows Forms application and am creating a report for users to view in the webBrowser control. The problem is that it does not seem to display an image which is situated on my local hard drive, it just display the "broken image" red cross symbol. The path of the image is correct and when I view the source code of the generated html in either Firefox or Chrome it works but not in Internet Explorer (which I presume it what is used for this webBrowser control). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Richard.

Regex Pattern for ignoring a custom escape character

I am trying to find a suitable regex for matching pair of custom characters in an input string. These custom characters are replaced by their corresponding html tags. For e.g. The input string can have underscores in pairs to indicate words in bold. Hence, _Name_ outputs as <b>Name</b> However if there is a genuine underscore in the string, it cannot be replaced by "bold" tags and has to be ignored. The genuine underscore has to be preceded by / (I couldn't find a better character, it could be one more underscore or hyphen or whatever). Any single or paired occurrance of this genuine underscore has to be ignored by regex. Hello, I have the following Groovy+SwingBuilder code. In one panel I generate checkboxes and in another panel I want to access the values of the checkboxes. Lexical and dynamic scoping in Mathematica: Local variables with Module, With, and Block

The following code returns 14 as you'd expect: Block[{expr}, expr = 2 z; f[z_] = expr; f[7]] But if you change that Block to a Module then it returns 2*z. It seems to not matter what other variables besides expr you localize. I thought I understood Module, Block, and With in Mathematica but I can't explain the difference in behavior between Module and Block in this example. linq to sql datacontext for a web application

Hello, I'm trying to use linq to sql for my project (very short deadline), and I'm kind of in a bind. I don't know the best way to have a data context handy per request thread. I want something like a singleton class from which all my repository classes can access the current data context. However, singleton class is static and is not thread-safe and therefore not suitable for web apps. I want something that would create a data context at the beginning of the request and dispose of it along with the request. Can anyone please share their solution to this problem? I've been searching for a solution and I've found a good post from Rick Strahl : http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/246222.aspx but I don't completely understand his thread-safe or business object approach. If somebody has a simplified version of his thread-safe approach, i'd love to take a look.

Visual C# 2010 express... displaying console output??

Hi, I am currently creating a customer application for a local company. I have a datagridview linked to the customers table, and I am trying to link it up so that updates, inserts and deletions are handled correctly. I am very new to c# so I am starting with the basics (like about 2 days ago I knew nothing - I know vb.net, Java and several other languages though..). Anywho from what I understand anything output through Debug.WriteLine should only appear when in debug mode (common sense really) but anything output through Concole.WriteLine should appear whether or not in debug mode. However I have checked the immediate and output windows and nothing is being output when in normal mode. Does anyone have any idea why this is?? Thanks in advance, Richard

Basic doubt about sensor usage

Suppose I have a cellphone with accelerometer and magnetometer, and want to determine its absolute (wrt North/East/South/West) 3d position. Imagine the phone is laid vertically, with the screen facing me, the "up" vector pointing to the ceil. Whenever I tilt, the accelerometer allows me to get the "up" vector info change. The problem is that if I tilt the device and put it horizontally (screen now facing ceil, and "up" vector pointing to the opposite of where I am), then the up vector doesn't get updated any more if I rotate the phone horizontally on the table. This is something that clearly is detected by the magnetometer now. So, the question is, when to know where to use acc or mag for each case? Is there a generic way to achieve this?

Very simple, terse and easy GUI programming “frameworks”

How to calculate dawn / dusk times

Hi, I'm currently using this code to calculate the sunrise / sunset times. (To be more precise, I'm looking for civil dawn / civil dusk times which are defined as the time when the sun is between 0° and -6° altitude). As a next step, I'd like to compute the dawn beginning and dusk ending times. I believe the calculations must be very similar. My idea is that if I want to calculate the dawn beginning (dusk ending) time for a place I just calculate the sunrise (sunset) times for a place 6° farther east (west). Can somebody confirm this assumption, or am I thinking wrong? Thanks for answers! -- Ry

c# resize window over display resolution

I am total newbie in .Net programming so be patient, please ;-). I have problem with resizing window. I want to resize from my app other app's window and take screenshot of it. I do resizing based on this example: http://blogs.geekdojo.net/richard/archive/2003/09/24/181.aspx. But I have a problem. I work on a laptop with 1024x640 pixels screen resolution but I want to resize my window to 1200x1600 px. I can't do that couse display limitations. Is there any tricky solution to resize window for this resolution and take a screenshot of whole window? I've alos tried Sdesk program witch is suggested here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/445893/create-window-larger-than-desktop-display-resolution. Any help?

How do you diagnose a 500 error on Heroku when there is no error message in the logs?

I have a Rails app on Heroku that is serving 500 errors at random intervals. Web pages will display "Internal server error" in plain text, instead of the usual "We're sorry. Something went wrong." page. When I refresh the page, it works fine. How to order a TimeZone list in .NET?

I have an ASP.NET web application that requires users to select their appropriate time zone so that it can correctly show local times for events. In creating a simple approach for selecting the time zone, I started by just using the values from TimeZoneInfo.GetSystemTimeZones(), and showing that list. The only problem with this is that since our application is primarily targeted at the United States, I'd like to show those entries first, basically starting with Eastern Time and working backwards (West) until I reach Atlantic time. What's a good approach to do this in code?

transform longitude latitude into meters

I need a function that maps gps positions to x/y values like this: getXYpos(GeoPoint relativeNullPoint, GeoPoint p){ deltaLatitude=p.latitude-relativeNullPoint.latitude; deltaLongitude=p.longitude-relativeNullPoint.longitude; ... resultX=latitude (or west to east) distance in meters from p to relativeNullPoint resultY=longitude (or south to north) distance in meters from p to relativeNullPoint } i have seen some implementations of "distance of two geoPoints" but they all just calculate the air-line distance. i think the deltaLongitude can be transformed into meters directly but the deltaLatitude depends in the Longitude. does anyone know how this problem can be solved?

Dynamics CRM 2013 rich text editor

I am using Dynamics CRM 2013. How does one apply the rich text editor styling seen on the description field on the email form to other multiple line text fields? Viewing the source code it is obvious that the system is treating the rich text field very differently from the normal multiple line text fields in that instead of rendering a textarea it is rendering a table with an embedded iframe. In CRM 2011, I have used extensions that wrap up the TinyMCE editor but they were never very effective. It seems odd that I can't just check a box to do this to any text field in the settings when the behaviour is obviously built in. Thanks in advance. Richard.

I read the transcript of a speech by Richard Hamming included as a part of this SO question and the speech had a quote that got me thinking about when someone should move into development. When your vision of what you want to do is what you can do single-handedly, then you should pursue it. The day your vision, what you think needs to be done, is bigger than what you can do single-handedly, then you have to move toward management. And the bigger the vision is, the farther in management you have to go. Any other suggestions as to how you can decide if you want to move away from the coal face and into management?
