• Does it make sense to use a NSFetchedResultsController without an UITableViewController? How are the

  I mean... could I also just create a plain old UIViewController and then set up a UITableView myself, plus an NSFetchedResultsController? How much do UITableViewController and NSFetchedResultsController interact with eachother? As far as I see it, UITableViewController is NOT by default already adopting the NSFetchedResultsControllerDelegate protocol. It almost looks like if UITableViewController has been developed without knowing about NSFetchedResultsController. Probably they even did that before developing FRC. Anyways, just a raw guess because the UITableViewController lacks of mentioning FRC at all. So the only thing I see in UITableViewController is that it is already the delegate for a UITableView by adopting the protocol, and it sets up the UITableView instance for me and assigns it internally to it's tableView property. Is that the whole magic of UITableViewController? (note: the nsfetchedresultscontrolle tag is not a typo. SO has a limit for the num of chars...too bad for that missing r, that's why I avoided this tag in my other buch of questions like the plague)

• known memory leaks in 3ds max?

  I've set up a script in 3ds max to render a bunch of animations into frames. To do this, I open up a file with all of the materials, load an animation (as a bip) onto the figure, then render. We were seeing a problem where eventually the script would fail because it was unable to open the next file-- max had consumed all of the system memory. Closing max, of course, freed the memory, and we were able to continue with the script. I checked out the heapfree variable, hoping to see a memory leak within my script, hoping to see a memory leak within my own (maxscript) code-- but the amount of free space was the same after every animation. Then, it must be 3ds max which is consuming all of that memory. Nothing in max need be saved from animation to animation-- is there some way to get max to free that memory? (I've tried resetMaxFile() and manually deleting all of the objects in the scene). Is there any known sets of operations that cause max to grow out of control?

• PDO::fetchAll vs. PDO::fetch in a loop

  Just a quick question. Is there any performance difference between using PDO::fetchAll() and PDO::fetch() in a loop (for large result sets)? I'm fetching into objects of a user-defined class, if that makes any difference. My initial uneducated assumption was that fetchAll might be faster because PDO can perform multiple operations in one statement while mysql_query can only execute one. However I have little knowledge of PDO's inner workings and the documentation doesn't say anything about this, and whether or not fetchAll() is simply a PHP-side loop dumped into an array. Any help?

  I'm using the will_paginate gem for my Rails project and it's working beautifully. Unfortunately, on paginated result sets with a larger number of pages, the link section is too wide. Instead of: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 … 18 19 Next » I would like to show: « Previous 1 2 … 5 6 7 8 9 … 18 19 Next » How can I reduce the number of page links being rendered? • Multi page forms on ASP.NET MVC

  Hi, I have decided to use ASP.NET MVC to develop multi page (registration) forms in asp.net. There will be two buttons on each page that allows the user to navigate to the previous and next page. When the user navigates back to a page they recently filled out, the data should be displayed to them. I understand ASP.NET MVC should remain stateless but how should I maintain page information when the user navigates back and forth. Should I? Save the information to a database and retrieve information for each page change? save information to the session? Load all the fields and display only whats's needed with javascript? This registration form is going to be used in multiple sites but with different sets of questions (Some may be the same). IF performance is a main concern, should I avoid generating these forms dynamically? Jay

I want to export the secret key of one party using the public key of the second party, and then import that secret key as the second party's secret key (this sets up a shared secret key for communication). • WebDAV auto-versioning in Git or Hg or any modern VCS

  I just recently learned of SVN's auto-versioning feature for WebDAV. Although I understand this is not replacement for proper versioning, with messages documenting change sets, it strikes me as a solid and safe replacement to Dropbox (minus nice GUIs and web pages). However, since commits in auto-versioning are frequent, I'd imagine that Git or Hg would be better suited for this, just because of their more compact databases (although I wonder if the distributed nature of things could make the automation ugly for resolving conflicts). Is this a feature that has been implemented using Git or Hg, as far as anyone knows?

• Report group headings not repeating on every page.

  I have an RDLC report with three tables and associated data sets. In my second table, I cannot get the two 'header' rows to repeat on each printed page. When viewed interactively, each table is on its own page and this isn't a problem. When I switch to print layout, e.g. my second table now spans two pages, and the second page gets no header rows. Am I missing a setting or something? ADDED: I do have the 'Repeat Header columns on each page' checked.

  I am building a secure app for our exec's... here is my setup. It's a somewhat Macgyver approach, but bear with me :) There are only 10 users, I have a record of each uniqueIdentifier on my backend in a database table. (This is internal only for our users, so I don't believe I am breaking the public user registration rule mentioned in the API docs) Through adhoc distribution I install my app on all 10 devices My app is simply composed of a UIWebView. When the app starts it does a POST to our https site sending the uniqueIdentifier. (Thanks to this answer) The server page that recieves the POST, checks the uniqueIdentifier and if found sets a session cookie that automatically logs them into the site. This way the user doesn't have to enter in their credentials every time. So what do you think, is there a security hole with this? Thanks

• How can I tell if a user came to a page via a Google Adwords PPC campaign?

  I have a form with a hidden "Came from Adwords" field that will be marked true (via javascript) if the user came from a PPC campaign and will stay false if not. That way, when the user submits the form, we will have each submission stored with info about whether that submission came from adwords or not, all without the user knowing. How can I fetch this info? I know that Google sets a cookie called Conversion whenever you click a PPC link to a page, but the cookie's content is just random alphanumeric characters. Is there something in the Analytics/Adwords API that will let me test for this? Do I have to resort to adding ?ref=adwords or something onto the PPC URLs so that I can test that way?

The problem is that the error message it displays when a user enters an invalid postcode is this: 'POSTCODE' does not match against pattern '/^[a-z]{1,3}[0-9]{1,3} ?[0-9]{1,3}[a-z]{1,3}$/i' (where input was POSTCODE) How can I change this message to be a little more friendly?

  In many places in my code, I do things like: file1.php: <?php include('../file2.php'); file2.php: <?php include('anotherdirectory/file3.php'); Depending on the server or settings I try this on, it either sets the relative paths from the "includer" or from the "includee". This is really confusing. So file1 might try to include "../anotherdirectory/file3.php" or it might try "anotherdirectory/file3.php". What settings dictate this behavior? I want to have control over this...

  Hi, I have a php login which sets 2 cookies once some one login. the problem is that if you login from : http://www.mydomain.com and you go to http://mydomain.com you will find your self not logged in, I think that's because the browser only send the cookies to the first syntax. It's only one domain, the difference is the www. before the domain name, so how to set cookies to the whole domain whatever there is www. or not ? <?php setcookie('username',$username,time()+3600); ?> Thanks

  I've noticed a discrepancy in the way that python parameters are called. In every other language I've dealt with, you either have foo() meaning either no parameters, or as many parameters as you like, or foo(arg1, arg2,...,argn) where you pass in the same number of parameters to define the function and call it. In python however, I've noticed that the function definitions, and when the function is called, can have two different parameters sets, this usually consists of: class foo(object): def bar(self, arg1, arg2): pass However, when I want to call the function, all I have to do is: zoo = foo() zoo.bar(arg1, arg2) Where did the self parameter go?   I have a combobox implementation as follows - Based on user input (min 2 chars) in the editable combobox, the data provider is refreshed and drop-down opened, showing different data sets as user input varies. Problem is that after drop-down opens, the cursor moves back to the beginning. So for instance, the user types in "ab", and wants to type in "c" to form the search string "abc". Due to the cursor re-setting its position to 0, the search string instead ends up as "cab". Here's what I tried already (doesn't work) : textInput.mx_internal::getTextField().setSelection(index, index); where index = length of user input. This selects text from index to index (which effectively un-selects text) and is supposed to place the cursor at the end. Any thoughts?

  I am using jQuery to make an AJAX call to a ruby method in my controller. The javascript looks something like this: var latLongJSON = { "address": [ {"lat" : 50, "long" : 50} ] }; var returnedAddresses; $.ajax({ type: "GET", data: latLongJSON, url: "map/getaddresses", success: function(data) { returnedAddresses = JSON.parse(data); } }); Then in my 'getaddresses' method, my parameter coming through looks like: Parameters: {"address"=>"[object Object]"} I'm not sure what to do with this. I'm fairly new to Ruby, and I'm not sure if I need to convert this to something else, or what. Ideally I want to be able to pass in multiple sets of lat/long in the 'address' array, then be able to iterate over those in my Ruby code.

  My program sets "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" value "Hidden". Hovewer I'm not able to refresh the explorer to take into account this change. So what should I do? If I refresh Explorer myself with F5, then it works. Hovewer I would like some elegant solution, so it would refresh the display everywhere, even in OpenFile/SaveFile dialogs, which are currently open. I'm using C# .NET, Win7.

• Scintilla custom syntax highlighting not working

  I have a Scintilla control that I create in C#, and the syntax highlighting doesn't work. • Problem using Hibernate-Search

  Hi, I am using hibernate search for my application. It is well configured and running perfectly till some time back, when it stopped working suddenly. The reason according to me being the number of my model (bean) classes. I have some 90 classes, which I add to my configuration, while building my Hibernate Configuration. When, I disable hibernate search (remove the search annotations and use Configuration instead of AnnotationsConfiguration), I try to start my application, it Works fine. But,the same app when I enable search, it just hangs up. I tried debugging and found the exact place where it hangs. After adding all the class to my AnnotationsConfiguration object, when I say cfg.buildSessionfactory(), It never comes out of that statement. (I have waited for hours!!!) Also when I decrease the number of my model classes (like say to half i.e. 50) it comes out of that statement and the application works fine.. Can Someone tell why is this happening?? My versions of hibernate are: hibernate-core-3.3.1.GA.jar hibernate-annotations-3.4.0.GA.jar hibernate-commons-annotations-3.1.0.GA.jar hibernate-search-3.1.0.GA.jar Also if need to avoid using AnnotationsConfiguration, I read that I need to configure the search event listeners explicitly.. can anyone list all the neccessary listeners and their respective classes?   I have set up the user defaults to record a integer for a UISlider, the problem is that, if the user has only just installed the app then the integer is zero or NULL. • Error connecting to online fossil repository after changing password.

  I set up a fossil repository on a shared hosting account I have. I created a perl script fossil.pl that points to a cloned repository that I put up on the webspace. I set all the correct permissions (755). When I go to fossil.pl I get the web ui. Everythings cool. However I'm having a problem with pushes and hoping someone could point me to a solution. When I clone a repository it sets a new password for me (Toby) in the new cloned repository. If I push to this repository online without changing the password it works fine, I can push up changes from my local machine to the online repository. However once I change the password for Toby (to something more easily remembered by me) I get the following error. Bytes Cards Artifacts Deltas Send: 1810 9 0 2 1Server Error: not authorized to write fossil: server says: not authorized to write Anyone know why this is happening? Anyone know how to fix it?
